The Good Tile - New bathroom

    The Good Tile

    (39 reviews)

I hired Eliab of The Good Tile to remove our 90s bleh kitchen floor tile, remove our backsplash…read moretile, and install over 300 square feet of new flooring tile plus new backsplash, and extensive accent wall tiling in the backsplash tile. My new floor tile has a pattern, and the backsplash tiles were 2.4" x 8" ceramic hand glaze ceramic tiles, and so neither would be easy to install unless the tile installer was very skilled. I thought the review photos on Yelp showed Eliab already has an extensive body of work done well, and I loved that he specializes in tile so I knew that he should be very competent at it. And he and his guys Salvi and Rafael were excellent! They worked hard and did very precise work. That was a ton of cuts and joints to line up perfectly with all that subway tile, and it looks wonderful. The cuts around light switches and power receptacles: also precise. He was as good as his word about showing up, doing it right, and cleaning up as they went. He earned my trust, was good to work with, and I would happily hire him again. I definitely recommend! I will post pictures for now as is - but keep in mind the construction is still going on so they will not look as great as they should. I'll try to remember to update our photos when the remodel is truly done.

UPDATE: Your…read moreresponse is not accountability. It is damage control, and it is misleading. You keep trying to reduce this to a "misunderstanding" about the plumber, but that is not what happened. You recommended and coordinated the plumber as part of the project, and the plumber stated that you already knew the correct rate. Yet I was quoted a lower amount up front, which made the situation feel like a bait-and-switch once the job was already underway. You cannot bring someone into the project, benefit from the job, and then act like his pricing and your communication had nothing to do with you. Your claim that you did not leave anything unfinished is also contradicted by the photos I uploaded. The kitchen tile work was not completed. That is not an opinion. That is visible in the photos. Your latest claim that you "only charged for what was carried out" is also misleading. I paid for the majority of the kitchen tile work, and the kitchen was still left unfinished. Saying you did not charge for the uncompleted portion does not erase the fact that I paid substantial money toward a job that you did not complete, then had to hire another contractor to finish. The most serious issue is that you were supposed to return the following week to finish the tile work and dispose of the tub. I texted you to confirm the schedule and materials. You did not return my calls. Then you did not show up. That is not a misunderstanding. That is a no-call/no-show. A professional business owner does not ignore a customer, fail to show up, leave visible unfinished work, and then publicly try to rewrite the facts. This was a horrendous experience involving misleading pricing, unfinished work, ignored calls, a no-show, and added expense. Homeowners should look closely at the photos and be extremely careful before allowing The Good Tile into their home or paying them for a project.

Jon Nuckels Custom Tile Installation - Before project

If I recall, I think we did a facetime chat and I provided pictures for his quote. He was very responsive both on text and phone when I asked questions to coordinate with our carpenter. He showed up when he said he would. There were a couple of marble tiles we didn't like and he removed/replaced them with others without any objection. The attention to detail is incredible. I'm a very hard customer to please and I couldn't find one thing on the entire project that was amiss and I've been living with the completed project for several months yet.

He took her design and improved it and gave good feedback on how to make it better. We're very happy with the results. Just recently we bought a Big Green Egg and I made a custom table to go around it. We wanted to tile the top with Loteria tiles so we called Jon again. We had a pattern in mind, and he gave us some feedback on how the Loteria tiles could be setup...we went with his recommendation and are really happy with the results. In summary, he does great work, but he also gives you guidance on what will truly work. If you go with Jon for custom work...follow his advice...he truly knows what he is doing.

We bought our home in Austin and originally hired another flooring contractor to install brushed…read morewhite oak engineered hardwood throughout the house and on the stairs. Unfortunately, that experience was a disaster. The floors were never properly flattened, and the installation was a complete botch job. We found Julian online, and from the start he was professional, knowledgeable, and confident in how to fix the situation. He came by, explained how he could remove the damaged flooring and would install everything correctly, and gave us a reasonable timeline and rate. We decided to move forward with him, and we are so glad we did. Julian and his two crew members were outstanding. They were always on time, incredibly respectful of our home, and as clean and careful as possible throughout the project. Their professionalism and attention to detail really stood out. Julian also kept us updated throughout the process by sending photos and videos along the way, which gave us a lot of peace of mind and helped us see the progress being made. He also went above and beyond when we asked to add extra work to the job, including tiling our fireplace and removing a built-in bookshelf. Not only did they handle those tasks beautifully, but they patched the wall and ceiling so well that you would never even know the bookshelf had been there. Julian also installed the flooring on our stairs and made a few recommendations about the flooring pattern that ended up making a huge difference in the final look. His experience and eye for detail gave us a much better result than we even expected. What started as one of the most stressful parts of our homeownership experience ended as well as it possibly could have thanks to Julian. We only wish we had hired him from the beginning. We highly recommend Julian to anyone looking for a professional, skilled, and trustworthy flooring installer. Thank you, Julian, for making our vision come to life with such a beautiful and professional installation of our brushed white oak.

Not sure why our original review was taken down by Yelp? We had our bathroom tile chipped by someone working for Floored. Also, the days they were here our bathroom was disgusting...other contractors did not leave our bathroom covered in urine, that was them. Probably the worst was the attitude of owner, Ty Storey, getting upset with me when his tile guy installed the wrong tile. In an agitated state he angrily stated it was not his fault the vendor sent the wrong tile, to which I agreed. However, it was his fault the wrong tile was installed --- the Floored staff should do better than rely on the client to accept the wrong tile. That's what he wanted me to do. That tile sat in their warehouse or store for over a week before it was installed...absolutely no one checked to see if it matched what was ordered. Our experience with Floored continued to be unpleasant because of the horrible relationship they have with their sub-contracted installers. The client is put in the middle having to reschedule after last minute cancellations and no-shows. Nightmare! A very expensive and tedious nightmare.

I called Ty and Mike at Floored in desperation before Labor Day Weekend to see if they could possibly start that weekend so we could move our things into our house by the end of the weekend. I was shocked when they said they could do it and they actually followed through unlike other companies. Miguel and his colleagues, who work for Ty, did most of the work and did an amazing job!
