Great quality wood used for cabinetry. They can custom make anything you want and are knowledgeable. Their carpentry work was excellent. Also, they have a very good selection of countertop materials and did a good job with mine. However, it is imperative that you use an architect for the design, ideas and answer questions. Communication is difficult as English is not their native language and can create misunderstandings. Nice people. Good prices. read more

If a zero rating was available, the fraudulent, deceptive and seriously abusive practices of this so called "a business" would deserve less than zero. I worked with Foro Marble directly across the street, with whose service and products I was very happy many years ago and wanted to work with the, again. I reached out to them and spoke to Ms. Barbara, at Foro and received a written email estimate with their letterhead clearly shown. In error due to an almost identical physical location, my GPS indicated that I had arrived at my destination. I walked in to Empure Cabinet & Marble and spoke with "Lucy", I clearly stated I was looking for Barbara and showed her my estimate. Lucy mumbled something incoherent and fraudulently implied that I was in the right place. She knew exactly who Ms. Barbara at Foro marble was, yet nevertheless tried to steal their business by fraud by selling me a scrap piece of stone - cash without paying state tax. Ad soon as I became aware, I came back to the store , and calmly explained what happened. Lucy screamed at me at the top of her lungs for more than 10-15 minutes, charging right into my face. She yelled at me , called me a liar, a disgusting person etc ?!?!. Fortuitously the owner was there, who feared the consequences and reimbursed me , saying the small scrap piece was not even cut yet, while Lucy again lied that it was cut and kept charging at me physically (at this point outside the store on the sidewalk) screaming and pointing her finger in my face, while the owner and I were speaking. this person is certifiably deranged. This was by far the most bizarre, repugnant, almost verging on credulity experience I have ever had. STAY AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN !! FORO marble across the street is professional, knowledgeable and customer service oriented. Superb !!! We recently completed our bathroom renovation in a 1946 building in Jackson Heights. It was a full-scale renovation - we took it right down to the studs. The centerpiece was a deep soaking tub with a marble tub surround and deck that I designed myself. For marble fabrication, I turned to Empire. Empire had a remnant of just the kind of statuary marble I was looking for at just the size I needed. There was even some leftover that they cut into pieces for my shower niche, threshhold and window sill. And because it was a remnant from a kitchen they had already finished, they quoted me a really good price. Their installers were excellent. It took them about 5 hours and they were very patient and diligent. (The corner where the double apron meets the deck was a tricky bit that they had to hone on the spot.) Before going to Empire I had read the mixed reviews here - and having worked with them, I think I understand the issues that the reviewers are reporting. Empire did a great job for me. I have no complaints. But Lucy, the owner, as has been mentioned many times here, is prickly. I chalk it up to a cultural barrier. Really, she should not be dealing hands-on with the public. She just doesn't have the customer service talent. Anna in the front office is a sweetheart. But in the end, Lucy calls the shots, and she is rough. I heard through the grapevine that she has been burned a few times by clients who didn't have the vision to understand what their choices would look like - until they were installed. So now she takes every precaution not to be on the losing end of a job gone sour. I would take some bad reviews with a grain of salt. Many many people do not have the vision to understand what their product choices are going to look like - until it's too late. It's an industry wide problem, and why its so important to employ a designer to work with the public who has that talent for customer service. As for my experience? I would use Empire again. For their great prices and great quality of fabrication and installation. My one word of advice is to negotiate your contract up front. Read it carefully. The industry standard is 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 payments. That is, 1/3 up front. 1/3 after inspecting fabrication. 1/3 after installation. But Empire will try to get you for all but a few $ before installation. This happened to me and it felt like swinging in the wind to pay Lucy almost 100% before final installation. My experience turned out okay, but if I had it to do again, I would have made sure it was the standard 1/3 at each phase. The other thing that happened that I would caution about - nearing the end of the installation, one of the installers said he was running out to get something from his truck and asked my contractor for the keys so that he wouldn't have to buzz. My contractor handed them over without thinking. Did you know that if the fabricator has your keys and the job goes sour, Empire is legally still in your apartment and can rip the whole thing out? Yep. So, word to the wise about that. In the end, my renovation turned out great and I would use Empire again. But forewarned is forearmed. read more

