I find Elyisian Fields to be meh. It's one of the options close to the stadiums. The wait times are ridiculous and the food is overpriced and mediocre. I ordered the vegetable soup. It tasted like it was canned soup and the broth was an unappetizing texture. I also ordered the artichoke dip which was okay but the main flavor was salt and also tasted pre-made. Not worth the price. Others seemed to enjoy their food (steak sandwich, pasta) so maybe I just ordered two of the wrong things. They do have great beer though! read more

I HATE paying for parking. So much so that I will get to the Sounders Matches 2 1/2 hours before kick off to ensure we can find free parking, that has easy access to I-90, because in addition to being cheap, I hate being stuck in traffic. What does this little gem of a story have to do with Elysian Fields? Well, instead of paying $10 for parking, I'd rather spend $25 on beers at Elysian. Yah, I don't understand the logic either. But, there is beer! I love beer! Elysian has a good selection of interesting beers available. While I have yet to find an Elysian beer I love, I have also yet to find a beer that I hate. Which obviously counts for something... what, I don't know. In addition to good beer, they also have fries that fall into the "crack" category. I don't order food here though cuz it's overpriced, and underwhelming. Just stick to the beer and fries, and you'll be fine. On game days, this place is super crowded, obviously. If you aren't a fan of crowds, and expect fast, prompt service, this place probably isn't for you. They're busy. Deal with it. If you show up more than 2 hours before game time though, you can usually grab a seat at the bar, or a table of some sort. I wouldn't come here to hang out on a regular basis, but this is a good spot before Sounders games. read more

I've been here a few times before. Brought it large parties and game day groups and never had a problem. Spent a ton of money here. HOWEVER! I came in last night with a large group of friends, ordered a couple beers and had a good time. At the end of the night, everyone got their tabs. Mine came to $80 for three beers. When I questioned it, the waitress said "No. Its eighty dollars and you're going to give me your card and pay it." Which was a little off-putting to say the least. I asked my friends if they all got their correct bills, which they said they did. My friends told me to just pay it worry about it later, so I did. I tried to ask the waitress again why it came to $80 for three beers and she yelled (seriously) "You came in here acting like a big baller saying you were going to pay for everyone's drinks tonight. Well, pay up!" Weird. As a man on a tight budget, I'm not too given to "balling." I paid up and did not leave a tip (obviously). Everyone else paid their tabs as well. We were escorted out like convicts to which I tipped them a promise that I'd destroy them on Yelp. (= That may or may not have caused a security guard to dare me to hit him, which was really hard not to oblige to. Oh well. Bottom line, don't risk your wallet with this place. If you crave Night Owl, head to the Elysian on the hill. This place is kinda sketchy unless you're really careful to stay sober-ish and use cash. And I'll remember their strange scammy tab-inflation tactics as I'm eating Top Ramen for dinner every night this week because of that tab. read more

Went here after the last Seahawks game and since the Seahawks lost in OT I was in a bit of a depressed mood. Elysian was cool though, nice place to walk to after the game since it's right beside the north entrance to Qwest Field. The margaritas were stiff and boy did we need them after an OT loss and there were plenty of seats available for people to sit in. I didn't experience the food so can't comment on the quality of it. Don't expect to get an intimate feeling from this bar though, it's massive so you may find yourself getting lost in the crowd and having trouble getting around the place at busier times. There are plenty of TV's on the wall and I know some friends that watched the Seahawks game from here, so if you don't have a ticket to the game but want to watch it close to the stadium this might be one of the better options. read more

They flunked ALL King County Health Dept inspections in 2012, and have not had a "satisfactory" rating from the Health Dept since May, 2011. [To be clear, they earned an "Unsatisfactory" rating for all inspections in 2012. The only thing worse would have been if it had been so bad as to have closed the restaurant immediately.] In this case, vote with your feet and go to a better quality establishment. Love their beer, but fear their food!!!!! At least I'm confident that alcohol will kill the stuff that otherwise resides in their product. But I do wonder where I can go in Pioneer Square that would be any better..... Good luck. read more

