These folks can BAKE! I ordered a classic, two-layer, 8" round chocolate cake. It was absolutely decadent!! Everything you hope for... perfectly dense, moist, rich and just the right level of sweetness. A chocolate-lovers dream. Called on a Friday afternoon, for Sunday pickup - and Jason got it done for me. I really appreciated him turning it around so quickly. Oh and I grabbed some cupcakes too! As soon as we walked in, the smell was sweet, like a traditional bakery. Welcomed and greeted politely by the owner/baker. Offered vanilla or orange, to which selected vanilla. The cookie was absolutely amazing, beautifully decorated with gold sprinkles on top. Cupcakes were elegantly decorated, purchased some for later to take home. Wonderful and friendly little bakery! They made a cake for my granddaughter's 8th birthday with little direction. Gave them a birthday cake topper and basically said they should just roll with it, lol! Couldn't have turned out better. Usually, I find a place like this on yelp, but actually saw them when stopping at RJs cigar lounge a few shops down. I mean, what could be better? Awesome baked goods and cigars! We needed some rolls for soup we were having and I was actually letting homemade Italian French bread (pane Frances) rise, but it wasn't going to be ready. Anyway, saw this place and figured even if they don't have rolls, I've go to check them out. Ended up buying croissants and truffles. They make their own truffles- MAN! Better than my cigar! Some of the best truffles I've had. Mine was some kind of dome shaped, dark chocolate, brown sugar, caramel creamy, delectable, addicting peace of goodness. They gave me a free shortbread cookie, too. I didn't let anyone at home know I had that - excellent. Light, but buttery. Evidently family run. They were very proud of their goods, and for good reason. They said they even make custom cakes based on your description of a prior childhood treat that you remember. They will investigate and figure out what that is and see if they can make it. Now that's craftsmanship. We need craft bakeries like this. And they are hard to find. It takes a lot of work to do what they do. Just as a hobbyist home Baker, who occasionally dabbles with croissants and other breads, I appreciate the effort they do to turn out superior products all the time. In fairness, my review is based on my first trip, but from what I saw, and what I tasted, I have no doubt the rest of their products are probably exceptional. Give this place a try. I am totally disappointed (insert sad face). I was so excited when I heard this store reopened. I was expecting the same goodness and deliciousness as Cups and Cakes. The new store, Elysian Fields, did not meet my expectations. Nor, did they meet the expectations of my mother and husband. We were loyal repeat customers of Cups and Cakes. So when Elysian Fields took its place we were excited to sink our teeth into a moist and flavorful cupcake. When we walked inside there were only like 3, maybe 4, flavors of cupcakes to choose from and not many of each. My mother noticed the cupcakes were smaller than the ones previously offered by Cups and Cakes. I, too, noticed the difference. However, the biggest difference is the texture. They were not moist and they were slightly crumbly and dry. My husband can usually polish off 6 cupcakes in a few days. He only had one. We ended up pitching the rest, along with the rum cakes we had purchased. It was a total waste of money. Elysian Fields charges $4 per cupcake. Cups and Cakes had charged $3 per cupcake. When we were inside a staff member offered us a small shortbread to sample. I chose the Cherry Blossom. Thinking I am sinking my teeth into a shortbread cookie similar to a Walker's I was horrified when the taste of soap came to my palate. Then I thought it tasted more like the smell of my great grandmother's cheap dime store perfume. Either way, it was rancid. I could not wait to get back to the car and drink some water. That taste lingered in my mouth for at least 5 minutes. It was horrible. Who in their right mind would enjoy a shortbread that tastes like scented soap/perfume? The lady inside over emphasized that they are known for their shortbread and it was the store specialty. Yikes! I hope they reevaluate their serviceable obtainable market for scented shortbreads. Otherwise, it will be a vacant space again. This store would be better suited if it was in Old Town Scottsdale or Sedona. Sorry Elysian Fields, 2 thumbs down on your cupcakes, rum cakes, and shortbread. Don't be fooled by the 4.5 stars. Those stars were earned by Cups and Cakes. Elysian Fields should have created their own Yelp page when they opened for business. read more

I really wanted to love this place. The cupcakes looked lovely. The menu is non-traditional. I ordered a 4 pack variety of cupcakes. The vanilla was crumbly and dry, frosting was acceptable in flavor. The chocolate flavored cupcakes were so moist that they literally fell apart when I tried to remove the wrapper. You couldn't even hold them in your hand to eat them I had to place them on a plate for family to eat with a fork. My family of 3 each ate one cupcake and ended up throwing out the 4th one. We went to a few places in Mesa and Gilbert and tried their flavors but NO ONE compared to Cups and Cakes! Not only were the cupcakes to die for but the service was outstanding! Jason was beyond helpful and went above and beyond and made it so easy. Also, the cupcakes turned out gorgeous and everyone LOVED them! We will certainly be back for every occasion. This place makes their croissants not only with love, but also with the power of the Eiffel Tower. These taste like they were made in France by a guy who's got a rat in his hat (ratatouille reference, this place won't give you the plague, don't worry). What a beautiful store! Elysian Fields is decorated as though you are stepping into an art nouveau salon and the vibes are immaculate. Even their electronic menu fits the theme with little waltzing figures that flit across every once in a while. Their cases were full of beautiful pressed shortbread cookies in flavors like Orchid (vanilla), Orange Blossom, and Violet. The cinnamon rolls and muffins looked charmingly homemade and smelled wonderful! I purchased a box of shortbreads in various flavors and a tin of Datura candies for under $25! The Orchid shortbread that I ate on the way home was delicately flavored and the perfect melt-in-your mouth texture. The cashier was very friendly and answered all my questions, and when we were chatting about the music playing through the shop, two of the bakers popped out of the back room to join the conversation! I was only in the store for a few minutes but had a very pleasant experience. As a lover of historical food and the Edwardian/Victorian aesthetics, I drove all the way from Phoenix to check out this store. I was not disappointed! When looking at the case, there's nothing that jumps out at you or looks appetizing. For $3.25 each I would expect a full cupcake and icing that is more than half a bite before its gone! The taste is there; the cupcake is moist and the icing is sweet but there is lot missing in presentation and actual cake batter.
