Ok, first off my burger loving ass whimped out and ordered the junior burger. I don't know what made me doubt my powers - but I definitely could've handled the regular. Anyways, I dug the fact that I had a real good burger for lunch, but one that had fresh ingredients and an eco-friendly twist to it. You know, so I can tell myself I'm actually doing my body good by eating a big ass burger for lunch every single day. Better yet, I dug how the girl taking my order answered every single moronic newbie question I had, and I basically ended up with a made to order burger delivered to my table in about five minutes. Oh, and ample lunchtime seating and having the IFC on didn't hurt either. Although I doubt I'm gonna really want to seriously rock a $10 lunch everyday, I definitely will throw this one in the rotation. read more

I had the turkey burger with blue cheese, and it was the best turkey burger I can remember having. The bread was great, the fries were tasty, and the restaurant was not excessively crowded. The fact that they bring your meal to the table is also a plus. The staff are all smiling and friendly, this is a new must-eat please for me when I visit my friend at Roosevelt U. read more

YUM!! The fries are amazing. I'm not that big on burger and fries. I only crave In-N-Out, but since we don't have that in Chicago, I try to not think about it. However, one night we decided to give Epic Burger a shot. I had that BLT and a side of fries. The sandwich was awesome. I devoured it. The fresh cut fries were a huge portion and were probably some of the best fries I've ever had. I'll have to go in for a burger next time. read more

Stopped by Epic after my workout. Ordered the Epic burger with grilled onions, tomato, lettuce, and pickles. it was very AVERAGE... nothing Epic about it. I do like the whole concept of grass-fed beef and the local farmer initiative. No idea why this place won best burger in Chicago... I have had much better. If you're in the area and need a bite, this place is decent. but don't make a trip for this burger read more

Wow. I loved this place, probably ate like 20-30 burgers here over the past year or however long. Too bad nobody running the restaurant is paying attention to the cashiers - they are terrible. I mean, god's honest, this-is-a-recession-honey-you're-lucky-to-have-work terrible. I'm paying $15 for a hamburger and a milkshake - get some good cashiers with good work attitudes who understand that customer services involves working, and maybe I'll come back. But not likely - as far as I'm concerned I walked out the other day and have no intention of coming back. read more

I stopped by this location of Epic over the weekend for a late lunch. After the indifferent service I'd experienced at the Streeterville outpost, I would rate this visit as (groan) an epic success. The line was long even close to 2 pm, when I had come in. I am not surprised, as the weather was decent, doubtless bringing the city out of hibernation. I knew just what I wanted- junior epic burger with cheese along with a fountain drink. I give this location props for being so clean and orderly even in the midst of an afternoon rush. I had no problem grabbing a place to sit down and was happy to cool my heels with my diet Pepsi and book while waiting for my order to come out. The wait was worth it, as all of the ingredients on my burger were according to my specifications. I also appreciated that the toppings, including lettuce and tomato, were fresh and not skimped. What really took it over the top for me was the fact that the manager stepped in, on numerous occasions that I saw, to make sure that everyone's dining experience was up to par. I noticed him bringing out orders, clearing away trays, and in one case rushing out after a patron had left to bring her bag that she had forgotten. When he stopped by my table as I was finishing up, he even asked me if I wanted a refill on my fountain drink. That kind of service is rare, even at upscale dining establishments, much less on a busy Saturday. I will definitely be back next time I am in the area and in the mood for a burger. read more

Let me begin by stating the obvious! Epic Burger is EPIC!! I placed an order for 2 burgers and fries but my order was messed up.. I immediately called back and spoke with the very PLEASANT Marquetta T. She was extremely overstanding of my plight and stated I should come back to get my order. Fast forward 2 weeks later, I came in to place my order and behold, I spoke with the young lady that told me me to come get my new order. She remembered our conversation and they still had my name posted to get my new order!!! That's what you call GREAT customer service!!!! Now that's EPIC!!! T. read more

Simple, organic menu. Tasty eats: single with cheddar, grilled onions and all the veggies on wheat bun. Double with the onions, blue cheese and veggies, also on wheat bun was a little over cooked but still good. Pricey for burgers but a good value considering the quality of the ingredients. Izzy soda: bonus. Won't leave home to come here but would stop by if in the neighborhood. Will try a smoothie next time. read more

