I am Christina Weppner, founder an principal architect of Weppner Architects PLLC. I am a seasoned, licensed architect, and have worked in the NYC area for over 25 years. I have worked with Gaudioso Contracting on several successful projects. One of the first jobs we worked on together was when Anthony Gaudioso's team rebuilt the street facade of a row house in BedStuy, Brooklyn, for me. His guys first got to the bottom of what had been done incorrectly by the previous cheapo contractor. They started by removing the other guys' mistakes. Anthony's guys then rebuilt the 3-storey street facade and stoop, created a fanlight over the entry door, ran appropriate wiring for new sconces that would flank the parlor-level entry way and illuminate the garden level entrance. They made sure to waterproof it all thoroughly. When the exterior was watertight, they then repaired the fairly extensive inside water damage. The finish facade, which had been approved by public hearing before the Landmarks Preservation Commission, was going to be a faux-brownstone stucco. When the client had purchased the row house, the street facade was covered in a multicolored, faux flagstone slathered on top of the wood building structure. The new finish facade required a new application of stucco as a faux-brownstone. Gaudioso Contracting provided several different color samples of the stucco finish (matched to other brownstones on the block), and as well as, color samples of alternative window colors, and entry door colors, for the Landmarks inspector's approval. As part of the stucco application process, they built up the elegant window and entry door surround details to satisfy the Landmarks Preservation Commission's inspector. They also brought in Adler Windows to replace all the water-damaged, crumbling, wooden double-hung windows with new thermal paned, powder coated, aluminum windows with appropriate brick molding to satisfy the Landmarks inspector. Gaudioso Contracting also built, painted and installed a replica of the neighboring brownstone's cornice which Landmarks approved. Their work was terrific. Each phase of the work moved smoothly and had expertly skilled craftsmen who specialized in the particular aspect of the job in hand at the time. They were on time and on budget. Disorganized and terrible customer service experience. I contacted this firm and spoke to someone in details about my project, then sent her an email with pictures and project scope, and she promised to send an estimator out. Then silence! A few days later she called me again and left a message that she was responding to my Yelp inquiry and never made the connection that I had sent an email of my project and spoken with her in details before. When I returned the call, I spoke to another woman, her colleague who claimed that they had no file on me. I repeated the same process and resent my scope of work via email. She told me she is getting dates for an estimator to come out. Then Silence. The first woman called me again to discuss my project and did not have any record of her colleagues having spoken with me. She asked that I resend the email again. At this point, I figured I had nothing to lose so I just resent the email. She told me she would get an estimator out. A few hours later she called and said her boss, the owner of the company, wanted to do a video chat and to do a video walk through of the space when I had already explained that I had not yet moved into the space and that I would need to plan ahead to do either a video or person (live) meeting. She said well "Anthony is a very busy man and I have him online to speak with you". Seriously? What about my time? I'm the paying customer! While I only hired them for a small job Gaudioso knocked it out of the park! They were communicative, respectful, and walked me through the coop approval process. They filled out all of the paperwork for me so all I had to do was sign and turn everything in to my management office. The work was done in four days and they were so thorough when it came to preparing the area for work. Not only was the work area in my unit protected but they also prepped the hallway and door knobs in the common area so the building was protected. The backsplash was installed quickly and looks amazing! We were able to add on some areas along the way and when they work was done they cleaned every area and then some. High initial quote price, but I went with them for my bathroom renovation because I needed work to start soon. Once started, thousands of dollars of change orders for basic plumbing and electrical that should have been included in the initial scope. Upcharges for simple things. The finished work quality seemed decent. Details clearly documented in the contract scope were overlooked and not present in the final product. After researching/interviewing 10+ general contractors, we knew Anthony Gaudioso was top notch. Not only did his website and hundreds of reviews on Angie's List help determine this decision, but Anthony was extremely patient with us when ironing out details of the contract, as we are first time amateur renovators who were extremely scared of being swindled after hearing horror stories from family members. We did have a few initial minor moments of misunderstandings related to communication and coordination that can be improved. However, as we saw the incremental progress with our own eyes, we were impressed and realized that not only was the team trustworthy, but their ability to build to our specific vision were high quality, and we simply didn't know them yet. A couple of years after a major project they completed in our prewar apartment, the Gaudioso team returned to do a smaller job: painting and plastering a bedroom and doing painting and touch-up after a window installation by another company that needed some tidying up and small repairs. If you're worried about cost and your budget, this is not the company for you. They were the most expensive bid but we went with this company because initial meetings were professional and they had good reviews at the time. Overall the job done was a 4/5 but we ran into a lot of issues and expected better service especially for the project price tag. We were also disappointed with the owner's disposition. Project was not completed on time. And once majority of the work was done it got harder and harder to get them back to wrap up and touch up. Some issues we ran into: floor tiling installed in wrong bathroom, vanity installed in wrong bathroom, fixtures installed incorrectly, certains areas had sloppy paint jobs, kitchen sink counter slants the wrong direction, hardwire lines not installed properly, received many noise complaints from neighbors that work was being done past normal work hours, found open beer cans in our home, and several errors in billing. Do not use their suggested architect Beth Kelley. She was not timely with responses, did not meet deadlines and had mistakes on her renderings. read more

