The very first time I called from Portland, I spoke with Joey D. & he helped me to learn more about the units - size, humidity, etc. When I first arrived, he again helped me to choose a unit that would help my stamp collection to stay dry, cool and protected. After coming back many times to retrieve items, I would often run into Curnice G. at the front office. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to answer all of my questions accurately and efficiently. With employees like these two guys, it's no wonder that my so many people have recommended this place to store items. I am amazed that I am writing a review for a self-storage facility, but Encinitas Self Storage has inspired me. This is a great self-storage facility for the usual reasons, but this place is also unique for a few reasons. The most important being that they accept packages! Yes, you heard me right, with a rented unit at ESS and just a bit of paperwork, I can have packages sent to my unit via FedEx, UPS etc that require signature. They actually accept the package and bring ti to my unit. This is an awesome service and they do it beautifully. No other local self-storage place offers this, and it is an invaluable feature for me. Also, they are just nice people with a nice facility. Everyone at the office is nice, the payment process is easy, and the facility is immaculately maintained. I've used Encinitas Self Storage a few times, and I've always had good experiences. Most recently, I had two units as I was moving between houses. I got one unit then realized I needed a second. The staff found one in the same building to make it easy on me. They were also patient with me as I asked to see several units as I was unsure of the size I needed. Last weekend, I emptied out one of the units much earlier than I expected, and they kindly let me close it out even though I didn't give the required 30 day notice. They also offer 50% off the first month! The facilities are well kept and clean. There are carts available to use to move things, and there is a dumpster. The only slight down side is the access hours are regulated, and it is hard to get in during the week if you're working typical hours. But it is worth it to know your stuff is safe. WARNING: This is a very negative review. I have rented storage space at Encinitas Self Storage since 1992 and paid them approximately $50,000 over a period of 19 years. I am a retired art professor and practicing artist, and I primarily used the space to store artwork. My complaint relates to the condition of the storage spaces at Encinitas Self Storage. Firstly, a leak at ceiling level (initially hard to see because of the darkness) resulted in mold that affected everything I was storing to varying degrees. Secondly, a crack in the cement floor resulted in subterranean termites. This crack began in the hallway and there had been filled, but where it extended into my storage area it had not; consequently, there was an infestation of subterranean termites that destroyed one of my art pieces made of wood. I photographed evidence of damage caused by both the termites and the mold. Management viewed the images and stated they would not rent these spaces anymore (indicating that my space wasn not unique in its faulty condition), but they would not accept any responsibility. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE STORE ANYTHING OF VALUE AT THIS FACILITY BECAUSE IT IS NOT WELL-MAINTAINED. read more

Super professional! They obviously take great pride in their work--It shows in their words, actions, and A+ property. My daughter and I got an informative tour from Michael. He was polite, knowledgeable, and personable. He was kind to both me and my daughter. He said he has many nieces and nephews so that explains why he is so good with kids. He is the reason we ended up getting a storage unit at this property. They are not the least expensive in the area, but we chose to store our belongings there because I felt very confident in the staff and site. I also feel appreciated as a customer. I've been a customer at Encinitas self storage the past four years. The price is fair for this market, there is enough variety in the size of the units that I have a space that works really well for me. I am actually in here once or so a week (my reality for choosing to live in a small space) so I need something that actually works for me. It does. Of note: this place is run very professionally but with a friendly local vibe. So far it's been very safe and secure. The maintainance man has a steady routine cleaning, painting, and keeping the details working. I know because I'm a professional handyman and pay attention to such things. Any improvement that would be better for me? Open the security gate to the storage area an hour earlier and/or later in the day. read more

In particular the office manager Karina Martinez has shown a professional demeanor while still managing to make me feel welcomed with her personable nature and Eric J. has greeted me with a smile and great attitude each time I've had occasion to go into the office;both exceptional people. I admit to having been tardy on my payment a couple times and their friendly professionalism in the office has stayed the same, with none of the attitude some businesses might have for late payments. Went in on a Sunday to set up a storage unit, not my first time doing this but had a great experience - account setup was fast and everything was explained very well, unit was available at a good rate, I asked for inside bottom floor and one was available and right by the door. Stay clear! cant believe the good reviews! They are very unprofessional and rude had a storage there for some time. The previous gentleman and his wife were always nice and helpful. The present management is awful they renovated and increased my rent twice in a year. The manager is extremely rude a middle age lady. Don't ever be late on the rent because they clobber you with all sorts of late fees. They power sprayed painted the interior hall ways once and ruined some shirts and never reimbursed me. read more

Had a very unpleasant experience here. Had agreed to rent a space at a given price, had started actually signing paperwork, and *then* was told renters insurance was required. I expressed my displeasure- I had been quoted a price, after all, and had put my signature on a few items- hello, bait and switch, I admit, I may have been slightly abrasive. (And I really do mean slightly.) The clerk got abusive. There is no excuse for that- if you are in customer service, you must take it all with a smile. Not everyone is suited for that. I know I'm not. Change your business strategy so that you offer a discount for people with renters/homeowners insurance rather than charging a fee for those without. It is more honest. As a customer, I wonder, if you are hiding extra fees, what else are you hiding? If I had been quoted a price plus insurance I would have no problem. The fact that I had started signing paperwork before I learned I'd have to pay more smacks of dishonesty. read more

Great location, well maintained and secure storage make this a great option for storage in Encinitas. Customer service is very helpful as well, I had to close my storage unit and it was a no hassle no frills closing and they even refunded my prorated amount that I had pre paid. The facility is conveniently located right off the 5 in Encinitas and is super clean, well-kept and secure. They often run 1/2 off first month specials and don't require a long term commitment, so it's great for short-term storage needs, as well as longer term business needs. I was nervous about picking a storage unit when I moved to Southern California from previous terrible experiences, however Encinitas Self Storage was incredible! They are a bit hard to get on the phone, but always return your call shortly after if you leave a message. Other than that, there is not one thing wrong with this place. It is clean, professional, the gates and locks work just like they say they will, the staff is friendly and attentive and answers emails almost immediately if you write them. I have had experience with a few storage centers in the past and I do think Encinitas Self Storage is one of the best. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the cargo elevators are great (although a little rickety seeming), and they offer very convenient online payment methods. They also have deals sometimes to get discounts on your first months of rent, so watch for that. The only downside in my experience is that it is a little too dark near our storage unit, so just make sure you get a unit with proper lighting when you are picking one out. read more