We used Empire to build custom cabinets and install a new countertop this past year. To be honest, I was hesitant based on some reviews but stopped by their showroom anyway. I'm glad I made that decision. Lucy was very kind and patient as we worked through many changes to the cabinets and design. They are a very busy shop and to be fair, Lucy is very busy. I witnessed people coming in to talk to her and demanding stuff instead of trying to communicate better. I am assuming now the negative reviews I saw were from people like this, as I did not have this experience at all with her. Try working together people, instead of working against, your results will be far better. Lucy was able to guide me through many small design decisions I was either unsure of or missed completely. Her CAD guy was equally easy to work with and thorough. In regards to price, they may have been slightly more but the quality well surpassed the others. The cabinets are gorgeous, heavy and very well made. My contractor was stunned at how well made they were. If you want to great quality and beautiful cabinets, you won't be disappointed here. My experience with the countertop install was also great. They measured and a week later I had a gorgeous countertop. It had some difficult cuts and there were able to cut it without a seam. I am a contractor who needed a piece of stone cut for the following day. I was promised that it would be available at that time, which is why I chose to work with this company. When I called at the appropriate time to make sure it was done, I was told that it wouldn't be done until the following week. I had given them a deposit and was in a bad situation. When I reminded the person at the store that she had promised the stone that day, she then began to extort more money for the job. This was after claiming that her workers had gone home after an emergency. Therefore she was lying on two counts. These are the kind of people that make life as a contractor very hard. I went there to buy a kitchen and she made changes to the layout that i didn't approve. Missed things that i asked for. She doesn't listen or understand the customers needs. Very frustrating. I'm in the middle of a nightmare with these people . I had a completed order for countertops, and everything was pretty OK with that, so I decided to purchase the remainder of the slab. I used to deal with a young woman named Anna, but it looks like she is no longer there. I had to talk to Lucy, speaking to her is not pleasant. She acts like your bothering her when you ask her anything. Anyway, it looks like they told us it would be a Saturday delivery just to get us off the phone because when we called after the time it was supposed to arrive, I was told that we were never scheduled. BE CAREFUL - This company is not to be trusted and they will RIP YOU OFF! I am renovating my bathroom and so I found this place on my way to Lowe's one day. I needed to get some quartz for my shower and so stopped in to see if they had what I needed. I was able to find a remnant of pure white quartz (Caesarstone) for a shower seat (a 10" triangle) which I was verbally quoted to cost $40. I also needed saddle pieces for my shower, but I wanted it to match my floor tile or as closely as possible. They didn't have enough quartz remnants, so they showed me some Limestone which was a close match. I asked them if this would be ok to use in the shower and Lucy, the owner/manager, said "yes"and gave no further information. I purchased both the quartz and the limestone and was given a receipt with only one line item (so I didn't know what each piece or what each material cost). The total cost was over $600. Later that morning, I spoke to my contractor who told me not to get the Limestone as it's very porous and will require a lot of maintenance. I was super annoyed because I asked about it and I was not told any of this by Lucy or anyone else at the company, and since I've never renovated a bathroom before, I didn't know. They were closed on Sunday, so I went back to them first thing Monday to see if they had a quarts that would match my floor, but unfortunately they didn't, so I asked them to be credited for the Limestone, as I needed to find quartz elsewhere. They credited me back $400 only and I was surprised. When I asked Lucy how much the quartz was, she said it was very expensive and that was the cost. I left a little dumfounded. Later that day I went to SMC Stone in Greenpoint and found remnants of a beautiful Caesarstone for the shower saddle pieces. There were 4 pieces in total that I ordered and the total cost came to under $550. Do the math...$250 dollars for one piece of 10" Caesarstone...that's a mark up of more than 100%. I emailed Empire the next next day asking them to credit me back more money because this was robbery, but they wouldn't. They are cheating new and future customers and I will never purchase anything else from them ever again. If you need stone, please go to SMC in Greenpoint. They are super helpful and their prices are fair. read more

