We live locally and have been going to Embargo for years. The food is always excellent and their menu is diverse with lots of options to choose from including sushi, vegetarian, meat and seafood. We always sit at their bar, which is beautiful! They also have outdoor seating. The staff is awesome and friendly, and the owners are the best! They organize several community fundraising events at their restaurants every year including serving Thanksgiving dinner to anyone that wants to join. read more

Honestly the most disrespectful bar and man, Greg Johnson. We were just there today, and a group of my friends and I went inside to celebrate my friend's birthday. We did not get carded at the door nor did we get carded while we were at the bar. However, the bouncers were more than happy to charge our cover fee. Once we went inside, a lot of people who were working at the establishment, kept pointing at us and clearly talking about us. Mind you, there is four people of color, and one white girl in our group. The head bouncer approached us and asked to look at our ID's, I'm from Chicago, and he took extra long for mine, and my white friend only got a glimpse on hers. However, another one of my friends had lost her wallet and had a temp ID, which she traveled with. She got through TSA, a federal government security service, and the bouncer was baffled how she got in with a temp. We were honest and said that they did not check our IDs at the door, and we were more than happy to show our age. However, he proceeded to make comments like "so you agree that you didn't get ID checked," which we responded with, "yes." We all knew that he was trying to blame us for getting into the establishment without IDs when it was his fault for not checking. Plus, we were more than happy to show him proof that we are all older than 21. Them, when he saw the temp ID he was more frustrated at his crew for not checking IDs and decided that we were the group to use to prove a point. He kept asking questions on how we got in, which we responded with, "through the door, which your men opened for us." He was not pleased with what he was hearing, and took the temp ID as a way to kick us out. We did say that the temp ID did have a barcode which he could have scanned, the temp she had because she had lost her wallet, she had flown, had drinks at restaurants, and bought alcohol with this while we wait for her new ID. He was not pleased with this and escorted us out. He kept saying that his books do not have procedures for this type of encounter, which just left my friend and I baffled because what other proof do you want if there is a state official paper in your hands. Do not come here. They will give you the rudest experience if you are any type of Ethnic. And just because they Brazilian owner does not mean they for everyone. Brought my sister here when she came to visit me while on vacation. We went on a Friday night before 9pm and had some food and drinks using a Groupon. At 9pm they have a DJ and dancing. Be sure to get there before 9pm so you won't have to pay a cover charge, if you're looking to save money because the drinks are a little pricy. Our son had a very negative experience just after Labor Day. He and two friends sat inside and when they asked about menus they were handed food and specialty drink menus only, not the wine and beer menu; when they asked about the wine and beer menu, they were directed to use the online menu (as so many restaurants do). They ordered a bottle of wine, which online presented at $36; and also 3 orders of Crème Brulee, which online presented at $8 each (I checked their online menus today (9/29) and this is still accurate). When the bill came, the charge for the bottle of wine was $45, not $36; and to add insult to injury, each Crème Brulee was $12, not $8. When our son asked their waitress, Reed (very nice, polite, but it was also her last day) about the difference, she promptly said she would talk to her manager to at least try to get the cost of the wine adjusted. Ultimately, the management was unwilling to adjust anything and our son walked away feeling very taken advantage of. Did the $21 break him? Not at all, BUT this sort of treatment is just not respectful and feeling deceived and disregarded is never something you want to take away with you. This is such a shame as this restaurant has great food, and Nicolette, one of the bartenders, is a Mixologist of great skill. But we will not take the chance of falling victim to this deceptive pricing practice and poor customer service, nor should you. read more

Overall pleasant experience .. was a bit thrown off by the decor and lengthy menu. They sell a bit of everything which could be good and bad... here, not so good. Also.. For a martini bar, their bartender wasn't very good. We ordered two dirty martinis and we didn't even finish half.. our server did notice and offered us a new drink but we were kind of over it. Food: this is a tapas style restaurant (again, tons and tons of options) .. we decided to order a few plates. We Loved the lamb lollipops, grilled sirloin, lamb meatballs and smoked salmon.. didn't care for a few of the oysters and the avocado wedges. Meh. read more