After a lengthy search for the right contractor for a bathroom renovation (I'm a first-time homeowner and first-time renovator), I landed on Gaudioso Contracting for a couple of reasons. Anthony Gaudioso himself came out to take a look at the property, their pricing was competitive landing roughly in the middle of the 5 or 6 quotes I got, and their professionalism was through the roof. They were communicative and have a very efficient office team (Allison and Mike), and their foreman (Luis) who came out to take another look before I finalized, and also managed the project, was awesome. I had one stipulation going into this which was that the work had to be done by a certain date as I was heading in for back surgery.  They were able to commit to this and get it done - this was a huge weight off my shoulders as I was well aware that renovations can go over and that wasn't an option for me. We were so happy with the quality of the work and the team themselves - to say these folks are clean would be an understatement. We vacated the property during the project (working from home in a 1-bed during a renovation wasn't possible) and they covered and wrapped everything - I think the dog would have been wrapped too if we hadn't taken him with us. I bought all the fixtures, tiles, hardware, etc. myself, all from different retailers and essentially left them a giant stack of (well-labelled!) items, and they were able to navigate through them and install every piece without needing any assistance. I felt so comfortable with the team that I barely checked in on them and just chatted with Luis on text. I would absolutely recommend these guys again, and they're going to be my first port of call for any contracting needs moving forward! read more

I hired Gaudioso to install a new toilet but their plumber didn't apply silicone to caulk the base of the new toilet. Roaches crawled out from the gap between the toilet and the floor. I asked Gaudioso to caulk the gap but they ignored me, I endured 11 days of roaches walking around my apartment until I hired a handyman to caulk the gap. i paid not just plumber but also Gaudioso the contractor . If the plumber didn't want to caulk the gap, the contractor should be responsible. I'm very disappointed. read more

Unprofessional is too kind a word. I hired these people to refinish my floors and paint ceiling and walls. It was to be a 3 week job that after 6 weeks was still NOT done. They didn't tape around hardware or places where different colors met. They painted OVER the hardware in places. They only did a SINGLE COAT despite being contracted to do TWO COATS. Spots were completely unpainted. They didn't cover the floors and DRIPPED PAINT ON MY NEWLY REFINISHED FLOORS. We moved in to the middle of a construction zone because AFTER 3 WEEKS they still had not finished the base boards. They didn't cover our furniture with drop cloths, so everything got a thick coat of saw dust. They ran the window unit AC the entire time leaving me with a saw dust clogged and ruined air conditioner and a $150 ConEd bill. I finally complained directly to the owner after the job supervisor proved to be totally incompetent. The owner listened to my complaints and claimed he would "make it right." What happened? The next day ONE GUY came to my apartment, repainted ONE WALL, left, and no one ever returned again. At the end of the week they had the nerve to send me an invoice claiming they "finished the job". It was not finished, they were never going to finish. The pics and reviews on here are great. I sure wish I'd had the same experience. But instead, the job was a mess, the tense negotiation to settle with the owner and wife nearly ended us up in court. We ended up shorting them 25% of the total contract. Honestly, if it weren't for my wife talking me down, I would've taken these people to court and recovered everything I'd paid plus damages. The one star is for the guy who refinished the floors. EXCELLENT WORK! Otherwise I wouldn't hire these people to change a lightbulb. read more

