We celebrated our 21st anniversary at Embargo last night and could not be more happy about our choice. We love tapas and the plethora of options at this place will not disappoint. The cocktails (including mocktails) were sublime! We had oysters, waygu sliders, sesame tuna, tomato & burrata, scallops wrapped in bacon, and a lobster sushi roll. All were amazing and came out quickly. Kudos to our server Sophie who was excellent! Always checked on us and made sure we had a great celebratory dinner. My mom and I were visiting the Cape and happened to snag an Open Table Reservation here. I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is right on Main Street in the heart of Hyannis. The vibe is super cool and feels like a place you would find in a city. We were seated in a booth by the bar. Our server was awesome! She was super helpful in explaining the menu. They are known for their tapas but they also have entree options. We split 5 tapas and it was the perfect amount between the two of us! To start, I have the Razzmopolitan. If you like cosmos and raspberry, you will love this drink! My mom had the maitini and loved it as well! Here are breakdowns of the different tapas we tried: -smoked salmon crostini: AMAZING! The combination of the cream cheese spread, salmon, and pickled veggies was amazing. If you are a smoked salmon lover like me, you need this in your life! -stuffed mushrooms: This was probably my favorite of the night! The mushrooms were stuffed with three cheeses. It was so flavorful, perfectly browned, and just really delivered! -buffalo fried oysters: These were my mom's favorite! The buffalo oysters were the perfect texture and went so well with the blue cheese dipping sauce. -brussel sprouts: We both love brussel sprouts, but these were our least favorite tapas we had. It really lacked flavor. I would recommend skipping this one. -coconut shrimp: So so so good! I loved the crispy coating and the sweet chili dipping sauce was awesome with it. Hands down one of the best places on Cape for food and drinks. This place is one of my favorite places to go! So many great things about Embargo, let me list them: 1. The Service: I usually sit at the bar and I am always greeted with a smile and a friendly hello by the bartenders, they are the best. They make great drinks and a bit of friendly chit-chat as well. 2. The Food: Delicious food. Here are my favorites. The Paela for two is AMAZING. Like I have been to Spain and Portugal and this is right up there with the flavor. The fried chicken, wagu sliders, tuna tower, shrimp scampi flatbread, all the tacos, all the salads....I cold go on and on. The food is legit! 3. The Ambiance: There is always a great people-watching crowd at Embargo and many a night there is live music. The layout of the restaurant is fantastic with the bar being the focal point. The menu has lots of different options that wet loved and even my pickiest kid could find something. The apps we tried were so delicious we probably should have saved room for the great meals we got. We started with a bowl of clam chowder. It was one of my favorites, and we always get it at restaurants with varying degrees of taste. The only thing they could improve on would be the potatoes, if they were there at all. They added bacon, which was a great touch so it was a bit hard to determine if the potatoes were just very finely chopped. Regardless, I would get it again in a heartbeat. The other appetizers were calamari and poutine. The calamari was very good with battered hot peppers. The poutine was good because it's poutine, but I've definitely had better. In fairness, it could be because my kids got to it first while I was devouring the chowder. The J Mac pizza was intriguing, and even though I don't usually go for pizza at texturait with such great entrée choices or was amazing! It's a Big Mac in pizza form and the kids and I love loved loved it! We're haven't left the Cape yet and we're seriously considering grabbing one to go on the way home. You need a lot of napkins for it though. My youngest got the Mac and cheese and it was very good. Burgers were excellent and the rib eye medium rare was done well and delicious. My husband got a flight of beer and I got the Island Breeze and we were both happy. read more