5 or 6 years ago a friend suggested we meet at Embargo for a celebratory cocktail. It was a bright warm Friday afternoon. We sat at the bar enjoyed our drinks and had a nice chat with the staff. The next weekend we went down and I brought my husband this time in addition to the delicious cocktails we had a wonderful sampling of the extensive tapas menu. Since then when ever we are over the bridge Embargo has become a destination spot for us and now our family. On the bar side, Marissa, David and Janet get to know what you like and often times before I sit my special drink is already waiting for me when I get to my seat. The dining side is just as wonderful with a wait staff who are always willing to please. The tapas never disappoints and I am forever telling my friends the the Forgettaboutit Eggplant might be better than my sweets Nonnas. If you are on the Cape give this place a try!!! We went here because we heard about the half priced tapas on Tuesdays and the half priced oysters from 4:30 to 6 pm. We wanted to try everything so we ordered a ton of different tapas. First of all, the oysters are normally $2.50 each, but the half off deal made them very affordable at $1.25. I'm not a huge oyster fan, but they were large and fresh. We ordered 9 different tapas: dates wrapped in ham, lamb lollipops, churrasco style steak, bacon wrapped scallops, pan seared scallops, spicy peanut noodles, bbq ribs, curried chicken lettuce wraps, and spanish garlic shrimp. My favorites were the pan seared scallops, the dates, and lamb. But I didn't like the curried chicken, churrasco steak, or the ribs. The pan seared scallops were on top of a bed of truffle parmesan basmati rice with a sweet roja honey sauce, and all of it was incredibly delicious. Although somewhat small, the scallops were cooked perfectly, nice crispy sear, and really tender. But the rice was actually amazing. The truffle parmesan tasted like a great garlic butter and the sweetness of the honey sauce made the rice taste so good. The dates were also really good. They had some brie cheese in them, and were like a sweet little candy dish. The sweet dates went well with the salty serrano ham. The lamb lollipops weren't too big, but they were grilled perfectly and really tender. And they tasted so good without any gamey lamb flavor. The bacon wrapped scallops were pretty good, but they seemed like your standard bacon wrapped scallops and weren't half off like the other tapas, so I'd rather just get the other scallop dish. The spicy peanut noodles were nice. They had a very asian sesame flavor and the spicy peanut sauce was tasty. The garlic shrimp were sitting in a sauce of garlic and lots of olive oil and had lots of chunks of roasted garlic. The shrimp went well with the roasted garlic, and the sauce was delicious as it had all that roasted garlic flavor and absorbed so much of the shrimp flavor too. However, the shrimp seem a little plain on their own. I didn't like the curried chicken lettuce wraps because it tasted like it had too much of an herby curry flavor, maybe too much turmeric, so I didn't really like the taste. The ribs tasted alright and had a nice sweet barbecue sauce, but the meat was awfully dry, and some of it was actually chewy. Finally, the churrasco sirloin steak had a nice thick chimichurri sauce, but the steak itself was a bit bland. I couldn't really taste the meat at all. For the most part, the food was delicious. I really like how they have a huge selection of different tapa dishes, and many of them seem very unique and interesting. My main issue with this place is that the prices are considerably high for small plates. The portions are quite small, and the price of all the tapas combined certainly adds up. However, with the Tuesday half off deal, the prices are actually quite reasonable. The plates are still small, but with the discount you can order a bunch of them without breaking the bank. So I'd only go on Tuesdays, but the tapas were great. read more

Perhaps I'm just spoiled since I recently came back from a month in Spain... but honestly the tapas here aren't that great. They're not horrible- I mean, I still ate them, but just really blah... like it's clear they don't put that much effort into their dishes. (I had the stuffed mushrooms, stuffed dates, and garlic shrimp) The sangria was pretty good though- I like that they put peach slices in it. They gave us dirty plates- twice. They also messed up our order several times. Other than that though I will say that the one redeeming quality about Embargo was our waiter- he was really nice and attentive and very apologetic when things weren't correct or when the plates were dirty. I just probably won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

