The team had experienced a technical outage, still took our order and when their systems were back on line, realized that they couldn't process the payment and gave us the meal for free. In times where restaurants and service industries are struggling to keep employees, this team went above and beyond. Specifically, I'd like to call out Fausto the cook, their GM Chrishan and their cashier, Ken. They were serving customers, taking orders, and delivering excellence even when their systems didn't want to cooperate. Decided to try this place hungover this weekend. I was pretty impressed. The service was fast and the staff was so friendly. Portions were good and didn't feel like it has been sitting out all day. I got the single burger with cheese and bacon. I also recommend getting extra epic sauce since it was very good, as was the cold brew coffee milkshake. Pro tip: extra epic sauce. My partner in crime and burger time got himself a turkey burger topped with grilled onions that I *almost* ate by mistake... it looked so good! And I got a portobello burger that was just as good as any meat-y burger I'd ever had, topped with Wisconsin cheddar and a fried egg on an amazing wheat bun. I chose to get a side of fresh cut fries and douse them in malt vinegar - the best! I only wish I would've ordered an extra side of them as vinegar fries are my weakness... if they were able to toss some cilantro on there I might never have left. The burger at first and last bite was amazing. I like that I could cut it down the center and all the filling ish didn't come oozing out. It was big and extra stuffed but it was organized and one of the least messy burgers I've ever had. Epic is counter service and they bring the food to your table and clean up after as well. The staff here on this past Tuesday was exceptionally patient, welcoming and friendly- especially for it being so close to closing time. When my husband and I walked in here for lunch after some shopping in the area, I thought "does Chicago really need another burger joint?" I wasn't really in a burger type of mood so decided to order a PB smoothie instead. While I did enjoy my smoothie, I did have some food envy over my husband's chicken sandwich and fries. So much so that I ate about 2/3 of his fries...only fair since I'm eating for 2 these days! My husband loved his lunch so much that he asked if we could come back for dinner that very night. While we didn't make it back that night we went back a few weeks later for dinner. This time I jumped on the chicken sandwich, fry and soft drink combo bandwagon. I topped my chicken sandwich (served on wheat bread) with lettuce, cheddar cheese and grilled onions. I've had a lot of chicken sandwiches in my lifetime and I think this may be THE best. The burger meat wasn't bad. Bacon was awesome. But what was so wrong, was the fried egg cooked to "over hard". Who puts a fried egg on a burger that isn't dripping, practically still chirping? No yolks, folks! Seriously wrong. Handcut fries were on the soggy side and mostly small pieces too hard to pick up. Burger, fries, and drink came to almost $12. When I bit into my burger I was expecting Braveheart to hit me in the face...NOW THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN EPIC!!! So as I ate my lunch I tried to figure out why this place was called Epic Burger. Maybe it was the Epic amount of time I had to wait for my food... 13 minutes! Or maybe it was the Epic amount of money I paid for a burger and fries...10 bucks! The verdict is still out! The burger was okay...the meat was kind of tasteless. I did like the char on the edges (reminds me of when steak and shake smashes the burger on the grill and gets an extra burn). There was really no seasoning, such a let down. I also got the blue cheese and it was only on half of my burger...hmmm I paid full price for cheese...this economy is getting really tough. The lettuce, tomatos and grilled onions were good. Thank you for not charging for grilled onions...I hate when a place gives you free raw onions but then charges you for grilled onions. It is the same thing with a little grill action. The bun was nice too. Oh yeah the Epic Sauce comes on the burger...I got mine on the side...the sauce is not that Epic...it is Thousand Island sauce (which I can get on a Big Mac or Big T Burger). Come up with an Epic Sauce if you are going to call it that! The hand cut fries were nice, but I asked for them crispy and they did not come out crispy...it is not that hard...just cook them a little longer then you have been doing all day. The menu also talks about how the fries are seasoned with sea salt...it would have been nice if they actually put some of that sea salt on the fries. They were so bland. I had to put my own salt and pepper on them. Two positives....there is a free parking lot....and they have organic ketchup on the table. To be honest, I didn't have any idea of what Epic Burger, the restaurant and burger, looked like. The burger options were much more limited than I thought. I mean, they've got the "epic" burger, a turkey burger, chicken breast, and a 'shroom burger. Kinda cool. But options for toppings are slim. We've got lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and some special sauce...an "epic" sauce. They've got a couple choices for cheese, but it's nothing to go gaga over. Fountain drinks and smoothies round out the menu hitting some common drinks that you might find at a local juice bar, similar to