The manager was amazing- I did not get a chance to get his name but he was in a Hawaiian shirt and not once gave us a hard time about our many questions and concerns regarding a reservation. I left very happy! Low-key dining experience after a sunset at the beach. Everything was yummy! Had the choice to sit in the bar with live music or the dining area and we chose the bar, but it was quickly apparent we were not getting service there so we returned to get a table in the dining room. The band was great very good music. The bar area, and drinks were good, but the Nacho appetizer, and the Fish Tacos were not so good.

Extremely overpriced for the quality of what you're getting, from start to finish. We got the steak tips, priced at $28. All 3 of us ordered medium rare and these were served medium well. There was no glaze on the steak tips and poorly marinated. The rice was crispy, stale and very bland. The broccoli tasted like chlorine and was not even seasoned with salt (MAJOR ew)! We had to valet our car in a 200 foot parking lot (what)? The environment is bland (no music on the outdoor patio). The only good part of our experience was our server, Katie, who was attentive and honest. She noticed that one of our plates had 3 steak tips instead of 4 and sent it back right away. Just awful, really, we used to frequent this restaurant a few years back, thought it was a good family spot. We had visitors from out of town and they wanted lobster rolls. My mistake for not asking the price (Mkt on menu). We ordered and our guests got the hot lobster rolls, came on a small hot dog bun about 2/3 full, no butter and bone dry. They ate some and finally asked the clueless waiter for butter, still dry, chewy and small. We are not complainers and I was embarrassed that I put our guest through this , the check comes and the rolls were ready for this? $45 each, ridiculous, just unbelievable. Chapin's is a fun, high energy, family-friendly restaurant! Once you arrive in the parking lot, staff are waiting to park your car! Definitely bring CASH to tip drivers. They also add 3.5% SERVICE FEE TO YOUR CHECK. My parents and I went here on a Friday night for dinner. There was a live band which made the environment loud so if you're looking for a quiet evening this is not the place :) For appetizers, we had the calamari which came out Hot and delicious! Also we ordered the spicy salmon roll which was delicious and filling! For dinner, we had the SWORDFISH which was hot and sliced like butter! It was DELICIOUS and came with a yummy sauce (see photo!) The TUNA POKE BOWL came with fresh veggies and lots of romaine lettuce which was different. And the SHRIMP SCAMPI dish was disappointing the shrimp was over cooked but the fresh tomatoes and light sauce tasted fine. Bathrooms are clean and the to-go boxes were paper so if you have something with a heavy sauce ask for a bag or extra container! Overall the inside was clean and a bit cold! So bring a light sweater. Plenty of outside seating! And there's an outdoor bar which looked poppin! Staff was friendly and service was timely! Also the wine glass pours are huge; so enjoy! read more

I was pretty disappointed. We arrived on a Friday night at 5:30 for live music. We struggled in the parking lot with no success and ended up parking at a different, closed restaurant nearby. We were determined to dine here and expected to wait based on our parking lot experience. We were shocked to be seated immediately and noticed there were several open tables. Therefore, the table to parking space ratio is very unbalanced. We all ordered drinks but two of us couldn't even get the drinks we wanted which was a bummer. We ordered two appetizers and 4 entrees. I worried the kitchen was running behind as I watched our waitress waltz around and our soup and appetizer had not arrived after probably 15 minutes. I was wrong though. Somehow our food arrived BEFORE the appetizers. Such a pet peeve of mine. My boyfriend enjoyed his lobster ravioli but my cape codder sandwich was less than impressive. What was sarcastically impressive was the overloaded portion of fries I received with my sandwich. Should've taken a picture because this was absolutely ridiculous and wasteful. This was enough fries for 4+ people. I usually don't complain about large portions and would applause them but this was upsettingly wasteful. It's known for the restaurant, but in the back by a higher parking lot they also serve soft serve. They have plenty of flavors to choose from, and combine flavors. The ice cream is amazing, and I can recommend the Amaretto or the German Chocolate Cake combined with Vanilla. Definitely worth the try when your visiting one of the beaches close by. read more

