I have worked with other staffing agencies in the past. My experience with Emerald was quite different. I wasn't at all expecting to feel so comfortable or the surroundings to be so aesthetically pleasing. Normally it's bare walls a few chairs, a fake ficus tree and an endless views of cubicle land with people less than excited to be there. Emerald is warm, inviting and friendly. Initially I interviewed for a position that was posted by Emerald. After talking for only a few minutes with Mary and explaining what I was looking for she realized the position wasn't a good fit for me. She did however have a completely different company in mind and asked me if I would be open to another opportunity. I left with an interview scheduled the next day. Mary was clear, concise, friendly and most importantly made me feel understood in what I was looking for. I have been out of the work force for a while, due to raising a family. I had a very open and honest conversation with her in what my goal was and why. She listened, gave me a confidence boost and helped me feel like I could continue to be myself and pursue the type of job I wanted. The next day I interviewed with the company and was successful in winning the position within 15 minutes of walking out of the interview. I was overjoyed and felt as though it was a win win for all involved. When I first moved out here to Portland I was excited that I got a call back from this place. But if I went their route I probably would have been broke and homeless while waiting for the phone to ring. I was actively looking for a job and I found more luck on my own. I think Nick meant well, but even times when I would call my messages would go unanswered. I didn't feel like I matter and getting a job is about people's livelihood. Anytime there was a possible job situation, I'd never get a follow up return call or the timing was off. So I felt disappointed time and time again with my experience with Emerald Staffing. It was my first time using a staffing agency and I'm glad I did it. I interviewed with Mary and told her all the working conditions I was looking for in employment. I had a lot! My husband worked nights and we wanted to make it work so that we didn't need childcare. At first I thought I wouldn't hear back from them because at that moment Mary didn't have anything that would work with my situation. She called me the next day! If you're in the medical field, they have some really good contracts. +The people who work here are all SO nice! I don't think a lot of the negative reviews on here are fair. It seems to me that a lot of people don't really understand staffing agencies. It isn't a staffing agency's job to find you a job. It is their job to fill open positions for their clients. I drove all the way to Lake Oswego from Vancouver for this interview only for them to tell my I'm not even qualified for the position I applied for... Its like they didnt even read my resume I had sent them when I applied for the job... They also said they would help me find a job that better met my qualifications. Havent heard back still. I contacted Emerald when I first moved to the state and had a good experience with the interview, but never heard from them again. I had to reach out to them a couple of times afterward and received the same room temperature response that they would "let me know as soon as something matches my profile." They also suggested I "search Indeed for their name" to find jobs they are posting too. Meanwhile, my boyfriend used another staffing company in the area and has successfully found many temp jobs. I gave up contacting this company because I was so disappointed with their lack of enthusiasm and care for the people they brought in. It is a staffing agency's duty to work hard for the worker; this company did not do that for me. read more

This agency contacted me for a position and I was very excited to work with a local business. I arrived 5 minutes early for my initial screening and did not have to wait more than 15 minutes. The interviewer was nice and addressed my concerns about age discrimination as well as the stigma now attached to being unemployed. I left feeling hopeful. Sadly, my positive first impression was slowly eroded to not being able to recommend this company to anyone. The biggest annoyance was finding a position in which I was interested, contacting my initial interviewer as well as the person who was posting the position and receiving absolutely NO response from anyone. I tried to make contact via telephone AND email, leaving voice mails and messages with the receptionist. I made several attempts for several posted positions - all for naught. Additionally, I do not believe they are on top of keeping their open job postings current. This company is very unprofessional and seems very poorly run and managed. I applied for a benefits manager position via zip recruiter and upon applying I received the message "you are a strong candidate." zip recruiter sent me notifications that emerald staffing had viewed my application three times. I then received a call along with an email and voicemail asking if I was interested in an interview. I called back and said I was really interested in the position and asked for more information in which they told me that that exact position was temporary it would be about three months but that their wasn't a particular start date. Well I went in today for an interview only to be told "you don't have the necessary skills or experience for that job , but we can go through your resume' further and look for other work ..." Excuse me but what the actual f*** ?!?! so when I called they couldn't have told me right upfront that they didn't think I fit what that position was looking for ???? no ! they had to waste my time- I drove all the way to lake Oswego, (i live outside of Oregon city) in just to get me in so they could attempt to make some commission off me -signing me up for jobs . I got up and walked out ! This was my second time trying to use Emerald for employment opportunities. Same as the first time, after they have you come into their very loud office where none of their "recruiters" even have cubicles its just one large area in the open and you can hear everyone's business. There is no follow up or follow through. Its always you checking in with a recruiter and waiting days for a reply. They get you excited about potential openings then no follow through. I went to their website and followed the instruction of emailing my resume. I then was going to go and fill out the application online, but thought against it as they are not anyone that I've heard of; further, it says on their site the following: If you are not comfortable registering online, you are certainly welcome to complete the application process in our office. Please contact Brooke to schedule an appointment. 503.941.4788. I called and explained that I was not comfortable with filling out my app online and would like to make an appointment. The young lady tells me that it is required to fill out the application. I asked if I had to do it online? She says "no". I say "this is why I'm calling; to make an appointment." She then says, its required to fill out an application. It was a bad scenario of "who's on first"; I just hung up on her. I guess she thought that I didn't want to fill out an application period. I had almost the exact same experience as others who posted reviews. I submitted a qualified resume for a specific job on their website. They called me the same day and asked me to come in and interview. Everyone was very nice and friendly. I interviewed for the position and the person I interviewed with, Cory, said I was a great fit and she would contact the employer to set up a direct interview. That next week I never heard from anyone, so I contacted them by phone and by email a few times. I never got a response or call back. It seemed very odd, since I gave them all my personal information and she had told me she was 100% going to contact me. I do not recommend this place. Such a waste of time and a drive! read more

