This place is not talked about enough! The effort and creativity put into every dish was incomparable to ANY food I've ever eaten on the Cape. I am a huge foodie and grew up on the Cape- and can say I have never been in awe multiple times throughout my meal like I was tonight! Service was perfect, courses were outstanding, you can tell the ingredients were fresh- the entire experience was a foodie's dream. Will be talking about this for the next few months to anyone who will listen.

    March Menu...awesome!

First time here this past weekend and we will be coming back soon! The place was very intimate, the food was sublime and the service was impeccable. Our server, sorry forgot her name, was very attentive, fun and nice. Amanda & Jason were extremely creative with their menu and execution. All the dishes were delicious and exceptional. The drinks, wine...all top notch. Clean Slate is certainly a special place. Cool vibe, great music, a good time. We are lucky to have it on the Cape.

*Covid 19* This review is for the taco truck not the restaurant, these are dipping style tacos not the kind of tacos you make at home. -Chicken taco and cheese, yummy! Chicken can easily dry out but they execute it perfect and the meat is juicy and the consume has a little kick to it which I appreciate. -Beef taco with cheese, taste like a steak and cheese tacos then you dip it into the consume and it transforms into a completely different taco! The crispy cheese edges are my favorite part. Be careful these tacos stay hot -Chicken Ramen, it like Mexican,Italian and Japanese came together in the best way possible way! -Beef Ramen tastes very much like a Pho If you like the tacos you will love the ramen, they use SUN noodles. Open 11-2 and ramen is only on Wednesdays!

A fabulous experience. We recently enjoyed their imaginative August menu with the wine pairings. A splurge but if Jason and Patrick were doing this kind of tasting menu and experiential dining in Boston or NYC, they would be charging more. Many diners sit at the L-shaped dining table right next to the prep tables. Several of us were at other small tables. Blackboards (the slates) let you know all the courses and chefs and staff explain more. All the courses were intriguing. The most surprising magic for us was the carrot tartare course...a delightful taste of ginger, carrots and other flavors. Who knew the humble carrot could be prepared to be such a hit! So fun to start with the icy oyster. Loved the scallop-pork course, the flounder tomato course, the little steak course, and more. The re-imagined creamsickle course with pastry and ice cream sealed the deal. All the wine pairings were great too, finishing up with a nice Marsala. I typically am a small eater, but I had room for all! I was there with a friend, and we thought our husbands might not be filled with the small plate portions. But men were there, and all the patrons seemed to really enjoy at our seating. Wonderful staff and chefs. This is a gourmet entertainment in an intimate dining space. So glad we got a reservation this summer!

Clean Slate's tender sirloin with luxurious cream cheese potato purée (and some garlic chimichurri on top)

The hubby and I went to a small, 16 seat, intimate, gourmet restaurant in Barcelona during our honeymoon a couple of years ago, where the chef, personally interacting with his patrons, was pleased to present his culinary creations to customers who appreciated them just as much as he did. We were both so impressed with it back then that we wanted to try Clean Slate's version of the concept. There is a slight difference between Clean Slate, however. Whereas the one in Spain was more appetizer, main meal and dessert (with an intermezzo in between), Clean Slate is more tapas style. That is certainly not a bad thing. We had an oyster, a little bit of steak, some cod, a hearty scallop, some broccolini, and that fab little intermezzo on that white spoon that many Yelpers seem to post a picture of. And yes, that intermezzo is pretty fab! Actually, just about all of it was: the lemon horseradish granita dressed oyster that made a fantastic starter, that innovative black squid ink veined egg pasta handkerchief on top of wonderfully cooked cod, luxurious cream cheese puréed potato that came with the tender sirloin, tasty red pozole broth with that scallop, and coconut grits (wow, loved it!) and some added spice really kicked up the broccolini, which turned out to be my favorite plate of the whole dinner to my surprise. It's hard to top steak and fish, but damn, that broccolini dish was amazing. And let's not forget that special addition Clean Slate added on that night if one chose the option for another $20: pecan pesto that came with a homemade toasted banana bread and paired with a buttery foie gros! Why say "no"? Especially when we saved some of that foie gros to put on that sirloin that came out after! And for desert, there was a white chocolate bay leave ganache with bourbon caramel that was out of this world indulgent. We also were served a cucumber ice cream, which we thought was absolutely lovely with a perfect sweet and mild cucumber flavor. The only thing the hubby found didn't work was the feta cheese paired with the ice cream, which I didn't mind all that much (it was a wonderfully creamy feta), yet, understand what he meant. And the peaches that came with the white ganache weren't needed. Quibbles. The food here is great, and we both left very impressed with service and the presentation. There's also a wine pairing for an extra charge that came with each course. The hubby partook (as it was his birthday dinner), whereas I just had a beer since I was driving. We were a bit confused as to which wine came with which course at some point as there was much going on, but with all the wine one is having, it won't matter much. I did get a sip of the hubby's wines (thank you, dear!), and there were some nice ones in the lineup. The best seat in the house? Don't go for the L shaped table at the front. If you have the option, go around and stay by the wall immediately on the right when you enter and sit at the first raised table. You get a great view of the show the staff will putting on for you. The only drawback? It's a bit expensive, but honestly, what did you expect for food of this caliber? If I had money to burn, I'd easily do this once a month (when their menu changes). For now, I will settle on another visit for a special night out in the future as it's a fun and novel place for dinner. Thanks to Jason and the rest of the staff for an enjoyable evening!! To couples planning a vacation on the Cape. You're on vacation...go here, spend your money and enjoy it. But do make (required) reservations fairly well in advance. There's a reason this place has just about all five star reviews.

