I've never been fond of traditional chow mein as it lacks flavor. However, their chow mein wasn't eaten due to the foul smell. The fried rice had no flavor either! The sweet and sour chicken and almond chicken are pretty standard for Chinese food, they were not the best, but they also weren't the worst. The pad Thai, medium spice, lacked flavor. We have lived in Olympia/ Lacey for over 30 years and have ordered Chinese food from here for as long as I can remember. The food up until now has always been excellent and considered the it the best Chinese food in western Washington. This evening, we ordered our usual selections and after sampling the food, it was the worst we have ever received from them. The food was poor quality and flavorless and seemed that maybe some of it had been sitting for some time. I was surprised to see just a 2.3 rating on Yelp as I can remember when it was getting much higher ratings. Needless to say, we will no longer order from them. I did call and complained about the product to the manager and did not any ask for any resolution. This used to be our favorite Chinese food place to go in Lacey. Not any more! We like to order Chinese food for NYE, it's our tradition. We had our son, daughter-in-law and grand kids with us this year and decided to order some to celebrate the New Year. We ordered 3 family meal dinners that cost us $75 total. It was by far the worst meal we've had in quite awhile! The fried rice was dry and the meat in it hard. The Chow Mein was completely tasteless. Solid Chinese food after a long day of work. Tasty. Don't have to do dishes at home. Staff is always warm and welcoming. 1980's-era decor, which I really like. Not tacky at all, just throwback. Reminds me of when I was a kid. I enjoy the small soups they bring to you before the main course. It's a good appetizer and a nice touch. When you are tired from Christmas shopping and being around people and the threat of Covid, Emperors Palace delivery is your best option. They have delicious Chinese food that is extremely Yummy and reliable and comforting. It is a difficult time for us all right now. Having dined at some of the finest Chinese restaurants in Vancouver B.C., San Francisco and Los Angeles, I reasonably had few expectations for this restaurant. The prices can appear high but the portions are huge. One main dish with perhaps a side of rice will likely satisfy a party of three or four adults. The chicken with cashew was the second best dish I sampled. The one 'dish' I can highly recommend is the won ton soup. The seasoned pork filled won tons in the rich chicken broth was delicious. We had ordered online for delivery and they almost immediately called to let us know that they were limited on drivers and they'd be happy to deliver to us two hours out or they could refund our online order and set us up for pickup. My wife and I went here last night for some take out. It took 2 minutes to order it, and 15 minutes to pick up. As soon as we called and let them know we were there, the food was out to the car in 60 seconds. It was seamless and quick service with a smile. The food was delicious. I got the Almond chicken and the teriyaki chicken with sauce on the side (I'm watching my carb intake) and even without the sauce the chicken was juicy and delicious. With the sauce it was even better. My wife got the pad thai and fried rice and said they were great, and she is harder to please then I am. All in all a wonderful experience and we will be back. read more

It has been several years since I tried Emperor's Palace (Lacey) and I hadn't hurried back based on my previous experience. But today a friend mentioned it favorably and so I thought that I'd give it another try. Recognizing that my previous experience -- with delivery -- didn't offer the best, fresh-from-the-kitchen experience, I decided to order take-out. (Note that we're in the first week of Covid-19 Phase 2 and I'm not yet ready to dine in.) On arrival, though, I noticed that the Governor's "Masks Everywhere" mandate was thoroughly ignored, as I didn't see a single masked dine-in or pick-up guest. It was clear that the establishment wasn't enforcing rules or caring for public health. My order came out, served by very friendly and helpful staff, and I left the pestorium of the reception area. And then I got home and tasted it: * Kung Pao Chicken, extra spicy: Not extra spicy. Not even spicy. And not a single Tien Tsin pepper, the chile that pretty much defines Kung Pao Chicken. I grant that this was a chicken dish (i.e. OK if you're not expecting anything in particular), but it didn't resemble Kung Pao. * Hot and Sour Soup: Before I complain about the texture, I'll mention that I've eaten this soup many times in many places. So when I mention that it was inedible, disgusting snot, I don't want to be accused of not expecting its normal, somewhat gelatinous consistency. No, this was different; I could take only one spoonful after realizing that someone had evacuated their snoot in my bowl. And it tasted awful. Will I go back? My friend wants to have lunch together after I'm comfortable with public dining, so I think so. I have yet to dine in, and I see some other menu options to try. I am a long time customer of Emperors Palace on the west side of Olympia. I have noticed a decline in the food and rising prices so have not used them in some time. I recently had a desire for some Chicken Chow Mein and tried some LaChoy from the grocery and found it to be as bad as I remember so I decided to try Emperors Palace again despite the prices. What I found was