I'll say it, I'm not a beer person but I love going to breweries with friends and seeing all they have to offer! My friends wanted to check out the new Equilibrium brewery and it's a beautiful venue. It's open and airy. The architecture is pretty and I love the art work in the building but also on the cans. They have cocktails too! Don't worry I didn't suffer! They also have a nice selection of food. My friends enjoyed the beers. Definitely a spot to check out!
I thought that I had reviewed EQ a few years back when I went so this will be an average score of both visits. First visit was a 4 and this was a more like a 2. Anyone that remembers the old brewery with the chairs and the line shares can see how far these guys have come. Still churning out some delicious and unique brews but now in a beautifully designed space. The setup is typical of the modern brewery where you order everything from the bar, including food. It wasn't always easy figuring out where to stand and order but it seems like the back corner where the staff enter and exit is the proper spot. You also bus your own table like you would at a cafeteria or fast casual spot. Unfortunately, my most recent visit really left something to be desired in terms of the food. The pretzel bite appetizer was decent and the ipa mustard had a nice zip to it but the beer cheese was lackluster at best. The wings and brisket felt like they were smoked 3 days prior and then reheated prior to serving. The meats were desiccated and lost some of their smoke but the sauces were thankfully flavorful. I didn't find the food quite as underwhelming last time I visited despite having the same items, so perhaps it was just an off day. The beer, as expected, was solid throughout a range of styles. Started off with some sours, then some DIPAs and finally some porters. $7 for 4oz pours of sours and $7 for 8oz pours of DIPAs/porters so they are on the higher end of modern beer pricing; up there with trillium and other high rent spots and pricier than Hudson valley brewing on the other side of the river. Equilibrium is definitely a fine choice if you find yourself thirsty cruising down 84 or in the Middletown area. It seems like it might be prudent to go on a weekend when the smoker is actively running.
When I knew I was coming to this area for a trip this was one of my top spots I wanted to go check out! I am a beer person and love trying out new breweries!. This space is very interesting and not like your usual brewery. It has an interesting circular shale to it. There are plenty of seating options inside and out. To enjoy your brews. There are also a few tvs here too. I was excited to try their beers. The staff was nice enough to give me a sample of two beers I could not choose which one I wanted. This brewery has a cute little merch shop as well. I love the logo of this place and the cans are intriguing too. This is a must try place if you are in the area and enjoy great beers!
A quiet and rainy afternoon, we stopped by as we were out and about in Middletown. In the area and there's a local brewery... It's my duty to stop by and sample. We were hungry as well. Got a table, and went up to the bar to order drinks and lunch. The wait staff was nice and placed our orders. There was a wide selection of beers to try. I ordered temporal loops and then string theory pink guava/strawberry. Both were light and refreshing. I didn't think I'd enjoy a tangy sour beer, but they both went well with the chicken sandwich. My sister got the Fractal Strata. Stole a sip, and it's also nice. My son gobbled up his bbq pouitne fries and Boylan ginger ale. The place is clean, and they have outdoor yard games as well. Alot of outdoor seating as well. I'd come back with the hubby for some grub and beers.
Now this is a unique space! There is a circle bar in the center with some indoor seating on the outer edges and outside seating outside of that. There is a lot of glass widows that allow all the natural lighting to come in. If you look up, you can see a lot of bottles and cans of other breweries. It was cool to see what I recognized. Service was quick. The bartenders came around often to see if you liked the beer or needed food. My favorite of the day was the farmhouse ale Austin Plum. The IPAs were okay. I love that they had food on site, and BBQ at that! I ordered a brisket sandwich that came with rosemary fries. What a great pairing. It was satisfying and fulfilling. Overall, I would go back.
Ordered I have a pound of brisket. It came out cut with a fork. The brussels sprouts were also amazing that we had to order a second serving to feed the rest of my party
Genuinely love it here. Fantastic beers always and the food is top notch. Got pulled pork quesadillas, simply phenomenal
I had written a review of equilibrium brewery in the past and it was in high praise. It has been some time since I've been back. Today we attempted to return and boy has a lot changed in a short time. Walking in it wasn't anymore busy customer wise than it was any other time I've been there. But the staff seemed to have other priorities than customer service. The blonde bartender apologies for not knowing her name was outside taking pictures in the snow while there were 40 customers inside. The male bartender behind the bar whispered to another staff member "who's cleaning those tables, I'm not". We simply asked if someone was going to clear the empty tables of garbage so we could snag a table. We waited about 15 minutes and the bartender just simply stared at us and tended to like two customers while the dining area had each table covered in garbage. By the end of the waiting the female bartender must've finished with her photo op and came back in (wasn't much help) so as we stood there waiting for someone to clean off the 6-7 tables covered in food and garbage. No one came so we left. That's pretty horrible for customer service considering the place is pretty much self service you get up and get your own drinks and food. U literally just need someone to serve the drink cook the food and clean. The food used to be very good but since it's been some time and the fact that the service changed so drastically I question if the food is still good. Really hope this place hasn't changed and it was just one bad experience with the staff that was present today.
Decided to try a new spot and found this place. Upon arriving, they do have a parking lot which is a plus. Once we entered, we were told we could have a seat at the tables, but we had to order at the bar. (It was a Wednesday early afternoon). We ordered with the bartender, and she brought our food to the table when it was ready. We ordered the Mac and cheese and the crispy chicken sandwich. The Mac and cheese was very good, it seemed to have a layer of breadcrumb on top which made it very crunchy. It was also cooked nicely. The only thing that was missing is that it could have had a bit more cheese. The crispy chicken sandwich was delicious. It came with chipotle aioli, but there was definitely not enough chipotle aioli, so we did have to ask for more, which the bartender had no issue getting for us. The fries were delicious! They had really good seasoning. For drinks we got the Hudson North peach cider which was delicious, and the String Theory Pomegranate & Plum beer, which was also very tasty. We were also able to purchase a 4 pack of the string theory beer, and you get a 10% discount when you show your dine-in receipt! There is indoor/outdoor seating. This place definitely looks like it gets packed on the weekends because it seems to have a really nice atmosphere. I would definitely return and recommend this place!
Visited this brewery for the first time this week and was absolutely blown away! The atmosphere is casual but nice enough for a date night or special occasion. The food was the showstopper here - the barbecue is unbelievable. You must try the Macaroni and cheese and the Brussels sprouts as well. I'm not a beer drinker but my husband loved the beer and I enjoyed a cocktail. I think we found our new go-to!
I came on a weekday around lunch time. The tap list will not disappoint. There are a lot of options with handy descriptions and a great variety of styles. It was one of the most sophisticated tap lists I've seen. You can use an app to order, which was nice but at times felt a little impersonal. Nonetheless, our waiter got us beer and food very quickly after submitting through the app. I thought the brisket and chicken salad were a little drier than I was hoping, but the french fries were really delicious. Get the beer cheese (though it comes with a ton more fries!). There's a pretty seamless way to get your cans to go. Snap a pic of the menu so you can ponder. Glad I could make it to this important and renowned brewery!
I really enjoyed their beer and my friend enjoyed a mixed drink. The pretzel appetizer was good and came with a ton of pretzels, cheese, and mustard. We also tried the cornbread, which is recommended. The art around this place is awesome, it kind of has a Pink Floyd vibe mixed with Einstein. The staff was friendly and the food came out in a reasonable timeframe. There was a dj playing songs as well.