My wife and I arrived on a Thursday night about 5:40 and were seated inside right away. After about 15 minutes we had not seen any waitress, or a glass of water, or any utensils . No one came by to take care of us. At 5:58 my wife went up to the hostess, to see if we could Get a waitress, but the hostess was on the phone the whole time My wife was standing in front of her, whithout the hostess even acknowledging she was there. During our "stay" the manger came over to converse with 4 women at the table next to us, never even looked at our table, tables on both sides of our were either eating dinner or leaving as having finished eating, so we knew there was a waitress assigned to our table We left at 6 pm, and gave the valet guy a small tip for parking our car for about 20 mins This place has no organization, no awareness of the needs of its customers and is likely surviving on its location near the beach Won't be going there again ever. We were down in Dennis for the week and stopped into Chapin's for lunch. My boyfriend loved the clam chowder and the cold Lobster roll and I really liked my cheddar burger. We both had French fries and we loved them! We had chicken fingers before we ate and they were super fresh and Crispy! The home made honey mustard sauce should win an award - SO GOOD. Have been a regular at Chapin's for years, but will not be anymore. I understand they need to update to keep up with trends but this was too far. First off, the once classy, beachy feel is gone. This place looks like Rae Dunn/millennial farmhouse threw up all over the inside. Everything is either light birch wood or stained black. They got rid of the dividing walls between rooms as well as the carpet floor, which now means that sound carries throughout the entire restaurant and makes it impossible to hear the person next to you talk, especially when the live band is playing (not hating on the live music, you just can't hear anything else anymore). The food used to be good, but quality is long gone now. The once amazing boneless buffalo wings are now soggy as well as a smaller portion. They also got rid of half of their menu in exchange for "fancier" options. Not only is the food now significantly worse, but they raised the prices. $10 for a side of fries? $16 for a small plate of buffalo wings? No thanks! The service was alright. Nothing special. It's usually college-aged students so I understand that they are trying their best. You also need to let your server know that you are paying cash or else they will up charge you (on top of the ridiculous prices). This is the only restaurant in the Dennis area that I have seen do this but maybe this is a recent trend (?). All in all, go elsewhere. This place has truly changed for the worst over the past couple of years. If you are looking for a place to take your vacationing family or even just to meet friends, spend your hard earned money elsewhere! Service was okay and the music was really enjoyable, but the food was very disappointing. My swordfish tacos were almost raw and there was very little that would make you think "taco". A bit of lettuce and tomato under the almost raw swordfish. Just yucky. On the other hand; my husband enjoyed his salmon even though it was smothered in some nasty tasting seaweed. First off, I LOVE this place and have been coming since it opened. Sadly though, when there the other night I was served a raw bar sampler with bad little neck clams :( I tried the first one even though the fluid inside looked milky, and it tasted fermented, so I spit it out. I tried a second one and had the same issue. When I let the waitress know they were bad and shouldn't be served, she said "Oh". My friend got lobster tacos and he unfortunately ended up EXTREMELY sick to his stomach for over 24 hours. This kills me because before this year, we had great experiences. Too many things about our dining experience at Chapin's were off for me to consider giving them more than 2 stars. My first impression of the restaurant was positive, given that the attentive hostess was able to quickly seat our party of ten despite how busy the restaurant was. From there, things just went downhill. We had to ask the waitress to bring waters for the table. She brought them in plastic cups with plastic straws already in the cups... which to me, seems like a huge waste. After ordering, we then noticed that all of the tables around us were giving baskets of bread and butter, which we hadn't received despite having ordered at least 20 minutes earlier. I asked the waitress if we could please have some bread for the table, and she begrudgingly brought us some rolls. I was not impressed by my meal, which I split with a friend. We ordered the chicken quesadilla, which was listed on the menu as coming with salsa and guacamole. However, the quesadilla came out burnt and was simply served with a small container of what I would describe as avocado mush (no flavor), and no salsa. I asked the waitress if I could please get some salsa and when she came back she brought me what looked like pico, but was legitimately diced up tomatoes and basil. I'm not sure if she grabbed the wrong thing, or if they legitimately think that's salsa, but It was weird. My friends were not super impressed by their meals, complaining that things did not come out hot and had weird flavors or no flavor at all. Overall, not a great meal. Sorry, Chapin's. read more