I applied for a specific job on a job board posting and was contacted for an interview and meeting with a recruiter. I arrived early at the location for my appointment, and waited 15 minutes past my appointment time with no explanation given for the delay. I met with a woman named Miranda, who made poor eye contact and provided a weak handshake; not the best first impression. She spent the majority of our interaction staring at my application/resume and writing on it - often writing items that were already bullet pointed as skills/descriptions of my jobs (creating duplicate information). When I inquired specifically about the job I applied for, she stated "oh. that company hasn't really been getting back to me..." and then said "oh but I see you have some [specific type of] experience - I have a job doing that!". I explained I had very limited experience in that specific task, and that I was aware the industry standards had changed drastically since I was last well versed in it, so I would not be the appropriate fit. My response fell on deaf ears. She informed me that changing industries was a poor decision, that I would "expect to be taking a massive paycut", and that she "would continue to send [me] jobs in [that industry] and [I] could continue to say no". She then proceeded to insult my previous jobs, at one point telling me "if I had that job, I'd probably want to punch people" and then went on a tangent about how her current job is so much better than the job she had before it. I walked out feeling like I had not only wasted my time, but also feeling insecure about my choice to want to change industries. I met with a different recruiter with a different company the next day, who was a total 180 from this horrific experience. In contrast, the other company provided guided resume and cover letter editing & suggestions, confirmed my skillset was appropriate for multiple industries, was polite and respectful of my time, and I walked out of my experience with the new company feeling positive instead of beaten down. I have NEVER taken the time to write a review, but my experience was so poor, I felt urged to do so; my hope is no one else will experience this awful company and recruitment process. read more

So I looked online even though I told them what I was looking for, went I thought it was there job to tell you what they have. So I called back and I told them I was interested in a position, only to hear that there website hasn't been updated for a while now. And that job was posted in the fall. He said if i was interested in those type of positions though, I should look on indeed. What the heck??? I came to you guys for help, I've already applied for jobs on indeed. She set me up with an interview for a job that she felt I was a great fit for and I ended up loving them and they loved me and was hired the next day after my interview with the employer. I just moved back home to the area from Southern California.I contacted Emerald because I saw a job posted I was interested in. I set an appointment with Brittney Cox and went in to interview the next day. After meeting with her she had a few opportunities in mind for me. She sent me the standard tests and set up an interview with one of the companies for the very next day. I was offered the job the same day! Can't say enough wonderful things about this agency and the great staff! From the very first step they were extremely helpful, very open and honest about what jobs they might have and what they would do to advocate for me. Nick always called me with a new opportunity (about once a week until I was hired), and was very open about the position and what might be expected from it as a workplace (the kind of work, people, and pay expected). In the end, they placed me with a job I wouldn't usually have picked for myself but I'm so incredibly happy with the job and everything it comes with! My new coworkers are some of the most outstanding people I have ever worked with, and the job challenges me and is rewarding day in and out. My initial contact with Emerald Staffing was great I thought to myself this agency really stands out compared to the other agencies that I had signed up with. I felt very comfortable speaking the recruiter we talked about my skills and what I was looking for. I was contacted about few days later regarding a possible job I felt it was a good fit. I went to interview which lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes I interviewed with the owner and two individuals from the sales department. Once the interview was over I called the recruiter on how the interview went I told her I thought it went well she informed me that she is just waiting to hear back from the client. I few days went by I didn't hear back from the Emerald Staffing, so I reached out to recruiter about the job I left a voicemail with the individual I had been working with. She never called me back from that voice mail. I left three voicemails after the first one still no return called. Low key, casual office setting with different levels of professionalism from various employees - not something I mind but I remember employees wearing flip flops and other articles of clothing that I just thought didn't have the right vibe for an office setting. Like any temp agency I've ever worked with, you have to keep up with them and call/email them often to keep yourself in their sights. They often get in touch at the end of the day and want you ready for an interview in the morning. I haven't actually ever gotten a job through them, but they were super patient with me when I totally screwed up a prospective interview by going to the wrong location, which I appreciate. read more