My boyfriend and I had ordered online for pick up; first of all, the website was shit. Clickable links like menu and order online wouldn't click, my friend ordering at the same time had this issue too. After finally being able to order, I had typed please put a cup of ranch on the side. When we got our order back to the hotel we had found no utensils in the bag for a side salad that was ordered, no napkins, and no cup of ranch. Moral of the story, eat there so you can get exactly what you want. Also, not sure if it was a cup of epic sauce on the side but it tasted like a super spicy honey mustard, 10/10 would not recommend that. read more

The place looks great, the menu looks interesting, and having an egg on your burger is nice. But the burger just isn't that good compared to the great burger joints. Five Guys is cheaper and better. If you're not a cow-eater (like my girlfriend), apparently they have a decent turkey burger. That's probably the only reason I'll end up coming here a few more times. read more

Maybe I'm just not hip enough for this place. The burger was good - but not slap your momma and order another tomorrow good. Yeah you could taste the "beef" but it needed a little salt to bring out more of the flavors of the meat - not a boat load, just a dash really, I wanted to taste that delicious burger, not have to make an aftertaste for it. Yeah the bun is good, but lets face it, we're in Chicago, for some reason bread is just better here. (I'm convinced its the water) My tomato was mealy and white - which doesn't really scream fresh organic delight (more like jewel 99cents a pound) The fries were good - your typical fresh cut variety, which I always like. What I did love was the cheddar cheese on my burger - now I definitely could taste that wonderful Wisconsin aged cheddar. And I drank a pepsi from the fountain which was awesome - great bubble to syrup ratio - which I look for in a good fountain beverage. read more

For some reason, whenever burgers comes with a fried egg, I automatically give bonus points. The combination of burger meat with a fried egg is like happy marriage and for those who want to opt out of all that cholesterol, Epic Burger gives you choices as to what you want on your burger ranging from mushrooms to onions and the usual lettuce and tomato. The bun is the best part of the burger, lightly toasted and you even get a choice between wheat, sourdough and regular. The burger itself isn't monstrous, not really living up to it's "epic" name but I actually prefer it that way because it's easier to pick up and you don't have any soggy leftovers. I had the turkey burger and really enjoyed the consistency and flavor of the meat. Some restaurants make it too dry or too salty. Hope to try the mushroom burger next time. read more

Was craving a burger before work today, stopped in for lunch around 2pm. Place is clean and really warm, there wasn't a wait at the counter. Their menu is pretty simple, had a double with fries and a small drink. They must have a changed their policy as I paid cash, was rung out at $15 some change. Burger was dripping grease, ended up using more napkins than intended and the grilled onions probably contributed the most to that. Patties was too salty for my taste. Oh yeah, and Staff are courteous and friendly the cook did acknowledge me and mentioned someone would be with me shortly when I approached. read more

I'm stuck between 3 and 4 stars. On one hand, the burgers and fries and shakes are all high quality and absolutely delicious. On the other, this place is expensive, and so I can't see going there very often. I am glad that this sort of place exists, but it is no real advantage for me to live nearby, as I don't eat beef or spend $12 for a cheeseburger combo often. I would say that it is TOTALLY worth trying. read more

Pro's: -Nice decor, place is clean, plenty of seating -Fries are delicious -Burgers are as well, and have a variety of cheeses -Portions were huge (esp. fries) Con's: -If you would like something a bit healthier, say a side salad or an apple, to go w/ your burger they have none. It seems like they would be semi-healthy friendly as they offer organic, veggie friendly options, but some healthy heartier options are needed on the menu. read more

Their PB Enjoy smoothie is really really good. Too bad it costs 5 dollars and takes 15 minutes to make. Otherwise, it's a fucking burger joint that thinks it's a Jamba Juice that costs way too much. read more

Not Epic at all! I only went because the place served halal food. I beef patty was chewy and inadequately spiced. Also it was overpriced.

