Some Regress, Vata Evolves. Vata Salon was closed for a few months during the state-wide government shutdown, and in the midsts of all the turmoil, Hollie (the owner) was doing these helpful online videos, which gave tips on how to manage your hair during the lockdown. They were thoughtful, uplifting, and informative. As soon as the restrictions were lifted, they reopened, and they handled the arduous task of rescheduling the backlog of appointments with a professionalism that I haven't seen with other businesses. Thank you!! They took time during the forced hiatus to update the salon with the latest in equipment and safety measures, like limiting the amount of people in the salon, an air purification system, roomier work stations, and the ultra sanitizing of each station in between clients. You can have comfort in knowing that they offer a professional service in these times of uncertainty. Masks are required to enter, along with a temperature check and hand sanitizer at the door. I've been coming here for years, and always leave loving the my color and cut. I wouldn't think of going elsewhere. Vata has found the right balance of know-how without being stuffy. You know you're in good hands. Even though you can't see it beneath her mask, the receptionist always greets me with a smile. They have become my logical family, and I love them dearly. read more

Went into Plaid Pantry to get a drink, was inside for about 3 minutes...came out to my vehicle in the parking lot with an extremely stuck on green parking warning sticker that claimed parking lot was for salon and plaid pantry parking only. Unacceptable behavior on part of the Salon staff to stick that on my vehicle. I'm disabled and live my life in 100 percent pain, now I have to spend my time removing this sticker. They should be ashamed of themselves, harassing a disabled person this way. read more

I picked this salon because it was near a family member's home when I was in town to visit, and because they are an Aveda salon. I hadn't colored my hair (or been into a salon for a cut) since before the pandemic, and it was summer of 2023. The next available stylist was Jenny, so that's who I booked with. I've seen her a few times since. This salon is pretty busy, so you may have to wait a week or more to get an appointment. I've been very happy with the quality of Jenny's work, and I feel Vata is worth that wait. Jenny found a semi-permanent formula for me that blends out my grey sufficiently to make me happy, but doesn't grow out with ugly, obvious roots. She listened, and gave me exactly what I wanted: a natural, easy to maintain look. I don't live locally, but I now schedule an appointment with Jenny every time I come to Vancouver, WA to see my family. As another reviewer wrote, Vata never pushes products on you, but everyone seems happy to assist if a client has questions about the products they sell. It's not as luxurious as some salons nearer my home, but I'd rather pay $100+ less and skip the "free" champagne! This isn't a cheap chain place, but it isn't as pricey as some urban and upscale suburban salons I've considered in the past. When I asked a question about patch testing for a potential new service, another cosmetologist spent a few minutes with me to discuss my concerns. I'll probably book future visits with the esthetician now, too, at least to try some services out. read more

There is no central spa booking & communication is bad. Apparently, each stylist handles bookings independently. First I booked with someone who seemed to be a match, but then she canceled the appointment with no communication. Then I tried another stylist and booked an appointment time she had available, but the next day she called me to suggest other dates and times - bizarre. At that point I had spent almost a week trying to book a hair appt, gave up on this operation, and moved on. read more

I had a fantastic experience at Vata back in February with Yoshi! I came in for a balayage and haircut and was a bit nervous, I haven't colored my hair in about ten years. Yoshi took great care of me during our consultation, and the service exceeded all expectations!! I could not be happier with my hair and have had so many compliments since then. Thank you Yoshi!!! 10/10 recommend. read more

I've been coming here for about 10 years. I live in Washington County but I go up to Vancouver because (1) the salon is great and (2) the prices are lower than in the Portland area. I get full highlights, base color and a cut, sometimes a keratin blow-out, always satisfied with the services. Have had a number of stylists over the years, they move on from this salon, as stylists do everywhere, moving out of the area or going to other careers. read more

