She was delighted with them and over the moon happy with the end result... I then called them and set up an appt. to have rep. come and explain what would be needed and provided.... Kathy (the wonderful person who set up our appt. ) was awesome, patient, kind, ultra professional and "light hearted..." Superior interpersonal communication skills.. As a small business owner, I appreciate excellent customer care. The sales rep came over who was also super professional, mindful and articulated the process and what was needed in basic terms for me to wrap my head around (I'm not very domesticated!!!)... I set up the appt. for installation and just two weeks prior to moving forward with the installation, I had to cancel the install due to the owner of the home going into a group home (I'm the Trustee and guardian).. I could not move forward if my ward is placed in a group home prior to installation... All of that said, I called Kathy and explained the situation and she was so kind, empathetic and completely understanding of "life happening..." as inconvenient as life can be and getting in the way of our plans, "stuff" happens... Kathy was awesome about it and authentically concerned... I'm disappointed that I could not move forward with Elm because they seem so "superior" to other co.'s and "master plumbers" that came into the home to quote a ductless unit... My client's AC/heating unit works amazingly well and I'm sure mine would have also....My experience leading up to installation was fabulous... Highly recommend..... read more

poor customer service I am sharing my frustrating and disappointing experience with Elm Air Conditioning in Freeport, NY, to warn others. When my split system stopped working, I scheduled a service appointment with Elm. The technician who came to the house was great. When I asked him how much the repair would cost (as I did not have the original paperwork from when the system was installed prior to us purchasing the home), he explicitly assured me three times that it was covered under warranty. Later that afternoon, I received a call from their office asking if I had the warranty paperwork. I explained that I did not, and the representative stated they would speak with the technician and call me back the next morning. The following morning, a representative named Michael called and confirmed that the repair would indeed be covered under warranty. I asked him multiple times to verify this, and he repeatedly said yes, explaining that they were submitting a request for the part to avoid price gouging. Later that same evening, Michael called back to completely reverse the statement, claiming the repair was not covered and would cost $1,395 plus labor and tax. When I asked why I had been repeatedly told it was under warranty, he denied that it was ever said. At that point, all I wanted and expected was a simple apology for the misinformation, which they refused to provide. The next day, I called to speak with the service manager, Scott. Instead, Michael called me back to inform me that my concerns regarding the warranty and the timeframe for the part to arrive "were not worth Scott's time." Needless to say, I called another company for the repair--which came in significantly cheaper. Bizarrely, days later I received another call from Elm asking if I wanted to proceed with their repair. When I explained why I canceled, the representative tried to cover for management, claiming Scott probably meant the repair wasn't worth doing, rather than that I wasn't worth speaking to--all while still trying to sell me the service. The lack of accountability, poor communication, and unprofessional treatment of customers are appalling. I highly suggest looking elsewhere for your HVAC needs. read more