I'm pretty sure Epic Burger got me really sick, maybe because it was out of the norm eating this but eh. I'm not sure they will have my business again. It was a little pricey, and yes being there during lunch time usually is busy, but there were no seats! - Not much was Epic about this lunch for me. read more

Four stars for the effort, the very decent burger, the location, and the overall experience. One star off for four primary reasons: 1) Price. $9 for a burger, fries, and soda. Really? That's a little pricey considering other options (BK, McD, Wendy's) are much cheaper. 2) the "Epic" burger isn't really that epic. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty darned good, obviously high quality, and there isn't anything really "wrong" with it. Epic means "very imposing or impressive; surpassing the ordinary (especially in size or scale)". It IS impressive, but not imposing or VERY impressive. Epic is a stretch 3) The restaurant - though 'hip' and 'exciting', eating lunch here is an experience in loud. If they bought some baffles and maybe turned the music down a bit, it would be better. Chairs are plastic. However, it was clean, so it's okay if you don't mind a little lunch time noise 4) The 'eco' stuff. I realize this will likely leave some folks feeling good about the place, but I am a little sick of the eco-movement. Meh, don't care. To be honest, when a business tries to sell itself as 'green', I am generally disinterested. As a matter of fact, it kept me away from epic burger. However, I can tell you that they do make an effort to be eco-friendly, so if that is your thing, enjoy. The cups appear to be plastic, but are made from corn, compostable, and recyclable. The beef is organic, as is the veg and potato. They are sincere with their eco-friendliness, so again, you know, hooray or whatever. Are there better burgers? Sure. In-n-Out are light years ahead in terms of flavor and are so good, they make me feel ashamed of myself. But they are strictly west coast. If I won a mega-millions lottery jackpot, I'd set up a meeting and bring a few in-n-outs to the Chicago area and donate the millions I'd make to charity. Portillo's - yes, portillos is known for beef. It is great. Their burgers? Amazingly good. Probably the best in Illinois. If you haven't already, go get yourself a double. Don't screw around either, get it with everything. It's messy to eat, but easy to enjoy. Beefy and juicy, flame broiled and filling, Portillo's remains truly 'epic'. I've had experiences eating Portillos burgers. Try it. Trust me. To sum up: if you are in the loop and want a good quality burger, and don't mind the noise, give Epic a shot. read more

I went here with some friends with no expectations prior to going in. One friend of mine recommended that I get the turkey burger. I ordered the combo with hand cut fries. I was in shocked when I was asked if I wanted wheat or white bun and how I wanted my egg!!! It turned out that they put a fried egg on top of the turkey burger patty! The meal was great, I was impressed. Everything from the bun, turkey, egg, and fries seemed to melt in my mouth and wasn't hard to chew or swallow. The music was Hip Hop and R&B and and it was all good...probably since it is connected to Columbia College's University Center Dormitory Building. I definitely plan on going again and trying some of their other options. read more

Epic Burger has so many options, but I had the turkey burger with egg, bacon, grilled onions, havarti cheese and epic sauce. OHHHHH MY this was the best burger I've ever eaten. The reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because they told me Epic burger was a chain. So, I fly back to New York and I look for Epic Burger locations, there are none. None! EPIC BURGER YOU NEED TO SPREAD THE WEALTH. Please come to NY, and then come to every city in the country! I'm serious, I can't wait until the next time I'm in Chicago. read more

i never eat burgers. NEVER. (well, the last time i ordered one has got to be at least 10 years ago.) but i liked the sound of "epic burger"....i'm always up for epic eating experiences. and when a bunch of my red-meathead guyfriends came to town, we decided to give it a whirl. it was truly EPIC. sooooooooooooooo good. the truly perfect burger has to have all the little parts just right. you need good bread, good meat, good cheese, good sauce, good tomatoes, good lettuce, you get the point. mmm....the constellation of all those perfect pieces....the flavor was perrrrfect. horseradish havarti was such a beautiful addition. now THAT was a burger. also, the owner kept stopping at our table to make sure we were ok and didn't need anything else. everyone was very friendly. i will still continue to shirk burgers always...but epic burger's epic burger will keep me coming back whenever i need my once-a-decade fix, er, maybe once-a-year. read more

Great food, decor and service. A truly great burger. If it was a dollar less then it would be perfect, and I'd be curious to see how they handle a rush of people, but overall a high quality experience - very well done to ownership and staff. read more

Nice place to eat. Beyond Burger taste great. Shake was good too. Maybe go back again.

Discussing what's wrong with this restaurant makes my stomach hurt. I won't do that to myself or to you.

