Get the Tri-Tip sandwich or go home! Simply amazing... juicy, tender, and dreamy. Get it with everything and add cheese. Love these small mom and pop establishments. I wonder if Diners Dives and Drive ins would feature them.. read more

it's a 3.5 star place for me. Definitely a quick lunch place (not that they are open for anything else). Fast fast fast! A much better alternative to subway. Nice friendly service, there are clearly a lot of regulars that come here. The tritip was all right, worth the $6.50 price tag. It's a place I wouldn't mind going to if it was walkable, but not worth a drive over. The tri tip was good -- but not as great as other reviewers suggested. read more

The best catered dinner I have ever had. I do not eat meat and I was surprised and happy that Englund served salmon as well as a pasta dish along with their meat choices. This doesn't ordinarily happen and it should. Besides the choices, everything was just so good! A+ all the way. read more

Derry and Englund's Cafe & Catering provided all of the appetizers and buffet dinner for our October wedding at Deer Park Villa. Derry and his crew did an amazing job and we received so many compliments on how great the food was. Derry was very professional, knowledgeable, and very familiar with the venue. We did a food tasting, and met with him at the venue prior to the wedding to go over everything. We planned the wedding from out of town, and he was very flexible to meet our schedule and limited availability. Other than selecting the food and colors of linens, they took care of everything. On the wedding day, we had nothing to worry about. They set up exactly as we had envisioned, served, and cleaned up everything without any problems. They even set aside a plate of appetizers to make sure we were able to eat. On top of that, they did everything at a very reasonable price. We are so happy Derry catered our wedding! read more

This place is consistently good. I have a new favorite, and it's the Chinese Chicken Salad! i love all the employees who work there as well. The woman working the cashier, Monica, is super nice! Everyone is really professional and they are open to fitting your orders to the way YOU like them. Love how it's a staff of women working their bootys off to serve great food. Keep it up ladies! WILL BE RETURNING! See you soon :) read more

Englund's is great food overall . But they are closed Sunday-Monday . They close at 2:30pm Tuesday-Friday . So if you can get here when they are open great but good luck with that. The only issue I would say is they put a gallon of mayonnaise and mustard on the tri-tip / steak sandwiches , even when asking for none on it I still end up with it on my sandwich so it has to get remade . But overall the food when made right is great . Also FYI the steak is always still mooing so be prepared for that or ask to get it cooked longer which is usually a no so you'll end up taking the sandwich to go and have to finish cooking the meat to perfection or well actually just finish cooking it in general . Either way I let friends and family know about this place to experience it themselves . But I takes a couple trips to get there when they are open hahah . read more

This place could be overlooked if you didn't know where to go right across the street from the golf course there's usually a line but it moves pretty quick the portions are awesome and the food quality is awesome!!! read more

Englund's Catering did a bang up job at Wedding No. 1 -- the food was great for an outdoor (Gardens at Heather Farms in Walnut Creek) venue in the middle of June! Again, the guests enjoyed their meal and it was neither too light nor too heavy for all the discerning palates that attended. read more

I tried out their highly recommended tri-tip sandwich ($6.75) during their weekday lunch hours of 11 am - 2 pm. It was a good sandwich, with generous portion of tender tri-tip strips, crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes, caramelized onions, BBQ sauce all wrapped between a decent sized French roll. Bottom Line: Service here is fast and efficient, so definitely good if you are in a hurry. read more

Went for lunch. Got what everyone recommeded (tri tip sandwich). It was a lot of tri tip but for me it lacked the tenderness and a bit of flavor. This is totally a mans place if you want quantity over quality. I would have rated it 3.5 stars. Service was quick and friendly. So for all you men wanting a huge sandwich, this is your place! read more

