Empanadas del Parque now called cafe is a place I have visited and loved for years...Today I was in the area visiting family and remember how awesome their empanadas are. Stopped by...order my empanadas and waited like the usual 15 min. There was three girls in the counter taking order they seemed nice but a little loud for a business. Once my order come out I noticed the girl chatting not paying attention that my order was just sitting there... After 2 min she picked it up didn't call any names I figured it was mine and asked how much? I noticed she charge me for extra hot sauce that I didn't request and the order came out to 19.15 I gave her a 20 with with a quarter so I can get a dollar back. Now what this girl did is something I have never ever seen anywhere in the United States nor international..She took my change and threw it in her tip jar without saying a word to me???? I was like dude I want my change back... why would you tip yourself with my money? And for what?? For taking an order you didn't even make it!!! She went like sorry....Be aware of these cashier scammers that are triple in their salary with our money.. I wonder if McDonald's or any fast food restaurant cashiers would just tip them selves with our change there would be a whole Lot more of world star fight videos on the internet read more

This Cafe is great. I have never been disappointed with the quality of the empanadas. I love the variety and enjoy trying different ones all of the time. I got chicharon, ground beef and shredded beef empanadas. I really don't understand how this place gets 5 stars. All the meat had NO flavors and you need the green sauce ( I would not even call it a hot sauce because it ain't hot at all) to give it some flavor. This place is a 30 minute walk from my house and I often take it. That's a total of an hour to get empanadas. I think that says enough, but in case it doesn't, Empanadas Cafe has the best selection and quality of empanadas I've ever had. There are people in the world who have taken me to other spots in the area that claim they are "better", but I am never satisfied unless it's from Empanadas Cafe. Went there over the summer with two friends and a baby. The place is tiny so having a stroller we had to eat outside. The counterperson unlocked the gate to the outdoor seating area and nothing more. Oh wait, I think she might have pointed. Not only did we have to arrange the table and chairs ourselves, we had to dry the previous nights rain with little more than baby wipes. When our food was ready, the counter person mumbled something which I didn't quite catch. We took our food outside to the wet table and chairs and enjoyed our empanadas. As we were leaving, this counterperson took the time to come outside to insist that we return the platters. Hmmmm....it took her more energy to follow us out to the curb and shout at us than it would have to turn to the right and pick up the platter herself. Every time I go to the Lemon Ice Kind of Carona, or the farmer's market at the Hall of Science, I think I want to go there. Today we stopped. Took a while to get the food, but I guess fresh can't be rushed, right? I had the broccoli and cheese, plantain and mozzarella cheese, and I passed on the meat ones. I liked them both very much. The hot sauce is unique and interesting, I liked it. Cori V said: The hot sauce wasn't very hot and they didn't give you enough. The organic one was good, the crust was good, filling was chorizo and potato. She wasn't crazy about the plantain and mozzarella. She wasn't impressed with the pork one. The broccoli and cheese was probably the best she's ever had. Cori says the women who work there are really sweet. They have a lot of variety. Inside they have 2 tables and a bar, so it's cozy, 10 total seats. It was nice and cold in there on a hot day. The kitchen is huge. You can buy them premade, and cook them, and put them in your freezer. You can also buy them cooked and put them in your microwave. So I have this crazy vegetarian struggle. On the one hand, I feel there are three reasons to not eat meat. One is that animals are subjects with feelings and it sucks to be raised for food for the dominant species (ethical & spiritual). There are many books that chart the parallels between sexual abuse and meat eating, slavery and meat eating. Things I'm against. Meat takes up more resources, I don't want to burn down the rainforest for cheap burgers (environmental). I am over weight, and cutting out food options doesn't make me lose weight, but in the end, I think vegetarian is healthier than carnivore (nutritional). On the other hand, I don't really feel like going to a new restaurant and restricting myself. I think the best argument for meat eating is, "I want to and I can." After that, there's really nothing to say. But I'm not in control of myself. Today I won the vegetarian struggle (in part because the vegetarian ones were good). read more

Beef - very typical , didn't taste much different from your regular Jamaican beef patty, however this was much smaller . Crust was crispy tho, expectedly, since it was just fried. Ham cheese pineapple - very interesting , as if a Hawaiian pizza in a empanada form... I love my hawaiian pizzas , and this left behind the same impression ; portable ham chrese pizza ! Chicken- better than expected. Filled with peppers and onions and juicy chunks of chicken . Much more gratifying than the beef. I cannot speak more highly of this place. As an empanada enthusiast whose grandma makes some of the best "empanadas del viento" outside of Quito, I have tasted my fair share of empanadas. These STILL stack up well. The variety is staggering: three different types of empanada casings - corn, white flour, wheat flour - and all the vegetable, meat, and cheese combos you can imagine. All the ones I tried out were exceptional, but my favorite was the sweet plantain and queso in a white flour empanada. I have never had anything like it anywhere, period. I ordered a variety of empanadas to go and liked most of them. I ordered them on the whole wheat crust because the corn crust tends to be dry in my experience. The best one was the Hawaiian with ham and pineapple. The beef and chicken ones were very dry and flavorless. Also I wish they had more meat and cheese options. Yummmmmyyy! My fiancé and I stopped in today and got quite a few of them. We both favorited the pesto-mozzarella-tomato. I also enjoyed the mixed veggie and the spinach and ricotta! We ordered 2 fish as well but was given one extra of a chicken we ordered and a single shrimp instead of the fish for some reason, even though they were listed on out receipt. Didn't care at all for the shrimp. But mistake was totally made up by the yummy goodness of the overall empanada experience!
