​I strongly advise everyone to STAY AWAY from Empire Auto Protect. This company is an absolute fraud and does not honor their policies. I purchased a plan for peace of mind, but when my vehicle experienced a legitimate mechanical failure, they did everything they could to avoid paying the claim. ​Endless Excuses and Denial ​My car needed a costly repair. I followed their claims process, but the nightmare began as soon as the repair facility submitted the required documentation, including the itemized repair bill. ​On the phone, their representatives were not only unprofessional and had an extremely poor attitude, but they also constantly gave me excuse after excuse. They claimed they couldn't "hear" the details of the repair receipt or that the documentation wasn't formatted exactly how they wanted it--a clear tactic to stall and deny the claim. It's obvious they are intentionally making the process impossible to pressure customers into giving up. A Dishonest and Fraudulent Company ​I believe this company is engaging in fraudulent business practices. They take your money, but when it's time to honor the contract, they use every dirty trick to deny payment. Telling the truth and not deceiving potential clients into buying policies... I asked for full 100% coverage and was told everything is covered except suspension, by the agent. I got the policy and my coverage was 50% and maximum coverage was $2500 per year...that was the "supreme enhanced" policy... When I confronted them about this, they lied and said I wanted the cheaper policy...then they claim there is a "titanium" policy. It turns out I didn't get the car, that I put on the policy, too many mechanical issues( wiring harness, brake lines, waterpump) And being deceived by the policy, I decided to cancel within 30 days.. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY!!! Empire Auto Protects covered a previous vehicle I owned. The I was happy with the coverage and decided to get a quote on my new vehicle. The quote came back high, so I decided not to get coverage from them again. They took the banking information they had from my previous vehicle and started charging me for coverage without my permission. I contacted them and told them that this was inappropriate, and that I wanted my money back. They said no. I had to cancel my card and get a new one to keep them from pulling more money out of my account. I Filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau asking to have this resolved. Empire Auto Protects said they would close my account and refund my money. They never refunded my money. I filed another complaint with the BBB about them never refunding my money and Empire Auto Protects claimed once again they money was sent back to me when it wasn't. The BBB advised me to file a complaint with the Department of Justice to get my money back. I have been fighting with this company for 4 months trying to get my $500 back. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL and UNETHICAL! OK, there are companies that are Sh!tty and then there are companies that are complete Sh!t. Empire Auto Warranty is the latter. I purchased a policy on July 3rd 2025 and was charged $298.00. I was told I would receive a copy of the actual contract within 7 to 10 business days. I was also told if I did not like the policy I could request a full refund within the first 30 days. Side Note - Having the right to a full refund within the first 30 days isn't an Empire thing. It is the law no matter what warranty company you are dealing with. You are entitled to a FULL 100% Refund within the first 30 days. 20 Days later I received a copy of the contract and the coverage went from the Elite Plan to their Essentials Plan. The Elite being their highest level of coverage and their Essentials Plan being their lowest level of coverage. To add insult to injury the rate for the coverage when up as well. I was told that the Elite Plan would cover pretty much everything the original manufacturers warranty covered with the exception of standard maintenance items like brake pads, tires, ect. I was told that the Elite Plan was going to cost me $149.00 per month for 2 years and I would receive an additional 2 years of coverage for free. Pretty good deal right? However, when I received the plan 10 days later then promised I was given the Essentials Plan that pretty much only covers the Engine and the Transmission. That plan was going to cost me $177.09 per month for 2 years. Classic bait and switch. Upon receiving the contract I called into Empire auto protect and was told that the change to that plan was due to the company that actually under writes the warranty. I asked to speak with a manger and after a brief hold I was connected to Zack who was a complete jerk. Zack started to get loud with me and said things like I will cancel the policy right now etc. I didn't want to cancel before having another policy so I told him not to cancel the policy and I would call back. Throughout the next week received a handful of calls from Empire Auto Protect. 2 were to see if I wanted to purchase the policy and another call returning a call I never made to them. After an exhaustive search I found out the AAA actually sells Auto Warranties. Because my wife and I already have their road side assistance with them and have used used them in the past I felt totally comfortable signing up for their auto warranty. I received their highest level of coverage "Platinum" with no obligation for $167.63 per month. As mentioned I can cancel at anytime by giving 48 hours notice. I was also able to download and review a copy of their contract and was able to sign my self up for the coverage via their website. OK - So now that I had coverage I called Empire auto protect to cancel my policy with them. I call and requested too speak with a manager and was transferred to Eric. I explained to Eric what had happened and told him I was canceling the policy and I would expect