Elysian is our go-to joint for pre-game festivities. It usually manages to avoid the crazy frat-boy antics of Sluggers or Pyramid, and offers better brews. It attracts a more mature crowd than the aforementioned joints. The staff do their best to keep everyone happy and well-fed, and if you're aggressive (as you should be in any busy bar) you can get served pretty darn quickly and without any issues. If you're lucky enough to get a table on a game-day the service is usually slower than on a non-game day, but still sufficient. Overall if you're hanging out down by the stadiums before a game and want to avoid the douche-fest that is Pyramid or Sluggers, then Elysian is a great way to go. For pre-sporting event drinks/eats there's none better. read more

Elysian is hands down my favorite brewery at the moment. Their beers are always really good to me and never disappoint. The one thing I love about them is when they add unique flavors you really taste it, where most breweries can only give you the smell of that unique flavor. For example, their autumn seasonal pumpkin beer. Most pumpkin ales just kind of smell pumpkiny, Elysian brings you taste as well. I recently tried their Squeezebox, which is a berry IPA. I can't say I love it because it was on the sweeter side, but you really tasted the berry and it complimented the IPA very nicely. I could go on and on about specific beers, but I will stop here. I frequent their location in Capitol Hill, this was my first time at Elysian Fields in Sodo. This place is HUGE! I came here with a big group and they were able to accommodate us all on one table. They had a vast selection of food and everything we ordered was yummy. Since I came here with a craft beer group many of us opted for the custom sampler (5 beers of your choice for $11). Majority of us were intrigued by their seasonal American Pale Ale, Honeycomb. After taking our orders, our waitress came back to inform us they were out of Honeycomb. We were all bummed but happily picked a replacement for our trays. After all of our food and beer came back she came back with free pours of Honeycomb! The bartender found a keg downstairs. That made everyone's day. When it came to splitting the check between almost 15 different people, they were totally cool about it and stayed chipper. I went to Elysian Fields with a couple coworkers before the Sounders game on July 19 to grab a beer. The bouncer at the door checked our IDs and when we walked inside no one was at the front table. A woman who worked there walked by and told us it was open seating. We went to the bar, ordered a beer (they had a great selection) then walked out to the patio to sit down. There are probably seven or eight tables on the patio and there were only a few people out there. We were almost done with our beers when the hostess (who we hadn't seen until then) walked up to us and said the patio isn't open seating. We apologized for the misunderstanding and told her we would leave as soon as we were done with our beers. She stood over us, glaring, with her arms crossed. When I tried to explain how we were under the impression from her coworker that it was open seating, she interrupted me and continued to be imposing and rude. If they had the patio reserved or it was busy and they needed the space, I would have been much more understanding. But at that point we were the ONLY people on the patio. She was incredibly rude and made us all uncomfortable. We chugged the rest of our beers and left. Next time, if I walk through the door and see that hostess ( a middle-aged, dark haired woman), I will turn right back around and go somewhere else. I've never had such a bad encounter with restaurant staff in my life. read more

This is being generous. Sat down at the bar, literally 10 people in the place as patrons and it took ten minutes to even get a drink order in. They were not understaffed, just not interested or didn't even care. It had been years since I stiffed a server for a tip, but the entire staff here is just oblivious, a table of 5 that came in ten minutes after us just got up and left because no one even acknowledged them. The manager of this location needs to pull their head out of their ass. This was pathetic and I will never patronize this establishment again. Ordered the spinach dip which came out after 20minutes, once again, if they were busy understandable. The spinach dip was overlooked, how I have no idea. Why is that any time an establishment tries to become upscale it picks up a whiff of douchiness? I'm so enthralled with the original Elysian in Capitol Hill that I assumed Fields would be the same. Maybe I'm biased to the cheesy fish tanks, a la Deuce Bigolo or the patrons. In either case, I've always felt under-dressed and a smidge uncomfortable here (like a $2 hooker in church -- deduct 1 star). Plus-one with Tiffany S. Hooray for the Pumpkin Beer Festival! I was tragically called into on a Saturday, thereby missing the pumpkin beer in the Capitol Hill location. Luckily, the Fields was having it the next week and I even had my hiking buddies to guide me through the 3 sampler trays. Sip, sip. Yum, yum. We also ordered two appetizers: seared ahi tuna and mussels. The ahi was delicious (albeit a little stingy.. 4 miniscule slices -- deduct 1 star) with its peppery sauce, cucumber slaw and puff nori chips. And the mussels were excellent; its proportions, flavor and bread soaking characteristics. The one plus I see in having multiple Elysians is they can spread out the events like the Pumpking Beer Festival to multiple days. (Oh yeah, the locations pretty awesome for pre-func/post-func for Seahawks' and Mariners' games.) read more

