The White Star team was a dream to work with. Professionals who sincerely care about cleanliness, punctuality, and time efficiency. The work was also just wonderful. They did basement baseboard install, painting, sourced french doors for closet and bathroom door replacement (after a past flooding issue), stained and installed a custom spice rack, and fixed electrical outlets in some parts of the home. Lead contractor, Vadim, was exceptionally focused on my customer experience and I appreciated his attention to detail and insuring the process has been running smoothly. I was mainly coordinating for someone else labor in their home, but Vadim and his team were on it and Vadim was a good communicator of relaying expectations and the scope of what would be done. They were also very flexible and as other concerns in the home were desired to be reviewed or resolved, once priorities were settled, they were willing to give us insight on what could be fixed the time horizon it would be addressed. If I had any suggestions or recommendation for them, I would encourage promoting 1 or 2 more payment methods and if a small fee would need to be added, I think clients wouldn't mind if it was just a more convenient method. If and when I have other contracting needs, I already know to call these contractors as they truly have given me faith in back in honest client- contractor relationships. They worked meticulously demolishing the old bathroom. White Star General Contracting was hired to paint our apartment after some massive flooding from the apartment above us. In addition, we also hired them to change a bathroom vanity in our guest bathroom and attach some large pieces of furniture to the walls. Vadim, the owner, is very aggressive with his scheduling and was highly agitated each time he came to our apartment. We found him to be extremely unprofessional in his refusal to lay down any protective floor covering despite being aware that we just had new floors installed. He also mistakenly thought that the vanity installation was in the master bathroom instead of the guest bathroom despite several email and texts back and forth months prior confirming it was the guest bathroom. The installation was poorly done and Vadim has failed to properly install the plinth base which should be touching the floor and bearing the weight of the cabinet. Instead, Vadim used the leveling legs to raise the cabinet so he wouldn't have to touch up the plaster wall but the full weight of the cabinet is poised on these levels instead of on the plinth base. See attached picture. Despite all of the above my biggest concern was Vadim's lack of knowledge regarding plumbing in residential buildings six stories and above. Vadim switched a pipe in our bathroom without our permission when installing the vanity and violated NYC Plumbing Code that prohibits the use of plastic piping in residential buildings six stories or higher. He did come back to change the pipe after I complained but insisted the entire time that is up to code and we can agree to disagree. In addition, we were charged to install (2) large bookcases, a small cabinet and hang a piece of artwork. Vadim did not attach the (2) large bookcases to the wall in my daughter's room but still charged us for the work anyway. I would NOT recommend White Star General Contracting due to my concerns regarding their lack of knowledge of NYC Construction Codes, the owner's disgruntled attitude, and their billing practices. read more

Vadim and his team were professional, honest, clean, on time, and had great craftsman ship. They were hard working and highly communicative. Vadim was also upfront and very reasonable on their cost. White Star did a fantastic and quick job putting up a wall where a closet once was, fixing trim around a built in that a previous contractor did a sloppy job on, and creating and installing three sets of custom closet doors for us. they also painted 11 of our interior doors and trim as well as removed a built in bench in our foyer. everything looks really great and they were super helpful when we weren't 100% happy with something...it was fixed right away. White Star is the cleanest and neatest contractor company that I have ever dealt with (and i have hired A LOT of them). granted, they didn't remove tiles (which is where most dust comes from), but our home was left spotless. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found White Star for our work and we would hire him again without hesitation. This was a renovation in a landmarked brownstone, caused by a fire that destroyed two bathrooms, hardwood floors and central staircase walls. Brownstones are quirky and and there are always challenges as construction occurs. Vadim is very detail oriented, highly communicative from first meeting all the way through project, and he and his team are fast and have meticulous attention to detail. Vadim is a creative problem solver, and has a great eye for design as well. He is on the project every day, checking on progress and doing hands on work himself. The extra wrinkle to this story is that although the property is in Brooklyn, we - the owners - live in california. We hired Vadim based on the strength of his reviews, the pictures of his work, and the detailed assessment he gave us as to the work that would be needed for our place to restore it. We did have the opportunity to meet with Vadim in person