a full refund to avoid any back and forth. I mentioned to Eric that by law they needed to refund 100% of my money or I would call American Express and claw the money back from them anyway. I then asked Eric to confirm the amount I would refunded and I was told that I would be refunded the full $298.00. Before I could thank Eric and wrap up the call Eric decided he wanted to become a telephone tough guy with me. Eric said "You don't have to threaten me and if you want to threaten me why don't you come to his office in Freehold off of Wyckoff Rd. He didn't give me the full address but OK. At this point I told Eric that he had my home address in Point Pleasant Beach NJ and anytime he wanted he was more then welcome to stop by and see how that would work out for him. I also mentioned he could simply call me from the Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk, The Boat Yard or any other place he would like in the beach and that I would be more then happy to meet up with him. I don't write reviews I find them suggestive at best but I just need to let folks know what type of company Empire Auto Protect is. They are a joke. To allow their employees to speak to people like that is inconceivable. Highly fraudulent. I signed up in February. Stated we have 30 days to get a full refund. I called multiple times and even texted a guy named Erik or Jay. He will lie about his name. Never received a refund until the 30th day which they charged me again under a different company billing name called WALCO. Only after I called AGAIN I finally got the initial refund. But guess what I never got refunded the second charge made a month later under WALCO. I then get charged AGAIN in April. When calling to speak with Erik he lied and said his name was Jay like a coward. Then tried making up a whole story as to why it wasn't cancelled. Then threatened me to not refund me because I left them a 1 star review. I have this call recorded on my phone. "You'll have to fight for your money I'm not helping you out." Childish business tactics. The best part is when I initially called back in February to cancel his exact words were "it's only $137 if you want to cancel go ahead and cancel we aren't concern about it." Apparently they are. I was very skeptical at first because ive seen bad reviews about warranty companies but i just had my transmission go out on my acura mdx. the cvt transmissions are terrible but empire helped get it fixed. He told me he voided my refund meaning he cancelled my refund. My brotherinlaw bought the vehicle himself purchasing his own warranty. Since I put his name on the warranty he had to be the once to cancel though I am the one who signed up and paid. The company continued to call me a liar because I "lied" about not purchasing the vehicle since in their records bother inlaw did. I did not purchase it myself as planned it was not mine, so I asked for a refund. They would not send me a refund confirmation and told me it would be 4-7 business days. I spoke to my bank and my bank takes 2-4 business days and they let me know there is no refund being processed from this company. I called back 7/22 and I spoke to Zach he let me know it is 7- 10 days. I was trying to ask him questions and he repeatedly told me since I was a liar and no longer a customer he would not speak to me. He stated I called 7 times last week so he will not help me. I only spoke to someone twice last week, for the refund and a follow up. (So twice) Repeatedly he would hang up on me. He threatened me, telling me he would just keep me on hold and not answer anymore since I was no longer a customer. The rep told me "there are no non covered items except normal wear and tear" I've worked in shops and can guarantee that isn't true. I asked for a list of covered items and they said it would come in a packet once I signed up and paid for the first month. Was looking for a extended warranty program and called empire auto protect. Spoke to a gentleman late in the day and he gave me the rundown and wanted to know if I was ready to purchase a contract that came with a free year. I informed him that I would discuss it with my wife and would get back to him. He was finishing his day and said another sales representative would be able to help me. Called back and spoke to a lady that said I would get two years free after paying for two years. Should have been a red flag, but I agreed to a contract at $119.00 a month with the knowledge that I could cancel within the first thirty days with full refund. After more research I determined that this was indeed a shady business. Called to cancel before the thirty days and was transferred to a really foul person who was rude and telling me that I didn't have a good enough reason to cancel, so realizing that I was out $119.00 , I blocked the payment method so I wouldn't be taken to the cleaners. I found that not only the lie about the free years but was told that it had a thirty day waiting period before a claim but was ignorant of the one thousand miles that needed to be driven before filing a claim. The salesperson "Eric" sold us a bumper-to-bumper warranty, but it is anything but. When we called, we got "Eric" who claimed he was "Bradley" the supervisor, and then later he pretended to be "Richard" -- all the same guy. When we threatened to cancel, he became "Sean" and threatened to repossess our cars and call the police on us. They charged my credit card $1140. My lawyer is seeking recovery on our behalf. At time of purchase was told if cancelled within 1st 30 days full refund . I cancelled within my 30 day window even sent a cancelation letter dated as such. I didn't raise my voice until I was cut off multiple times and was told that I would be hung up on because I didn't want to provide my reason for cancellation. i even tried keeping my cool and asked for the legal dept and was denied and that's when I got upset because no way this is how they run their company. read more