Equilibrium Brewery is a craft brewery that opened in Middletown, New York in December 2016. It was founded by friends and MIT engineers Ricardo Petronis and Peter Oates. Oates used to make several trips up to Vermont to visit that state's many fantastic craft breweries. Petronis later suggested to him that if he made his own beer then he could avoid long road trips. The pair started homebrewing and soon decided to open their own brewery. The name "Equilibrium" was chosen as a nod to their scientific backgrounds. They opened up shop at a dilapidated meat packing plant at 22 Henry Street. The popularity of Equilibrium's beer grew at an alarming rate with the brewery regularly welcoming lines of up to 300 people during their Saturday morning can releases. Once they outgrew their space, they acquired an old TD bank location a couple of blocks away on South Street which opened to the public in December 2019. The Henry Street location closed to the public but is still used as a production facility. Equilibrium's new taproom is also home to the Bonfire Restaurant with a menu focused on traditional Barbecue cuisine. I made my first visit to Equilibrium Brewery last week. They brew a variety of styles but they are most well-known for their super juicy, hoppy and hazy IPAs. I had never tried their beer before (as it is not available in my home state of Connecticut) but I had heard that they were ranked as one of the Top 5 Regional Breweries in the United States along with breweries like Tree House, Trillium and Other Half. That fact alone motivated me to make the 2 hour drive out to Middletown. I arrived when they opened at noon and I was so impressed with their beautiful facility. For food, I decided to order the Burger of the Week: the "Brunch Burger" (Cheese, Bacon, Frizzled Onions, Fried Egg, Möbius BBQ Sauce). It was one of the juiciest, tastiest burgers I ever ate and the fries were so crispy. To drink, I ordered short pours of "Swans & Dragons" (Fruited Saison), "Display of Clarity" (West Coast Double IPA), "MC²" (Double IPA), "HDHC Dreamwave Fluctuation" (Double IPA), "Fluctuation" (Double IPA), and "Mosaic Function" (Triple IPA). Every single beer I sampled was fantastic! Before leaving, I purchased some Hazy IPAs and Imperial Stouts to bring home. Beautiful brewery, friendly and knowledgeable staff, delicious food and outstanding beer! I will definitely be back! read more
Amazing new spot glad they finally got a place. The old location will be used for production and this will be the tasting room and dining area. Easily the best IPAs I've had, citrusy, well balanced and simply delicious. They've a decent menu for the food as well. Plenty of BBQ options and also vegetarian selection as well. We tried number of items(Check out the pics). Beautiful interior with full glass windows all around, nice bar area and separate store to buy cans! Not to mention they have an outdoor as well should be good times for some warm weather. There is nothing comparable to their beer selection anywhere nearby. There is a reason people drive hours just to grab some of their regular selection and limited selection beers. Not a better brewer in the game, every beer is unique and the quality is high. Over all, Great beers and nice environment. Friendly staff! read more