My husband is a true beer lover so we had to hit up Elysian on a recent trip to Seattle after we read that it's one of the best brew pubs in town. We definitely weren't disappointed. The waitstaff were awesome. Super knowledgeable about the beers, offering samples to both of us, attentive without hovering. They were excellent. On to the food. I have to disagree with the previous reviewer who called it weird froo-froo food. It's definitely bar food with a slightly more upscale, healthier twist. My guy had a steak sandwich with blue cheese & horseradish sauce & fries. I had a portobello panini and field greens salad w/ loads of blue cheese & pecans (it rocked). It's nice to have more options than just greasy burgers & deep fried crap. As for the beer....the seasonal nightowl pumpkin ale was heaven in glass. Order this! It's like liquid pumpkin pie. Cavernous and stark is how I'd describe this place. Or maybe just another yuppie bar. Beer is great, but this one lacks the charm of Capital Hill's Elysian. They have an enormous industrial metal round bar in the middle of the store where most of the people I saw sit. Also, they have these booths against the wall for four people, but they're as big as a house. It didn't really do it for me. Also, why no bar food? Would some nachos kill you guys? Something deep fried? I did get the closest thing to bar food that they have... a Chicago dog. Let's just say I still miss Chicago. They put some strange kind of peppers on the dog that didn't do it for me and the pickle was not nuclear. On the positive side, they did give me a free Perseus Porter and Miss Mary Ann's cranberry juice was free too. Terrell M stopped by and had a beer with me for a while too, so the company was awesome. Hate to say it. Went here in plenty of time to be seated before a Sounders match, but got zero customer service. We were told we had a 10-15 minute wait when we arrived and put our name on the waiting list, only to wait for over an hour without being seated. On our way out the door, we inquired as to our wait time only to be told we "had cancelled our table request". B f'n S. We were a party of 2, and apparently not lucrative enough for them on game day, so they blew us off. We won't be giving them our business in the future and it's just as well, the People's Burger food truck ruled and it was a helluva lot cheaper. This has been a popular spot for a group of us at work since it is about a 9-iron away. On Fridays we have what is dubbed "Beer Lunch" and 2 weeks ago we ended up here. We enjoyed it so much that we went again last week! Referring to this place as large isn't doing it justice. Cyclopean is more like it. What is Beer Lunch without beer? I think everyone in the group ordered an Immortal IPA to start. Wow. Too bad about this location not being able to fill growlers. Let me give the WA State Liquor Control Board a wag of the finger for that one. Time to order food. "Will, get the steak sandwich." "Steak sandwich please. Medium-rare. Could I also get another pint of Immortal IPA? Awesome. Thanks!" I received the steak sandwich and take a bite only to have it a little "gamier" than I expected. My friends commented on this and swore up and down that usually the steak isn't gristle with steak particles in it. Luck of the draw I guess. I still have to admit the flavor was amazing. It was so good in fact that I scraped all the steak off of the sandwich, surgically removed as much gristle as possible, and placed back on the sandwich to continue eating. The second time I went I ended up eating this Cuban-style sandwich. I forget the name but trust when I say that it was delicious. I remember that it had gruyere on it. Also had two more Immortal IPA's and a Porter of sorts. If you are in somewhat of a hurry (like a 1-hour lunch break) you need to multitask with your ordering. For example, I have learned to order my second pint when I am halfway done with my first. By the time I finish the first pint the second one is on the table. It is a large restaurant so the servers have a lot of ground to cover. If however you are not in a hurry, this is a cool place to spend time with friends, family, co-workers, etc.... read more