I spent the last 20 days at different restaurants in Cape Cod looking for Crème Brûlée. I finally had to go on FB Cape Cod restaurant review page to ask where I can find some. A man named Stephen sent me to Embargo and I'm so glad he did. First of all our waiter, Travis, was one of the best waiters we've ever had. He was kind and he smiled with his heart and you can tell that from a person. We ordered tapas on half off tapa Tuesday today and they were all delicious. My husband even made me try the ribs even though I wasn't in the mood for them but after I tasted them I wanted more. We ordered drinks(to learn that MA doesn't do happy hour on drinks??) and they were great too. And finally ordered 2 crème brûlée flavors and they did not disappoint! I will be back! This is a MUST TRY! As a person who typically has a tough time narrowing down what they want to eat tapas are the way to go!! Tiny plates of heaven! This places idea of "tapas" is basically full meal sized for some of them it's insane and the good is absolutely AMAZING!!! The only issues I had was that the bar is so backed up that drinks would take 45 to get! I had thought that I was ordering a glass of wine for my tapas only for it to arrive after I got 5 rounds of tapas delivered so that was a huge disappointment! We also had someone in our group who ordered lobster rolls and that did not come out until 30 minutes after we had finished all the tapas! Especially being big plates I thought they would have came with everything or at least the ending portion of the tapas! 10/10 recommend the Lamb Lollipops they were perfectly cooked to my liking and the Stuffed Mushrooms were absolutely delicious! We live on Cape Cod and Embargo has become our favorite go-to spot for beautiful ambience, consistently delicious tapas, excellent ice cold martinis, and friendly staff. The U shaped bar is perfect for socializing and the 1/2 round booths are perfect for a date night. We also love that there is live entertainment on certain nights (check the schedule) and it transforms into a dance club at 10pm! I went on a Tuesday randomly and was going to just order to go but the bartender was so kind and convinced me to order in because they do half price tapas (majority) all night! So instead of getting one tapa, I had 3! And a drink! Haha I wish I could remember all the names but everyone was so sweet from the hostess (Nicole I think) to the bartenders (tall male with kinda deep voice and lady bartender with long brown ponytail) and even a server came up and chatted with me to see how everything was. We really love it here, always get a bunch of things to share. We came before a concert at the melody tent and it's always perfect timing to eat and have a few drinks before heading over for the concert. The food was good, the drinks were good but the server must have been new or just didn't know what she was doing. There was one thing after another from the moment we sat down. I was prompted to leave this review based on 2 recent, negative experiences. I likely won't go back. Last time I sat down for a meal with friends was in May 2022, service was slow and inattentive. Food was plated lazily and wasn't very good. We booked a table on the patio but it turned out to be a cold night and we waited for staff to turn on the heaters for 20+ minutes. We didn't bother to order more and quickly left for a different place. In terms of late-night drinks on a summer weekend night, skip this place. Not worth it. Bouncers are rude and clearly enjoying a power trip. The $10 cover charge is so unnecessary and is one of the only places on Main to charge one. I'll leave 2 stars instead of 1 because the bartenders behind the bar are incredibly hardworking, nice, and make great drinks. We are in the Cape for two days and saw that this place offered a special on the day we were there. The food we ordered was delicious; however, we were mislead on what was actually included in the half off tapas special. On the menu, it clearly states that all tapas are half off on Tuesday. In TINY text at the bottom of the menu, it indicates that only tapas NOT MARKED with an asterisk are half off. This is not clear and the message comes directly after a message about undercooked meat and seafood, a common note on menus. The waiter never corrected us when we said that all tapas were half off and never mentioned that only a select few were actually in this deal, so we were really confused when we got our bill and it was $40 more than we anticipated spending. We left feeling full but deceived. The manager took 10% off as a small concession, but the way to remedy this situation should be to indicate which items are actually half off and make the text bigger to profile what the deal is. It's also worth noting that a lot of the meat, seafood, and poultry options are not on the 1/2 off tapas list, and only a select few are with the inclusion of vegetarian options. Maybe we should have read the menu more closely, but at the end of the day, a restaurant needs to be transparent on what is actually offered when they present a seemingly good deal; especially in a place like Cape Cod, where a lot of patrons are visitors who don't know the rapport of the restaurant. read more

3.5 stars is a LIEEEEE My boyfriend (who cooks) and I were sooooo impressed with Embargo! They have a huge drink and food selection - and everything we tried was 5/5! The mussels were my favorite and the espresso martini was one of the best I've ever had! The menu is super creative, incredibly quick service, and everyone we talked to was so nice. The manager came over twice to make sure we loved it! Definitely a must try if you're visiting, especially if you're on a date or with friends, not really a family place. Embargo is pretty cool for the eclectic, hip vibe of a city-like venue. It's on main St in Hyannis so it sees its fair share of tourists and locals alike, as well as the euros who come to work for the summer and are a ton of fun to hang with. I prefer coming here for the happy hour and half price app/tapas days since the prices are kinda wack if you were to pay in full. The good thing about the happy hour though, you can get double and feel like at least you ate and tried your money's worth. Drink wise, I would stick with beer or wine since the sangria and mixed drinks are vastly under-alc and tend to taste like juice IMO. Came here on a Tuesday and sat at the bar. I immediately got a little nervous when I saw how many different things they had on the menu... usually a red flag. We had short rib sliders, carne asada tacos, street corn, chicken and waffles and a lava cake. Everything was decent.. nothing was great. I want to like this place, and I think it has potential. I do think if they cut the menu in half and focused a little more on quality, this place could be awesome. That probably won't happen, but I suppose I'd still go back and try more tapas. read more

This is the sixth of seven reviews from a quick visit to Hyannis on Valentine's Day weekend. After leaving the Naked Oyster in dismay, we looked for other restaurants on Main Street and found Embargo. What a difference--we were immediately treated with warmth and dignity, even though the place was crowded. We were delightfully served by the manager, Michelle, who went out of her way to make our visit special. We ordered and thoroughly enjoyed several cocktails and tapas, each better than the one before. We finished with a "chocolate beyond" cake that was wonderful, as was our entire visit. So our overpriced take out was wildly disappointing and we've had a lot of take out in the past 9+ mos.
