Let me start out by saying I love Elmer's. Any Elmer's I've ever been too has incredible servers. Fast and proficient always with a smile. The food is also plentiful and yummy. The fish and chips are excellent, moist flavorful fish with crunchy crisp batter. Perfect fries and a nice thick tarter sauce with excellent flavor. Chicken tenders are moist, crunchy and come out steaming hot and fresh. Hash browns are thick cut, crunchy in the outside yet soft on the inside. Biscuits are to die for, warm, flaky and soft. Just got off the plane and heading to my nephew's, we stopped at this place to get some breakfast. Featuring a menu with Northwest type food sources, its a nice upgrade to my Elmers past visits. Waitress was really nice and pleasant. I had a standard bacon, eggs, toast (bacon was delicious!) and my sister went with an omelet. No complaints about the food, tasty and enjoyable. I had been coaxed here by a breakfast lover, once again. I do stick with the lunch menu, however, being the anti-breakfastie that I am. I usually get the grilled chicken sandwich, but lately they've changed it ever time I order it. It used to be a nice piece of chicken breast on a ciabatta bread, then it turned to what seemed like boiled chicken breast on a sad little bun. So, I tried the basic burger and added avacado to it. It seemed like it was a preformed discus of some sort, not bad, but not great, the sauce was barely noticeable, which was fine, it looked like a thousand island base? Overall it was just okay, Sizzler up the street has a good charbroiled tasting one, for less money. My burger was $8.95 and came with a small side of fries. Usually, at Elmer's they are constantly checking on you, but this waitress let us sit forever, running out of drinks, more than once. We were right by where they come out of the kitchen and we could see her just standing there talking to somebody, so we probably weren't the only ones being neglected. My husband got the Hungry Rancher special and it looked pretty good, from my anti-breakfastie perch. I could see 3 eggs, hashbrowns, ham, bacon and sausage, with a biscuit. He said it was pretty good. That is $9.99. Overall, not a bad place to eat in Gresham. They do offer desserts that are $2.49 and we split a strawberry sundae, which I expected to be pretty small but it was a full size version, covered in whipped cream and strawberry sauce with bits of strawberries in it. read more

Visited this place on a Saturday morning around 10:30. By the looks of the parking lot, I thought there would be a long wait time to get a seat but as we walked in, they gave us our pager and said it would be 10 minutes. I don't think it even took that long to be seated. Our coffees were served right away and it wasn't 20 minutes when our meal was brought. The meal was hot and in a clean presentation. So after my lackluster review, a few days later I was contacted by the Social Brand Manager for Elmers, who apologized for the poor service and quality of the food, also saying that my comments were passed on to the manager. I was also offered a complimentary meal for two, with beverages, if I wanted to come back. I seriously did debate accepting this, because I'm not hanging out looking for free stuff, but in the end, I opted to give it another go. Because honestly, every place can have a bad day, and there really aren't that many joints in Gresham, that I've noticed. So my girlfriend and I went back, to the same location, and I will say that I'm glad we gave it another shot. The service was marginally better, and I think that's just the way it is. They're not a busy, bustle and hustle place, I guess, more laid back. Not really what I look for in a restaurant that I'm not a regular at, but I guess that just shows that this particular place caters to a "family regular" style of business. Our order was taken quickly and since last time I didn't particularly enjoy my choice of the chicken fried steak, I went with the flatiron steak and eggs. Yes, I also noted that this was the most expensive item on the breakfast menu. What can I say; I'm a user. My girlfriend went with the same thing she did last time, eggs, bacon and pancakes. Our food came out very hot and quick, this time, though my soda refills were still a tad slow. I'll admit, I might be a little nitpicky on that, but only because I watched two waitresses circle the area and not stop by our table. But the morning we went, it was pretty busy, so I'm probably just being over sensitive. The steak itself was actually very tender and flavourful. I ordered it well done and it was cooked perfectly, with a very delicious steak butter over the top. The hashbrowns and eggs that came with it were very good, and the biscuit was a pretty decent biscuit. My girl enjoyed all of hers and agreed that the bit of steak she tried was very good. All in all, I've been to better places, but I have definitely been to worse. On further consideration, this is a pretty solid joint, though it would be nicer to have a little bit more of an attentive wait staff. The food, at least with breakfast, is standard fare, and what you see is what you get. Actually, though: the Northwest hash browns with Tillamook cheddar cheese mixed in with them should be the hashbrowns every restaurant is required to serve. What would make them better would be the addition of bacon pieces in it. Not necessarily good for your longevity, but good at the moment. read more

Used to love this place. A monthly visitor over the past 18 years. The food has gone severely downhill over the past 6 months. Last night was my final straw. Ordered the eggs benedict and husband ordered the Elmer's omelet. The ham on the eggs benedict was way different and wierd. It was about half the size of the muffin, super tough and kind of thick. Very hard to cut with a knife. Also the amount of hollandaise sauce on both items was very minimal. Husbands omelet had very little ingredients in it. The last 6 or 7 visits have been awful definately sad to say I wont be back. read more

Fairly pleasant experience. We came during the brunch hour on a Saturday and was seated within minutes. The hostess now stands at a podium somewhat behind the entrance door which scared me half to death since I didn't see her when she greeted us. They should consider moving it. Food was good. I got a sandwich and clam chowder. Sandwich was warm and fresh. Clam chowder was great! Boyfriend got a burger and fries. He said it was fairly good but the meat tasted somewhat odd. The portions of dipping sauces were huge. Service was okay. Our assigned server seemed distracted and didn't check on us much. But other servers did and a manager as well. Will return! read more

