After I bought my subaru I brought it in to have some of the bushings replaced and on the final test drive Ed was able to diagnose that my engine had spun a bearing and had rod knock (due to the previous owners failure to change the oil at a proper schedule, had I taken it to Ed to have it looked at before hand he would have heard it as I arrived at the shop). I had EQ do the work and I am nothing but completed satisfied with the work he did inside of the budget that I had. Since then I continue to take my car back there for everything from mystery noises to blown radiators because I know I can trust EQ's work, ethic, and top notch customer service. I have an '06 Ford Mustang and I brought it in after making an appointment, and doing some research about my cars symptoms (completely shut off while I was driving on the freeway..twice). I asked them to check the fuel pump first and they did! The diagnostic was super quick, they drove over 45 miles to retrieve my new pump from a Ford dealership and replaced it all in the same day AND without charging me for anything other than the part, tax, a tiny bit for diagnostic, and a very reasonable price for labor. Ed is super nice, very professional and really knows his stuff. I had a crap tune from GST Motorsports that only was pushing 290 whp on e85 running really rich. IDC's were 105%. Ed was able to make 340 whp with the IDC's at 90%. He even eliminated the stumble and cold starts I was experiencing. Customer service is top notch. I took my 2006 STi to EQ Tuning for the 30k checkup, leakdown & compression test, and a downpipe swap. I was thoroughly impressed. EQ Tuning's facilities are pristine. We discovered that my resonator had a hole in it and my exhaust gaskets were also bad after years of use, and all were replaced the same day at a very reasonable price. In fact, all of EQ's services were fairly priced - I called up lots of local Suby shops and tuners and EQ's was even better than the average. At the same time, there was no sacrifice in quality at all. I wasn't even going to get an oil change because I had recently gotten one from my local Subaru dealership using OEM synthetic oil, but I went ahead with the oil change at EQ anyway and they showed me the oil that was in my car - it looked terrible, so in retrospect I am extremely glad I went ahead with the oil change. When swapping my downpipe, it turns out I needed a custom tune because my Cold Air Intake won't pass smog (the APS 70mm). Ed tuned my car, no questions asked, and didn't charge me for it - he didn't even mention it. Things like this are what wins trust and loyalty - I'm going to tune my car with E85, and I can get it tuned locally (a 20 minute drive or less) or I can drive an hour and a half to Fairfield and have Ed do it. You better believe I'm going to be driving up to EQ Tuning. read more

I have been a customer of Ed's for about 5 years now. Ed tuned my Subaru's Stage 2 motor; his tune was smooth, powerful, with great drivability and surpassed all my expectations. I happily ran that tune for years. In the recent past I had a major issue with my motor. While I was under power the timing belt let go, and well bad things happened inside the motor and it was pretty much toast. I decided that I was not ready to give up on my Subie and wanted to keep it for the long haul. I decided to have an EQ Tuning install one of their Stage 1 Motor in the car; Ed sat down with me and we went over just about everything that was going to happen during the build. This is the first time I had ever done anything remotely like this, that is when I realized the magnitude the project. Since I have picked the car it has been solid, no issues at all. Ed and EQ Tunings attention to detail is second to none. During the build, I found it a perfect time to replace some key parts, VF52, Group N Motor Mounts, clutch kit, fuel pump. (With more goodies to come at a later date)EQ Tuning was more than happy to accommodate any "modifications" that I wanted to make to the car and with the motor out it is a perfect time to make some changes. Now that the major break in period is complete it was time to have Ed tune my new motor. It responds just as they promised, smooth and strong. ED is the man. Hands down one of the best tuners around. He takes the time and patience to really tune a car to your taste or specifications. Many tuners can tune a car for just power, but ED goes the extra step and really meticulously examine your fuel map for maximum efficiency, drivability with performance. I had several tunes from other tuners on my 2007 Subaru Sti, but none of them ran like ED tunes. The power band was smooth with no drop offs or dead spots and the way the motor responds in stop and go traffic is like a Lexus. His shop is a little pricey, but they do go the extra mile with in great detail with the tune. Installation of parts and engine builds are top rate. For the Subaru community, he is one of the best. I took my 2014 Scion FR-S to Neal a few months ago. He did a header install and cat back install for me. It would've been a quick in and out install, but I ended up talking cars with Neal and Brandon for about an hour. EQ Tuning is simply unbeatable for their services. I first came to EQ after having my heavily modified subaru tuned by a top shop in less than 30 minutes, and the results sucked. Drove up from Fremont just to get my ladies STI tuned. Worth the drive and every dollar. The difference between OTS map and eds tune is night and day. Pulls harder and drives way smoother. Customer service was great. ED is very knowledgeable about these vehicles. He goes very in depth with what you want to get out of the tune, and answers any questions you may have. About two weeks after the tune the check engine light turned on for a wastegate duty cycle code. I contacted ED and very shortly after he sent me another map where he modified the duty cycle to see if it would help. No problems since then. read more

This shop is the best. Seriously. All of their mechanics are extremely skilled and friendly. They work quickly and are highly focused. One of them spent three hours hand wrapping my new turbo headers. (only charged a flat install fee). This is an update to my tune with Ed on my 2015 STi. I was his first 2015. Did Stage, 1, then Stage 2 shortly after. He has been very helpful in answering all my questions, related to tuning. Ed has really taken the time to dial in the specific throttle settings I am after. I am very picky when it comes to drivability, and his tunes are easy to drive, unlike some tuners who only tune for peak numbers. Go get tuned by Ed. You wont' regret it. sorry for the 4 year delay on this review... I had my 2012 Subaru STI Hatchback Pro-tuned by Ed back in 2013. I drove 1 1/2 hours to meet up with EQ Tuning and had them install some parts and protuned. At the time, Ed answered all my questions and gave me several options for the type of parts and tune i wanted. In the end, the car ran like a dream. he even took the time to answer a few followup datalogs through email. Since then, i've put over 75K miles on it, and not had a problem since then. Fast forward 4 years later, i had some parts in my car removed that needed a new updated map. Came to EQ already knowing that Ed and his crew do amazing work. I was a little skeptical about taking a Evo X since the place was crawling with nothing but STI's. Talked to Ed for a bit, his confidence and experience definitely assured me that I came to the right place. He installed my catted downpipe in one hour and then tuned the car. We are now proud owners of a 295whp and 317 ft-lbs of torque Evo X!!!! Everything with the tune went well. The car feels so smooth and we are getting better gas mileage. (when we don't get on it) EQ definitely exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Customer service was the best! Everyone we talked to made us feel more than welcomed. Shop was super clean and had good reading material. My experience with EQ makes me want to buy a Subaru just to work with them again.