My sister in law used Englund's to cater her wedding and I helped coordinate things on the day-of. Derry Englund, owner, was excellent to work with. He was very focused and efficient. His staff was friendly and knew how to make things go smoothly. The food was cooked perfectly and Englunds served some of the best tri-tip that I have ever eaten. Based on many of their reviews on Yelp it appears that the tri-tip is a huge hit! The unlimited buffet menu included: Unlimited chips, salsa and guacamole bar Punch bar, coffee, tea and water service Chocolate fountain with lots of fruit and cookies to dip Fresh fruit with Englund's special creamy fruit dip Salad with cheese, dried cranberries and slivered almonds Garlic mashed potatoes Steamed broccoli with hollandaise sauce Rolls with butter Tri-tip with horseradish or BBQ sauce Salmon with dill sauce, served with capers on the side Open bar provided by bride and groom The bartender was very friendly and welcoming to guests and was neatly dressed in a long-sleeve white dress shirt and black pants. The servers were dressed in black pants, black shirts and black aprons. The staff really knew how to make the buffet table look inviting - they used different heights, mirrors and floral arrangements as well as overlayed table cloths of differing colors. The tri-tip was served at a carving station near the salmon. The staff gave extremely generous portions of both the salmon and tri-tip. The steamed broccoli was cooked perfectly! The staff did a great job setting up the event and breaking it down. Guests were pleased with the attentiveness of the servers and the quality of the food. I would definitely consider using Englund's to cater a future event. read more

Decent sandwiches and salads. This place gets PACKED for lunch, so TIP: call in your order and you can go straight to the counter to pay/pick-up to avoid the lines. Food is good, service is consistently GREAT, prices are decent. read more

I've been eating here every week (1-3 times) for the last year. Each experience never leaves me shaking my head or feeling hungry. The servings are more than generous, the staff is always nice, and the quality is consistent. I highly recommend everything on the menu! You will not regret it. read more

Had Englund's Catering for our Celebration of Life for my Mom last Saturday and couldn't have been more pleased. Derry was great to work with and very accommodating. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed it. Bonus was we had more than enough food to have dinner for our out of town guests the next day. read more

Englund's is a weird place to find, but definitely worth the visit for lunch if you're in the area. They're located in the industrial area of Concord directly across from Diablo Creek Golf Course. The place is also more take-out than eat-in friendly as the space inside is very limited. Try the Chicken Caesar Salad and Tri-Tip Sandwich. I had both items and they were off the hook. The meat is juicy, tender and seasoned just right. The lettuce, tomatoes, and all the fixings are fresh and crisp. The Tri-Tip Sandwich may even be better here than at Kinder's (less the BBQ sauce of course!). read more

This is a really cool spot to go to for lunch, they serve a tri tip sandwich which is very good and a tri tip salad which is huge in its portion size. It is a catering company primarily and can be a little tricky to find. The only thing is that it can get a little pricy for lunch items. read more

I had the best chicken caesar salad of my life here! This place is nestled in a business parkway setting. Lucky for the folks who work in the neighboring offices! The salad was almost 8.00 - a bit high you might say but in that salad's defense let me just say that it was piled high with generous chunks of white meat chicken, freshly grated parm cheese and a little bucket of fresh chopped bacon to top it yourself. They could cut the amount of dressing they give you into thirds its just so much! Very fresh ingredients only and you will not meet a nicer crew of people that work there - I challenge you to go ahead and try! read more

For a straight-up sandwich joint, you can't do much better than Englund's. As Jeremy J. says, all of their meats are cooked on a charcoal (I think) grill on the premises, they don't offer much in the way of hoity-toity fixin's but the lettuce has never been wilted and the tomatoes never tasteless. It's all about the basics, here...and the Chicken Salad*. *caps intentional and well-earned! read more

This place has the best BBQ Tri-Tip I have ever tasted. It was recommended by someone whom I asked about Kinders. This place is kind hard to find, and thee is no parking , and they are only open three hours for retail-so you know it's good. The crew here was all smiles and I even got a free soda. read more