Please see more information and medical bills here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qZ8T9UIRsyw4un0Kg5ftxvilfMrDtIpiKp1JKIqSXM8/edit?usp=sharing Update 01/22/21: Ken, all the websites including yelp already removed the pictures you posted and your review as it violates privacy laws and their policies. In my opinion, your actions represent you as a person who does not care about policies, rules, laws, and standards. Can't you comprehend that you are harassing me by posting my face without a consent on the internet and violating my privacy? You can keep posting your review over and over again with my pictures as much as you want and then they would be deleted again by the websites' moderators. I have all communications with the websites via email where you posted my face and would bring it to the court at some point. I also have a time stamp every time you post the same review. I believe the statute of limitation for me to go to court is 2 years. I have not forgotten about what happened at your salon and I already contacted other people you treated the same way including an elder woman, Janis, who is 72 y.o - she left a review here 4 years ago! At some point, I would find time to bring all the documents to the court including those I have not posted. I still believe you mistreated me and keep mistreating me because I am an expat woman. I believe You probably think I am a vulnerable person who you can silence and pressure. Also, judge by the post on FB, it seems that you ask people to leave your business good reviews and offer them Aveda product kit( please see the pic.) is not it an equivalent of buying reviews with gifts? If the owners or stylists ever mistreat you, you can report their business practices and complaint about their customer service to the attorney general. Here is the link where you can submit your complaint: https://fortress.wa.gov/atg/formhandler/ago/ComplaintForm.aspx There is a separate section on Attorney General's page that's dedicated just to complaints. The Attorney General is able to bring legal actions against businesses in the area. Also, it is very important to notice that stylists are contractors and can be sued separately from the business. If a stylist damaged your hair or/and skin, you can report the stylist here: https://www.dol.wa.gov/business/cosmetology/coscomplaint.html. Judge by other 1-star reviews, this salon already treated other people the way they treated me which is absolutely unacceptable from a business and humanistic perspective. Hope this info would be helpful for some people. Update: I never received any apologies from the owners and the stylist. Moreover Ken keeps posting the picture of me that violate privacy. yelp already removed his reviews twice due to issues with privacy rules. read more

I am new to the area and came here to get my root done. The receptionist was very nice and welcoming. The 1st time my stylist was Lianne. I let her know I had greys on my hairline which really bother me. I let her know they can be stubborn to color. Thinking this would be a good heads up on how to deal with my hair. This salon uses AVEDA color. Which didn't work on me! The color left my greys greenish in color and the shampoo and conditioner left it dry and looking dull. On a side note, Lianne didn't have time to finish my hair and I had to leave with my hair half wet. She only partly diffused my hair which made it frizzy. I called and let them know what happened and how I still had greys. They apologized and asked me to go back so they could fix it. This time it was with Willma. She was very sweet and she redid my hair. She also took the time to dry and flat iron my hair. I let her know that my scalp was sensitive from the last visit and she put the heat on low and kept checking in on me. I left the salon with dry hair and with my greys. I paid for the service and didn't get what I paid for. The place is nice and so are the employees, but clearly, the products suck for my type of hair. As I am writing this review i am sitting in a new salon getting my hair redone again for the 3 time in 3 weeks. read more

I went to Vata Salon to have my hair done by Yoshi. I had a specific idea in mind for my color and brought photos. Yoshi explained that there was a possibility that it might not work because my hair might not lighten enough. I understood but wanted to try anyway. Unfortunately she was right, but she proposed another idea that would give my hair the bit of drama I wanted just in a different way and I love it. She is a wonderful stylist who's extremely skilled and knowledgable. she will try everything she can to make you happy, but won't compromise your hair. No matter what though, you'll leave happy and feeling beautiful. read more

I have always had difficult hair to cut and I'm also very hard to please. I've actually been seeing a barber because if my hair is gonna get butchered, I might as well pay $20 instead of $60-$70 with tip. I decided to give Ryan a go at Vata and he actually listens to what I want done and then has the ability to cut my hair the way I want it cut. I've had him cut my hair three times now and he's been very consistent. I think I finally found someone who can cut difficult hair. In addition to their hair cutting; they also have a spa for Manicures and such. I've been told they also are good at coloring. The atmosphere is comfortable, clean and you're offered water or coffee when you first come in. Nice and laid back...highly recommend this place. read more

PARENTS BE WARNED: If, god forbid, you have childcare fall through and you have to take your child with you, they will kick you out. I have been going to this salon for a long time and never had any issues. After my previous hairdresser left, I had an appointment with Alicia. She did a fine job, so I made a return appointment. Today, because childcare fell through, I had my daughter with me. She had her ipad, and would have sat quietly watching her shows. I was told by the receptionist that because they "throw bleach around" they don't want kids in the back. Then Alicia came out and said it was salon policy that kids are not allowed in. I told her that I would sign a waver taking responsibility for anything that might occur, and they basically told me to leave. WTH?! Really? Why, because it would disturb the ONE other client they had? I've been in the salon, when people have loudly been watching videos and talking on their cell phones (even after repeated warnings) and they were not been asked to leave, despite requests to stop. Nowhere on their website or in any of their written materials, does it say that kids are not allowed. I am so upset that I took time off of work to come in and have this be the result. Rest assured, I will not be coming back. Nor will my mom who also used to frequent the salon. I hope it was worth it Vata. read more

