They are the best if you are doing a large job. Smaller jobs you will pay more but you do get what you pay for ! I highly recommend speaking to John. They did my waterproof flooring and I ended up with a terrible leak and since they did such a great job there was no damage done! Admiration and gratitude are the words that come to mind when thinking about the Dunrite Design Group. The work is of superior quality and very personalized. Even though we realize that our bathroom renovation was a "small" job in comparison to what this company handles, we felt that our bathroom was all that mattered to owner John Dunrite and his crew.  We cannot emphasis enough how accommodating John Dunrite is, paying attention to all details, constantly stopping in to check the work, taking pride in the job, and even meeting with us at a tile store to pick out materials. The company's crew followed John's lead with top-notch work. Vijay, manager of the work; George, who tied it all together; and all of the workers, went above and beyond to help us through the renovation process. Even Jeanine from the central office showed constant concern and readily followed-up with our questions. No request was a problem. In short, I highly recommend John Maffio and his team at Dunrite N.Y. Inc. for home improvements and renovations. The cost of renovations can be significant and the time spent in choosing the right contractor is key. Below I've detailed the reasons why you should at the very least, obtain an estimate from Dunrite. My day job requires me to travel frequently and therefore, I'm mostly unavailable during the week. I needed a contractor where I could be hands-off and still be confident the renovations were being completed with the same standard of care as if I were involved every step of the process. I also wanted to be kept in the loop as to the progress of the work being performed. What I learned was that my renovations were being managed better than I could have imagined. John and his team at Dunrite treated the renovations as if they were working on a property they owned themselves. The words that I would use to describe Dunrite are: - transparent; - honest; - timely; - experienced; - detailed; - knowledgeable; - innovative; and - responsive. My apartment is a pre-war 1 bedroom Co-Op that needed a full renovation. The bathroom and kitchen needed to be gutted. In addition, I wanted a large window opened in the wall separating the kitchen and the living room, in order to put in a counter top bar area. I interviewed 5 contractors for the project. During the walk through with Dunrite, John not only provided ideas but also advised on certain renovations that should not be performed because the costs out weighed the benefits. John would say, "I can do exactly what you want and charge you but I believe it does not need to be done and here's why....." This type of advice was absent from all the other contractors that I interviewed. At the end of the day, the other contractors spoke in generalities and left me with more questions. Dunrite provided its estimate 3 days after the initial walk through meeting which was the quickest out of all the contractors. Dunrite's estimate was also the most detailed . All tasks and costs were itemized. I was able to verify and compare material costs to other third party vendors. Dunrite's estimate was not the lowest but it also was not the highest, it was fair and reasonable. Our second meeting to finalize and sign the work order took place at Dunrite's office and showroom. Having a physical location contributed to my decision to choose Dunrite. The other contractors seem to work out of their personal residence. Dunrite demonstrated to have a corporate infrastructure. A place where I can go or call if issues ever arose. The showroom also provided me the ability to touch and feel the materials that would be used in the renovations. As mentioned, I live in a Co-Op building where the rules and requirements for renovations are very strict. All renovations require Co-Op Board approval. Dunrite was able to navigate the Co-Op Board approval process without my involvement. Dunrite has a team of contractors lead and supervised by an on-site foreman. Depending upon the phase of the renovation, there were anywhere between 2 to 6 workers in my apartment at one time. Dunrite is not a "one man show" worried about the next job or distracted by open items from the previous job. Reliability was never a concern. Throughout the entire process, updates were provided by John. There was never one day where I didn't know what phase of the renovations were being performed. Dunrite also accommodated all my changes to the original plan without any extraordinary change order fees. Again, all fees were reasonable and fair. Dunrite was able to complete the renovations within a few days of their projected completion date. The delays were mainly attributed to events out of Dunrite's control and changes or additions that I had made after the work was started. Lastly, I can honestly say the entire experience of working with John and his team at Dunrite was a pleasure. Dunrite displayed none of the negative characterizations