I'm from California and an In-n-Out and Fatburger fan, but this was the best burger I've had, maybe ever. Hand made patty, fresh veggies, blue cheese and crisp bacon. Epic lives up to the name. read more

"Epic" has a special meaning in the soundtrack of my life. Rather than the dictionary meaning, I can still see the vinyl spinning round in those bluish-purple colors on the living room stereo beneath the 70's hanging globed light. As a kid, it was a close as I could get to a mirrored disco-ball. Epic, of course, meant "Epic Records" home of the former Jackson 5 singer whose name I shared. Dancing at home on Friday nights, I pretended to be living "Off the Wall" & wondered what it would feel like "Working Day and Night"...ooh Lawd. That kind of work could only be rewarded with an "Epic" meal. I found it in this modern-looking burger joint in the near South Loop after a long day's work. After climbing past the tragically hip chain smoking college students who loitered outside the door like littered cigarette butts, I opened the doors to delicious. Of course I'd heard of "Epic Burger". It's called hype. In rare cases it's well-deserved. This is one of them. I ordered the BLT sans the organic fried egg. I don't do eggs on BLTs. Sorry. Back to the burger: a finely-crafted meal. That nitrate-free bacon was some of the best I've ever had that wasn't covered in chocolate. Long, meaty strips curled across the sandwich and hugged the bottom of the bun. I'm sure the lettuce tasted fresh but I wouldn't know since I kind of inhaled the BLT in a scary way especially because I'd ordered to go. My BLT never made it out the door. Seeing and smelling something so inviting, it was just "Human Nature" to devour it. Then their were my two shakes - a strawberry and a peanut butter - that kind of made it home. Wow. I had the ice cream shakes. Both had a great consistency - not too liquidy or too gloppy, they were just right and the rich flavors really set them apart. Epic? No, I reserve that word for The King of Pop. But satisfying? Yes. I'd definitely moonwalk back for another BLT and shake. read more

As a voracious carnivore, I am always on the look out for the next best burger. Epic Burger joins the ranks of my top 10. The place is eclectic, and is Chicagocentric which I like. Its nice that this place seems to care about where their product comes from (free-range beef, eggs, and nitrate free bacon), and I believe you can taste the difference. So I sauntered up to the counter and ordered what I order at any burger place that serves fried eggs. Cheddar cheesburger with bacon, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, and I had to try their "Epic Sauce". Also what is nice is you can choose from white or wheat bun. I chose the wheat. I got the combo which included fries and a drink. They handed me a number and I sat and awaited this grandiose meal. When it came out it looked delicious. The fries looked a little over done, but upon tasting they were delicious. The burger was messy (see below for why) but was delicious. The fries weren't over done, and were tasty. They reminded me of highschool and a hotdog joint around the block that basically just cut the fries skin on and tossed them into the fryer. The only problem with the fries were that there were not enough large pieces. After eating the largest pieces I ended up with the equivalent to bread crumbs. The small pieces of potato were too annoying to pick up and dip, you would need a fork to eat them at that point. After digesting this meal, I came up with some opinions on the place... 1. If you get the burger with egg, and you like ketchup on your burger, forgo the "Epic Sauce". Reason: It's just too much sauce. Between the ketchup, broken egg, and Epic sauce it turns the bun into mush. It was extremely mess to eat and I wish I hadn't done all that. 2. This place is definitely a step up from Mickey D's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. And the price matches it (12 bucks for everything i got) But what makes it so expensive is the fact that they use free-range beef, eggs, bacon, which I don't mind since I feel better about it than getting that $1 double cheese at Mickey D's. 3. I like that they have different burgers (turkey, portobello, etc.) but where is the veggie burger?? I can't take my fiance here because she doesn't eat mushrooms, but will eat just about any veggie burger. All in all it was satisfying and I will be back. read more

My co-workers have eaten here a couple of times and they love the place. In honor of my manager's birthday I decided to give it a try and join in on the Epic Burger goodness. Yeah right :-/ The wait was long even though we made it a point to go before the lunch hour rush. I had a epic burger with everything, bacon and cheddar cheese. Sadly to say, I wasn't entirely disappointed but i wasn't blown away either. It was just a good resturant quality burger. Nothing special. Wait a minute....wow i paid $12 and could have just went to McDonalds and paid half of that for basically the same thing. Ok i originally gave this spot 3 stars but now reality has hit and I have to bring it down. Sorry Epic you're definitly not Epic at all :( read more