A culinary experience! Such an explosion of flavours, creative plating, diverse pairing, local and regional ingredients with a fun and lively vibe. 5 stars for a solid food experience. Loved the staff, loved the music, comfortable and casual. The wine pairing in addition to the chef tasting menu is a fabulous value. Come hungry and enjoy a slow dining outing.

Wow. Every course was better than the one before. Great service. Amazing food and wine pairings. Can NOT wait to go again. Make your reservations now. Who knew I liked beets? Amazing oyster, scallop, sea bass, skirt steak and dessert! Oh and yay for Narraganset creamery and their Halloumi!

The June 2019 menu - there may be special additions as well. Pro tip: Say yes.

Inventive and playful. Masterful flavors and textures. Incredible presentation. And all from a thoroughly talented and charming team. This food rivals anything in Manhattan or San Francisco. And the experience leaves them in the dust. The only thing Chef Jason enjoys more than diners enjoying his creations is to see patrons who entered the door as strangers enthusiastically engage with each other along the gorgeously crafted L-shaped low counter that surrounds his prep table. And they do. The menu changes monthly and there are traditional and vegetarian options. It's never too early to reserve your seats - there are only 16 in the house. It's an extraordinary evening. Pro tip: Try to pick a weeknight when there's only one seating... the team is especially fun then. :)

Most amazing meal with Jason tonight! Scallop, hanger steak, cod with cucamelon, summer squash succatash, everything was absolutely incredible!!! It truly was an experience. Can't wait to return!

What a fantastic night we had! Everything was amazing. Very difficult to pick my favorite, several things come to mind. The presentation was outstanding but the unique combinations of foods- perfect! It was a great experience and worth every penny! We brought our one wine, but found they have a very good offering as well. Service was very professional and well planned. It was fun watching the food preparation as we sat sipping our wine and chatting with the chef. From the granita on the oyster, the melt in your mouth scallop, the surprising burst of flavor of the intermezzo, steak cooked to perfection and the chocolate malt, we were all blown away by the play of flavors and the satisfaction they gave. I would definitely recommend to any foodie to make a reservation here and plan to be very pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Can't wait to go back!

This is the best food I've had on the cape, and it's not close. We hope to see them reopen soon.read more

It's been a month since we were on the Cape. Unable to get reservations last year, I plotted ahead…read morethis year. This is a really appealing, intimate, mom and pop (and summer help waitress) place. The hostess/ front of house boss, who was operating from the bar of this 10-12 table location, was gracious and endearing (in the way that an almost overbearing host can be- that meant as a compliment). The drinks took a minute, my fiancé's salad needed blue cheese brought out as it was left off (single most off-putting thing: the waitress, I suspect language mastery being the cause of this rather than malice or willful deceit, flat out told her that blue cheese did not come with the wedge salad...but when boss lady at the bar was asked, this was quickly corrected), there was a heavy does of reggae music. All of this less than optimal. The food was very good, though I can't remember off the top of my head what I had (it's been a month). Nor did I take pics: it seemed like it'd detract from the experience. There weren't any complaints about the food from others. (So I went back and looked at the menu: potstickers as an app- pretty good; baked local seafood as the main- good, but it is what it is in that not a ton of nuance added so as to let the seafood do the talking. The portion was decent for the price. I didn't leave stuffed, but for $38, very reasonable.) All in all, the first visit merits a second visit next year (as the website says they are temporarily closed to seek new management).