which many people experience with contractors. I am very happy with the work performed and would not hesitate to hire Dunrite again. Best Company Ever! After our previous contractor left our home in shambles, John M was reluctant to take the job. But luckily for us he did. Dunrite took such personal attention to ever detail. John M treated us like we were family. He kept us up to date almost daily. They truly mad our house a home. George was so prompt and kept things clean, which helped with difficult neighbors who were also frustrated with the situation. VJ was meticulous with detail. Worth ever extra penny we had to spend. This is one of those reviews that are so deserved, but as a client you internally hesitate to write because you fear OTHER people will realize what a gem you have discovered and you want them all for yourself. I write online reviews fairly rarely, unless something is truly terrible or on the flipside, if an entity has truly blown me out of the water. I don't think I've ever had an instance in the construction industry where someone deserved a higher review from me than these folks do. I live in Florida and help my mother manage a property in Park Slope. She needed to redo her entire first floor kitchen, polyurethane the floors in the entire two-story apartment, paint the apartment and we needed it done in one month (between tenants). She has been through the absolute wringer with the worst of what New York contractors have to offer, including a slew of poor performing, outrageously expensive, and/or completely unscrupulous individuals and companies, including one we had to take to court for failing to complete a job. All of these contractors had good reviews or came recommended from other people. My mom had literally given up hope on finding someone that wouldn't rip her off or give her the runaround. I desperately needed to find someone that would both be fair as well as be willing to spend some time with her. I needed someone who wouldn't get frustrated having to work with and answer questions from someone who wasn't intimately familiar with the technicalities of renovation. I needed a decent human being. I interviewed over half a dozen contractors, all of whom I found off of Angie's List and were well reviewed. Not surprisingly, a few of them weren't pleasant and one guy made it seem like I was straight up inconveniencing him (seriously?). I got some who couldn't give me a straight answer on price and some that were so high, I couldn't believe they were getting any work. I honestly don't understand how some of these folks survive. I guess people are desperate in the City these days, but I'd made up my mind to find someone I felt I could trust to do good work, be fair, and be caring before I'd let my mom give money to another "compromise," no matter how long it took. During my initial contact with John at Dunrite, he made me laugh. "Listen." He told me. "I'm the best." It wasn't said in an obnoxious way. He instantly reminded me of my grandfather who was an old school New York clothing salesman in the 50's, 60's and 70's... and I mean that in an absolutely good way. My grandfather was a true gentleman with a good heart and a great sense of humor. He was someone who deeply cared about the quality of his work and the people he sold to. I immediately got the same vibe from John. He had great reviews on Angie's list and between that and my gut, I decided to go with him. Boy am I glad I did. I provided designs that I had drawn up using an Ikea planner. He used his materials and put together a close match to their product, while also identifying some areas the Ikea folks had made mistakes with. We had a very tight timeline, and he was very careful not to overpromise in that area. He made us give him five days more than we wanted, but ultimately I was very appreciative of that because I felt he put effort into making sure he was creating a schedule that he could actually deliver on. John was always available to answer the phone if I had a question, or he would call me back in very short order if he couldn't pick up. This alone was priceless based on our other experiences. As expected, there were a few additional things that we encountered during our renovation, including having to replace windows, moving some electrical, and adding some paint work. All of these things were done at reasonable cost AND ULTIMATELY DID NOT PUSH THE COMPLETION TIME FRAME BACK. He found us high quality, expensive tiles that were on clearance and hence wound up fitting into our budget. He provided his input as to the stone countertops and we love the end-product. At our request, he did custom work on the island cabinets to make them more interesting. We finished the project on schedule and without any further budget increase for the initial project (only for the add-on items which were again, very much within reason). The quality of work was overall excellent and great care was taken to leave the house in exceptional condition when they were done. The workers were all pleasant and efficient. There were some little finishing things that needed to be addressed after the job was completed. I gave the list to John, and made a great effort to make sure every loose end was tied up. He went above and beyond to do so, including some things that were outside the project scope. He clearly invested himself personally in this project and was also very proud of the final result. John and the folks at Dunrite have indeed earned my (and my mom's) business for life. read more