I can't say enough good things about Englund's food, service, and staff! I used them to cater a memorial service today, and have worked with them over the past few weeks to plan for this event. Because of the nature of the memorial, we had trouble pinning down a date and a final head count. Englund's was not only understanding of this, but went out of their way to ensure that everything was done how we wanted. I actually phoned in to request extra sandwiches 45 minutes before the delivery time we had set (more people came than we anticipated), and they were able to include the extra 10 servings in my order with that notice! We sampled three sandwiches: tri-tip, turkey, and chicken. We also tried the green salad, potato salad, and fruit with creme dip. Then for dessert, an assortment of cookies and brownies. We ended up ordering tri-tip, chicken, potato salad, and fruit - out of personal preference, (not a lot of turkey eaters in the family). Everything was delicious, of high quality, and presented very nicely on black trays. I was such a fun of the fruit dip, I actually made it a point to stand nearby and "sell" it to our guests! (In retrospect, on a side note - I should have labeled it. People weren't expecting fruit dip, so they thought it was for sandwiches). I spoke mostly with Derry Englund, and then with Suzanne, Chris (delivered food), and some other staff when we went in for some sampes; everyone was so kind and helpful. We are so grateful to everyone at Englund's. Thank you for making our event run so smoothly! read more

Unfortunately Englunds didn't survive the pandemic. Understand your catering is still operational! Glad to hear that...you were the "BEST" lunch going, and you'll surely be missed!!! read more

Tri tip sandwich is great!! Make sure to call in the order ahead of time as the line gets long during lunch. The pistachio pudding is a must try. Definitely a place to try as it's much better than the other similar restaurants in the area. read more

Another great luncheon and dinner. I contracted with Derry Englung again, for two events onboard the USS Hornet museum in Alameda. Not the easiest place for a caterer to service. But once again he and his staff did a great job. Saturday evening July 19, 500 guests. A well organized buffet dinner with great food and fast service. Sunday July 20 luncheon, 190 guests. Two main item buffet with all the trimmings and side dishes. Again well organized with quick lines and great food. Not a single complaint from any of our guests, but plenty of compliments. His food preparation is just right, his staff is friendly and efficient, and even with 500 guests his buffet lines are quick. For both events he had four parallel lines and four servers for the main dish carving station. All the sides were kept full, and there were no shortages at all. And best of all..... his prices are amazingly reasonable. read more

Amazing Tri-tip sandwich. They just load on the smokey deliciousness. It was a lot of meat with a tangy yet light BBQ sauce that doesn't overpower the taste of the meat or the optional grilled onions. very filling! Cafe can be seen from road, though, it is located within an office complex with shared parking. It appears to be more of a pick-up-and-go place since they only had four tables for dining in. Yay for "power-lunches" Mmm mmm mmm... read more

If I could give more stars I would. We just used Englund's Catering for our wedding on October 5th. From the time we called, to the minute the last clean-up was complete, Derry Englund and his team were nothing but a total joy to work with!! They're professional, friendly, and came to feel like family by the end of our event. I can honestly say they made our wedding so much less stressful, and I knew we were in good hands. I didn't have to worry about a thing. And the food, even though our venue didn't have a kitchen, was served hot and delicious! People were raving all night! The bartender we had from Englund's was super friendly and so much fun, and the wait staff was incredible. I even had one young lady from the wait staff offer to make up plates of food from the buffet for my husband and I so that we could "mingle and enjoy" as she said. Such wonderful customer service. If you're even thinking about hiring Englund's catering for an event, think no more...just book them, YOU WON'T REGRET IT! From a very happy and satisfied bride! Oh, and they even packed us (the bride and groom) a to-go basket of food for our wedding night, with a personalized thank you note - where do you get that kind of service anymore? read more

The sandwich place to go to for lunch. Well flavored, no fuss, simple is better sandwiches. We especially love the tri-tip, turkey cranberry, and the pork loin sandwiches. The make it custom for whatever you feel like that day. There are only a few tables, so during the lunch rush, its hard to find a place to sit. Service is fast & efficient. read more