Freezing all my angers in the past today I am here to write a review about this company after receiving a SHOCKING RUDE CALL at my work for a miss payment FROM SCOTT O this morning ! Seeing all good reviews, really ??? Newly installed HVAC system in 2023 for the first time. They installed the system, they never admit their faults, they are always RIGHT. MY direct contact us Mr. Scott Oest, he used to have routine confrontation with my Contractor during installation, I had to take day off to stay there to avoid any potential confrontations. We provided signed contracts and all necessary documents to run our credits and send them by mail as per their instruction which they lost it and we came to know after the installation, Scott O was very rude to us and blaming us instead. I have all email threads as Witness. We are new with HVAC, none of their officials technicians guided us about the usage. On the very first service which is not more than couple of months after installation their Technician removed the filter as my son was complaining there were not much heat [ during winter time ] and left it open without filter, from my other relatives we came to know we need to put filter on the ceiling and we did that after learning. Since they lost our document we have to pay of 38K within 2 years, still 4 months left, we never miss any payment, they want us to mail the check which is very old method, they do not have any AUTO PAYMENT system available, today SCOTT called me he missed the AUGUST payment, I personally mailed the check on 28th and did not receive any return mail which is very normal, however my wife checked in the bank and it was not cleared, it could happen by USPS not by us. Couple of times I received their mail next month but we mailed our check without any invoice number so that they could deposit our check on time. This SCOTT O is A CLASS RUDE. They do not know what does it mean by CUSTOMER SERVICE ! They do not admit their faults, always try to put on you. They put two VENTS in my living room, next to each other living other side without VENT, is it call PROFESSIONALISM ? I want ELM AIR provide me a new CONTACT PERSON instead this RUDE SCOTT O. He is always on a RUSH for something and are we seating IDLE ! I kept informing him I am at work in my office, he kept playing his LOUD RADIO. You better use AUTO PAYMENT system, wake up it is 2025. I've been doing business with Elm for nearly 35 years and have had them install systems in 3 homes as well as referred many new customers to them. But they are not the excellent family run business they previously were. The owner Scott Oest who I've had a relationship with for all those years is no longer the owner do I assume they've been bought out by some larger enterprise thereby ruining all the best things about the company. I have 2 homes that I've had annual maintenance contracts with for decades but when they sent me the new contracts, the price is 20% higher and the service provided is less. I proceeded to make appointments for service provided by the contracts from 2025 and they subsequently cancelled one which had to be rescheduled and I had an appointment for today from 8-12 and when I called them at 12:40, I was told that I cancelled the appointment which I did not do. I was also told that they sent me a text confirming the cancellation which they did not. I requested that Scott Oest call me as we've had a decades long relationship. I received multiple calls from them telling me that Scott would not be calling me because while he no longer owns the company, he now runs sales. I told Michael that I don't care what he runs but I just want to talk to him. They told me that he will not be calling me, so now I will no longer be doing business with them. It's a disgrace but all good things come to an end!! read more

Despite having used this company for decades, I would never recommend them to anyone. We recently discovered that they had done substandard work on a large job at our home in Rockville Centre in 2019. We only discovered this while in the process of selling the house in 2025. Elm had never completed having the village sign off on a required permit. The electrician, who Scott Oest, Elm's owner, recommended to us to tell us how to proceed, informed us the work Elm had done would NEVER have passed inspection, and to do so required extensive electrical upgrades for which the bill was $1,900. Despite our signed contract with Elm stating tht the scope of work included " all necessary electrical wiring for the unit from the existing eletrical panel..", Elm refused to honor the terms of the contract and would pay only 1/2 of the electrician bill. This company installed the orginal central air conditioning system in our home in 1969 which our Dad arranged. We used then faithfully for decades never questioning their advice and always paying their service bills promptly in full. We were very disappointed by this recent experience. read more

The problem with this company is that they are NEVER wrong. When Scott O calls basically customers should get ready for long college lessons as of why they are NEVER wrong even with a brand new compressor replacement (original brand new failed after two weeks of used) and a wire that they never installed and that caused my smart thermostat doesn't work properly. With his lecture like tones, I have never seen my husband got this mad because he is the most calm person I know. Last time I checked we are the customer but he is expecting customers should grab a cup of coffee and listen to all his lectures and how his company is perfect! You are too full of yourself Scott. We have used Elm for over 25 years. Just had our spring tune-up done by Bryan. Here was here within the time frame promised. Like all Elm techs, he was friendly and efficient. He thoroughly checked the air handler in our attic and the compressor outside. Use Elm and pay for the service contract. Great company. read more

Have dealt with this company for over 18 years ago when they installed my first central air system,which finally died,so today they replaced it. The crew was lead by a young man named Quan,who was courteous,professional and did a wonderful job. He was assisted by several other young techs,installers and electricians,and they all did a wonderful job. My new system seems quieter,works faster, and am sure it will outlive me,this time.....I just turned 80. 30 years ago, during a major home renovation, the A/C installer tried to excuse the weak A/C by blaming the hot day. My parents had used Elm, without problems, so we called them. The rep thought that the cause was a misfit in the ducts. He explained that he couldn't guarantee the results before doing the repair. We did the repair...and had working A/C. When we decided to install a heat pump, we were pleased to find Elm on the recommended list. We were not disappointed. The crew was impressive, careful, and so quiet we weren't sure when they took their lunch break. They were polite, checked with us before moving objects and installing thermostats. JR, the team leader, displayed incredible patience in explaining the works to us non-techies...again...and again. We've experienced and heard about work crews who descend on a property like a stampede, blasting radios, and breaking things. Oh, and wherever they worked was left cleaner than when they arrived. Our only disappointment is that they do only HVAC! It's rare when we can immediately check a project off our to-do list. read more

