I went here once because of my mother-in-law's recommendation. Once was all it took. I should have known better than to trust her taste buds.. Terrible service. The place was empty and the waitress, who clearly had a bad attitude and a chip on her shoulder, spent all her time chatting with the lady up front (a manager?). It was like pulling teeth to get her to even take our orders and then GETTING our orders was almost worse. After waiting nearly an hour we finally got our food and mine was cold, soggy and inedible. My husband's not much better. Being the doormat I am, we just decided to pay and go (in hindsight I really should have refused to pay since I didn't even get to eat..) and when we went up to the register the woman had the audacity to ask us how much GRATUITY we planned to leave! NOT how our service or food was, no apologies for the bad attitudes, dirty looks and lack of, but how much of a tip we planned to leave! I've never been so incensed! So I looked her in the face and said none. I've never seen a face contort with such hate at a customer before. Forget this place. A waste of time, money and energy. Eat somewhere GOOD and friendly--there are no shortage of better places in Salem or the surrounding area. And at least you won't have to hit up a McDonald's afterwards like we did. There are so many wonderful places to eat in Salem, why in the world anyone would go here..Just your everyday, standard chain restaurant. .I had a burger which was ok, no better than any other burger, but the hubby had 1/2 of sandwich which he said was the worst he'd ever eaten. I had a salad yesterday and it was the worst salad I have ever had at a any restaurant. The lettuce had black slimy spots and was just awful. Really awful salad. Never again. Ice cold restaurant on a rainy day and scrambled eggs chopped up into tiny pieces and cooked into rubber. The hostess' comment was, "Okay, you let them know next time you come in" and the white-haired waitress just said, "Okay, I'll tell them." I had ordered a side of 3 scrambled eggs and they were inedible, but of course I was charged for them anyway. Business must be bad if they're trying to save money by not heating the place and cutting corners by issuing you your 2 jam packets. I think I can see why. I have eaten at this Elmer's many times, but this was a stand-out bad experience. This is the second Elmer's in as many weeks that I have left disgusted. My husband and I were traveling from California to Portland and saw the sign for Elmer's and knew we had to stop for breakfast. I love their German Pancakes and their service is always friendly too. I was in a rush when we left and forgot my credit card. When I realized where I "lost" it I called and was told it was in the safe awaiting my call. They quickly put it in the mail to my home. Elmer's is our stopping place for breakfast or lunch between California and Washington. Dave had the Reuben and Fries. I tried a vegetarian skillet meal which was very good. Plenty of food, tasteful and Dave walked away with leftovers. Also, the service is ALWAYS excellent and friendly servers. read more

If I could give no stars I would. The food was not worth it, taste like a low budget Denny's which is disgusting!!! The coffee tasted dirty like they don't clean the coffee maker. The waitresses are extremely rude, talking badly about paying customers. My child has special needs and the whole time I was there they were making comments and faces. Went in for breakfast, while placing our order the waitress continued to make faces as if she did not approve of our food choices. We smiled and ordered and tried to ignore the rudeness. Ordered an omelet with hash browns, she didn't like that he wanted an English muffin instead of bread. I requested no fruit or potato side with my avocado Benedict & said I would instead like a side of bacon and would be happy to pay extra if there is a charge. She looked at me like I was crazy. Shook her head. Said "well I guess you can" and walked away throwing her hands up. Again, we ignored her and tried to enjoy our morning. When the food came the side of bacon was one single piece. On its own plate. What a joke! The eggs for the eggs Benedict were way over cooked. Avocado was no where near ripe. Tomatoes had no flavor. The omelet was decent with hot sauce on it. Our drinks were never refilled the entire time we were there. When the bill came they charged an extra $.99 for that single piece of bacon. We will not be returning here. The only reason we tried this place is it was on the way out of town and was not busy. Now we know why it wasn't busy and everywhere else was... two stars because it was technically edible and no one got sick. read more

