Many people we know prefer to stick with tried-and-true restaurant choices, which we understand. My wife and I, however, usually like to explore something different. On this trip with family, we collectively decided to try this regional chain--and ended up returning the next morning as well. Elmer's has about 29 locations across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, and Arizona. We've been to one of their other locations before and thought it was just okay. We came in both Saturday and Sunday around 9 am. It was a little busy, but we were seated right away. The setup and menu style are similar to places like Denny's, Shari's, Black Bear, IHOP, or Perkins, with a strong focus on breakfast. They also offer lunch and dinner options. Their menu is available all day, allowing you to order breakfast, lunch, or dinner at any time the restaurant is open. Both mornings, our group of four was seated immediately, and each of us ordered breakfast dishes such as omelets and platters. The food came out promptly, and everyone enjoyed their meals both days. Service was attentive, and the overall experience was consistent. While this wouldn't necessarily be our first choice, we can see why Elmer's does well. It's reliable, comfortable, and delivers exactly what you'd expect.

I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding my experience at the Elmer's location in Salem, Oregon on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 09:00 AM. Prior to our visit, I called the restaurant on Thursday to inform staff that a party of nine would be coming in on Sunday to celebrate two birthdays. When I arrived with my group, I mentioned that I had called ahead and that someone had written down our party of nine. Instead of simply helping us get seated, the staff member at the front began lecturing me that the restaurant "does not take reservations." I was not trying to argue about reservations--I was simply explaining that I had called ahead as a courtesy. I asked that we just be seated for nine people, but the lecturing continued even after I repeated that I only wanted to be seated. Unfortunately, the experience became even more upsetting once we were ordering. Both my mother and I have had bariatric surgery. As many restaurants allow, we presented the medical card we carry from our doctor that explains we are allowed to order from the children's menu due to the strict portion limitations required after bariatric surgery. Despite showing this card to the waitress and explaining the situation, your manager denied our request to order from the kids' menu. This was extremely disappointing and frankly very inappropriate. The card clearly explains that this accommodation is medically necessary and recommended by our doctors. Denying it without consideration shows a lack of understanding and compassion toward customers with medical needs. Between being lectured at the door and then having a medically supported request denied, the overall experience was very frustrating and embarrassing in front of my entire party. This is not the level of hospitality or respect customers should expect when dining out. I hope you will take this complaint seriously, review how this situation was handled, and provide additional training to staff and management on how to properly address customer concerns and medical accommodations. If I could leave negative stars I would.

Absolutely excellent location for breakfast. Service was quick and friendly. Food came out quickly especially with how busy it was but was not lacking in quality. The German Pancake was worth the wait alone, hadn't had one before but would order it again in a heartbeat. Cinnamon roll pancakes were phenomenal, buttermilk biscuits were fluffy and delicious, as was the butter they came with. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection.

Food is okay. Hash browns are a little different, kind of like wide noodles. Wish it was a little cleaner building.

We always try to find good local spots along the way, and I'm so glad we decided to stop here because this place was SO good! There are plants everywhere, which I loved, and it just has such a welcoming feel to it. I got the steak and eggs and asked for my steak medium rare, and they cooked it perfectly! Honestly, probably one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. We also got the honey peach latte and had it made half sweet, and it was amazing. I'm also a sucker for fresh baked goods, so when I saw they had fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, I had to snag one for the road. Overall, we're really happy we decided to make this our stop. Everything was great from the food and coffee to the atmosphere and service. We're definitely saving this spot for the next time we're road tripping through the area. If you're passing through and need a breakfast stop, definitely give this place a try.

My dining partner ordered the vegan rice bowl and it was overrun with onions and had very little flavor. The desserts we got to go were good, but I paid almost $80 for lunch for two, one latte, and two desserts after tipping. I'll be back for a sweet, but not a meal.

None of the trendy hipster "coolness" that has come to rankle me in other popular coffee shops. I've had some delicious pastries and excellent drinks, including coffee and non-coffee specialties like their golden milk latte which is unique and amazing. Comfy space, high ceilings , exposed brick. My only feedback is that they serve their bagels to go with a cup of cream cheese and a sliced bagel. This is common, but I don't understand why anyone would want to spread cream cheese on their own bagel when they're on the road. It would be like ordering a sandwich and a stack of meat, cheese, lettuce, and bread and asked to assemble that while you're driving. That's literally my only complaint and it's a small one. I will be a Regular at this coffee shop, bagels be damned! lol.

There's normal tables, taller stools for window seating, and a few couch chairs too. The person that helped me at the counter was super helpful. There are lots of options with desserts, pastries, toast, bagels, sandwiches, soups, parfaits, and whole meals like biscuits and gravy. They have a good amount of vegan and gluten then friendly alternatives too. The prices were a steal for the portions I got -especially the toast and chia pudding. The coffee was also pretty good, nothing to write home about. I'll have to come back to try some of their bagels next time.