On my first visit, I was kindly greeted with a welcome gift and shown to the waiting room. It is a funky and modern design that compliments the Aveda culture. I got along well with my stylist and am happy with the results. The prices are fair for the area; however, they don't offer any discounts for multiple services. I'm satisfied with the style and color, but felt it took a little long and I wasn't blown away. The salon is clean, creatively decorated, and a nice neighborhood spot! I would recommend it. read more

Worst salon visit ever...and I have been going to Aveda salons for about 20 years. I brought my 12 year old in to get a haircut. His stylist was great and provided an excellent consultation about how to properly care for and style his hair. About mid way through the cut a different stylist possibly named Ryan asked us to wait in the lobby while he sanitized. I said that I would not leave the room because I didn't want to leave my 12 year old alone with people I didn't know but I would definitely stand and he could sanitize etc. He asked if he could get passed me and I told him he could do whatever he wanted. He then proceeded to tell me I was rude about 3 times, I was hovering and I was in everyone's way. I asked the stylist if it is your policy that parents are required to leave their kids. He said he thought it might be about covid restrictions. I was clear when I booked the appointment that it was for a child and this policy was never communicated to me. We have used Aveda salons for years and have never had this level of disrespect. Won't be going back there. To be fair our stylist was very nice and my kids hair looked good but it wasn't worth the drama. Update I was contacted by the store manager who did offer to reimburse the price of the haircut and still let the stylist keep his money which I appreciated. read more

I bought a Groupon for a microdermabrasion treatment. Called to schedule the appointment and the gal was quick and super friendly. Now I like a good deal, and Groupon can have them for sure. What I hate is that sometimes you are treated differently because you bought a Groupon and didn't pay full price. Not here. The check-in was quick and efficient and the lady working the front was so sweet. Jasmine did the treatment and she was AMAZING. We chatted and talked all about my skin while she worked on my face. Everything went smooth and my face looks great or vice versa. I highly recommend this salon and Jasmine in particular. I will be back! read more

Vata salon is great! Friendly employees, always kind and polite on the phone. My stylist Ryan takes time to review my style before ever touching my head. We discuss styling as well as the best products to make the style work. He also made sure to use the specific products for my damaged locks. I am continuing to use them at home and I can seriously tell the difference. As far as COVID, they're doing great at making sure they follow the rules while still able to make us look and feel beautiful! Highly recommended! read more

I refuse to go anywhere else! I made the mistake of going to Regis when Vata was closed due to their move, and they ruined my hair. I came to Vata when they reopened and they fixed the disaster. I've been going here for years now, and usually mix it up with the stylist. Hollie who is also the owner, is excellent but hard to book with (but well worth the wait). Booking with other stylist doesn't bother me because Hollie personally trains all of them to make sure they are at Aveda standards, and they always exceed my expectations. They offer other services such as facials, waxing and mani/pedis. All very amazing quality. Especially Hilary's famous shellac manicures! If you're looking for something festive or sparkly, Hilary is your girl. I am constantly changing my hair, and the stylists are very patient with me and make me feel welcome. So, I highly recommend Vata to everyone! read more

This review is long overdue. I have been coming to the salon for over 2 years. I work in Idaho now but I still travel almost 400 miles every 6 weeks just to have my hair done here. My hairdresser is Dannie but I have had a great experience with Ceemone (not sure about the spelling, sorry) and Hailey in the past. I have had my hair done in multiple salons in the past where I was told I cannot have my hair colored blonde due to nature of my hair. Well, the owner of the salon who did my hair the very first time I came in proved them wrong. I also like the fact that they never try to sell you stuff so I never feel like I am at a car dealership here. The only thing I wish they provided here is complimentary sensual services (head and hand massages) like they used to do in Boynton Beach, FL. I highly recommend this salon if you want your hair done the right way. read more

I felt very relaxed and pampered at Vata salon! Alicia did a great job on my hair and educated me on how to take care of it! I would've given 5 stars if I didn't get bleach on the back of my shirt with the cover top and cape they provide even though it was an accident. I will still come back but with a shirt I won't mind getting ruined. The salon itself and everyone there is nice. I am loving my hair read more