I've usually had good food at this particular restaurant until last night. My sister ordered grilled salmon and it was so dry and tough, it was inedible. I brought it home for my cats. When paying, the young hostess asked how our meal was. I said, well since you asked, the salmon was over-cooked, tough, and just didn't taste right. Spoke to the manager who was sorry about it but if you know there is a big party then you have to help in that area where that server is struggling. I was shocked by the rude treatment! I went in to order soup to go and was informed they do not serve to go. The host was not friendly about it at all. So, I said then I will sit down order and then ask for it boxed and would that be ok. She responded with something but cannot remember exactly what but reluctantly brought me to a table. Then another woman came up and very rudely said they cannot serve me since they know my intention of ordering to go. I even asked if I took a bite and did not finish and asked for it boxed up would she but she said no they will not serve me at all. I asked why and she explained that the company policy changed during the pandemic to not have to go orders that it became too complicated (too many and too many complaints). Not her exact words but something like this. I said, so people are not allowed to take their leftovers home? And she replied again with but we know what you want so we will not serve you. I could not believe it. She was extremely rude and that Elmer's refused to serve me was incredible. I was just trying to get soup for my bf who was home sick. Fine that is their policy but to refuse service when I was willing to sit down and be rude was not ok. The second woman took my menu and walked away from me so I left. I have always considered Elmer's to be the best of the traditional family-style chain restaurants, and my visit today to their location in Gresham reinforced that thought. Pleasant atmosphere, clean and tidy, friendly service, good food. . .it was all there! I ordered Bacon & Tillamook Cheddar Potato Pancakes and Eggs. Even though it was late afternoon, their breakfasts are available all day, which is great. The potato pancakes were grilled nice and brown, just the way I like it. They also came with applesauce (I feel that applesauce is a "requirement" with potato pancakes), two eggs, and choice of ham, sausage, or bacon. My meal was delicious, just as I expected. read more

french toast.the best ive tasted in a long time. the waitress Erica very very professionall always checked if i need a drink refill or if i needed anything 5th coming to Elmers and they do not dissapoint. resturant its self has its cozy warm feeling once you enter for me a welcoming like that already you know the food will be good. they have two french toast entrees that are really really good regular french toast and strawberry french toast. love this place my go to regular french toast with scrambled eggs and hashbrown with a glass of cold orange juice cant go wrong with that.very filling for a good price too. read more

I am sorry to report that the food and service on 1/1/2017 was exceedingly terrible. Not only was the food undercooked and cold, but took over an hour to come out after ordering. You'd think that such a wait would be due to the restaurant being busy, but that was certainly not the case. We were seated immediately, and less than half of the tables were occupied. It took quite some time for the server to take our order, no one brought us any water, and it was only that an hour had passed that I got up to find someone, flag down a server and ask about our order. A few minutes after that it finally arrived. The eggs were undercooked and stone cold, muffins in the Eggs Benedict were soggy, and the hash browns were hard. What made it more frustrating is that in the hour that we waited for the food, no one came to check on us. When I complained about the undercooked and cold food, we were told the cook was new and learning, and that the reason it took so long is because of the poached eggs on the Eggs Benedict took a long time to cook.... I informed the server that it takes 3 minutes to poach an egg and she just shrugged. Now in any other instance I would have walked out, but I had three hungry children with me, and didn't want to go somewhere else and have to wait even longer. I am sorely disappointed in Elmer's and it pained me to pay almost 40 dollars for such a bad meal and experience. I had been there a couple times in the past - probably over 3 years ago or more - and recall it being pretty good . What happened? My experience on New Years Day was truly one of the worst restaurant experiences in my life. I do hope that the Gresham Elmer's gets its act back together. read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner. We have never eaten here so not really sure what to expect. It was rated as a 1$ and there were some good reviews, so why not try!? Well, the food was really bad. Maybe an off night but some of the things we did not like are probably a constant here. Things like the vegetables being (soaked) in some fake margarine type spread. Artificial butter, really? It was really greasy and tasted like the fake stuff that they put on popcorn. My fish was badly overcooked and dry. My husbands food was no better. The price was not what I would rate a 1$. We paid $23 for two of us. I drank water and he had a cup of coffee. Nothing but the two meals were ordered. The wait staff were nice and on the ball. No issues there at all. It seemed funny, when we walked in they were already waiting for us with 2 menus in hand! Very polite and all that. read more

We stopped here on our way out of Portland on a Sunday morning. It was packed, and we heard that they were short staffed wait-staff wise and in the kitchen. Despite this, we got some great service. The wait wasn't more than 15 minutes to get in. Through our meal, multiple staff members checked on us for water refills, coffee refills, and to see if we needed anything in general. The food hit the spot, I had a farmers omelette with loaded hash browns. I would recommend the farmers omelette, but maybe not the loaded hash browns. The omelette was cooked perfectly, with some leftover gravy that I used for the biscuit. Just enough veggies and meats on the inside too! My hash browns were overcooked, with some parts of it completely charred. However, my friends ordered plain hash browns and they came out perfectly, so it could have just been the ingredients in the loaded hash browns that caused issues (green onions, bacon, sour cream, etc). When we went to get our check, we asked for it to be split, and it was not. They were busy, and it was understandable, but we did make it clear what our intentions were. Hence why they're missing one star. Overall, a great experience. If I find myself in the area again, I would certainly return for breakfast! read more