5 stars all around for this place. My daughter and I are up from PA for Legoland. I'm a big pub food fan so I love to find breweries or pubs to try when I'm out of town. I tried the This is Your Brain on Science and she had a good old Boylan Cane Cola which can in the bottle with a glass of ice, which was a good touch because she loved pouring the soda into the glass like she was the bartender. To eat she got the grilled cheese and fries, I got the brisket with a side of Mac & cheese and an order of the Korean BBQ wings. All the food was amazing, even had to get another side of Mac & cheese because my daughter stole most of mine it was that good. From the store I got a pint glass for the collection at home and we each got a T-shirt, they even had a kids shirt which she was extremely happy about. The outside is beautiful and the window wall to see where the make the beer is a great touch. Definitely recommend this place! read more

Great vibes!! We visited on a Saturday afternoon on a rainy, cold day, and it was poppin! They have a very efficient ordering system. You sit wherever you want, scan a QR code, and it generates a tab for your table! Anyone who scans that same QR code can add orders, and it keeps track of everything that you've ordered during your visit. You can easily see the menu of beers, ciders, wine, non-alcoholic drinks on your phone, re-order the items you liked. You can even order food from their kitchen! And the orders come out super quickly, straight to your table. They've really got it streamlined - I'm not surprised at how popular they are! I got their citrus ginger cider, and I enjoyed it! didn't finish the full 12 oz they gave me, but it was good. I'm not a fan of beer, but I tried some of my friend's. We also got the pork nachos, which were fantastic. Fries were good too. We ordered ribs as well, but I was too full by then. We checked out the retail store too - they've got some cool gear! We got some shirts, tank top, and sweatshirt. Yay equilibrium! read more
This is such a fantastic brewery! My wife and I were lucky to visit here twice this summer and both times were great. The taproom has plenty of seating both inside and outside and they have a great selection of beer. The taplist was mostly IPAs, but there were a few barrel-aged stouts too that were fantastic. The brews here are so so good and they're 100% worth the trip if you're from out of town. The food here is also delicious and the brisket, sausage, mac and cheese, and wings were all super tasty and go so well with the beer. Equilibrium is a great brewery and one that we'll visit every time we're in the Middletown area. Don't miss it! read more

This was my first visit to the brewery and I definitely see myself returning. We sat inside because it was drizzling, but their patio looks great for nice weather days. The brewery itself is very open and has windows with great light on all sides. Similar to many other businesses in a COVID world, Equilibrium uses QR codes, but they were even more innovative. When you scanned, it recognized if another member at your table was using the same QR code and allowed you to start a tab together or separate. It also prompts you to add credit card so you could close out on your own. Very efficient, but the servers could be a bit more hospitable and check in/engage some about the beer or food options. It seems like the engagement from staff seems to happen at the bar only. Overall great experience. We had the Thai chilli wings with fries. After seeing the poutine fries come out, wished we would have tried those instead of regular fries. read more

Our favorite spot in the area! Gave it 4 stars because they've changed the ordering a few times & now you order everything at the bar but there isn't really any system to it so it takes a bit. Loved the QR codes they used to have but guessing they wanted to cut back on food/drink runners. Still great food & a large variety of beer and cocktails! Lots of tables outside too and we love the game wall :) read more

Oh me oh my Oh me oh my The brisket sandwich was trash Taste like a big brown eye! Foodie friends this one is a real disappointment. Such a disconnect between the beer and the food. As foodies we all know that the food served should complement the beer. Well that's not the case at all with this establishment. Ordered a brisket sandwich Got a bottle of barbecue sauce On a dry bun. My suggestion order a beer Forget the food Your done ! Reviewed by Foodie N Friends read more

I live in Jersey so anytime we make it out to Equilibrium, it's such a treat! It's one of my favorite breweries, we also bring our pups when we can. I love the outdoor seating and the inside is such a vibe as well! The beer is absolutely delicious. Never disappoints! Can't forget to mention that the brisket is a must! read more
Nationally known brewery that pumps out some serious heat in the barbecue department. Fairly large list of beers on tap with all different styles and one of the, coolest ordering systems for outdoor tables I've seen. Highly recommend attending one of their tap takeover events, they have breweries from all over the nation that they collaborate with and make some pretty wild food and beer combinations. read more