Best service anywhere! Great waitress but all the staff helped each other delivering tapas as it gets ready. I would describe crab cakes as lump crab but there didn't seem to be filler. They were still good as was the fruit sauce. My friend's salmon served the yummy coconut rice! Beautiful serving plate. Enjoyed the jazz band on Thursday night. Half price tapas before 6pm which is a great deal although we went later and was worth every penny. We'd go back but meeting family so don't know that we'll have a chance. Lobster Mac and cheese is a winner! I am so glad I found the $15 for $30 deal on CapeCodDailyDeals! I feel like i would have never discovered this place otherwise. We arrived at 4:30pm when they opened because we are already in the area for another appointment. We ordered a pitcher of white wine sangrai for $30. There was a lot of ice in the pitcher but we did get 4 wine glasses of sangria out of the pitcher. There were grapes and peaches in the pitcher but due to the amount of ice, we couldnt really get to it. However, the sangria tasted amazing. The menu states that they use their 'secret recipe' and it was so good. Not sure how strong it was however. We started with the Lobster mac and cheese which isnt included in the happy hour menu but was the best thing we ordered. We almost ordered a second serving but wanted to try other things on the menu. It has a good amount of lobster and the cheese was very rich and delish. We also ordered the kobe beef sliders at $2 per slider during happy hour (4:30pm-6pm). These were good and cooked medium as we asked however they were cooked fast on the grill so the outside of the slider was a little too crisp while the inside was pink. Also, the meat was a little too round/thick for the bread it was on so he had a hard time keeping the slider together while we ate it but it was good and I would order it again. My boyfriend got half a dozen oysters as they are also half priced for HH. Lastly we decided on the churrasco style sirloin with chimichuri sauce. This was very dry and the chimichuri sauce was not good. (I usually love chimichuri sauce). We took the steak home for steak and eggs because it was too dry to eat. The waitress was great and the food came out in a timely manner. I wish this place was closer to me but even though it is not, I will be visiting very often. With the happy hour prices, how nice the restaurant is inside, and the tastey sangria, I will definitely frequent this restaurant!. read more

The atmosphere is very relaxing and the jazz music they had live that evening was nice. The food overall was pretty good but like most fine dining places a bit on the pricey side. You can expect to sink at least $60 for two people if you each have a few drinks and about 3 appetizers. The appetizers are only designed for two people so if you have a big group you can expect the bill to be much higher. I dined here recently while I was on a work trip. It was incredible all the way around. Everything I look for for restaurant. I didn't have a lot of time & the service was fantastic and also very quick. The environment is incredible whether you eat outside or inside, the environment is amazing. Only thing is, I was there during sunset and the sun was in my face so I had to switch tables. To avoid that, maybe you would want to sit inside. Everyone is so polite and welcoming when you first get there. The menu is amazing both cocktails and food. It's a martini and tapas bar. Two of my favorite things. The food is great the drinks are excellent and all the way around it would be my first stop when I get back to Cape Cod. Also, I was there during the day but I heard it gets really fun at night, too. Embargo is a bit of a trailblazer in small plate (6 years now). I have heard of friends stopping by for drinks but today was my first visit. During my travels in Spain, I have come to appreciate tapas and sharing a meal that includes good wine and fine conversation. While the menu is an "Americanized" version of traditional tapas, they have fully embraced the dining concept. I started with a nice Rioja while my partner went with a San Angelo Pinot. We were there at happy hour and indulged in half price plates. Oysters were yummy but I was focused on the Serrano Ham. In Spain, it is called jamón and is a national staple. This version was dry and left me a bit disappointed. For a finale, we indulged in the Kobe sliders. So let's be clear, it's really not Kobe but a cheap substitute that is in vogue. The glaze was slightly sweet with a nice spicy bite and the bun was superb. An inspired dish that I wonder would be better with Bison. Just a thought. We will be back. read more