Went here after a Sounders game. They are in the middle of a huge remodel while continuing to operate, so I'm guessing a future visit would be somewhat different. From what I can see, they have significantly opened up the space with a heavy focus on a large central bar now. I had the IPA to drink, which is a consistently solid offering. They have a full bar selection as well for the non-beer crowd. We shared a few orders of the brussel sprouts appetizer, which was a group consensus hit. I gotta say that was the worst $15 steak sandwich w/ Ceasar salad I have EVER had. I mean come on, a steak sandwich demands a decent cut of beef. I ordered mine medium rare and it was tough, tasteless and full of gristle! What was that, stew meat? Disgusting, I couldn't even eat it. And the salad was bland beyond all blandness. Good beer. Elysian always has good beer and they always have something new. Hubby loves beer, so he loves coming here. I don't like many beers, but I can always find a beer I like at Elysian. Good food. I ordered a pasta dish the last time we were here, it had a white wine/cream sauce thing on it. It was delicious. We always sit in the bar area and never have a problem with service. Really I think you're the worst restaurant I've visited here in Seattle. Service there was horrible. We went there for a pregame drinking and they took forever to bring us our drinks, took forever to take our food order and then bring us our food, took forever to bring us glasses for the pitcher of beer . took forever to bring us our check and then when we got it I had to get up to take the payment to them. This is one of those times I wish we would have dined and dashed. Never done than in my entire life but was really tempted to here. Oh and my truffle fries was served in a freaking cup. Am I suppose to drink it? There was no plates. I had to pour my truffle fries in a napkin and eat it with a fork where I placed little beads of ketchup. Oh I nicely let the bar manager know that everything with our experience was horrible and the douche didnt do jack about it. That guys needs some customer training sessions. I know how hectic it can get. It wasnt hectic in there and no matter how hectic it is there's a way to make your customers still feel welcomed. LIke the server could have stopped by and said were so busy right now but I just want to let you know your stuff is coming soon. I went here the Saturday night before the NFC Championship game and it was DEAD! We got there at like 10pm and left around midnight and the entire time we were there maybe there were another 6-7 people in the place other than us. Which was weird because the place is freaking huge. Something tells me this place is busier when there are events happening at the nearby stadiums, but this place was extremely dead when there was nothing going on. Other than that, I really liked the beer and the drink selection that they had. That was fabulous. I was bummed that they were only serving their limited selection of bar food when we were there instead of the full menu. I ended up having the caesar salad and it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special either. So in conclusion, if you're looking for a party, don't go here on a night when there isn't anything happening at the stadiums lol. read more

Only reason I am giving three stars and not two is because I've been before and the service was not as near as bad as the service I got last night. Went with a friend sat in the bar (which was pretty empty) and had the slowest service. Took a long time to be able to order, had to request water two times before we got it. We had finished our meal and had been waiting for at least 15 minutes and made eye contact with multiple servers and didn't get a check. Finally a server walked by and I asked for our check and she told me that it wasn't her job to get checks for the bar. A group of three of the servers sat around and talked most of the time while we were there not willing to help customers. read more

It feels like they know they'll fill the place regardless of quality or service. I've lived within 2 blocks of the Cap Hill Elysian, and their menu/service suffered on occasion. That said, Elysian Fields doesn't even try. The feeling that I get from the passive staff and bland food is that the owners and/or managers know that any money spent on service or food will just come off the bottom line. If you don't know the place, it's wedged very effectively between the sports stadiums and a vibrant business district. Excellent move on their part. The business acumen of their management shows in their food. All the money is spent filling seats but very little goes toward an actual good experience. My last time there wasn't good. Warm beer, occasional and ambivalent service, and uninspired food. The word 'meh' when I typed in the 2-star rating is exactly how I felt. Bottom Line: If you're from out of town, this place in no way represents the quality of restaurants in our city. If you're from Seattle, what are you doing going in there for food? Drink your beer fast and just eat peanuts for dinner. read more

