Bergamot & Basil Pot de Crème
Margaret A.

They sure know how to make a girl feel special here! A variety of unique appetizers kept arriving at our table. One after another, just an amazing array of tastes for the palate. My favorite main course is hands down the swordfish. The way they cook and season is just divine. More side dishes kept arriving to pair with the fish. Everything was absolutely wonderful. Desert was no different; a variety of sweets. My favorite of course was the decadent chocolate with a tiny happy birthday greeting in chocolate of course! The ambience is classy with a spectacular view including the golf course. Service was impeccable as always.

Ember & Rye is the signature steakhouse at the Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad helmed by Chef Richard Blais. The dining rooms and bar overlooked the 18th green which provided a lovely view of the course. There was a dedicated free parking lot on the property for those who wanted to just dine at the restaurant like us. The central bar was directly ahead when you walked in the entranceway with a hostess station to the left of that. My friend and I came recently for a weekday lunch and chose to sit in one the dining rooms as opposed to outside on the patio. A lunch menu and beverages menu were handed to us upon seating. A prix fixe section was on the bottom center of the page. It consisted of a starter, entree, and dessert for $39. It looked good on paper, however I was very disappointed in the choices (two salads, two entrees, three desserts). Notice that a starter wasn't even listed as an option, only salads. We each decided on a different sandwich from the five available selections. Mine was the Ember Seared Spicy Tuna Sandwich that consisted of furikake, spicy aioli, cucumber, pickled onion, avocado, radish sprouts, and butter lettuce on a brioche bun. A market lettuce or triple cooked fries with truffle pepper ketchup (my pick) were offered as a side with the sandwich. I requested the spicy aioli to be provided in a separate cup for dipping which I am glad I did. The sauce would have ruined the seared tuna fillet with too much spiciness. For fries that were triple cooked, they were not hot and crispy as expected. I suspect they may have been sitting around at room temperature for a while. Based on the price and quality of my lunch, it was a mediocre experience for a flagship restaurant of an upscale golf course.

Pastrami Ruben and fries

3.5 stars Came on a weekday for lunch. I had originally made a reservation to be seated outside to take advantage of the view of the golf course but it was really hot so I opted to be seated inside which was more comfortable. My seat still looked out and had had a great view so same view just more comfortable. I got the beet and peach salad. It didn't really have a dressing but instead came on a bed of caramelized yogurt which acted as the flavor vehicle. It was also topped with frisse, sesame, za'atar, granola and mint. The peach was a nice surprise as it added a nice sweetness, freshness, and texture, I liked when I got a bite of mint, it brightened up the dish. Very unique and different. I also got the house made pastrami Ruben. It came with gruyere cheese, sauerkraut, kimchee, thousand island dressing on rye. The rye was nicely grilled which made it crispy. The pastrami was also grilled which brought out a more salty profile. The kimchee stood out and was a great pairing with the pastrami, it added some spiciness and that fermented funk that you get with sauerkraut. Over all a great sandwich I just wish there was more pastrami. I had the choice of salad or fries but since I got the beet and peach salad I opted for the fries. The fries were triple cooked and came with a truffle ketchup. The fries were cold and I didn't care for the truffle ketchup, I'd ask for aioli next time. Ember & Rye is located on the 18th hole of the Aviara golf course, There's free parking out front but seems like it could fill up during more busy times, like nights or weekends. You can see the touches of creativity from Richard Blais in the dishes. I did see a 3 course prefix menu for $40 which woulda been cheaper than my 2 choices but I wanted to try the pastrami. That's probably the way to go.

Food and service were great for our business dinner. The table loved the appetizers, seafood towers, steaks, drinks, and wine. For our group of 8 we appreciated the prompt and attentive staff, quality of food, atmosphere of the restaurant and attention to detail. It was also great to see Richard Blais there and working the room and showing enjoyment is his restaurant with a big smile. Well worth the visit if you are in the Carlsbad area for dinner.

