The only downside I would say was that the potato puree had too much sour cream, which overpowered the overall flavor. The ambiance was off and although the kitchen and bar did well, the service was mediocre and the attention to detail was non-existent. It's a shame that the price point doesn't match the quality of service and the food was pretty salty overall. The oysters Rockefeller sit on a bed of very smelly seaweed, which was off putting. The oysters themselves were fine. Not great. I ordered the steak frites medium rare. My steak was VERY rare (cool in the middle). It also claimed to be 14 ounces but was pretty small. Of course I didn't weigh it, and I am aware that it's only 14 oz before cooking, but nonetheless it looked very small. If I had to guess I'd say 8-10 ounces. I will say it tasted pretty good, but I expect a lot better for 50 dollar steak frites. We got the peanut butter bar and peaches and cream for dessert. Both tasted great. Went to ember & oak on a Friday for date night and we had a good experience. We went around 8:45pm and there was no wait. They do take reservations though. They have a full bar but are known for their whiskey and wine. I had them make me a spicy marg and it was really good. The food was excellent. My only complaint was our steak was slightly over cooked. They offered to make another but we didn't want to wait since we were hungry. Everything was very flavorful! Their food is made to share but there are also individual plates. The service was also good & our server was very attentive. There's also an outdoor area after 9PM that has their own food menu (more like bar food), a DJ, full bar, dance floor, & fire pits. We didn't stay long, but it was a good time. Then we got the 30 oz KC strip steak board to share. The portion was so large for the sides and they were all phenomenal especially the oxtail bone marrow side. This is such a beautiful location -- perfect for a nice evening out in Downtown Melbourne. We love that it accepts reservations, as a lot of restaurants in the area do not and there's nothing I hate more than trying to deal with walk-up seating and long waits. It's especially helpful when you're seeing a show at the Henegar, since it's easier to plan for enough time to eat before your show. Don't miss the steak boards: essentially a charcuterie board of steak and incredible steakhouse sides like creamed spinach and Caesar salad. There's a great wine list, too, although as a non-drinker, I'd love to see more options for zero proof cocktails. (Virgin mojito was great, though!) read more

Had the most delightful experience at this restaurant tonight. I am a big foodie and had to go into Melbourne for work from Orlando. Of course, I scoured YELP to find a good restaurant. I came across this one and set a reservation for me and my coworker. Restaurant is very beautiful and high and without being stuffy. We had a really wonderful waiter named Nick, who made sure we were well taken care of. He was good conversation and great service. I really appreciate his attention to detail apart from the wonderful service, our food was just delicious. I had the wedge salad, which was beyond the best one I've ever had. It had pork belly and onion rings on it, which set it off apart from that the lettuce was crisp and the blue cheese on it was phenomenal. I decided to get the steak frites. The steak was tender and covered in a delicious and flavorful chimichurri sauce, but those beef fat fries were out of this world. My coworker got the salmon with risotto. I had a taste. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the risotto was a lemony, deliciousness. I also had two old fashions with extra cherries with done correctly. The vibe in the restaurant was really great and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. This is the way you keep customers coming back thank you for an epic evening. read more

On the positive side, good ambiance; went on a day when the restaurant wasn't crowded and so it was quiet and a large group of us (7 people) could hear one another comfortably. The wait staff were close by and attentive. One person ordered the skirt steak and really liked it; another liked the burger. On the negative side, two people in our party ordered steaks: one was a filet, the other was a New York strip. Both steaks were tough, had gristle, and literally tasteless. We informed the waiter who brought over the manager. She agreed to replace the filet but the results were the same. Neither person ended up eating their steaks; we brought it home for the dog. The manager comped one filet and one glass of wine and charged us for the strip steak and the second filet. When we complained, they comped the second filet but not the strip steak. On the neutral side, two people had the pork and one had the fish; those people said their meals were okay but wouldn't order it again. Back to the negative side, the meal was close to $400--even with the comped items (admittedly, 2 cocktails and 4 glasses of wine contributed, but still...). Will not return to this restaurant. The quality and expense just don't even out. read more

**This review is for the Ember and Oak tasting room only. We did not order any food. The tasting room is a small room behind the outdoor bar where you can load money onto a card and serve yourself a variety of wine, whiskey, or tequila. The wine is the best value for your money. The whiskey and tequila are over priced for what you get. Some of the whiskey and tequila are as much as $20 for a half ounce pour. I feel like the point of a tasting room is to allow patrons to try various types of products for a reasonable price. I do not consider the prices here reasonable. It's a shame because it is a concept fitting for the downtown area, but I don't see how they will be able to sustain a lot of local repeat customers unless the price tags become more affordable. With that being said, I can't say I would return to the tasting room, with the current price structure, but I do intend to go back to try the restaurant out. This place got rave reviews from my friends so I was excited to check it out. We had a large group and ordered lots of champagne and different dishes and desserts. Service was good and the food was excellent. We ordered Dry Aged Prime Porterhouse, Creamed Spinach, Lobster Mac, Wedge Salad, Wild Mushroom Bruschetta, fries, Wood Oven Roasted Baby Cauliflower, Caesar Salad and almost all of the desserts offered on the menu. The steak was my favorite entree and the strawberries and cream creme brûlée was my favorite dessert (we even ordered a second brûlée because it was so good!) The champagne was good and there was even live music playing for the majority of our time there. We are outside under a tent and spent several hours at the restaurant. I was impressed with the food and will definitely be back here and recommend this place to anyone visiting the area and looking for a good restaurant. read more