they are yet again smaller portions and the Chow Mein I could swear was identical to LaChoy. Might be where they get it now? Was going to order $80 worth of food which would cost $50 elsewhere but was willing to spend the money to not have to pickup. I couldn't distinguish one from the other so I had to call to ask if I'd received the correct order. I am extremely disappointed in customer service and my takeout order from Thursday night. This is one of my favorite restaurants, so when we are in town we like to come in to eat. We live about 45 minutes away. We typically dine in but Thursday we had appointments and decided to try take out. I received my order on time and it was all stapled with my receipt on the outside. I paid the $65 plus a tip and took my order and left. When I got home and opened the bag. There wasn't much in there. I was surprised because when we eat in the restaurant, we have more left overs than this! I noticed the rice was missing and I had lots of sauces but barely any chicken or bbq pork. I called the restaurant to explain the situation. After being placed on hold I was asked again for my name and phone number. I was asked if the manager could call me tomorrow. I was shocked as I had paid for a dinner and was sitting here missing part of it. So here we are 2 days later with no call from the manager. Super super pleased. Went tonight for dinner on a whim. Felt like Chinese and we haven't been here before. The koi fish pond at the entrance was so great. We were seated right away and our server was there within 3 minutes. Kierin was so attentive. Our drinks were full and our food was quick. Very friendly. The food was amazing. We got two entrees to share. And it was more then enough for us two. Not only are the serving sizes plenty but the price was so great too. For the two of us it was under $30. Tried this place twice. I am used to freshly cooked Chinese food. However, the prawns were over cooked and dry and it was obvious they were cooked earlier and just dished up from a warmer. Breading was terrible. The won tons in my soup were delicious but were served in a brown broth with a few green onion slices and no flavor. I added my own broth to flavor it up. The BBQ pork was so dry and tough I had to throw it away. This is my second such occurrence and I won't be trying it again. What a waste of my money. read more

Yelp really needs to make zero stars an option. Let's start with that. I ordered over the phone and the woman was really nice. I was really stoked at the idea of sweet and sour chicken and krab wontons delivered to my door in 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. Lewis for something and we decided to just pick up my order there on our way. I go in, and I see my meal all bagged up on the counter out of reach. The two women manning the phones did not even acknowledge my precense for five minutes. When they did I was ready to go! CMON! Chinese food! I found out they hadn't even charged me yet. I waited for the woman to get around to showing the woman helping me out how to print off a receipt. I got my food, sat in the car, tore into my krab rangoons like I hadn't eaten in years. They were delicious.. good ol' processed cream cheese with a couple pieces of imitation krab deep fried into a dish that probably has never stepped outside the United States in reality.. I planned on saving the rest of my food for when I got home, but my friend wanted a piece of chicken to tide him over until he hit a McDonald's. He took the piece I gave him and was disgusted. He said it was absolutely repulsive, even for janky greasy junk food. This is an Army boy that will eat ANYTHING.. well anything except for Emperor's Palace apparantly. I thought he was being a little dramatic so I took a few bites myself, because I figured the first disgusting bite was maybe burnt or something. I can tell you the oil they fried these in was old and used because it leaves that weird tint. They were so so greasy and had a weird taste we couldn't decipher. The Emperor's Palace on Martin way isn't a destination restaurant. Folks don't drive for miles to be wowed by the exotic. If you look around you see neighborhood regulars who have been eating there for years and some of them are getting pretty grey. What Emperor's Palace provides is highly Americanized Chinese style food. It is often a little on the bland side but, in its way, it is comfort food. So, if you are looking for authentic, gourmet Chinese food consider a trip to San Francisco. I find the Emperor's Palace very consistent. I eat there once or twice a month and no matter how many times I order a favorite dish, the taste and texture is the same and that is a good thing. Individual lunch and dinner specials offer good value with portions generous enough to require a to-go box. I don't understand folks saying it costs $40+ for two. When a friend and I do family style for two it is way less than that and there is plenty food for each of us to have at least two to-go boxes take home. I have never had any sort of issue with the service or staff. I've lived in the area for some time but have yet to order delivery. I'd rather go in and be waited on but I know folk who call them regularly with no complaint. Here's the skinny: The food was tasty and in good portion. The pricing was a little high, pretty standard though. I got an individual dinner which included shrimp lo-mien, almond chicken, pork fried rice and an egg roll. The rice and noodles were a little dry, but they did travel 5 miles from the restaurant to my house, I can cut some slack.