Went to lunch at Ember & Rye with some girlfriends, and we had a great experience. The restaurant is aesthetically beautiful and surrounded by a gorgeous golf course. We sat outside, which offered the perfect balance of sunshine and shade. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and provided outstanding service from start to finish. The steaks were cooked perfectly and were absolutely delicious. One thing to note: if you order the Steak Frites for lunch, it may not be what you expect. Instead of traditional French fries, the "frites" are crispy sweet potato curls served on top of the steak. The steak itself was fantastic, but just an FYI. Overall, great food, excellent service, and a beautiful setting. I'd definitely return!

Filet Mignon

The food was really good. By far one of the best filet mignons I've had, this one was memorable. Every piece was on point. The potatoes were lowkey the star of the show, a must order if you're here. No idea how they make it but it's gas. They also served garlic croissants and sourdough bread with butter which was nice. The views are solid, reminded me of back bay in Newport Beach but better. The staff were very friendly. Definitely worth checking out.

Late post - review from my 2025 holiday trip- We enjoyed the bar, friendly service, elegant view, and delicious handcrafted cocktails. I enjoyed their creation of the Manhattan very much. When we moved to the dining room for dinner, the experience dropped to a-meh First, we got the ONLY table in the room without any view, it was next to the wall and a pillar. I guess it is good for first date, as you can only look at each other ;) The server recommended the chef's special cut- Manhattan cut-, and we took his suggestion. It was a bad decision; the cut had a thick, tender middle, and I also choked on it. It was over-seasoned too, quite salty. When we shared the feedback with the server, he said he would let the chef know, but did not offer any other practical options. The famous buttery croissant was delicious, the dessert was standard. Nothing wow in the dining room. I would recommend staying at the bar for dinner!

Impressed by another Richard Blais restaurant! Ember and Rye is on the property for Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad but has its own separate entrance which was easy to find. There is a large complimentary parking lot right in front of the restaurant. The ambiance inside was beautiful, modern, and clean. Reservations were very easy online. If the weather permits, I highly recommend sitting outside in their wrap around patio to enjoy the lagoon and gold course views. The food was delicious. We opted for the lunch pri fixe menu which included one salad, entree, and dessert. My daughter enjoyed her burger and fries. The portions were filling. The food was fresh and tasty. We ate it all! Service was overall great. All our servers were friendly and professional. We felt welcomed by the hostess upon arrival. Service was a bit lacking towards the end and we had to flag someone down for our dessert and check. All in all, we would definitely return and hopefully see Chef Blais!

Mushrooms, NY Steak and Veg Bucatini pasta (all delicious!)
Nicole R.

I was honestly surprised by how much we loved Ember & Rye. We came here to celebrate two birthdays and didn't have particularly high expectations, but everything we ordered was delicious. The sherry-glazed mushrooms were easily my favorite dish, alongside the perfect New York steak. Even dessert was incredible and ended the meal on a high note. The ambiance was beautiful, and our server, Alex, was super friendly and gave attentive service throughout the night. Such a great experience from start to finish, so we'll definitely be back!

Wagyu Burger

I admittedly didn't know this was Richard Blaise's concept when my boss said we were going there. It's a lovely restaurant, very coastal chic vibe. The staff was immensely kind though they did sweep my drink away before I had half finished it. The food was good, we had several appetizers including the wagyu skewers, jalapeño croquettes, and bahn mi meatballs. The meatballs were my favorite second only to the incredible garlic croissants. Now those were the highlight. I ordered the Wagyu burger and found they cooked it under. I ordered a medium and it was medium rare. The ketchup had truffle in it which I could've done without, though I'm glad it wasn't on the fries which were exceptionally good. The burger also was packed with flavor and it hit on every level. It was a great dining experience and enjoyable evening