Empire Cabinet & Marble created a stunning custom kitchen for us, including maple cabinets with matte painted doors, terrazzo backsplash and honed granite countertops. We initially thought custom was out of our budget and were looking at doing Ikea bases with semi-custom doors, so we were thrilled to meet Lucy and work with her team to create exactly what we wanted. Once we gave Empire our initial layout, lead designer Jayden worked with us to put all the components together in a way that maximized space and included features like a pull-out pantry, touch-open trash cabinet and an appliance garage. We went through several revisions to get everything just right and the team was very accommodating. From design sign-off to installation was approximately 6 weeks -- and we were able to visit their shop in the Gowanus to see our kitchen build in progress. Elvin, the foreman, and his team were super precise, efficient and immaculate during the installation process, ensuring everything aligned -- adjusting carefully for uneven floors and walls. Oscar and his team did an excellent job with stone cutting and backsplash / countertop installation. I had my custom kitchen cabinet fabricated at Empire. Lucy the co owner was very helpful, in one sitting we designed the basic plan, she got me quote on the spot with different options. with in a month, we finalize all the designs and elected the finishes. I was impressed with the turn around time and opted to have all custom made, which was only 20% more than the prefabricated cabinets. Along the way Lucy and her staff made sure to communicate on all aspect and the few little glitches that happened were dealt quickly . I really recommend them, I am now getting all my marble counter tops there as well. I will use them for more work and make sure to recommend them to my freinds read more

We have experienced 3 kitchen renovations prior to this one; we have had 2 bathroom renovations AND we have gone through an expansion of a second home that included additions, included a brand new bathroom, etc. so we are not novices when it comes to home improvements, contractors, installation, etc. THIS kitchen renovation was a NIGHTMARE that lasted nearly 2 years. There was NO QUALITY CONTROL on the construction of the cabinets. Some cabinets had curved routing others had square. The color of the cabinets were not what we ordered. New doors kept being made to try to match some that were there. None of the doors were ever the same color white that we had already installed and the filler pieces were always much whiter which is what we wanted. We were convinced by Lucy to buy MDF when we actually came in looking for wood. MDF is ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE - it does not hold up, the paint chips off. We finally ordered all new wood doors (for extra money of course). In addition, large filler pieces and side panels on exposed cabinets kept cracking. Lucy did send her people twice to fix this. Unfortunately, each time the paint on the same areas continued to crack and chip away. Lucy wanted a price that would have included a profit over the original profit. We felt that we had already paid for doors and installation of the job should not be something that we should pay for again for their defective product since they messed up the original order. After much negotation we agreed to a price we were not happy with nor was she but we were ready to take them to Court at this point. So another 4 months later and the new doors are up - are they perfect - NO - a couple of the doors are longer than they should be - and 1 door has a crack in the paint and unfortunately it's a door that is easily seen - Their painters came in and painted some of the exposed filler ares so it would now match the new paint and once again repainted the areas that keep chipping away - Where they painted does match - Other areas we will need to touch up with the paint they gave us. The interior of a cabinet that has glass doors was not done as it would ruined the hinges and of course it is not as white as it should be. We were explicitly told that if ANYTHING happens to the new doors or areas that were painted they are not to be held responsible and we have to pay additional money anytime they come to fix these things. In point of fact, we do not even touch the areas that are absolutely defective. The side of a top cabinet up the wall should never have a problem, should never crack as it is nowhere within reach. Clearly this is shoddy workmanship. Would have given ZERO stars but that is not an option. There are some very nice people currently working there. Lucy will YELL AND SCREAM at you in person and over the phone is impossible. She gets on a roll and doesn't get off. If you think you are getting a bargain and want to test the waters - do so knowing that what happened to us could easily happen to you. UPDATED - MARCH 2015 - Well you guessed it. After spending several thousand dollars to replace the doors, the finish is ONCE AGAIN coming away, the doors are not straight, the finish overall which was white no longer looks white (too short a time to have lost it's true color), and of course we are left with no recourse. In order to fix this job - we will have to start anew - ripping out ALL of the cabinets which will DESTROY or glass tiled back splash - perhaps the only salvagable item here will be our floor - but who knows what will happen when we pull out the bottom cabinets. Truly the worst and most costly experience with a contractor/supplier that we have ever experience an we do have 2 homes and have undergone MAJOR expansion and several kitchen and bath renovations. We got our kitchen cabinets from Empire after pricing 3 custom places. Empire Cabinet & Marble were priced in the middle, but we could tell that their quality was better and they would be easier to work with than the lowest one. We brought Lucy and Philip a picture of a kitchen we had seen online on a design website, and they were able to match it - no easy feat. Lucy was also very patient and helpful in planning our kitchen, and dealing with quite a few changes in concept along the way. After the cabinets were installed, Lucy sent someone to make adjustments, and Philip even authorized a change that was due to a mistake on our part. They really went above and beyond to make us happy. We also used them to do a bathroom vanity and counter top for us - which is also turned out so much better than anything we were seeing in the big box stores or online. We get many compliments on our kitchen and bathroom, and highly recommend Empire Cabinet and Marble. read more