I went there for lunch yesterday. I read all the good reviews & figured I would give the tri-tip a try. I got everything on mine. The sandwich was excellent, More flavor than the Kinders ball-tip. My only complaints were for a $8 sandwich, it was small. Also they forget the tomatoes, but did bring them after I took a bite. I am going to try the Hot link next time I go there. I heard they are going to start serving Lumpia! YUM! I will be back at a later date! Staff was very friendly. read more

Derry and the crew were better than great! I would add more stars if I could. He did the catering for our wedding. Very professional and considerate. He thought of things that we never would. And of course, the food was terrific!!! Tons of compliments by our guests, as well. I just wish I had more special events which to utilize his services!! read more

I work right next door to Englunds so that is the only reason I know about this place. And let me tell you I love it. Their fresh salads and sandwiches are just perfect if you looking for a nice place to eat as opposed to eating junk food for lunch. It does get packed quickly but you can place orders over the phone and pick up when you get there. In the winter they have soups and let me tell you they definitely hit the spot! The owners of this place are so nice and generous and they have the best customer service ever. I was feeling very under the weather and had one of their soups and it picked me right up! And after talking to the cashier and thanking her for the soup she gave me one for the road so I could feel better. I just have to say these people know great customer service! read more

Some great food. Excellent service. Priced right as well. The pork loin sandwich is fresh and get it with grilled onions adds the perfect sweetness. We will come back for sure. No sit down for now but call ahead and the order was ready. read more

DERRY IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!!!! We had Englunds cater our wedding on July 20th and the food was THE BOMB!!!!!! First of all Derry is the real deal. When you go over your vision of the food for your wedding you will quickly realize how much experience he has and will feel WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY less stress knowing that you are in good hands. Well I remember how nice and professional Derry was when we first went in for our tasting. Extremely nice and knowledgeable he is. Now for our wedding we had this: Appetizers: Chips and Salsa/Guacamole Station and Chicken/Beef Wellington. Our GUESTS said that this was SUPER GOOD. I absolutely LOVE THE Chicken/Beef wellington (I ate about 5 at our wedding). For food we had a dinner buffet. The buffet consisted of: Tri-tip, Chicken, Mash Potatoes, Glazed Carrots, Salad, Bread and butter, and a fruit station. ALL of our guests said the FOOD was super delicious and could not stop talking about it. From my own personal opinion the TRI-TIP and Mash Potatoes were DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ate a little during our dinner but their staff saved my wife and I a plate to take to go which we devoured in our hotel and we even ate the left overs that we had the next day as well. Our guests said the FOOD was THE BEST THEY ever had in any wedding! I highly recommend Englund's Catering...at least meet with Derry and try their food. read more

Very good tri/ball tip sandwich. It is packed with meat and great taste. The staff was friendly and had fast service. The cons: sand. + chips & soda was 12+ bucks. Limited open times. The pros: I will eat here again. It was that good. read more

Great food. Best tri-tip sandwich around. Definitely a must when in the Concord area.

Weddings have tremendous stress potential. This outfit steered us through gently and surely ...never felt like we were being hustled, just guided. The day of the event itself they were prompt and professional. There were several extra touches that let us know they remembered our earlier conversations and they handled our crowd gracefully. We (family) were all so spaced out that we didn't taste the food but I had leftovers today and it was EXCELLENT! read more

We had Englunds cater our wedding. Derry is wonderful (you've got to be a little self starting because he's a busy man but he follows through on his word). They helped me through everything and answered all my questions. The food was delicious! A lot of our guests said it was the best they've had at a wedding. They even made a special plate for our TWO (of 100) vegan guests which was so cool because our friends said they didn't even expect to eat because no one ever provides something for them when they usually go to weddings. So that stood out. A friend recommended them to be because they did her wedding and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone else. read more