one which rhymes with Mamba Moose. I was close to going down to two stars [hey, it says "Meh. I've experienced better" which I certainly have], except for two things: service and french fries. The gals working the counter and running the food were very nice and super quick...and the fries pretty much saved the meal for me. Seasoned very well, these fries were plentiful and had a perfect balance of crunchy and soft. On a final note, let's stop using the word "epic" please. PLEASE. Today, service was the key. Granted, it was prior to the lunch rush, but the staff went absolutely out of their way to make this an enjoyable visit. For that, I will be back every time I'm in Chicago...which is about every three weeks. I ordered an Epic burger and fries...no big deal. But right after my food came out, I received a work call. I stepped over by the window, where it was a little quieter. After taking the call for about 15 min, I sat back down. Having noticed I was away for a while from my food, the employee insisted on bringing me out a fresh order of fries. I said no, it was my fault they were Coke, but he insisted. A+ customer service there. And to top it off, as he dropped off my fresh order of fries, and headed back, the manager was walking by, and said "Nice job." to him. Are you kidding me? Not only was this phenomenal service, a restaurant manager who recognizes it, and encourages an employee for that behavior. I'm a sales manager for a medical device company, and I often don't see other managers recognize things like that, and encourage that behavior. Well done guys! read more

The patty that came was a little bit messy because there was a lot of mayo and cheese on there. The patty is rarely cooked so it's not good to eat. I find it watery and not juicy. The fries were cooked nicely. It's crunchy outside and soft inside. It has an equal amount of salt. Their shakes were delicious. It's sweet and soft. I find it very yummy. After a wonderful experience at the Royal George Theater, we went to Epic Burger on the way home. You order your burger at the counter and they serve it to you. I ordered the Epic Burger Classic with lettuce and tomato and a fried egg. I also ordered their fries. If you like your burgers thin, smashed against the grill to generate a crust, this is the way they make it here. Personally, I prefer a thick and meaty burger, but as far as the thinner burgers go, this was good. Honestly, I don't recall what I thought of the fries. So, they must have been passable. The decor is modern and airy. It has a cheerful feel to it - and others seem to like it well since it was pretty crowded when we were there. My fiancé and I decided to check this place out after we got coupons from I Heart Halal festival. There's parking available right in front of the shop Surprisingly enough for a rainy and chilly spring day, this place was not as popping as I thought it would be. Anyways, we didn't wait in line for too long and I ordered a cheeseburger. I was pleasantly surprised that they charge you .99 cents for cheese? Seriously? Is that how you promote a more mindful burger- charge people .99 cents for one of the key pieces to an amazing cheeseburger? To make matters worse, the cheese selection is limited to Aged Cheddar, Premium Blue Cheese and Horseradish Havarti. I wish I could attach an eye rolling emoji to really show my annoyance level. I don't like any of the three choices but I went with the lesser of the three evils and selected the aged cheddar. Also, they charge $1.89 for avocado- like what?!? For a burger? This is a casual place- I can get two avocados for that price! I was really shocked. Anyways, I selected the grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes with French fries. My fiancé and I waited for our burgers about ten minutes. I put Dijon mustard and ketchup on my burger and took my first bite. I was disappointed the moment I took a bite- the ends of the burger meat were so crunchy. I was really surprised at the texture of the burger and that it wasn't a hearty burger. Like it literally looked like someone had taken the remaining batch of ground beef. It was also super dry- it didn't have that smoked taste nor a pleasant aftertaste. Also, one of the reasons my fiancé and I decided to check out Epic Burger is because we were told the beef is 100% halal and so as we're eating our burger, we see an advertisement that says, "Want halal? Just ask for it". So my fiancé and I are looking at each other like, "are our burgers halal if we didn't say it?"- Well, it turns out that the burger meat is 100% halal but the epic burger sauce contains white wine so you do need to tell them that you want a halal burger so they can be sure to include the epic burger sauce that doesn't contain white wine. Talk about complications! The French fries were okay even though my fiancé complained the whole time that they had no salt on them- I told him that's what he gets for not eating ketchup with his fries :). However, compared to similar concepts in the city, this definitely isn't the best. The burger concept at Epic Burger seems like it would be good and relatively inexpensive. However, my lunch ended up costing over $10 by the time I was done ordering. I was told that I could substitute a milkshake for a soda, but I wasn't told about the upcharge. The fries were acceptable, but were a bit greasy and not salty enough. The burger was good, but the special sauce seemed to be mayo and ketchup together.
