There were a few other things he did as well. Less than 18 days after we signed the contract and made a 10% down payment he began work and he had the work completed, inspected and signed by the city four days later. The work area inside and out was meticulous with our tenant not inconvenienced. Wow! The price was great. The five year warranty was also terrific. I asked for an estimate to install a Tesla Charger, Generator Inlet, and whole home surge protector, thats all. I told them I was competitively bidding the work and this is what they gave me. BTW, I was able to get three competitive quotes for this work that were all in the $1,900 - $2,300 range, so it really was just this company being way out of line with the rest of the market. Then he tried to use scare tactics to get me to do things like spend $10k to replace all my outlets and light switches since the house was built in 2005. He also wanted me to sign a document after receiving the estimate that had not-so-fine print that removed all liability for their work if I didn't do all the upgrades they suggested, including the $10k for replace all the outlets in my house. After I reminded the estimator three times that I was competitively bidding this work and that $23k for all these unnecessary items would not be winning him the job, he pushed for the $23k option again and began telling me about their low financing options. I asked him to leave at that point. I cant imagine how many elderly people or widows are taken advantage of by these types of scare and pressure tactics.

I have used Nextdoor Electric once for actual work and also obtained three quotes from them. My…read moreusual electrical company, Blue Electrical Contractors, was super busy so I decided to try Nextdoor based on their Yelp reviews. I had them take down an old outdoor ceiling fan from my back porch and install two new ceiling lights: one in the same spot as the ceiling fan and the other over the seating area to provide more light (see photo). The job cost $572 which I thought was a little bit high, but I wanted the work done. Two big issues with the job: First of all, the technician didn't install the round ceiling light insulation discs in each fixture (see photo) which is to my understanding required to meet Underwriters Laboratory requirements. (The insulation is used to reflect heat from incandescent bulbs.) He also cracked one of the plastic conduit hangers so that it was actually broke. I found the insulation thrown in the garbage and had to dig them back out and have the technician come back to put them in and replace the broken hanger. Also, wasn't really keen on the fact that he used plastic hangers vs. metal to hang the conduit. Another issue was that I wanted a multi-outlet switch in my garage changed out to a standard outlet; see photo. Nextdoor quoted me $187 to change it out. Caido, from Blue Electrical Contractors stopped by and I had him look at it. It was only a cover; Caido unscrewed one screw and the regular outlet was underneath. I could have done it had I known this. It took Caid 5 seconds to take the multi-outlet cover off and he didn't charge me a thing. Okay. This is ridiculous! $187??!! This shows me the technician from Nextdoor Electric didn't even know what he was quoting. I was speaking to Caido from Blue Electric about Nextdoor and how I will never use them again, but can't understand their great reviews. Caido was telling me that Nextdoor's reviews could be fake and/or purchased. I really am questioning these reviews. I will never have them do any work for me again. Go with Blue Electric the next time you need electrical work; I have used them for years.