I wish we could give half stars, I'd give Epic a solid 4.5. Second best burger spot in the city, right behind DMK. DMK outdoes them with their creativity, but Epic is just a solid all around burger. A nice variety of fixing, but not overwhelming as they keep to the basics (grilled/regular onions, a handful of artisanal type cheeses, white/wheat bun) along with a few extras like the fried egg (which put my burger over the ege and almost put me in a food induced coma...just to clarify, that is a good thing) and nitrate free bacon (which means its healthy for you right?). The patty of the burger is thinner than a traditional patty, but provides a nice texture with the quality beef and slightly crispier edges. Fries are addicting as well, I haven't had a shake but colleagues swear by them. Its on the outer edges of the loop, so get there while the weather is still nice (although it will be worth bundling up in the winter to get my Epic fix...). They are also a "green" establishment, with recyclable packaging, organic ingredients and energy efficient appliances, but honestly with food this good they could be serving them in those nearly indestructible styrofoam big mac containers of the 80's while spilling toxic waste out their back door and I wouldn't flinch twice. Lunch will run around $8-10, a little pricier than a standard burger and fries in the loop, but its worth the extra $ for the fresh quality ingredients that really make a difference. read more

Holding at 4 stars because In & Out Burger is my all-time fave, but Epic Burger is about as good as burgers get here in Chicago. Love the wheat bun, love that I can get my onions grilled or raw, love the sauce, love the meat, love the cheese. Love it. Also major kudos that the place is eco-friendly. Recycled napkins, organic ketchup, silverware made from plants? Love it. read more

I'm vegetarian, and this 'foodie burger trend' hasn't always been easy to follow as someone who doesn't eat meat. Enter Epic Burger. They don't just have the blah, ho-hum veggie burger that everyone else substitutes as a passable sandwich. They have this spectacular marinated portobello mushroom cap that has the same meaty texture and full flavor that a burger would have (if I'm remembering that correctly). But the crown jewel of this place is the fries. The fries have such a good flavor that they stand up well to no ketchup or other sauce. Also, you can get a fried egg on you sandwich. I am a fan of anything you can put an egg on. There are so many choices as to how you can eat this mushroom deliciousness that I don't think my bank account would like to find out how many there are. That's right kids, this place is expensive for a burger. I think the combo (burger, fries, beverage) is around 10 bucks, which isn't cheap for a fast food-esque lunch. Sigh...five dollar foot long it is... read more

Epic Burger is not your usual burger joint. You place your order and then sit down and they bring it to you. The $10 meal deal is great. A burger, fries and a fountain drink. They give you too many fries so you can share one order if you are there with someone else. The meat is juicy, the wheat bun is divine and the cheese is real cheese, Wisconsin cheddar. The decor is minimalist and modern. I will go back and I will try a frozen yogurt strawberry shake. read more

Got a cheeseburger here when I flew into Chicago pretty late and Epic Burger was one of the only places open near my hotel. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The patty is thicker in the center and thinner at the edges, so the center stays moist and juicy while the edges get crunchy and carmelized. Very tasty. Or maybe I was just very hungry. read more

Burgers and chicken sandwich are pretty good but are ridiculously overpriced. The fries are pretty consistently lousy and there's no good excuse for it. Oh where to begin. This was my second time at Epic Burger. The first time was horrible, but I went again as this time I was dragged by my girlfriend who was craving a burger. See, we live in the University Center and the cafeteria usually has burgers, but tonight was Pad Tai night, which like vomiting poop. So we settled on EB. What a mistake! To start, the burger was the greasiest piece of meat I have ever seen. The fact that this place tries coming off as "healthy" and "organic" is a scam. So what if the fried egg is cage free or the cow was treated nice before it was slaughtered, you're still eating a greasy burger with a fried egg. Who cares if it's on a whole wheat bun, it is still soaked in grease. And the fries, oh god, the fries. Bone dry and plain. The menu talks up how they are cooked with trans fat free oil and sea salt, but it's still oil and salt. It's funny how many gullible art school kids will go to this establishment expecting a healthy, humane burger. By the end of the semester they will all be 75 lbs heavier. What a shit hole. BTW, $10 for a burger, fries, and a drink...............I'm going to Mcdonalds. read more
