I didn't even know all the right hair terms to describe the look I was going for, but somehow he completely understood me and absolutely nailed it. I wanted long layers, movement, volume, curtain bangs, and a style that would still look good on lazy days when I just wear it naturally curly. Chip worked his magic and made it all happen. If I could give Maxine 100 out of 10 I would! I found her using Yelp and based on all the great reviews, I decided to book an appointment with her. Every interaction that I had with her from the very beginning when I called to talk with her about what I needed with my hair was handled super professionally and in a friendly way. She was fantastic at the consultation part before we got started, and really listened to all of my concerns because I was having some issues with breakage and I've been trying to resolve this problem for six months. I needed some color help and also have gray roots, so it was fantastic she was able to help me. I know this is gonna be a process since my hair is longer and needs to grow out to take care of some of the damage that's already there, but I feel really great about the plan that we put together. I went ahead and put a reminder in my calendar to book an appointment with her in three months so that I can get my split ends trimmed on a regular basis. I made an appointment for a haircut online, was greeted by Maxine the moment I walked in. She was super nice, easy going, I told her what I wanted and BOOM, she made it happen. We talked about our lives and got to know eachother a bit, which it's so important you vibe with your hair dresser and vice versa IMO! When I walked in it was pretty busy, the lady at desk very nice, I asked if there was anyone available to give a haircut. I didn't have appointment but she said come back in 30min. So I returned and Maya was my stylist. I stumbled on this salon by accident. It was recently taken over by a new owner and the interior has been redesigned. But that's not the great thing about it. Maxine Price knows how to cut hair and how to help repair damaged hair. The other stylist in the salon appear to look like they know what they're doing. One of the most awful experiences EVER with stylist Anna. I brought my daughter to dye her hair a darker shade of brown . It was supposed to be a dark blonde/medium brown what was shade 6. And we walked out with tears and pitch black hair! The advice we got from the salon to "get it lighter" was to wash it every day with dawn dishsoap. I needed to find a new reasonably priced hair stylist for a haircuts. A longtime friend recommended Lucinda Bordin at Studio 99. I was delighted with the the preciseness of her cutting, hair layered but carefully blended. She listened carefully and the result looked great. Also enjoyed Lucinia friendly style. She was interested in me personally as well as what I wanted. Studio 99 is tucked away and it's helpful to look first for Big Five parking lot. The shop will be to your right upon entering. It's good to check in with her a couple weeks before you actually need the cut to save a spot as she works part time. I'm eager to try a couple of the coloring techniques she suggested sometime. read more

I purchased a Groupon in December of 2011 for 3 shellac manicures afterwards I found out there is only one nail tech (Brigitte) and she only works 4 days a week 10-5 & not at all on the weekends which made getting an appointment almost impossible especially since she seems to run a Groupon deal every few months. I finally got in 6 weeks later and the space was small and creepy, she charges additional $$ to remove your polish, and then my nails were done horribly with no attention to detail at all, they chipped the next day and 2 nails broke all together because she didn't coat the sides of the nails with polish so they snagged, this was by far one of the worst manicures I have ever had. Since I had purchased a 3 manicure package I thought I would give it a second try but I couldn't get an appointment within the Groupon window and Brigitte wouldn't honor the other 2 manicures even though it is Groupon's policy that if you redeem the Groupon by the expiration date it doesn't matter when you finish up the total package. Brigitte is rude and unprofessional so if you are looking for a professional manicurist in Vancouver KEEP LOOKING! read more

I had a wonderful haircut from Tien a few weeks ago. It was great when I first got it and has grown out very nicely. I have curly hair and find that many people don't cut it well but she did a great job. I had been recommended her or Misook but was also told that everyone at Studio 99 was great. I recently got my nails done. (I had bought a groupon) my nails looked like I had done it. They were rough, and there wasn't any paint on the sides of my nails. It was just on the top! As I gained friends I asked for referrals and found 3 different friends that were totally pleased with PJ at Studio 99. I made an appointment and have never been dissatisfied! Over the past 5 years working with PJ I have changed hair styles a number of times. She can execute all of the styles and even make me look good during the transitions. PJ listens to my needs and desires. She is friendly, accommodating, and also knowledgeable of health and safety practices. When I had scheduled, I told the receptionist that I would like a phone call to go over pricing with my hair stylist that way I could get an idea what I was looking at cost wise since this would be my first visit at this salon.The receptionist told me my hair stylist Anna would call me to go over pricing. Never did I get a phone call. I shouldn't have to beg for their business, as a customer I should at least be acknowledged by my stylist etc.Would not recommend this place to anyone. Have been getting my color and cut here for over a year. They have worked with my color formula (I'm not an easy color client) and I couldn't be happier with both my cut and color. I work and they are always willing to accommodate my schedule..even coming in to do my hair in the evening! The pricing is incredibly reasonable. This studio is a great value. read more

I went to some lady here for a manicure and pedicure because I was looking for a new place in Vancouver. She was very unprofessional, rude, and did a horrible job on both my finger and toe nails. She claimed to have been doing nails for over 25 years but she was not good at. After I read Mel's review below I knew I was not the only one who received a horrible paint job... She really only painted the top of my nails not the sides, she filed 2 nails on each hand and got polish on all of the ends and cuticles which she did not push back or trim. Overall horrible experience. I will never go back and have told everyone I know to never go there. read more
