Just finished getting my hair colored by Gillian at Utopia Salon and I can't say enough good things about her and the work she did! The reds turned out really amazing! She took the time to truly listen to what I wanted and it shows! It was important to me to not have my hair lightened as I wanted to avoid the damage it can do especially since my hair is somewhat naturally curly. The copper tones you see are lighter portions from natural lightening in the sun. She added a beautiful color to my roots which blends well into the rest of my hair (and my roots desperately needed it) and then also added some highlights of darker red and violet tones to add depth and dimension throughout! I just love it! Add to all this that she is an all around beautiful human being and all the ladies there were lovely! After over decade with my previous stylist I needed to find a new one since I moved but I was a bit nervous as I wanted to keep my hair healthy and beautiful! I made the right choice with Gillian at Utopia!!!! I'm paying it forward to all of you as this is where I got the recommendation for her! I've been going here for about 2 years now. Olga is amazing. My hair has always been very fine, and she is the first stylist who knows how to maximize the little volume I have. Also, this may seem small, but I really dislike when the stylist smells of cigarettes, which Olga definitely does not. I also appreciate that although she was booked, I put myself in the waitlist, and she was able to fit me in before a trip. Finally, my transgender daughter was visiting last year, and she's always reluctant to go to hair salons on her state. I took her to Utopia for a cut and color. They used her correct pronouns, treated her with respect, and made it a positive experience. It is a little pricey, but I've never left disappointed. read more

This was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had at a salon ! I t was set up with at least two to three people always at the stylist side throughout . It was high pressure sales and the absolutely most expensive hair experience in my life and I am 60 years old ! I believe her name was Olga and I asked her to cut only the ends and there was 3 inches cut . I asked her to even up my bangs and blend them and do not cut them shorter and she did not blend them nor did she listen and cut them even shorter . She had to tone my hair and it was definitely it worth over $365 for the weave and cut . I am not interested in high pressure sales , and frankly it wasn't very good not relaxing and I do not recommend this place at all !! read more

I don't normally leave reviews but after crying the entire way home I knew I needed too this time. I should've said something at the salon but I was too upset. I'm a hairdresser and normally trim my own hair when I get the time. I decided since I'm pregnant and I've been through a lot lately, that I would trust someone else to make me feel beautiful and give myself some me time. I chose this salon because it had great reviews and all the pictures they posted on their insta page looked awesome. I was so excited. I only wanted about 3-4 inches off. I have very long hair and just wanted my dead ends off, long layers and to give my hair some love. The shampoo experience was.. rough. Normally the shampoo bowl is the relaxing part but this was the least relaxing shampoo I've ever had. I figured just because the shampoo wasn't great didn't mean the cut would be bad. I understand my hair is long and gets tangled easily but when she was detangling it hurt quite a bit didn't seem like she was trying to be gentle at all. Then came the cut. She asked me once at the start before shampooing how much I wanted off but didn't verify the exact amount before she started cutting. My stomach dropped as soon as she said "your hair is going to feel so light afterwards!" I knew she cutting too much, but it was already gone. There wasn't anything I could do. She cut about 6 inches off maybe more. My hair hasn't been this short in years. I'm absolutely devastated. The cut isn't bad by any means, but it's not all at all what I wanted. The blowout was a rough dry (that I wouldn't call a blowout at all) and then curls added on after and she kept blowing the hair dryer directly into my ear. I left covered in my own hair. My stylist was very sweet, and I don't think this was intentional at all, but with how much you pay for a basic haircut i would expect the experience to reflect that. I was thinking about returning to get color done once I was cleared by my OB if the haircut went well but after that experience I can't say I'll be back unfortunately :( read more

EDIT: As a response to the rude managers comment (exactly what i wrote in my post that i knew she would do), i truly don't understand why you or your stylists cannot just take accountability. No apology, no refund, and no offer to fix the issue unless i "booked" a whole new appointment & they can "darken up" the blonde. I did not agree to THIS on my head as miss Lisa accused me of agreeing to lol. I was extremely kind in my emails when explaining how unhappy I was, but it's unfortunate that Lisa is unkind, and this review is what it had to result in. Truly truly truly unfortunate. Please don't waste your time booking here. There are so many better salons. I am very disappointed with my experience here I wanted to love it as the reviews for this salon were high on google (now looking at the yelp reviews and the disrespectful replies from the manager - I should have double checked on here first) but I ended up in tears after my appointment, with no real rectification from management. I wont say anything bad about the stylist because she doesn't deserve that as she was very kind, I just think we had a major miscommunication and I was not educated properly on the potential of my hair turning out pretty badly. Which is surprising as we had both a consultation beforehand, and we re-went over everything during the day of my appointment (and i was never once told that my hair had the potential to turn out splotchy). Only at the very end of my appointment once my hair was completely styled and it was about 10 minutes before my stylists next appointment was when my stylist pointed out that some areas of the blonde don't quite match up to other areas. I told her that since I have curly hair, I may not even notice that because it will probably blend in. I guess I shouldn't have said that because now I almost feel like thats being used to my disadvantage. I didn't notice exactly how patchy it was until i put my hair up, and noticed theres no way for me to get it to not show how splotchy the color is. Before I left the salon I thought the end results of my hair looked fine, but once I got home and saw it in different lighting, I was baffled. I did have fashion color in my hair (a pink halo) before coming in for my consultation, but by the actual appointment day, it was almost completely washed out besides some color up at the roots near the nape of my neck. I had a feeling I didn't like it after the stylist took photos of it outside in natural lighting and when I looked at them, I was actually ready to cry. For context on what I asked for: I wanted to lighten up my natural auburn hair to a natural looking copper, but it turned out more bright red/orange to me. It is uneven as well. I wanted my pink halo to just be blonde and i got about 3-4 different shades of blonde. After sending over all the photos to management, and explaining my dissatisfaction, I was told that I signed a waiver stating that my hair may not turn out the way I wanted it to, and that they could offer a shampoo and condition to potentially wash some of the toner out. I was told that the waiver was a PRICE BREAKDOWN. I'm here for my hair appointment, not to sign my life away, so I didn't think to read it the whole was through as it was reiterated to me 3x that it was just a price breakdown and I thought I was just agreeing to that price. I guess that was a large mistake on my part. But now I know if any salon has a waiver to steer completely clear. I also noticed in the emails they mention nothing of my concern about the copper being 2/3 different shades and only offer to schedule me with a new stylist to darken up the blonde for me to possibly make it more even. I understand bleaching on top of fashion colors may not always turn out the perfect shade of blonde, but i'd assume I'd walk out of the salon with at least an all over even tone. I just recently moved here and never had an issue with my old stylist bleaching over old color and having it turn out completely even. Not once. I understand Utopia trying to cover themselves, but it's okay to admit a mess up, which no one is taking accountability for. This is more than just my hair not turning out how I wanted it to turn out. If the blonde and red were all one even tone, but not necessarily the exact shade i wanted, I wouldn't have bothered complaining. But the fact that my hair is about 5/6 different colors and splotchy $300 later is insane to me. I am never one to typically complain about my services, but this was a huge disappointment for me. I just got my hair done on Wednesday and I already have a new appointment with a different stylist at a whole new salon to see if she can help me fix this. I added in reference photos of what I asked for to this post as well. I want to point out i 100% understand that hair wont always turn out like the photos, as photos can be edited, taken in different lighting, etc. Im truly just upset about the amount of colors in my hair. read more