If I could give more stars I would. From the moment I called, to the finished job, John has been responsive and just fantastic. I gutted both my kitchen and bathroom at the same time. I expected a nightmare. What I got was professionalism, cleanliness, wonderful attention to detail and terrific suggestions. The job was finished BEFORE the date I was given and came in at budget even with some upgrades I added. I could not be more pleased. Not only was the workmanship of the highest quality, John was literally Johnny on the spot. If he didn't answer when I called, which was rare, he called back immediately even on weekends!!!!!! I was a nervous Nelly and every time I called he was informative and responsive to any and all questions. I live in a coop that is extremely strict with allowing work to be done. He not only was able to navigate the approval process for me with ease, he was able to familiarize himself with every rule and was able to get the job done quickly and with no fuss. All the materials he used are of the highest quality. Other contractors I have worked with in the past were unreliable and unreachable, not Dunrite. He workers were on time, clean, polite and just the most wonderful people to have in my home. I work from home and was able to keep working through-out the entire process as the workers were as unobtrusive as possible and really went out of their way to minimize the disruption. There was always 3-4 guys working and you would not have not known it. To put the cherry on the Sunday, I purchased my appliances from home depot and had their people install my dishwasher and stove. They did it wrong. I discovered I had no hot water in my kitchen after they left. John send over one of his men, after his job was completed and he had been completely paid, to correct their mistake. I didn't even get a call back from home depot and John had one of his guys here to fix something, that was NOT his responsibility, immediately. That is true dedication and pride in one's work. I can't recommend this company strongly enough. His office staff are the sweetest people and every one involved made this project as easy as it could possibly be. I recently had my kitchen remodeled, all new wood floors installed and painting. After many quotes and research and upon a recommendation from a friend I contacted John from Dunrite. Upon meeting John I knew this was the company for me. John and his team of qualified, honest and hard working experts made the job seem to easy. For the past few years, my wife and I very much wanted to remodel the kitchen and bathroom in our Bayridge coop. The task of finding a contractor was not a comfortable one. Too many horror stories about jobs gone bad. However, after several interviews we lucked upon DunRite Inc. 5th Ave & 92nd St. Brooklyn. We set up an appointment with John, who came to our home and not only listened to what we wanted, but ,made many very valuable suggestions. He worked out an estimate and work schedule. We checked him out on the Internet and were happy with his reviews-so the work began. DunRite Inc. is very much a family operation, which pleased us greatly. All of the workers were extremely courteous, efficient, and knew their jobs. As things progressed, we found that John was not only a reliable contractor, but in many respects, he acted as a decorator suggesting changes that made our apartment as up to date as you can get. All the while, he was very respectful of our budget and were able to get "champagne on a beer " pocketbook. He also allayed any anxieties during the job. The job did take a little longer than expected,. However,the results were actually much better than we ever anticipated. My wife and I bought an old apartment with a lot of problems (pipes, smells, pests, etc ... ) and had to remodel the bathroom and kitchen while living inside. We knew this was going to be a lot of work and stress, and searched around a lot for contractors until we found John, from Dunrite. John and his team where super responsive from the onset and throughout the whole renovation. They helped us handle the complexity of the whole operation - from getting board approvals to dealing with building manager. John himself took a lot of the stress off the process by personally taking us to furniture and tile stores as needed, and advising us along the whole way. His team, including his office assistant where extremely efficient, always on time, and paid a lot of attention to detail. Dunrite is not the cheapest contractor out there, but he is extremely reliable and trustworthy, will go out of his way to make you happy and guarantees a good job. He knows the trade like nobody else. Our house is now a beautiful place to live in and its value has increase by a factor three more than what we paid for the renovation.