Second time in the last few weeks coming for lunch... its close and they have a patio, such as it is... but its just so blah otherwise... service was decent, except that my lunch companion wasn't offered refills when his soda and water hit empty... food always feels like it takes too long... their one bright spot in my meal was the fries, the fries are legit... but I had the Italian sandwich and to me its a step up from Subway... the bread wasn't as good either... I know its artisan bread and all that... but is that just a fancy way of saying "kind of stale"?... Also on a side note, brought my dog and wanted to sit out side and tie his leash up to their patio railing... hostess told me that was a no no... BUT, I had come previously for beers and done the same exact thing.... the bouncer working that day brought my dog a water bowl... so, yeah, can we get some consistency on that policy as well please? This place is huge and dark and something else I couldn't quite put my finger on but I know I didn't like it. Honestly I wasn't that impressed, no not really. The food was blah, lacking the basics i.e. salt, there was no seasoning done or if there was it wasn't to my liking and I just ordered the hummus plate. The beer, well I didn't try theirs I went with a lovely Hoegaarden my dining companion for the evening he went with their stout, he wasn't a fan of it. I on the other hand loved my Hoegaarden very much. The service was OK, nothing memorable about it so I guess that means it wasn't bad. It's not someplace I'd go out of my way to go to but if I wanted to grab a bite or a beer before a baseball, football, or soccer game I'd stop in here. read more

ALmost a year since I was last here - I had forgotten why I love this place - it's been a while since I had the chance to eat here. Fortunately for me (and unfortunately for the person that I went looking for) I wound up in the neighborhood around lunchtime - alone - and decided to pop in and grab something to eat here - yet another late lunch. Best thing I have done so far this year (yeah, it's early, I know). The reason that I love this place is that the food is five stars and the service also is five stars. This is one of the few places around Qwest/Safeco that is not "some greasy sports themed restaurant". This place is high end food (not for the economically challenged) and excellent beer as well. Today I had the meatloaf sandwich and a pint of stout. Yes, I know, here I am talking about "high end" and "five start" in one sentence and the next I'm trumpeting a meatloaf sandwich. A messy one at that, I might add. But man was it good - one of THE best sandwiches that I have eaten (and I have eaten a LOT of sandwiches). For the price ($11) it had better be. Add on that glass of beer and lunch ran me $20 - but you may notice that I am not complaining - on the contrary, I would go back tomorrow if I was back in the area. This is really, really good food. Excellent beer, top notch service, plus all the other things that I already said. Eh, I'm not quite sure how to feel about this place. The work wife and I stopped in here before our first ever Sounders game. We got there early to check out what they had going on around the stadium and ended up here. When I walked in I felt under dressed. Not that everyone was dressed to the nines or anything, but the decor and atmosphere felt very upscale. Pair that with the rudeness of the bar staff and it really felt stuffy. Since it was game day the place was packed. Absolutely no seating to be found so it was standing room only unless you were lucky enough to get there super early. Expected. I also understand that they were completely slammed, but doesn't that happen every game day or weekend? You would think they would be used to it, but they seemed unhappy that anyone was there at all and not at all friendly or even attempting to hide their feelings. We didn't end up staying long. This isn't the cheapest place so I wouldn't stop in here for a cheap night out. If you want to spend some money, sit in an upscale type atmosphere, and are willing to deal with a little attitude, this is the place to be. read more