When I was finished gambling she the asked me to PAY when I had winnings. Great place inside. There's Thomas Kinkade art hanging on the walls with unique vintage items above on shelving. They even have a good sized fireplace. I have been here for breakfast in the past and they have a good selection. There's a fireplace and a country vibe to the place. There's a lounge in the back where people used to be able to smoke. After a long day of driving I showed up at this Elmer's very close to closing. The staff was very welcoming and didn't make us feel like an inconvenience. Despite the late time we were treated well, the food was fresh tasting and our server was attentive while tending to her closing duties. I enjoyed the German Pancake with Marion Berry Syrup while my dining partner had the chowder and beef dip. This is a quick on and off for the I-5 and I will consider stopping here again. read more

me and my husband love this place. The food is always great and the wait staff are super. I enjoy this place because I am actually being served by adults and not 16 yrs old little girls who know nothing about service. When you are first seated the same little man always brings us our water and asks if we want coffee. Then our server is always prompt in coming over. We have never had to wait more than 10 minutes to get served. Folks have to remember this place is really busy on the weekends and those older gals are working their tails off and you won't see them standing around chit chatting like other places in town. They are serving HUGE parties at times so you just have to patient. If you like a retro type Aunt Mae's house look this place is for you. read more

At this Salem locale, I was rather uncomfortable from the get go. The hostess tried to seat me at a table and when I requested a booth she seemed a bit put out. On to the food, I ordered a cranberry mimosa which was pretty refreshing but kinda weak and pretty small for $7.95. For the meal I had potato pancakes which were stuffed with bacon and served with 2 slices of bacon and some scrambled eggs that I had them add cheese to, also a biscuit. The eggs were Eh, bacon meh, biscuit good but served with package jam, not homemade. The pancakes were decent and served with sour cream and applesauce which is traditional. Only problem was the amount of applesauce was the served in a tiny little paper cup, the kind you use for ketchup at a fast-food restaurant. This was a totally inadequate amount for the size of the pancakes, I would have asked for more but I figured if they were that cheap to begin with they would charge me for extra. Wasn't great applesauce anyway, jarred for sure. I spent $21 and change for this breakfast and I was just disappointed by the whole experience. Will definitely not come back. read more

I went to Elmers on Market Street in Salem Oregon, on Sunday at 10 am and brought my whole family from out of town with me. My family was talking about going to other restaurants but I convinced them to go to Elmers based upon the food I had there before. When my food arrived it was dry and over cooked. I don't know if the rest of my family enjoyed there meals since I believe they would not tell me out of respect for me. I did not want to returned the meal and be embarrassed in front of them since I had told them how good the food was. So I decided to consume it even though it was terrible. Since my family was in town I decided to wait to call Elmers the following day after my family left, to let them know about how bad my meal was. I first spoke to Melissa and she then transferred me to Lenny. Lenny was unreasonable about the whole situation and would not help me in any form of compensation, either a refund or a replacement meal. She told me I was being unreasonable about what happened and since I ate the meal that day there was nothing she could do for me. If this is the kind of food and customer service you can expect from Elmers on Market Street I don't recommend going at least to this one. I wanted 1 pancake instead of toast and the waitress said there would be a extra charge. My husband ordered a patty melt and wanted salad instead of fries said there would be an extra charge. I really love Elmer's! I took my family here for breakfast last weekend for the first time. It was a saturday and even though they were busy we didn't have to wait that long to get a table. Also, the waitress was really friendly and we had no problem getting our orders. The prices are a little high but totally worth it because the food is so GOOD! My son just loved the Big Foot breakfast and my daughter ate all her Cub Cake. I had the pancakes and they were AWESOME! I can't remember what my husband had but he was happy with his order. Horrible experience. My food was completely cold when I got it. The waitress was annoyed and insisted it couldn't be cold because she brought it to me right away, so she touched it with her hand to check. She then said she'd "nuke" it in the microwave for me. I objected since it was an omlette, as the eggs turn rubbery. She did it anyway and re-served me microwaved food that she had touched with her bare hand. I cut open the omlette and found the mushrooms were completely raw! They still made me pay for the meal and the cashier told me there was nothing he could do about it. I complained to their corporate office, and they said they'd send me a voucher for a free meal (as if I wanted to ever eat there again).