Alicia did an amazing job! I went in with a hair cut I had previously gotten at a different salon that I absolutely hated. And I was looking for a change as I have had the same style of hair for about 7 years, I told her as long as she kept the length she could do whatever she wanted and she gave me a beautiful shag look that I absolutely love! She talked to me about the products, and how to care for my hair. She's amazing I highly recommend!!! I got a nice head, neck and shoulder massage, too! She recommended some great products that I will be using religiously. Thank you so much! My home salon from here on out read more

I've been coming to this salon since moving to the area last summer. I absolutely can't say enough good things about the staff, the level of care and cleanliness, and their amazing cut and color service. I see Ryan for my cuts as I have crazy-wild curly hair. He does a beautiful job and I've never had a better cut. I use Simone for my color. She is an absolute artist at her craft and makes my color look so natural (and hides my growing grays!) I have been so pleased. The front desk staff is super professional, friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a new salon, I would highly recommend giving Vata a try. read more

I am appalled at the treatment I received from Holly (the owner or manager) at Vata Salon. I have been going to Vata since April. In October, I missed an appointment due to a family emergency. In December, I called because I was arriving 20 minutes late to a 2.15 hour appointment (full color and cut). I did not expect them to give me the full service, but to not waste the appointment I could arrive in 10 minutes to at least get the haircut or half color (I have gotten half color before because they couldn't fit a full color). They asked me to reschedule on the 22nd, which they failed to schedule. So I than had to wait till the 29th. Today, Holly called me to say I have to pay $56 to keep my next appointment on the 29th . I voiced my discontent/disagreement with this policy and she asked me not to return to her salon.. "our salon is not a good fit for you", and hung up. She wouldn't even let me talk. It is clear businesses need to have policies, but that comes with customer service. I have never been fully satisfied with their service, but stayed because I love Aveda products, it's close to home and the technician is super sweet last hair color she finally got it perfect! One thing is having policies, another is treating your customers as dispensable, unwelcome guests. She acted as an elitist financial institution and I am a street person asking for a loan. read more

I've been coming to this place for a few years on and off when I remember to get my hair cut. The last time I got my hair cut was in July I think and I don't know if the person was nervous about Covid but I was only there for about 15 minutes and he didn't really do much. Last month I had a women's hair cut with Rudy and he took the whole hour, I was super exhausted but he was really nice and kept making conversation. I have really frizzy weird frustrating hair but now that I've lived in it for a few weeks now I don't think I've ever been this happy after a hair cut. I got it cut pretty short and usually I hate the way it looks but whether it's air dried or straightened I've really been liking it. So thanks! read more

Best hair salon in Vancouver! Girls are great and the environment is super clean. Make your appointments ladies.

I have posted a negative review in the past which I would like to change to the positive one. Service as always is great (although I still miss my Aveda salon in Fltodia with all its sensual services including a foot bath and a glass of champagne while the hair is drying). The reason for my prior negative review was a cancellation of the service that had apparently happened by mistake. Vata salon were able to correct the mistake, and gave me a very nice gift of Aveda products. Ehhh. Overall, I keep wanting to like this salon more than I actually do. My first visit was great. I really liked my haircut (and I was getting at least a good 15" chopped off!) and my stylist was nice. I came back for my second cut eight weeks later, so far do good. Then, a week before my next appt. I was told my stylist was no longer there. They kindly set me up with another stylist the same day my haircut was scheduled for. Again, decent haircut and I was in and out in less than a hour. Ok, so eight more weeks later - I go in thinking I'll be seeing my second/new stylist and apparently they didn't have my appt booked! Good thing I kept the little card with the time and date that they wrote out. Long story short, I was able to be seen later that day. But, with another stylist. All in all, I had three different stylists during my four haircuts. So, that is where my "ehhh..." comes from. Going to a higher end salon I would hope to find a stylist that I can go to again and again. Someone that knows my hair, knows how I've had my hair cut and styled and can make good recommendations. Unfortunately, that is hard to come by when it's someone new every time. Another note, the front desk people were always nice but always seemed a bit clueless. Overall, ok haircuts but inconsistent when it comes to stylists and service. Oh well, back to my search for a good hair stylist! read more

Great prices for an Aveda salon--$40-45 all told, for consult, wash, cut, dry, style, tip, even a scalp and hand massage!