My wife, son and I really enjoyed our early evening dinner, before the dinner rush. The fried oysters were outstanding, while the shrimp scampi and swordfish were both good. My whiskey cocktail was really good as well! The music of John Dillon was great, but not to be outdone by the two impromptu songs that he let the "parking valet" sing. Apologies for not knowing the valets name, but he was so good as he stepped in from parking cars to treat the folks at the bar. Made for a great evening! read more

This was the first time we dined at Chapins. They have valet parking, which was fine with us, but if you don't like that, that's something to be aware of. Read to the end for the negative. The ambiance and decor inside was very farm house-esq, which was nice. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We found the food portions to be good relative to the prices and the food was very tasty! The reason for the 3 stars.......the "convenience" fee that was added to the bill that was 3.5%. Now this fee is if you use anything other than cash to pay. Now this is fine, but be aware that the 3.5% that you assessed me Chapins, was then taken from the wait staffs tip to cover your "convenience" fee that you should be paying the credit card company. So you are directly affecting your wait staffs tips in their pockets. Now I know, before anyone jumps down my throat, I talked with another couple and they remarked the same thing on the way out, and they mentioned about taking it out of the tip to cover the fee as well, so I'm not so far off on this. I'd rather there be a sign on the door and an ATM that says cash only then to spring the fee on me in the end. This isn't so much about the money as it is the principle, it's your fee Chapins that the credit card company asses you, not me. read more

Service was quick and attentive because they had so many open tables at 6pm on a Friday night. My girlfriends and I walked here for dinner last night. Although it was around 8, the hostess assured us they were still serving food and we were quickly seated. The menu was relatively standard for a causal Cape Cod restaurant, but they did offer an option for a hot or cold lobster roll which I appreciate. I ordered a hot lobster roll with veggies. There was a decent amount of claw meat, but the bun left something to be desired for. Overall, no large complaints about the meal; however, (mine included) the majority of our dinners came out cold. It should be noted that cole slaw was possibly the best I'd ever had. I ended up rounding up to a four based on the service. Our waitress was very pleasant. She brought us dinner rolls upon request and worked with me to find a healthy side option (I opted out of fries). I would return, but perhaps at an earlier hour in hopes for warmer food. read more

Great stop for dinner last night! My boyfriend and his family have been going here for years and I was excited to get a chance to try Chapin's. They've extended their outdoor seating under a few tents in the back. We were the only people out there when we went to dinner around 6- no wait at all. It is a little hot under the tents with no airflow but it was nice to be outside. I had a wonderful meal. The clam chowder was one of the best I've had in a LONG time. I recommend it. I also got a side Cesar salad which was equally as good. My boyfriends father got the same but with blackened shrimp on the salad. Phenomenal! My boyfriend and his mother got the shrimp and fish tacos. They were not good. They have very weird toppings for seafood tacos. Weird cheese and sauce- it just doesn't work. read more