This place is incredible. I mean I'm sure it is. We're living in weird times right now so I haven't actually been inside, but their beer and food are definitely incredible. They have a nice and easy system for picking stuff up too. I can't wait to actually get to hang out here. I'd highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich. I made a video about my wonderful experience with them. It's on Instagram. Just search my name if you're interested. read more

WOAH! I was so impressed with how beautiful The brewery was. I honestly feel so fortunate to live right down the street from this spot. Beer: They have many EQ beers on tap to choose from. They also had 1 from Hudson Valley Brewery which is a nice treat. I ordered the EQ shared space boysenberry 8oz draft at $9. Food: SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM. I had the brisket and bbq chicken wings. Both were delicious.....I just wish the brisket was hotter...since it is coming from the smoker.... Service: very attentive and friendly staff. Atmosphere: so beautiful, very spacious, lots of seating- both inside and outside. There's even a spot to play darts and outlets to come with your laptop and do some work!!! I honestly can't wait for my future visits, especially in warmer weather. Way to go Middletown!!!!!! read more
Time for an update! EQ now has opened in their new location, and this includes an amazing new tap room, PLUS the addition of "Bonfire", a live-fire grill with slow-cooked BBQ! I was lucky enough to sample some (OK, too much - I couldn't stop myself when ordering) of the menu, and it is otherworldly good! I don't consider myself a BBQ pro, despite having tried it around the world, but I'd have to say it is the best I have had. The sentiment was the same with all the others I spoke with, and many had higher bars to set than even I (some had been smoking meats with their father and grandfather since they were old enough to stand), and it exceeded even their expectations. It was better that War Pigs in CPH! I tried the roast turkey, which was moist and wonderfully seasoned, the pulled pork which was just as great and went with both (Texas style and Carolina style) sauces perfectly, and the star of the show - the brisket... oh my god. I'm drooling while typing, no joke haha. I didn't get to try the beef ribs, but I saw them and.... well let's just say I'm ordering that next time! Everything pairs so well with the beers, and the prices are super reasonable for the quantity. Go with your friends and load up a big tray to share! read more
Long overdue!! One of my favorite craft breweries in the area. They are mostly known for there IPAs which are so incredibly tasty and juicy. Even the double and triple IPAs are so smooth and not too heavy. They make some awesome sours too but I wish they did them more often. There and back again is my favorite sour they have and they've done a few different fruited variations of this in bottles which are all excellent. Coming for a can release usually isn't too bad depending on the release. They typically hold them on Saturdays and you go and get your ticket early beforehand and the canning starts 1130. I try to get there around ten to get my ticket and I usually don't have any issues waiting long. The taproom is on the small side but there's a few tables and chairs to sit. They just have a decent amount of cans and bottles to go which is always great. If your a craft beer enthusiast definitely check this place out! read more

If you want a place with great beer and amazing bbq then this is the place to go! They have cute outdoor seating and a spacious inside seating area. You seat yourself and use the QR code to order through your phone. The bbq food is so delicious. The chicken was good, the fries and Mac and cheese was out of this world but the best thing I would say were the ribs and poutine. The beer was outstanding and the s'mores stout was a delicious way to end dinner. The staff was very nice and friendly. I only thing I could say is that due to not having a waiter come to the table, makes it a little annoying when you need something like napkins or water. We had to get up a few times to ask for small stuff but other than that this is a solid place to go to. I definitely recommend coming here! read more

Visited Equilibrium while staying in Sparrow Bush for a birthday weekend and was mostly looking forward to eating the food as it looked delicious based on the pictures in the reviews. I can't speak to the IPA's as I'm not a huge beer drinker but they did have a LOT of options. I was a bit disappointed that there weren't more options for other alcoholic drinks (i.e wine) but I was very happy with the red wine option that they did have and that I ended up ordering. As for food, my husband and I ordered the brisket, turkey, medium Buffalo wings and Brussel sprouts. The turkey was juicy and cooked very well. The Buffalo wings and Brussels were just okay. The sprouts tasted as if they were out all day and just reheated just before it got to our table, so not the freshest. Although I ordered the medium Buffalo wings, I didn't taste any spice at all-- so more on the milder side I would say. Oh! And we were able to try their poutine fries on the house because of an order error and those were good! Very sweet of them to let us keep the poutine. Other than that, the restaurant was very busy and a fun environment to be in. Seating is first come first serve, so you need to keep an eye out for when people are leaving to grab a table. Service was friendly. Very easy to place your order and pay the tab through their app. read more