I arrived about 30 minutes early to interview for a specific job posting, only to be seen for 10-15 minutes. The representative was very confrontational about my current employer, insinuating things that were never stated/mentioned by me on my online application or to my current employer. Furthermore, the representative would not submit my resume for the position I drove all the way across town to interview for; this could have been passed on via the phone or email. They instead attempted to discuss personal/private details with me that did not relate in any way to said position. Great job wasting my time and gas Emerald Staffing. The worst recruiting place I have ever been interviewed at. The lady that interviewed me had no idea what she was talking about she wouldn't even go through an interview process all she wanted to do was take minor things off my resume, write on it and tell me what I need to change on my resume had nothing to do with the job that they had me drive over an hour to get interviewed for! She then told me that I was not qualified for the position that they had me drive over there to interview for I asked her well what does it entail she then proceeded to tell me the exact definition of a Marketing Manager I've been pointed out to her that I have been doing those exact things you just spoke of 4/4 years and then she still said that is something different I then asked how is that something different? I've been asked you just told me what the job entails and I just showed you that I have done that through my other marketing jobs and you can even contact them she would then not continue and says you need to work on your resume and that you would be more fit for a sales position when I have been a manager for multiple different companies including being a outside marketing manager for another. These recruiting places are hiring uneducated people to try to fill jobs for company's that they nothing about. Companies that actually want reliable with experience in that field should not use emerald staffing as a recruiting agency because they don't even go over an interview process how can you find the right fit for a company if the interviewer is not even interviewing. read more

Was led to believe there was a sales job that was not the same after I arrived for interview. Sat with 2 people and they told me that they would get busy finding me a job. I asked if I should follow up with them in a week or so or would they get in touch with me. They said they were excited to work with me and would follow up. I heard NOTHING back from them. I answered a new add on Craigslist immediately after it had been posted. The following morning I was called by a staff member to come in for an interview for that position. I had to fill out and online application in advance to the appointment even though the had received my resume when I applied for the position. When I arrived they could not find my application or resume and I had to fill out additional information and give them another resume. I was a little offended that the questions on the form were birthdate, SS#, drivers license Number, etc. These are things that are normally not given until after a person is hired. I know, I have done alot of hiring of employees over the years. When I finally talked to someone it was not the person that had called me for the interview. The first question was "Why are you coming in today?" I stated that I had been called for an interview for a specific job. The reply was, "Im not sure that was a real job or just a sample of the jobs we can offer." It was a total waste of my time and gas to drive there. They offered me nothing. I'm sure that after they noticed that I was 60 years old and had a work history that exceeded the birth of everyone in the office I had no value for them. I am a professional and have been for over 40 years and no one is going to convience me that age discrimination does not exist. Extremely disorganized agency. No follow up and/or follow through . I was called in for an interview. My recruiter was late for the appointment 30 + minutes. He didn't really know what he was doing as he was repeating his questions and I had to repeat myself on multiple occasions. He lacked active required listening skills completely - It was the most awkward experience for me, in a similar setting.. After we completed the interview, I was advised to sent references , which I did immediately. Never heard back ; therefore, I called Nick and he was like, " Oh yeah - let me check , oh yeah- I got them (the references info that is) and will be calling them today.. He never did and /or contacted me to advise accordingly. In any case , wasting client's time and not following up is very disappointing and extremely unprofessional. In all honesty, I felt that he just didn't really know how to do his job .Even during the interview, I was the one sorta guiding and directing the conversation .., which is rather unusual for a recruiter.