I used to go to this place all the time with my husband and our lovely grandkids just a few years ago, back when they had the foot long hot dog and free temporary tattoos at the door. It was the best restaurant in the area so obviously it has been our go-to eatery for quite a while and as time went by, it slowly started to disappoint me and my family. Last summer, it was still pretty nice and I still had plenty of great things to say about the place, however, when I came back this summer I was EXTREMELY dissatisfied and I would even say it caused me more disappointment than my first born son, which is saying A LOT. Trust me. I got flashbacks from the middle school cafeteria and now my therapist is getting annoyed that I'm bringing that up again. The restaurant is just one giant room with a bunch of tables arranged only inches apart and because of this you can't hear a single thing from the wait staff and the people you're eating with, although that actually isn't a total loss for me sometimes when my husband is going on about politics and his arthritis and any other problems he can find. Gosh I'm rambling again, I haven't said diddly squat about the new menu. Well it sucks is all I really need to say, but if you need details, the buffalo wings come in an extremely small portion but of course not for a small price and they don't even taste good anymore. The food options themselves are so limited and they just don't taste good at all. Nothing at this place is worth the money and there are so many better options nearby. Easy to get to. Many people looked like they came right from the beach. Valet parking only. We went around 4:15 on a Saturday to beat the crowds. We were seated right away. It took about 5 minutes for a server to come over even though there were lots of people working there. Waters were given as the waitress came over which was nice. Buffalo chicken tenders were so good! All of our food came out quickly. Teriyaki steak tips, fish and chips were fresh and hot. My burger was good but pretty basic. After a day on the beach I'm sure this place would hit the spot. Two negatives...very hot inside and there seemed to be some drama with the employees which customers shouldn't be able to hear about. This review is for the new Chapins Bayside. Used to love this bar for drinks and dinner before a change of ownership. Walked in Sunday around 4pm with a half empty bar and nobody would serve us. We eventually flagged down a person behind the bar for a drink, but apparently he was the bar back and couldn't get us drinks. We had to ask him for menus and he never alerted the bartender that we needed a drink/to order dinner. We sat for another 5-10 minutes waiting for the bartender, while she helped 2 other couples who sat down after us and then chatted with other patrons instead of helping us. Very disappointed in the quality of service on a slow afternoon. We left after not receiving any service what so ever. We mentioned the incident to the hostesses on the way out but were given barely a response. No manager in site to speak to. The bar back who originally told us he couldn't help us saw us walk out and said "have a nice night", completely aloof and oblivious to the situation at hand. Too bad we couldn't spend our hard earned money here- ended up at a better establishment down the road that treated us with respect and has better food. This used to be my family's go-to spot for lunch, dinner, entertainment, and just an overall great atmosphere! The location is convenient and we've always had a great experience -- lots of memories have been made here. However, this summer marks the first year with new owners and the transition from "Chapin's Restaurant" to "Chapin's Bayside". Quite honestly, the changes have not been for the best and my family is sad and disappointed to say that we will no longer be Chapin's customers. We gave them three separate chances to keep our business because adjusting to changes can take time. During the first experience, it was very disappointing to find that all of our favorite and "go to" meal options were no longer on the menu! Consistency was the problem during the second visit. We ordered mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, and while we absolutely loved them the first time -- it seemed like an entirely different recipe was used this second time, and it was no where near as good! The third time, we ordered clam chowder, a Cape Cod classic and something the menu has always had. This clam chowder was horrible -- overly thick and mushy potatoes! We had to send it back, a first for us when eating chowder, and they were kind enough to take it off the menu. We've been Chapin's fans since the "Joe Mac" days and it's awful to admit that the place really has gone downhill regarding food and a variety. Also, customer service has been far better in previous years, even when overly crowded. Our experiences with the wait staff and hostess were not as pleasant this year, and they were quite snobbish. The updated Chapins leaves a lot to be desired. Obviously the owners are trying to attract a younger, more affluent crowd. It's too bad since the older demographic group has more disposable income and are loyal customers to restaurants that cater to good food and decent service. Our dinners were okay, nothing special to write about. The chowder was better than in the past (less potatoes, creamier, but still limited clams). Swordfish portions were rather small, jasmine rice cool. The noise level was atrocious with the removal of dividers in the dining room. Felt more like a food hall than a restaurant. We doubt if we will return on our next visit to this part of the Cape. read more