The young man that was there to help us, Jason, is no longer there so Ii don't recommend them any longer. Service is just terrible now. My husband and I were in the market to renovate our entire kitchen. We went to Lowes in South Brooklyn and priced our dream kitchen. On our way home around the corner from Lowes, we drove by Empire Cabinet & Marble. We gave them our measurement and they priced and drew up the same cabinets and island for almost 2/3 the price. They have a great selection of cabinet styles and they also do counter tops as well. The project was done in less than 2 weeks and the overall job came out gorgeous. read more

Cheap cabinets are cheap. We bought our cabinets here because we got a good price and the service seemed good, and it was up until the point that they cashed our check. Just three years later the cabinets look like absolute crap - not from actualy wear, but because they are delaminating (the veneer from the core). Empire basically told us to fix it ourselves, but the fact is there is no fixing this problem. The cabinet facing needs to be redone at a cost of thousands of dollars. Empire won't take any responsibilty. My advice; don't go cheap on cabinets in the beginning, it will only cost you in the end. Oh, and beyond just the actual cabinets, they did an incredibly poor job with installation as well. The cabinets are uneven which completely threw off the alignment of our backsplash tile. We didn't realize it until it was too late. Don't make the same mistake we did. I'd rather have Ikea at this point. read more

We only wanted to upgrade a number of things and Lucy was terrific at helping me think it through, budget, and find high quality, elegant, on-trend design touches. Empire built us a made-to -order cabinet with drawers and shelves that fit perfectly into the space. The workmanship is magnificent. I can't say enough about how beautiful and perfect each angle, each drawer, fits perfectly. The hardware they used is obviously very high quality. They also fabricated the stone slab we chose for our counter. Again, magnificent workmanship. It is stunning. Lucy communicated with me throughout the entire time so that I was able to make choices and even come to the shop to choose how to arrange the template on the stone for cutting the counter. The workers who came to deliver and install these big items were extremely professional. They were also really nice and cleaned up well before they left. Scheduling and coordinating with Lucy was good too. She is straightforward and honest and I really appreciate those two qualities. Emailing with her and the other office staff (Joanna) made communication simpler. They respond very quickly to questions and requests on email. All in all, an excellent experience. read more

This is a followup to a review we wrote a little less than 3 years ago. We described the process as being incredibly stressful but thought we got decent cabinets. Wrong. Our painted kitchens cabinets, which Lucy first said received 10 coats of paint but then switched it to 6, are now peeling and chipping everywhere. They look terrible, and we are now looking at having to get new doors for all. Buyer beware! read more

Empire Cabinet & Marble completed the Cabinets and quartz countertops for a large Kitchen in my Apartment, to my full satisfaction. I waited a year to write this review, in order to make sure that no defects or malfunctioning of the hardware appeared after the installation. Empire has a top-of-the-line computerized manufaturing facility for fabrication of cabinets and Stone counters. They submitted a professional set of Shop Drawings prior to starting fabrication, to make sure all the details and dimensions are correct. They had a strict timetable and managed to meet the deadline. Before loading the cabinets for delivery, they take the time to set a mock-up in their shop, so the Client can see the entire assemblage of the actual cabinets and identify any conflicts or problem before the cabinets are shipped out. I noticed a certain detail that needed correction. Empire promptly corrected it, so we had a flawless installation. Installation of the cabinets was not included in their scope (The General Contractor did that) but unlike other cabinet suppliers, they did not just drop the boxes at the curbside. They devoted the time to bring all the boxes up to the apartment, opened each box for me to inspect the cabinets, each cabinet was labeled & numbered and the foreman patiently clarified with a diagram where each cabinet has to go. The GC was so impressed that he has started using Empire for its own projects. After the cabinets were installed by the GC, Empire sent a crew to install the Quarts counters. the counters were in various sizes and shapes and they were all fabricated with an absolute precision. So when they were brought up for installation, they fit perfectly. Empire's crew was friendly, clean and accommodating with some "field extras" I requested during the installation. Lucy, the business manager whom I dealt with, was tough during the negotiation phase but she impressed me with her knowledge of details and the array of products available in the Kitchen Cabinet industry. Once we agreed on the price, she honored it, did not come up with "extras" and delivered the cabinets and counters on time. in a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is Best, I rate Empire as follows: 1.
