My Upstate New York #foodbae. I never leave unsatisfied when I can munch on a chicken salad sandwich while working in this cafe. Small and homey, with everything I need most of the time. This visit was very different. Couldn't work this time because the staff did not know the Wi-Fi password. "Only the Lady has it, and she won't be back until next week." What the What? This is a first. I was told that people don't come in to work on their laptops anymore. I'm very sorry to hear that. There's still chicken salad. $5 for my sandwich and chips. I received my bag lunch, day down and unwrapped my food, only to hear "Oh, you wanted that for here?" 4 stars because I've eaten here several times. Law of average.

I loved this place. It was a small hidden treasure in the Canisius College area. It may have been too tiny to sit and comfortably relax, but big personalities, big portions and the big hearts of the people who worked there made up for it. I'd get a slice of coconut cake larger than my head for $2 or so bucks, and they also offered these little single serve sweet potato pies and bean pies that you could just pop out of the tin and into your mouth. Their strawberry smoothie was pretty good, too. Tuesday nights they'd offer poetry night (no cover charge if I remember correctly, but they preferred you to buy food or drink) and I remember one poem where a woman talked about a "white bitch" that she was in conflict with. Expecting this to be another stereotypical "Angry Black Chick" poem, I wasn't expecting the twist at the end to be that the "white bitch" she was referring to was cocaine. Damn, what a way with words. The people who read poems were mostly talented folks, and I rarely remember any of them being bad enough to be pulled off the stage a la Showtime at the Apollo.

The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and effortlessly cool, the kind of place that makes you want to linger for hours with a good book and a great cup of coffee. My fiancé and I each ordered one of their specialty coffees along with bagels, and everything was fantastic. After a less than stellar experience at Tim Hortons earlier in the trip, Seven Hearts completely redeemed our coffee expectations. It was exactly the aesthetic and experience I had been searching for. What really made it special was how quickly it felt like a place I could make part of my routine. If I lived in Buffalo, this would absolutely be my go to coffee shop. Before leaving, I picked up a couple of honey sticks and a bottle of their house made lavender syrup to bring home. Now I get to enjoy a little taste of Seven Hearts, and Buffalo, with my morning coffee for a few more days.

Stopped in here to kill time before an appointment after seeing the high ratings, but unfortunately…read morethe experience didn't live up to them. Most of my rating is based on the service. Upon entering, no one greeted me, and I felt rushed while looking over the menu. When I asked questions, it felt like I was inconveniencing the employee rather than being helped. I ordered the blueberry lemon bar matcha and hoped the drink would redeem the experience, but it was disappointing. The flavor combination didn't work well in a matcha drink, and it left a strange aftertaste/coating in my mouth. I also specifically requested no dairy (asked for oat milk) yet it still came topped with cold foam, which upset my stomach. It looked cute, but for nearly $9, it wasn't enjoyable. I had originally planned to order food as well, but the overall atmosphere and interaction felt so uncomfortable that I decided to just take my drink and leave.

Little did I know I'd be coming into my favorite type of literally "everything"! Eclectic and vintage decor with absolutely perfect use of vintage and antique kitchen and table ware. A very interesting and fun repurposing of an old building/house. Very friendly, patient and helpful employees (apologies to the very kind woman at the counter, because when I'm excited I tend to chatter a lot). The baked goods were delicious, the whole grain toast was hearty and so full of flavor. The croissant was large, flaky and buttery. My husband's apple cake was moist and the frosting was perfect. I really enjoyed the coffee and since they don't grind the beans for you, I bought the bag of their signature blend then stopped at Walmart for a coffee bean grinder. I love savory for breakfast so I had 2 soft boiled eggs, ham, gruyere cheese, whole grain toast and pesto. When my plate came I was very pleased to see the vintage items used and some repurposed very cleverly. If the decor isn't your "thing"...make a visit for their food and coffee.