My first time attending Restaurant Week and this was a great choice. It is located near a golf course, so parking was a bit of a challenge, but they had some spots across the street that weren't too far of a walk. The restaurant status on the patio and we had a great view and the weather was perfect. They had a menu that I thought was just for Restaurant Week, but I was told that is actually one they keep your round. It was a really great deal as it included three courses for $39. There were several of us so we got a few dishes to try. The calamari was good and lightly breaded, not too heavy or over fried. I got the bucatini pasta which I thought tasted very fresh and flavorful. Also tried the salmon which was delicious and had lots of flavor to it as well, it was cooked just right. For dessert I decided to get the s'mores cake, and I was happy I did. It had a toasted meringue on top, and a chocolate sauce. Everyone agreed that it was amazing. I also tried the lemon curd yuzu pot, which I really enjoyed because I love lemon. It was light and not too thick or overly sweet, but it had that nice tangy flavor from the lemon curd. I would definitely go back to this restaurant, even though it's a little bit out of the way for me. The service was excellent, and I appreciate the recommendations and explanations of the menu. This is a great spot to have a nice lunch with friends, or even as a couple.

First off, I want to start by saying the service was AMAZING!! Johnny & Jenna were our servers and they were so friendly, attentive, and professional. The food was also really good, my favorite was the banh mi meatballs (not pictured) and my husband's favorite was the rigatoni bolognese. When my husband reserved it through Open Table, he put that it was our anniversary. The staff surprised us with an anniversary dessert! Many staff members told us happy anniversary which was really sweet. Even the manager came out to tell us. Overall the food was good, but I think the service was the best part!

This steakhouse is located in the Aviara golf course's clubhouse. It has ample indoor dining space and an outdoor balcony with views of the 18th hole green. This is a high-end steakhouse by the same chef as Juniper and Ivy and other notable restaurants. Stand out appetizers were the squash blossom lettuce wraps and tuna tostada. Hard to go wrong with the tuna, and this was a unique take on lettuce wraps that I've never seen before. For entrées, between the bone in swordfish steak, ribeye steak and lamb chops, the swordfish was the best. The swordfish bone-in steak is large and comes blackened with good flavors. The ribeye and lamb chops were high-quality cuts of meat, but lacked a crust that I might expect at a high-end steakhouse. For sides the brussels sprouts were very flavorful and crispy. The carrots are heavily seasoned and no ordinary carrot. For dessert, the lemon uzu has a strong lemon flavor that bursts in your mouth, yum! Service was excellent and caring. A great place to splurge after golf or for a special occasion.

Ask the Community - Ember & Rye

What is the parking situation if we're not staying at the Hyatt?

I was not staying at the hotel either when I visited for breakfast. They have a large parking lot to do free self parking, which is what we chose to do, or you can also do valet right at the front door. Parking here is really easy.

Is there a happy hour?

They have a "between the clubs" menu (2-5:30pm) with some specials in the bar area - I like the burger, fries and a beer for a discounted price

Is there a dress code?

There is no dress code. Semi - casual.

Do they have happy hour?

Dear Pamela, Ember and Rye does not have a dedicated happy hour. However, we hope to welcome you for specialty cocktails and our delicious snack bar bites!

Is it appropriate to bring children? Is there a kids' menu?

Yes, we brought our 5y/o and 6y/o and my SIL brought her 1y/o. They had kids menus, and a high chair for my nephew. It is a high end restaurant, but I never felt like we were out of place having our kids with us, and all the staff was helpful and…

What is their corkage fee?

I think it was around 30 dollars

This place sells their "normal" lobster roll for $30 each. I know prices on everything have gone through the roof (thanks, Iran War) but that is a lot of money. I have no complaints whatsoever about the roll. For the "normal" roll (that's what they call it), there was plenty of lobster and it was great. The toasted buttered bread is especially delicious. But for the price....$30 is basically the cost of a meal at a sit-down restaurant. So you always have to balance quality, quantity, and price. Incidentally, on the menu, there is no reference to "Maine" versus "Connecticut" style rolls. (My understanding is that the lobster in a Maine roll is cold and is dressed with mayo while the Connecticut lobster is served warm and is more buttery.) The video screen above the counter to this place mentions you can order it either way. The menu should also say this but whatever, this is just an FYI. If you don't specify a style, you will get the more popular Maine roll. I saw a number of people getting lobster rolls so apparently others are willing to spring the big bucks for this dish. It is delicious but you decide if it is worth it for you.

The Spanish rice also tasted like it had been sitting out for a while and was a little dry.
