We sat at the bar and Katlin took good care of us. She told us all about the pub and the various activities they have. There's live music on Fridays, but as yet, no Celtic music. Maybe in the future. Monday is music bingo, Wednesday is Trivia night. Thursday is karaoke night. They have plans in the future for Saturday nights. The customers were very friendly and polite. Many seem to know each other. A man showed up and was loudly greeted by his friends. This appears to be a Cheers type of pub where everyone knows your name and they're very glad you came. O'Brien's has a small menu of bar food. The cook didn't come in today, but Katlin was able to cook us up some dynamite wings. I know that people have really strong feelings about this place one way or the other so I'm just gonna be brave about this and charge on. It had been several years since I actually had ate here, and my husband had never been, so we made a date of it! As as soon as you walk in the door, you know you're at someplace special. The interior of this restaurant immediately transports you to that green island across the sea. We started our evening with appetizers, one from their OktoberFest menu (the sausage balls) and another from their regular menu (the goat and cream cheese plate). The sausage balls are flavorful and filled with sausage, cabbage, and cheese. It's fried almost like an arancini and they serve three of them with a sauce that neither of us could quite identify, but I'm sure it was on the menu description. I am not a big fan of cabbage, even if it is something that you can't really taste it in so this wasn't my personal favorite. My husband said it needed just a little bit more seasoning, but it was otherwise delicious. Out of the two, my favorite was the goat cheese which was served with a toasted bread. For our mains, I got the classic Guinness steak pie with the brown gravy, and my husband got the fish and chips. Hands-down, you cannot beat this steak pie! The crust was delicious, the filling was seasoned just right and the brown gravy around it was just perfection. For the side I switched out the seasoned vegetables for the green beans. The green beans were still crunchy in a good way, and seasoned with salt pepper and a little bit of garlic. This is brought out in a shareable size and paired well with the hardiness of the steak pie. My husband's fish and chips were unfortunately a little lackluster. For our personal taste, the batter was just a bit too cakey and was really dark. The potato wedges that were served with it were decent. Though for our personal taste, I wish that they had been dropped a little bit longer in the fryer. They have an in-house tartar sauce that they put olives in. If you're like my husband, you might want to steer clear and just grab the malt vinegar or ketchup instead. It wasn't bad, he just doesn't like olives.‍ Our server was really kind and attentive, even though he was running about half of the tables in the restaurant! We definitely will be back to try more of the menu and plan to bring family in as they enjoy an Irish pub scene as well. I'm giving them a 4 star review because I can't give them a 3.5. and I like to round up.