However we did order an Oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer which was okay, a little too heavy on the mayonnaise it seemed. We added Brussels to the board which I personally didn't prefer, but the others at the table loved it so one of those each-to-their-own dishes. Our waitress, Kate, was absolutely perfect, very attentive and full of knowledge of the menu along with being very polite. There was also a very nice wine expert who recommended a perfect French red wine. The place is very nice, dark, modern and calming. The red marble table tops are a beautiful piece to dine off off. Wow wow and wow! Excellent experience from start to finish! Kate was the most amazing server and we enjoyed every second of our dining experience. We started off with the Caesar salad and it was absolutely delicious along with the amazing bread.!! Nice ambience and the outdoor area is a great alfresco dining experience. Staff is relatively friendly (enough) and given there's a labor shortage I will not dwell on the attentiveness. Here's what I will say: I ordered a decent bottle of wine (Orin Swift) and was told it wasn't available and the waiter brought a substitute bottle which I said no thanks. Suddenly the bottle I wanted "magically" became available. This is one of the oldest tricks in the restaurant industry - let's push an inferior bottle for the same price for the uninformed. As for the steak, it wasn't bad - it's the best $50 steak $100 can buy. In comparison to Texas Roadhouse it's head and shoulders above, but if you've been to the likes of Peter Lugers, Maestros or Wolfgang's, you will be disappointed. Their claim of 28 days aging is non existent in flavor. It's a hard pass for me. read more

I've been meaning to come here for months and it really lives up to its rep. It has a beautiful outdoor service / seating and indoor. They have different menus for both. This place is a bit pricier but it's worth the quality. I suggest getting a Caesar salad or soup to share amongst the table, it is very fresh. The steak lacked flavor for sure and more than half of it was pure fat and way undercooked. They called to make sure we were going to make our reservation, asked if it was a special occasion, we said yes because we were going there because it was our 10 year wedding anniversary. I had heard about this place a couple times and was finally invited to a dinner here with family and took the opportunity to try it out. I was excited and had fairly high expectations. We sat outside on a Saturday night and enjoyed the cool November air and live music. The woman singing was phenomenal and the outside patio was so lovely. The covered tent I expect is for comfort of guests from rain/sunshine maybe. It was slightly chilly and we would've liked the heater but regretfully didn't ask for it to be turned on. Im going to start with the service since this was my first impression and I was less than impressed... we (my fiancé and I) arrived later than the rest of the party so I can't speak to their immediate seating experience, however upon being seated we were not offered drinks despite the server coming by twice. eventually we had to grab him while waking by to get a drink order in. The cocktails had a very nice presentation and the signature drink give no f*cks (I think is what it's called) was fantastic; the server claimed to have made it himself. He was noticeably absent most of our duration there and it was frustrating, especially as we waited after our order was input. So much so that the table behind us got up to ask us if we had also put an order in and were waiting an hour already too... they ordered burgers... It took every bit of an hour between placing the order and receiving food... which may be a part of the "experience" that I missed? I'm not sure. He came by to mention "the food would be out shortly" after about an hour. It was a really bizarre passing of time between ordering and that.... Anyway, the standout feature are their "boards" which are designed to be shared. I didn't bring a big appetite so we split a burger and the "lobster" Mac n cheese. And boy was I disappointed. Another couple with us opted for the ribeye board and were impressed, the presentation was really nice and the steak was excellent (I was able to try a piece). Another person with us ordered the chicken with risotto and his entire plate was cleaned and he seemed to have enjoyed it. The burger was laughable, it was way too tiny to share for two people and at $20, was ridiculously small for the price (I know it wasn't a "shareable" main but I'm tiny and my fiancé and I have split burgers many times). I get it, don't come to a steak place and get a burger, but some of the best burgers I've ever enjoyed were at upscale steak restaurants and while priced higher than standard restaurants they have also exceeded expectations. While it was small, it was really excellent in flavor but I can't say I would ever pay that much again for a burger. Anyway, the real disappointment was the black truffle "lobster" Mac n cheese. It lacked in flavor and I'm convinced it was actually crawfish and not lobster, the shape, the texture, the flavor... to me was crawfish... or very very tiny and over cooked lobster; either way I'm not sure. Regardless, the meat was tough and the noodles dry! So overall it was over cooked. I've had crawfish enough in my life to know the meat shape and I'm pretty convinced there were crawfish in there but I can't recall if the menu said "lobster and crawfish" so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt even though my mind definitely registered the lobster on the menu. Overall, I was terribly disappointed with my experience. I didn't want to give it 2 stars because others in the party did enjoy their meals and the ambiance was great but they also complained of the service and wait. So for me it was a 3-star experience between the high prices, the lackluster service, the long wait and the food. I can't say I'll be driving over an hour to return here when there are other places in the vicinity that I have had excellent experiences at for less. read more

