The Pheasant is an all star experience in Cape Cod. You do not want to miss this place the next time you're in the Cape. The service was impeccable, our waiter knew the menu and made excellent recommendations. We enjoyed the clams most of all, I highly recommend not skipping out on them. Cocktails were killer and if you're unsure of the flavor profiles just ask! They were incredibly well balanced drinks. The place feels like you've stumbled into a lush secret garden and you sort of get lost in that atmosphere.

    Chocolate ganache with meringue

Came here with two other people for our last night in Cape Cod before heading back to NYC. Luckily we were able to check in much earlier than our reservation due to a table opening up. I started out with a Coast to Coast cocktail, which was delightfully fruity but not overly sweet. My partner had a dry cider which was skillfully poured into a glass to minimize foam. For starters, we got the scallop crudo with watermelon aguachile and sourdough with seaweed butter. The scallops were so buttery smooth and fresh, balancing out the acidity and kick of the aguachile. The watermelon had a lovely kick to it as well, as did the cucumbers. The bread was pretty good--it came warm and the koji-seaweed butter was perfectly spreadable. I couldn't really taste the koji-seaweed flavor but the butter was still delicious because... butter. My companions got the mushroom cavatelli (which she enjoyed--she said it was a tad too peppery but she also has the lowest spice tolerance known to man) and the market salad and short rib (which he enjoyed). My partner particularly enjoyed the mustard vin that came with the salad. I ordered the steamed clams in vinho verde and green oil, which were delicious. I only wish I had saved some bread to dip in it, so don't make the same mistake I made by eating all the bread--save some for dipping! I also got the smoked cabbage on the recommendation of our waiter, with promises that the preparation was extremely un-cabbage-like and I can confirm this is the case. As a cabbage-hater (and honestly a general vegetable-hater), I enjoyed the dish and would encourage fellow cabbage-haters to give it a chance! We finished the meal with the chocolate ganache and meringue--so rich, so creamy, and not too sweet (iykyk). I'd recommend for fans of dark chocolate but not for lovers of super sweet milk chocolate. The highlight of our meal (besides the food) was our wonderful server, Jackson. He was incredibly patient with my indecisive Libra friend and helped her decide between two dishes. He empathized with me as a fellow cabbage-hater but recommended the smoked cabbage anyway, making the recommendation all the more strong. We really appreciate how much care he spent checking in with us and chatting with us throughout the meal--it made the meal that much more enjoyable. Looking forward to visiting The Pheasant again during our next visit!

    Crowe's Pasture Oysters

We dined around 8 at the bar last night and found the food, the staff, and the atmosphere were all winning. We started with their 6 oysters from Crowes Pasture in Dennis which were served with a lemon & charred fennel mignonette. We both agreed they were the best oysters we've ever eaten. The mignonette was sublime. The scallop crudo with rhubarb aguachile and radish was perfect. I included a photo of Smoked Cabbage with Cashew labne, dukkah, mandarin curd, but we ate it so fast that the plate is empty. It was incredible. The wine list offered fine glasses and bottles selections from which we chose an 2018 JM Stephan Côte Rotie. It was amazing. The solo bartender was making all of the drinks for the restaurant and serving the bar guests. Her ability and agility was impressive. The restaurant is lucky to have her we think. Can't wait to return.

A very cozy spot that was great for our anniversary dinner. It was so neat to be eating inside a 250+ year old building with all the original wooden Timbers and flooring. Our server, Katie, was simply wonderful. Very attentive and friendly. The food was good with the fresh local ingredients though a few of the dishes were a bit eclectic in their composition. The bread and butter was wonderful. Big, crusty toasted slices of sourdough with soften butter. Yum. Our favorite dish was surprisingly the charred cabbage. The XO sauce was packed full of flavor and the cabbage was tender. The entrees were where things got interesting. The Uli's mushroom dish had lots of umami, curry flavor...and butter pickles? Really confused by that since the menu didn't mention pickles. The fish dish came on top of a beans in a dashi broth. This would have been good as separate dishes but not so much together. We did end things on a high note though. The corn cake dessert was delightful. The savory honey butter and the tart cherry compote made a nice yin and Yang for the cornbread-like pastry. Overall it is a solid place with great ambience. The ingredients are fresh and a tapas setup means you get to try everything. However, just double check a few of the dishes to make sure the flavor combos work for you.

Wine was still available in 3oz. and 5oz. pours, and we found a couple that we really enjoyed. We received fantastic service at the counter, and we were checked on several times while we were seated (we were lucky enough to get the plush chairs by the window). For an appetizer, we shared the sweet potato tempura stuffed with scallop and crab. It was light, flavorful, and beautifully prepared--an excellent start to the meal. For our entrées, the swordfish was wonderfully fresh and packed with flavor. While the accompanying potatoes were a bit dry and under-seasoned, the fish itself was outstanding. The seared tuna was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful crust and tender center, and the noodles complemented it perfectly. Fin has the charm of a historic home, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The bar is cozy and welcoming, though on the smaller side, so arriving early is a good idea. We were seated upstairs at a corner table, which provided plenty of privacy and made for a wonderfully romantic dining experience in a quaint and intimate setting. Our waitress seemed a little reserved at first but quickly warmed up and became attentive and engaging throughout the evening. Dinner for two, including tip, came in just under $200, putting it on the higher end of the price range, but the quality of the food, cocktails, and atmosphere made it well worth it. We will be back to try the oyster stew.

The service was a little slow and I did have to wait multiple times for my water to be filled after I finished it, but not a huge deal. I feel like the food was just average. I tried my friend's tuna dish, which was otoro when we went, and it was just not flavorful for me. She enjoyed the noodles though. I thought the salmon was well-seasoned, but it was unfortunately overcooked which made it really dry. The seaweed salad that came with it was pretty standard. The whole dish just needed more sauce because there was a large amount of rice that tasted really dry. We did enjoy the house focaccia with the garlic herby olive oil. The octopus was also okay-- a tad overcooked and expensive for only having one piece. Also, I wasn't the biggest fan of the two sauces that accompanied it.

The interior is pretty basic, small tables and small chairs, so a person of substance such as myself didn't find the seating comfortable. I tried: - French onion soup: this should have been an easy win. I found the Gruyere cheese to be overly thick, and the broth to be heavy handed on the wine. - Steak tartare: this was a good dish. The beef was thin cut, smooth, and the egg was cooked just right so the yolk added richness that then got offset by the capers. Due to the richness, you may actually find that this could be all you need for a meal, despite it looking small. - Croque Madame: le sigh, what a failure this sandwich was. Over easy egg? Not today, over medium, so not much runny yolk but a thicker one. This is a gigantic salt bomb, in addition. They serve your water in tiny glasses and every bite led to downing an entire glass of water. It's good they were on top of refilling the glasses, but even then I finished a quarter of this before I couldn't take it any more. I did saunter over to the counter where they have a lot of good looking pastries, so we'll see if the ones I bought end up redeeming this place. As it stands, I can't recommend this establishment unless you'd like to try the tartare.
