Englund's operates out of a small space in a business park across the street from Diablo Creek Golf Course, near the old Concord Naval Weapons Station. After reading the raving review by my buddy Jay G., I knew I had to give this place a try. I came here for lunch with a friend on 11/15/2019. When we arrived at noon, there was already a short line out the door. A quick peek inside revealed a clean interior. There were a few tables inside (plus a couple outside) for dine-in customers. A TV on the wall was tuned to the Food Channel. By the time I was done scanning the interior, it was my turn to order. I got their famous tri-tip sandwich ($9.95) with a few condiments and avocado added ($1 extra), potato salad ($2.95), and a fountain drink ($1.75). The total, with tax, was $17.02 (pro tip: order takeout to avoid paying sales tax). The sandwich was massive and delicious! The tri-tip was seasoned with their house blend of dry rub and smoked to a perfect medium rare. The meat was tender and moist. They didn't overuse the dry rub which allowed the flavor of the meat to shine through. The portion was very generous. There was at least half a pound of meat in the sandwich. My friend couldn't finish his and had to take it home. The potato salad was tasty as well. It was creamy but not mushy. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The hubs and I went to a catered event at Rossmoor last night. Englund's was the caterer. The food was delicious! Th pictures are our half eaten plates because as we were devouring the yummy food, I realized that the caterers must have a website. At the event they had rolls (skipped), Caesar salad (delicious), scalloped potatoes (so good!), green beans with almonds (the best), salmon with a seasoning on top that was so good and tri-tip which the hubs said was really good. What a great spot for lunch! Known for the Tri-Tip which my co-worker said was great (he gave me their rub for my bbq) we hit Englund's up for lunch today. He was right. Great friendly staff with a smile. They have a good selection of numerous sandwiches, sides of coleslaw, tater salad ( you know who they call Tater Salad? Sorry Ron White just popped in my mind writing this! ), chips, plenty of drinks in the cooler as well as fountain drinks. The tri-tips are smoked each morning in the Weber's out in the parking lot. Meat was exactly how it is supposed to be (medium rare). The meat was very tender. I wish they used more of their rub on the meat as it's so good I would want to highlight that a bit more as well as a bit more smoke but that's pure personal taste and not a knock on the meat. The roll was great, soft and I loaded mine with sauteed onion, mayo and mustard with some bbq sauce. I have been looking for a great tri-tip place and now I know this is the spot! When my husband and I were looking into caterers for our wedding at the end of 2023, we decided to contact Derry, as he was a preferred caterer for our venue. Our first and only tasting was with Englund Catering. We were so impressed by the tasting that we booked with Derry. It was truly an amazing tasting experience. Derry is also so personable, kind hearted, and knowledgeable. Leading up to the wedding, Derry was responsive to all of my questions and last minute edits. I found THE meatiest tri-tip sandwich for around $10. It is loaded with a ton of meat. I ordered it with everything on it which included tomatoes, mustard, BBQ sauce, onions, and I forget what else. I was only able to eat half for lunch but it was a deliciously messy sandwich. Get you hand wipes ready for a quick clean. It wasn't dry and rubbery. This was undoubtedly a good deal for a meal. I will be honest and say if they would have used toasted garlic bread instead of a regular loaf, that would have taken it over the top! How I love garlic bread. Maybe they will see this and make it optional? :) There are plenty of other protein options on the menu, salads, and sides. It is also a small storefront with just a handful of tables to eat at. We have used Englunds a lot for large parties in Rossmoor and they never failed to come through. Derry, the owner, catered my husband's birthday party for 80 people on December 29. We had medallions of pork with three types of sauce, salmon done to perfection with dill sauce, roasted red potatoes, glazed carrots, and a mixed green salad with fabulous dressing.The tables were done up with black tablecloths with pedestals and beautiful flower arrangements. Another day, another Englund's Cafe & Catering visit. I had run some more errands again today, but much earlier in the day, so after having done so I made my way down to Englund's, and arrived a bit after 11am, which is their opening time. Upon entering the shop this time, I immediately noticed something different than going there closer to closing; the place was packed. The few tables that were there already had people sitting there, chowing down on their sandwiches, and salads. The line at the counter was to the door (not that it's that far away from the counter), but all of the staff were quick to go through the line, to make sure that everyone is being helped, and not just taking the queue one by one to the front of the counter and wait for the person to pay. They get started immediately after the order is taken by people behind the counter, and the cutting begins. They clearly know what it means to be in a rush during lunch, but of course, the quality isn't impacted which is the best part. I got two tri-tip sandwiches again today as well (not both for me), but today I also wanted to add some extras onto the sandwich. Having taken a closer look at the menu after my last visit, I decided I wanted to partake in the avocado this time as well, and also add on some chipotle mayonnaise to my sandwich. No regrets with the decision I made today. The avocados were a nice surprise because when I typically see avocado on a menu, it's usually slices of avocado. However, their avocado is actually guac style, so the texture