Solid three-star establishment for a pre-game meal and beers. Lots of seating and nice ambiance but the service was a lil slow. I liked the Men's Room beer. The Saison beer had a weird after taste to it. My burger was decent, but nothing special and 3/4 of the way through I stopped because it wasn't worth the calories. Overall, the menu was a little high brow - not typical bar food. I didn't order a mixed drink, but they sure put a lot of ice in the ones I saw. Don't waste your time. If I could rate them a ZERO I would and it would be way too complimentary. From the managerial staff who believe that the customer deserves no respect or dignity to the seating process that allows this eatery to operate at 75% capacity on an event day while eager customers sit for over an hour with no update to waiting for over an hour for what amounted to cold and uninspiring food. I have never experienced a worse environment in a public service establishment, run by a manager whose bland, uncooperative, holier than thou style had customers walking out by the droves. Please note that the wait and bus staff cheerfully confirmed that all of the above is and continues to be a systemic issue at this establishment. It was very surprising to find this place last baseball season. Just because I thought I knew my own city, and had never been here. Where have I been? It really threw me for a loop - I go to a dozen games a year. But, I guess I was stuck eating at all the old usual places in the SoDo area. Try this one, it's new and maybe even better! It is a huge modern sports bar with good food located right next to the stadiums, with many great fresh beers on tap, and tons and tons of people watching. Areas for groupsand singles, and pretty fast service. They are so friendly - full of recommendations. Once the bartender let us sample some tequila when we said we recognized a special bottle from one seen in Mexico City. We should speak more often! read more

Trying to be brief as I hate to dwell on the negative... Food was okay. My server was a BAD server, service was not positive. There were 6 servers roaming around with only a small portion of the dining room filled, 25%. We were a party of 7 with 4 of us there ready to order. We sat down before two other groups, at least 5-10 mins before them. One group was a party of 4, the other a party of 6. Our server had taken our drinks & app order however we weren't served our drinks till after the other tables did. The order consisted of 2 beers, 1 glass of wine, 1 cocktail. The other tables had mixed drinks. Waited, and waited, and waited... 30+ mins later, I end up tracking her down in the bar and asked her to stop by our table. When confronted with our observation that it'd been a while, she told us she thought we were waiting for the rest of our party and was it that they weren't coming anymore? We told her no, they are coming but we needed water refills and to order. This was my first and last visit to this locale. I didn't even leave a tip. *Oh, and my 5 onion rings @ $5 changed to $3 when I learned that it wasn't a full order. I do love the standards done right, but I really dig any brewery that tries to experiment. I come here just for those. Very rarely have I had something I didn't care for, and many times I've had something that was amazing! Oh, and their food is awesome. All of it. There is little reason not to come here, especially on a day that isn't Friday. read more

I love all three locations of Elysian. They each have their own unique characteristics. Since this is a review of Elysian Fields, I will focus on that. This is the newest Elysian location and it is located right across from Qwest Field (aka Seahawks Stadium) and next to Pioneer Square. It might be the biggest location of the three and each time I have gone there, it has not been crowded. The decor is very swanky compared to the other locations - leather, wood, exposed beams, etc. I like sitting in one of the over-sized booths in the bar. Like all Elysians, the service is great with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. We have only ever drank at this location and the menu seems slightly different (maybe more frou-frou) than the other two locations. But I have eaten at the other two locations so I would recommend the food. The first time we went to Elysian Fields I ordered a Blackthorn Cider - I know its not one of the brewery's beers but I was in the mood for cider. Unfortunately it was not very good - it tasted like a bad batch but I drank it anyway instead of returning it. My boyfriend ordered the Avatar Jasmine IPA and it was very good (I took a few sips of his). Last night we returned to Elysian Fields for a Valentine's Day beer. He ordered the Bifrost Winter Ale which is very hoppy and bitter and I ordered their special Valentine's Day brew - a strong stout with a chocolate finish. The Elysian Brewery has a great selection of beers that they rotate seasonally. My favorite time of year at Elysian is autumn when they have the pumpkin brews available. They know how to make a great pumpkin beer that is strong and flavorful with the right amount of spice. I also love summertime when they release the Avatar Jasmine IPA; what an interesting combination - it is hoppy and bitter as well as fragrant (even floral). My boyfriend's favorite time of year is probably wintertime when they brew the Bifrost Winter Ale. You will always find something new at Elysian and it is uniquely Seattle. read more