on the site. We traveled there so that after demolition, we could jointly assess with him whether our original plans needed any adjustment. After that visit, we were so comfortable with Vadim's professionalism and skills, and those of his team, that we did not travel back to the site until after the project was completed. Vadim is highly communicative via text, email, phone calls and facetime, so we were able to track the progress and troubleshoot with him even being across the country. He was a pleasure to work with all the way through the project. He often pointed out small details that he would take care of that we had not thought to ask for, but made a huge difference in the beauty of the finished product. We were finally able to go see the work in person and there is not one fault to find in any of the work he did. It looks even more beautiful in person than in pictures. If you need to renovate your apartment/house, Vadim is the guy you should go to. I moved into an apartment that was in move-in condition but my daughter's bathroom was just too ugly. Also the bowl shaped sink was too high for a 9 year old girl to use so she constantly used mine.) So I decided to fix it. First, the vanity arrived with broken top from Homedepot. I got so stressed out but he assured me that it should be fine as long as he gets the replacement on the last day of the reno. And then, Vadim found that we have plumbing issues, which took another few days to take care of. He was very flexible with his schedule and was fast and efficient. I hired Vadim and his crew to assemble and install a Murphy bed that I had purchased online. I was grateful to them for coming out and doing such a professional job putting it together. They are used to more complex and rigorous projects, complete renovations and so forth, so he's very experienced in all types of work. But this Murphy bed project was too complicated for me. There were errors in the instruction manual, but they were able to see the problems and figure out the correct way to put it together, despite the problems with the instruction book. I hired Vadim to repair some windows that had been installed incorrectly by the builders of my apartment. It was a small job but I was having a hard time finding a contractor to complete the work. Vadim and his staff worked hard to find an affordable solution for me. He made sure to keep my place as clean as possible throughout the process and provided me with frequent updates on his progress. We hired Vadim to manage a gut renovation of the first floor of our home in Astoria. We took out load-bearing walls and replaced them with structural beams, leveled the entire floor, replaced all of the electrical and plumbing, and installed a brand new kitchen. This was a huge amount of work that required a lot of planning and oversight, and so we knew that we needed to hire a GC who knew what he was doing and could execute quickly and who took the quality of their work seriously. From the first communication Vadim was responsive and clear with us, and his bid was lower than many of the others we received. When we decided to add things during the construction process, Vadim was fair in his pricing and did excellent work. The one thing I will say about Vadim that I think is very important in a contractor - he has integrity and wants to stand behind the work that he does. He insisted on leveling our floors, making the walls flush, and installing everything properly because he had a standard of quality that was clearly important to him not just as a business owner but as a person. He does not cut corners, he does not do amateur work, and he was straightforward with us about what things would cost and how long they would take. Along the way Vadim was there to help us with any issues that came up, and we felt very comfortable knowing he was taking care of our project. A few things I will recommend to people who are considering a renovation: Get several bids and opinions, it's important that you find a contractor who understands your vision and who you feel you can communicate well with. For us, this was Vadim. Construction in NYC is expensive, and contractors who do good work for a fair price are often booked for months out. If you are considering starting a project, start speaking with contractors now. We were lucky that Vadim was able to start our project a few weeks after we contacted him, but this could have easily been months (I understand he is booked now for the next 5 months, he's that in-demand). Monitor the work along the way and be clear if you feel something needs to be done differently, but be clear about your expectations from the start as well. Plan everything as much in advance as possible: select and buy fixtures, appliances, finishes, etc. so that nothing delays your project. If you do not have an architect or designer, you need to be aware of the things you need to be on top of as a client. It will take longer and cost more money than you originally thought it would (we went over budget because the temptation of having Vadim and his team fix additional things for us immediately was just too strong for us to resist), so manage your expectations and if possible, be flexible. Overall we were extremely happy with Vadim and his team - they were respectful, they did excellent work, and the results of our renovation after only 3 months of work are truly amazing.