just works perfectly with the meat, and tasted great without going too far into the guac, but still wholly avocado tasting. While the avocado may be hit or miss for some people, I do want to highly recommend the chipotle mayonnaise for those who enjoy an extra added layer of flavor to your sandwich from the sauce perspective. I will be honest, but the barbecue sauce for me last time wasn't particularly my favorite, but wasn't bad. However, after adding the chipotle mayonnaise to the sauce, it felt like I was experiencing a much different flavor profile than I had previously, and the barbecue sauce just had many more profiles to it, as if it was a new sauce of its own. It added sweetness, and a small kick (people who are afraid of spice, it's not bad at all) at the end to bring it all together. I will definitely go with this combo in the future. My final note this visit is really about the atmosphere of the place. As mentioned previously, my last visit was somewhat a bit more quiet due to it being passed the lunch rush. This time, I was able to see a bit more of the shop, and the way the employees interact with the customers. Customers might even be a stretch, as it almost seems the majority of them are just long time regulars, and they all know each other by name, and just had a very homey feel to the place compared to what I was able to experience last time. Overall, another fantastic experience at Englund's, from the food, to the price, to the staff, to the owner; they were all exceptional, and I am more than happy to say that I will certainly look forward to being one of the regulars in the future. read more

Derry catered our wedding and can I say, Derry is one of our favorite vendors that we worked with for our wedding of all time. I can't rave about him enough. Derry is the Abraham Lincoln of catering - honest, transparent, ethical, and an absolute gem to work with. It was really refreshing and stress-free to work with him. Other caterers gouge you with insane deposits and hidden fees - not Derry. What he says is the price is the actual final price. Throughout the process I saw him treat both his staff and his customers well and fairly. His team is always professional and a delight. We had to switch wedding dates and with Derry it was so easy and fuss-free. I was blown away by how he operates his business. Also, his food is delicious, quality, and affordable! It's like the In-N-Out of catering in the best way - they only do one thing, but they knock it out of the park. I eat here at least once a week for lunch. They are known for their Tri Tip sandwich and it never lets me down. The meat is cooked to perfection and has a great flavor ring on it. The sandwich comes with BBQ sauce, grilled onions and the bread is always fresh. The sandwich goes great with their bow tie salad. If you want something lighter, they have a handful of salads to choose from. I go back and forth from the Tri Tip Cesar and Chinese Chicken salad, both are great. Imagine a warm tender chicken breast, resting gently between layers of tangy BBQ sauce, mayonnaise, sauted onions, crisp lettuce and ripe tomatoes. All cuddled snuggly into a soft French roll. Wrap your hands around it and dig in. I'm getting hot just writing about it. If you want a lighter selection, I recommend their chicken Caesar wrap. It's large and filling. Enough so, that I usually have to save half of it for a later round. I desperately want to try their pistachio delight salad but they've been out the last two times I've made an attempt. There are about five tables inside and two concrete picnic benches out front, but most of the people work close by and take their food to go. The daily special the day I went was a meatball sandwich, that must have had a dozen meatballs on each sandwich with cheese and sauce. It looked amazing, if you could finish it. They have a variety of other sandwiches as well, Rueben, Chicken Breast, Turkey, Ham, Tuna, etc. The Turkey Sandwich looked great with thick slices of Turkey. They also have cut up fresh fruit, a Tri Tip Salad, and various other salads. There is no menu on the wall, but usually have some paper menus to the left as you walk in the door. The daily special is listed on a chalk board next to the drink refrigerator. I can't believe that I have driven by this place and never seen it. Well maybe I can, they have been here for fifteen years and they only have a portable sign stuck in the grass out front. They may not be big on signage, but the Tri Tip I had was fantastic. Great place to grab lunch on the go! I ordered the Tri Tip sandwich and boy oh boy was that satisfying. The sandwich was warm, meat was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of sauce. Englund's is truly a hidden gem! I am sad that they are only open Tuesday thru Friday 11 to 3 but I make a special trip from Pittsburg on my lunch break to get in there! Phone orders are the best way to go if you know what you want but Derry makes the BEST desserts in America and they are spontaneous and always delicious!!! You will never be disappointed! Derry and Englund's Cafe & Catering provided all of the appetizers and buffet dinner for our October wedding at Deer Park Villa. Derry and his crew did an amazing job and we received so many compliments on how great the food was. Derry was very professional, knowledgeable, and very familiar with the venue. We did a food tasting, and met with him at the venue prior to the wedding to go over everything. We planned the wedding from out of town, and he was very flexible to meet our schedule and limited availability. Other than selecting the food and colors of linens, they took care of everything. On the wedding day, we had nothing to worry about. They set up exactly as we had envisioned, served, and cleaned up everything without any problems. They even set aside a plate of appetizers to make sure we were able to eat. On top of that, they did everything at a very reasonable price. We are so happy Derry catered our wedding! read more