We decided to last minute pop in here on a Tuesday night. It was early so we didn't have any issues getting in to a table. Waitress was great at explaining the menu to us, but when my husband said he wanted to chef to pick his steak, you could tell she was put off by his request. Maybe that's just something that doesn't happen there. Daughter and I both got ribeyes. Mine was so charred on the outside I almost couldn't eat it. The inside was cooked to a great medium rare, just the outside was bad. My husband was given a tomahawk. It was fantastic. $175 fantastic, no.. but still a great steak, just overpriced. Sides were good! Daughter got the fries. We got the board thing so we could try everything else. The potato they do isn't anything to write home about. But it was like we got skimped on the toppings. Unfortunately for a $450 meal for 3 people, it won't be a place I'll jump at coming back. There's some other places around the area that I'd rather take out of town guests to before I would E&O. I cannot believe I've lived here for two years and never knew about this place. Husband and I have been looking for a Dallas-quality steakhouse - and this is as close as we've found so far! Service was GREAT! Ivana took amazing care of us and made great beer suggestions. Their craft selection is a lot of fun - less local, but a great variety. I'm not usually a fan of "family style" menus, but the fact that their steaks could be a la cart or boarded fixed that. Ordering boarded meant we had a slew of smaller sides to try and share with each other, vs picking just two large sides to share. We ordered the Tomahawk board, which came BEAUTIFULLY presented with a loaded hasselback potato, a Caesar salad that was TO DIE FOR, oxtail stuffed bone, creamed spinach with shallots, wild mushrooms, and two sauces. Superb!!! The Caesar salad is seriously delicious. Not sure if it's lemon zest or what - but it has such a unique, bright flavor. The oxtail was meltingly tender. The Tomahawk was cooked and seasoned perfectly. For dessert, we tried the banana split, which was super deconstructed and almost like a combo theory of s'mores and banana splits. We spent 265$ for the 60oz Tomahawk board. We waited 1 hour 15 minutes and got about 10-15 good pieces of steak. I forgot that so much of the weight was the bone. We wanted water and got charged 8$ for bottled water. I was scared to ask for bread because it might have been another 15$. The steak itself was most likely the best steak I have ever eaten despite it coming out partially undercooked (adding 10 minutes of wait for cook time). The bone marrow sauce and mushrooms were exquisite both in texture and richness of flavor. The amazing taste is the only reason this is not a 1 star rating. The reason for the 2 star review is because I spent over 300$ for steak that took almost 1 1/2 hours of waiting and I still had to go to chipotle after because I was still hungry. read more

I went here for an anniversary. It fell short of my expectations. The good- the wait staff was knowledgeable, the menu was not too big or too small. We got a steak board and dessert board, both came out relatively quickly. The food itself was good, but wasn't noteworthy. Great location downtown, easy to walk around afterwards. The bad- I don't know if it was due to covid, but all the tables and chairs felt cheap and were rocking. The reviews and recommendations made me think the food was going to be delicious, but I thought it was lackluster. We ordered the 90$/120$ steak board. Steak was ok, spinach was good, potato was tasty (but potatoes are generally tasty). Dessert was good. The price seemed to be 30%-40% more expensive than what I would have paid for that quality of meal. Maybe it was because we went on a Friday night? My friends brought me and they hadn't been here for two years - BC, Before Covid. We didn't have reservations so we arrived at opening. Everyone was polite and ready to serve. In spite of what the other reviews where they complained about the service, it was excellent. Not too much in your face but plenty to keep things covered. Our food came out in a timely manner again they're making this as it's ordered for the most part so it's fresh. I could see in the kitchen and watch them cook my steak - not sous vide like Applebee's but cook it right then and it was most excellent. They're on the pricer side but then again it's quality product from fresh ingredients. The presentation was pleasant but not weird or over the top. I don't need anchovy foam on a cracker with flaming quail egg reduction to get a five star review from me - been there done that. This is nice especially for Melbourne, a step above street casual but still comfortable. It was too hot to sit outside but when the weather is good I bet it's nice. TL;DR - If you want a cheap steak go to Texas Roadhouse or Outback, they're the Checkers of Steakhouses. This place is local and not slaves to the corporate overlords. It's local, it's fresh, the drinks are poured generously but not over poured so they taste great. All in all it was a nice experience. Not just dinner, an experience.