We came late night and were happy to find out that food is served until 11. we tried the pan seared scallop hot tapas, tree hugga sushi, and the frites. We came right before the kitchen closed but we were still seated and our waitress Leslie was very friendly and accommodating. She placed our orders quickly and there was not a long wait at all for us to receive our food. The food and drinks were very good, my group and I loved our meals. We came here with a large group, and they were able to provide everything which interested us all: sushi, tapas, full entrees, beer, wine, sangria, and drinks with fun names. The food prices were reasonable, the drink prices were average to above average. The energy level was high. The sushi is pretty basic, and really, I wouldn't want it to go beyond that. If I wanted something a bit fancier, I'd go to a Japanese restaurant in the first place. The tapas were divided about equally among hot and cold. There were a few entrees that you could order as well. Be aware, though, that these will take longer than the sushi and tapas to be delivered. That's fine if you're also snacking on these and/or appetizers. Otherwise, you could be waiting anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes watching everybody else eat until your meal arrives, unless you linger on the bread and garlic-infused olive oil - which contained whole cloves of roasted garlic - very tasty. We ordered the tempura vegetables, Kobe beef sliders, roasted brussel sprouts, and the spicy peanut noodles. Everything came out one at a time, which was nice. I was a little disappointed in the roasted brussel sprouts. I would have preferred them to be roasted longer, but the flavor was delicious. The spicy peanut noodles were served cold and had just the right amount of "kick" to them. I loved the fact that the vegetables were served nice and hot. The sauce that accompanied them had a little spice and complimented the vegetables perfectly. They have a wide variety of cold and hot plates and also sushi. I love tapas; it gives a diner a chance to sample several dishes and share with a friend. This place has a nice selection of cold and hot tapas. We chose a couple of the bartender's suggestions -- braised short ribs and salmon bruschetta and also ordered the spicy tuna sushi roll and some coconut shrimp. The service was great, our bartender efficient and friendly. The only downside is that this place is overly noisy. We had at first wanted to sit outside but after just a few moments of loud and obnoxious neighbors next to us (mind you it's daylight out still), we opted for indoor dining. We again changed seating from there to the bar because it was just loud in general. We ended up sitting at the end of the bar away from most of the crowd to get a little peace and quiet to be able to hear one another. read more

TLDR: food was of average quality and overpriced, vibrant ambience great for after-work hangouts. The mussels in white wine and herb broth were the best dish of the night. The shellfish was cooked just right and was plump and sweet. The broth was flavorful and aromatic, without the astringency of the alcohol. This also came with three slices of toasted bread which were great for mopping up the delicious broth. The coconut-crusted jumbo shrimp was fresh. However, the batter could not stick to the shrimp; the deep-fried coating kept falling off after the first bite. The shrimp had a subtle hint of coconut, which was pleasant and not overwhelming. Otherwise, it did not really stand out. I also got the grilled sirloin with crispy onions and home-made chimichurri. The sirloin arrived medium, sliced into pieces for easy handling. It had a decent char but average flavor. There were also a few slices of tomato on the plate to cut the grease, which was thoughtful. The chimichurri tasted average as well. There were a lot of textures and tastes going on in this one tapas, and I don't think it worked out so well... I tried the Route 66 Roll, which was a lump crab sushi roll. The rice was rolled tight and was cooked all right - a little mushy but still retaining the individual graininess. There was a good amount of crab meat but it did not taste sweet, which made me really sad. Finally, I also had the lamb meatballs with tzatziki and pita. The meatballs were smooth and textureless and tasted like they had a lot of fillers. The tzatziki and pita were delicious though, but not outstanding in any sense. I went there on a Saturday night when a live jazz band was playing. There was a sizeable crowd but it quietened down nearer 7.30 pm. The music was pleasant and not jarring (thank goodness), particularly suited to hangouts. Even with a Groupon ($40 value), my check came to $50 after tips. For four mediocre dishes and one stellar mussel tapas, I did not think that the meal was of good value. I regretted the long drive down to the Cape just for this... read more
