We hired Epoch construction to build our dental office. We had an old building and Epoch was hired to completely demolish and rebuild a brand new free standing building. We met with TC ******* ( Epoch's rep in Austin) in mid 2019 and he seemed like a nice and trustworthy individual at first. He had all the right answers and we felt good about their company. We had met with two other contractors as well. Although Epoch's price was actually the highest, but we chose them based on how they presented themselves. Soon after our project was started we noticed how disorganized they really were. They also changed our project manager three times in the middle of the project. After months of delay they finally finished half of the building, but after the first rain our office was flooded. Water was pouring in from everywhere. It was coming in from the brand new roof they put in and also coming in from the bottom of the walls where the walls and the foundation meet. There were big trash cans through out the office collecting rain. There was standing water on the floor. We were in a state of shock and could not believe this was happening. To cut the long story short our office was flooded six times from December of 2020 till April of 2021. Epoch kept sending their subs to patch work the brand new roof and walls they had built, but every time they failed to address the problem. To make the matter worse the owner of Epoch construction, David *********, would argue with us that the flooding was not their fault!!!! We brought in several independent inspectors, roofers, and general contractors to evaluate Epoch's work and they all could not believe what they were witnessing. After thorough investigation they discovered Epoch had made many critical structural mistakes, which needed to be corrected immediately. We communicated all of these findings and discoveries with David ********* (the owner) and TC ******* (their Austin rep) just to be faced with their rage and anger. We hired a seasoned inspector ourselves to help Epoch remedy these problems. Instead of listening and considering the experts solutions, David and TC carried themselves in a very unprofessional way and insulted him. After witnessing Epoch's repeated failed patch work we lost confidence in their abilities and knowledge. We were informed by independent inspectors and other contractors that Epoch clearly lacks some basic construction knowledge and we should not let them continue with our project. We communicated this with Epoch. In return Epoch filed a lawsuit against us!!!!! We hired another contractor to address all the problems Epoch created and finish the building. Below is the latest discoveries the inspectors, the new general contractor, and the structural engineers have made: -) the roof was not built to code -) the walls were not water sealed. In certain areas there is gap between the walls and the foundation, which water can easily come inside the building -) the sidewalk slope towards the building ( the water flows towards the building) -) There has been mold growing through out the office. -) The building is not positioned correctly on the foundation and is about a foot off -) The wall of the mechanical room is over our neighbor's property and needs to be torn down and rebuild -) There are issues with the electrical -) Part of the foundation may need to be taken out and redone -) The awnings need to be redone( not structurally sound) -) The molded sheetrock through out the office needs to be redone Epoch has been paid for everything they have built. They have actually collected more. We have just discovered they have not paid many of the subs and owe them the total amount of $148,839. We constantly receive phone calls and letters from the subs demanding to be paid. We explain to them we have already paid Epoch, but some of those Subs have decided to put a lien on our building. Epoch has also put a lien on our building and this has caused our bank not to release anymore of our loan. So as of right now we have a half built building that is terribly defective and needs to be repaired, the bank will no longer pay a penny towards this project. We have to find a new way to finance the project, which Epoch's lien makes it nearly impossible. We hired Epoch constructions out of Houston to build our dental practice. This was the biggest mistake we ever made. The brand new building they built was flooded 6 times before we even moved in. After every rain water would pour in from everywhere, the roof, the walls,... They couldn't figure it out and fix the problems. They have no pride in what they do. They were always behind, their work was faulty and lacked the basic construction knowledge. We hired a seasoned inspector to help them out, instead they were very unprofessional and rude to him. Long story short, after they built a half finished building that was not water tight, not only they did not address the problems they went ahead and put a lien on our building and filed a lawsuit against us. After many different occasions of water intrusion, mold started growing and we had to spend significant amount of money to clear the mold. We ended up hiring another contractor and rebuilt a huge portion of the construction that we had already paid these guys to do. They didn't pay many of the subcontractors. We heard from two other dentists that they also had terrible experience with these guys. They seem nice at first but that is far from how they actually are.