There were a few building-related issues (none of which were their fault), which the team helped us to quickly navigate. We engaged Gaudioso Construction to perform full-scale gut renovation of the first floor and kitchen remodel at our Forest Hills home. We could not have been happier with the quality of their workmanship and are confident in recommending Gaudioso for the most complicated projects. Gaudioso's team of carpenters, plumbers, electricians, tilers, sheetrockers, and painters were all skilled and quite prideful of their craft. Gaudioso's guys were not your typical get in and get out, cut corners at every turn kind of workers. They all worked methodically and meticulously spending the time where time needed to be spent. While pictures of the end product are always great, one needs to see a project from beginning to end to fully understand the skills needed to ensure your walls are straight, your pipes don't clog, your electric doesn't spark, your floors (and hence your cabinets) are level, and and every inch of your remodeled space feels exactly right. Gaudioso's people have mastered those skills which is seen in the photos. The project was based on an architect's drawings and was subject to inspection by the NYC buildings department. The project consisted of the following in order of complexity: - Bearing wall separating a terrible galley kitchen from the dining room was removed - A 20ft steel beam installed to support second floor of house (in place of bearing wall) - Steam heating pipes within the walls were re-routed to make way for a kitchen island - Waterlines and waste lines to the bathrooms above were all re-routed to make way for a higher ceiling and increased floor area - Existing kitchen plumbing completely removed, replaced and relocated - Electric in kitchen completely removed, replaced and brought to code (incl. upgraded breaker box) - Complete reframing & sheetrocking of the entire space - Non-bearing wall removed, ceiling, adjacent wall, and floor repaired and matched with existing - Cabinets, lighting fixtures, faucets and etc all installed - Floors removed, replaced and finshed. All of the items above and numerous other ancillary items were completed within the expected timeframe and without any matters of concern. On matters of preference, Gaudioso addressed in a way that told us they wanted us to be happy. One last thing, if you've read this far. Gaudioso took ownership of anything his people did touch or (what he believed) should have touched. During the course of the project there were two unexpected occurrences. In both these situations, most contractors would have thrown their hands up and said "that's your problem". Gaudioso, without being asked, scoped the occurrences into his realm of responsibility and fixed both issues at his own expense. Any project comes with its heartaches, especially one of this scale. It's best to hire a contractor with a strong track record and people that are up to the task. Gaudioso is one you can rely on to get the job done without the typical contractor issues. read more

I had a great experience with Gaudioso Contracting. First of all, it can be hard to find a contractor to do small construction jobs. I needed a contractor to build a storage space (which required breaking a wall) and to completely strip my closets of everything inside, and to patch and paint. I had a bad experience with a previous contractor so I needed a lot of hand holding. Anthony Gaudioso and Allison, his office manager, were great people to work with. They answered my many questions and were very patient and helpful. I was also very pleased with the job itself. We contacted Gaudioso Contracting Inc a month after our original contractor walked out on us part-way through the kitchen remodel. Gaudioso was very sympathetic (we were a mess - a month with no contractor and the apartment unusable) and swiftly moved into the project. The project manager pointed out an additional piece of work that the original project manager had not noticed (that a wall would need to be rebuilt before being tiled). They completed the work to a high standard and came back to attend to a few details I noticed afterward. We now have a beautiful kitchen.
