Art did an excellent job tiling our front porch, original review below. So when it came time to tile our unfinished 400 sq ft back patio, I knew he was the person I wanted to use and therefore did not even bother to get any other quotes! I had to wait a few months for his schedule to free up, but I knew it would be worth the wait. We have an outdoor kitchen built into the patio, as well as stucco pillars on two of the corners. For design, I choose 8x8 hex tiles with a 12x24 border tile, so all of these elements complicated the design install. Before cutting and installing tile, Art went to great lengths designing the layout, so edges lined up, the pattern looked symmetrical and I didn't end up with random small bits of tile to finish edges. He also made sure to install the tile as close as possible to the stucco pillars while allowing for a drainage channel around the stucco. For a grout decision, he created a few grout boards for me with different colors, so it made it easier to see what the final realized grout color would look like. He kept me updated on the way with questions and feedback so I could make design decision changes as needed along the way. I've added before and after photos and in summary, couldn't be happier with the finished install and have had great comments from guests on the finished project. Art takes a lot of pride in his work, will take the time to do it properly and will keep you updated along the way to ensure you are happy with progress and therefore the final product. If Yelp let you give someone 20,000 stars, I would. We had a fantastic experience with Art as we dealt with a previous homeowner's horrifically atrocious DIY remodel of the master shower. The homeowner did just about everything wrong (including choosing ugly tiles), and Art masterfully diagnosed the problem and rebuilt the shower with excellent craftsmanship and above-and-beyond helpfulness. Art was very generous and thorough with giving advice and a diagnosis of the problem (with a few different options depending on how thoroughly we wanted to deal with it), and when the problems turned out to be worse than anyone could have known (requiring a total rebuild), he was able to fix everything with great skill and attention to detail. He was very tidy, communicative, and personable. Unlike other tile contractors I'd contacted, Art was very careful to thoroughly examine the shower before diagnosis, and clearly knew what he was talking about. He was careful to preserve the surrounding tile and glass. He also is very good with design-thinking, helping you to come up with something beautiful and purposeful. I'm not sure whether there was some divine intervention involved when we called Art to take a look at our two bathrooms, but we are certainly happy to have found a breath of fresh air when it comes to contractors and skilled craftsmanship and his work speaks for itself. To begin with we had him out to inspect our 5-10 year old "remodeled" bathrooms, one of which was beginning to accumulate mold and soapscum no matter how many times we had companies come to re-grout the shower. It also didn't drain super well either. On inspection, he allayed our fears and provided a wealth of insight into what he felt was causing some of our problems and said he'd get us a quote on taking each bathroom down to the studs for comparison shopping if we decided to get them done. He also explained his process for building waterproof showers/tubs (https://arttileandreno.com/2018/02/10/how-to-waterproof-showers/) and how the prior DIYer (and many tile companies in general) likely made some waterproofing/drainage mistakes. This was our first taste of how awesome Art is to work with. In no less than 24 hours he provided us two quotes (one for each bathroom) with a detailed breakdown into material and labor costs for each. Now that kind of a response, that quickly is UNHEARD of in all my years of homeownership and dealing with many sub-par contractors. Based on his knowledge and great quote we decided to have Art knock-out both our bathrooms. Luckily, fate had it that he had an opening to get started the next week. He showed up on the first day early and on time and worked late into the night for the first few nights to get the dusty/dirty demo of our main shower done. We very much appreciated the long hours and weekend work Art put into demoing the shower (not to mention the several inches of concrete Art hammered through to start rebuilding the shower). He also made sure our lives were not impacted by his work - he always put down drop cloths so he wouldn't track any dirt our debris through the home and kept the dust contained to the project area so we could live through the project without much disruption. He came out to our house to do a walk-through a provide a quote. He was extremely thorough and knowledgeable and seemed to be the perfect fit for our project. He emailed me 6 days later (Friday) letting me know it was taking him a little longer than it typically does, and he was hoping to have it by Sunday. Honestly, I appreciated the proactive update. Well, Sunday came and went and no quote. Another week went by, no quote and no update. I followed up again, 2 weeks after the initial visit. No response. I sent one final email two days ago, and still no response. I have no idea what happened but it's very disappointing to wait around for a quote while missing out on booking other work. After the great work Art did on our patch/texture/paint project, we decided to have him back to look at a tile issue in the master bath. We'd just had a new master bath installed a year ago, but the tile work was really poor. The shower pan wasn't sloped correctly and therefore wouldn't drain and the grout in the shower floor, the niches in the wall and the bathroom floor was pitted, stained and with pieces missing. Art said fixing the grout was an easy job and could do it quickly. Fixing the shower pan slope and tile would be much more difficult and wasn't even sure it could be done but offered to try. We gave him the green light and he got to work. As before, he finished early and under budget. We couldn't be happier with the result. The shower pan now is properly sloped, the grout and tile work is excellent. And the whole bathroom finally looks right. He even took the time each day to ensure that any remaining materials or debris left over from the work were cleaned up. It's rare to find someone in this business who will give you the straight truth and Art does that and then backs it up with true craftsmanship. Art has done a few different kinds of work for me. I've used him for repairs at my rentals & he has been awesome for all of that. He replaced a concrete retaining wall that had to be jackhammered out (it was a HUGE job.) He even fixed one leaky roof area that several roofers & handyman services never were unable to fix. He always gives me options & lots of info so I know exactly what I'm dealing with too. At my home, he replaced my tub surround tile & a leaky window in the shower that was causing all kinds of problems & wouldn't even open. He explained a lot about windows in showers being problematic (which I researched & found that he was telling me nothing but exactly what every other expert online said) & so I decided to go with what he recommended, which was a glass block window. He'd have put in whatever window I wanted of course, but just gave me all the facts so I could make an informed decision. We even found one that has a vent I can open so I can still get fresh air. He removed all the old tile that was growing mold behind it, removed the moldy drywall & replaced it with new wall board with a special membrane that won't let water get behind the tile. The new tile installation was a combo of little accent tile & subway tile & it is so dang pretty. And he cleaned up really, really well at the end of each day so the rest of the bathroom was still usable even though the tub/shower area was under construction. He's very careful, detail-oriented & concerned with quality so I think that you get a very thoughtfully done job rather than something that someone just slapped up as quickly as possible.
