The bread they use is top notch as well as what ever they're putting in it. The avocado toast is one of the best I've ever had.. None of these items will be found on the on line menu, so the first time I visited I didn't realize all of the other offerings were available, including hot waffles. It sucked because the place is so busy that I wasn't able to look around and I just grabbed a few items from the case. The coffee is good, but the latte's are milky and expensive. I was able to get a decent taste only by ordering an extra shot. To get a latte you will experience a 20 to 30 minute wait, typically. A latte at a major airport Starbucks with a line a lot longer than this will only be 10 minutes. Why the disparity? I only return because of the breakfast sandwich, the wait for a latte is really unacceptable. I did mention expensive lattes, way more than the norm, but everything here is pricey. I don't really get what all the hype is about with this coffee shop. We stopped here on a Sunday morning after attending a wedding in the area the night before. We placed our order online and drove over to pick it up. They were slammed so obviously our order was not ready when they said it would be. For the prices, the quality of the coffee drinks and the portions are disappointing. I ordered an ice latte that was extremely watered down and bland. My husband felt the same about his beverage. Wanting a little bite to eat, he decided on a breakfast sandwich and I decided to try one of their infamous waffles. Again, for the prices and the portions, these were very average breakfast items. I guess with not a ton of competition around, this place can really rake in the business but do yourself a favor and go get some better coffee somewhere else. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Equator Coffee for over a decade. I still remember when they first opened at Proof Lab and how excited we were to drive over for a cup. Every new location has felt like a win for the community--until recently. The experience has been completely ruined by the prioritization of online orders. Now, I'm often left waiting 15-20 minutes or more for a coffee, even when the shop is practically empty, because the baristas are bogged down with a flood of mobile orders. It's baffling that in-store customers are pushed aside, despite being right there in person. I shared my concerns with the staff, only to be brushed off, which made it feel even more frustrating. It's clear there's a solution that hasn't been considered: why not have a walk-up window dedicated to online orders with a person specifically managing that? Instead, everyone--whether they ordered online or are waiting at the counter--is lumped into the same queue, which makes no sense. This system has completely destroyed the experience. What used to be a vibrant, welcoming spot now feels disconnected. I truly hope they reconsider how they handle this, because Equator has always been a place I've loved, and it's sad to see it lose the atmosphere that made it special. read more

A few years back, spurred perhaps out of a fear that it would hurt Emporio Rulli's business (it didn't) and part by the crankiness of being about 7 months pregnant, I wrote a lukewarm review of Equator in Larkspur. And now, I seem to be on a mission to try every location or means of buying Equator products. Aesthetically, this location has all the European mountain town charm of downtown Mill Valley. I particularly love the convenience of being able to order and pickup without going inside, because my kids are too young to be vaccinated (I'm being over-cautious) and I bring my dog everywhere (she's spoiled). I order on the app when I parked my car at Depot Plaza and by the time we make it across to Equator, it's there at the pickup bar outside. And if I didn't spoil my dog so much, it would actually be one of the safest places to bring my children indoors because even post-June 15 and pre-new-Marin mask recommendation, Equator has continued to requires masks indoors, and this location is basically open air, with two walls basically completely open. I may have once felt ambivalent about Equator's hot chocolate (again, because I was unfairly comparing it to Emporio Rulli's thick doge hot chocolate), but as a parent ordering hot chocolate for kids, I love the "less sweet" option and how it tastes rich and natural and not like cocoa puffs milk doused with tablespoons of sugar. And, of course, I can never be ambivalent about the coffee. read more

I came here twice this past weekend while staying with a friend in the area and she raved about how good it was so we of course made it stop the first morning. As a disclaimer I am a reformed coffee addict who hasn't had coffee in months so I went with an iced matcha latte and a blueberry doughnut. First of all, the doughnut was $5. Living in Los Angeles I'm rarely have sticker shock, but $5 so an unremarkable pastry is a little ridiculous. It tasted fine but no better than Sidecar, Randys, etc. In any case, I was most excited for the matcha latter however, that turned out to be a bust. It just ended up tasting like milk with the slightest hint of matcha. The coloring was practically white so that should have tipped me off. Being on a tight timeline I sucked it up and went on with my day. The next day after a full day and night of SF sightseeing I threw my no coffee streak out the window and tried an ice coffee with oat milk. All three of my friends said their coffees were amazing the day before so I figure can't go wrong with that. It was fine, a step up from Starbucks (not saying much I know) and didn't have the burnt coffee taste, but it also wasn't particularly strong in general. Long ago, The Depot was the center of downtown Mill Valley, but its been since overshadowed by Equator Coffee, with its smooth expresso pulls and dreamy matcha. A local women owned business, Equator (this location in the center of town or the Proof Lab location off Tam Junction) is definitely THE place to get coffee for aficionados in the area. Locals know their beans and brew have had the seal of approval from Chef Thomas Keller of French Laundry fame, and that's no small accomplishment. (You can even order the "French Laundry" blend, no joke.) . Love everything about this place except the seating. With their limited seating, mostly tall tables, along the wall or outside, one might argue that Equator is not encouraging their customers to sit and stay awhile. It is hard to find a seat most days and the seats are often uncomfortable, making this a harder place to meet up with friends, though locals do it anyway. Beside accolades, the expresso here is delicious, and that's the real reason for the crowds. read more

I heard of Equator Coffee, but until now I only tried it from restaurants which serve it, rather than their store. I decided to get one of their seasonal drinks: a wildflower orange oat latte. I am no stranger to oat lattes, but wildflower orange is new to me. I'm really glad i got it. It wasn't too sweet and i can taste the flavors. Oat milk, a touch of wildflower honey, and orange. It is citrus-splashed creamy goodness in a cup! I also got their breakfast frittata. It was a surprise to me that they still served it in the afternoon. Despite it being a little on the physically hard side, it was a really nice handcrafted sandwich. Sure, I am a little partial to frittatas, but their spicy mayo added a kick to this sandwich. My friends and I stopped by here after a lady (had seen them wearing their DSLRs around their neck) stopped us to suggest we come here for coffee. We walked down the block with her to Equator as she told us of great photogenic places. I'm originally from Orlando so I was here visiting a friend. Based off of first impressions this place is trendy and homey. It fits the area we were in. I ordered a Vanilla Latte and so did my friend. The barista unfortunately forgot to put syrup in my drink so I had to steal my friend's to take pictures of the branch drawn in her foam. The drink was very delicious, not too sweet. I managed to drink it quickly without realizing how much I liked it. Other than that, I know where to go for coffee when I'm out and about. read more

We'll, its been 5 yrs since I reviewed Equator Mill Valley. It's changed. By necessity. Equator worked hard to protect its workers, very hard, very admirably. Equator is always on its toes in many ways, probably too many for me to really describe. The non-coffee beverages are really good, and it hires a lot of people to keep the place in order. One thing that I cannot say I like is the new project into the re-usable container space, i.e., "USEFULL". At first blush, it seems like a good idea, keeping in mind the sanitary requirements have become more strict since the days of having your own dedicated coffee mug or beer glass hanging up on the wall waiting for you in decades past at coffee shops or beer places. When asked about the offering, the barista told me the reusable cup must be returned in two days. When I looked up the website via the QR code at Equator, there may/may not be late or use fees, but it is explained if one goes to the USEFULL site and reads through it all. In my opinion, totally not worth it and wish there was some non-profiteering alternative which clearly had conservation of resources solely in mind. Nonetheless, I really appreciate how Equator has rolled with the pandemic punches and constantly tweaks itself for the better. read more