Just got my central AC replaced. Scott was professional from start to finish. Quote was transparent with different options presented. Scheduled and then confirmed install date and showed up on time. Full system install in 4 hours. Workers were professional and cleaned up after the job was done. System is working as expected and no issues. read more

Was told my split air conditioner fan was dirty and not moving enough air.When the curtains on the other side of the room are moving and it wasn't even on high.So I remove the fan and cleaned the evaporator core it wasn't That dirty at all.This pictures from the core in an already dirty bucket. So they just want to get a service call to tell you it's dirty so you can make another service call so they can come back and clean something that wasn't the problem. Elm Air Conditioning has been my provider for A/C service for years. Each time a technician arrives at the house, the work is carefully explained to me and completed thoroughly and professionally. This year my technician was Boris who took the time to show me things I could do myself throughout the season to keep the unit running well. The technicians are all very knowledgeable and can explain what needs to be done to me so that I understand what will be done and what I can/need to do to keep the system in good repair throughout the season. The office staff is also very good to deal with - they listen to my descriptions when there are problems and make every effort to schedule the service quickly and conveniently. From the beginning, the communication between us and the office was not well. Fist diagnostics was charged. (union labor charge) second technician came to installed the damaged parts, but found out it was not working. And third, technician came again and swear it was fixed, but again. I was not fixed. We received all 3 invoices and 2nd invoice was paid onsite. We have contact office numerous time from us as the problem was not fixed. But most of the time we were told, you have to speak with manager but he is not there, or he will call you later. but we never got call back. We wrote all the details of incidents on letter and mailed to the company. Finally, Manager called my husband and disputed all pending invoices although being good customer, we have paid the diagnostics charges as well. I called other company on same issue to fix the problem. They came and within 15 min they totally fixed the problem and the charge was way less than 1st invoice of Elm. Now, it is about 3 month later, ELM is sending me PAST DUE invoices. It seems like the First customer credit which was "supposedly" applied to 1st invoice. Enough is enough. No other customer should experience that we have experienced. read more

They came yesterday for a so called service call. They did not service anything. He literally opened the air conditioner. He did not touch anything and said it needed a cleaning. Now mind you My husband cleaned the filters last week so we know that was not the problem. So I then said we'll are you going to service it today? And he said no we have to make another appointment for him to come back. This transaction only took 5 minutes. We were charged $140.13 for literally 5 minutes and then we would have to pay them again for another visit. The man had a terrible attitude from the time he walked in my home until he left. We later found out he was the general manager. We will never do business with this company again. read more

STOP! Don't call them if you know what's good for you!!!! This company is the absolute worst. Let's go down the list of offenses: 1. Showing up late at night for a call they were supposed to have been at earlier in the day. To add insult to injury, they got mad at us, the customer, when we weren't there. Not so much as a phone call to say they were going to be late. Then they wouldn't reschedule for another few days. Yeah, forget that we have young children in the house and they forced us to live in sweltering heat.. despite our service contract. 2. Fake service. Again and again they've shown up for a call and claimed they couldn't fix it that day and returned over and over again until finally it was "fixed", only to break down soon after. 3. Driving a service truck across my grass at night to get to the system in order to shine their headlights on it for illumination. Ruined my lawn! 4. When they re-did the air system in my attic, their people trampled across all of the wires rendering our security system inoperable. 5. Argumentative, belligerent, and hostile owner. His assistants in the office emulate his behavior. I could go on and on, but you get the point. This review isn't an anomaly. Just look at all the others below. My daughter purchased a 100 year old wood frame colonial with an ancient steam system for heat. We called Elm and Scott came and proposed a new high efficiency Mitsubishi system for both heat and central AC that eliminated the steam completely and replaced it with a fully ducted system, super quiet and efficient system. The installation was done cleanly and quickly - there was a delay in getting started due to ongoing Covid restrictions and equipment supply delays, but that was to be expected. The installation qualified for significant LIPA rebates and ELM filed all the appropriate paper work for permits and the rebates. The system is fully electric, and with the cold winter is keeping the house very comfortable. The electric bills so far are showing significant savings over what the steam system would have cost to run, and each room has it's own registers keeping the heat even throughout the house. In addition, the bulky steam radiators and boiler and large pipes are all gone. We haven't tested the AC yet - that will come in a few months, but I have no doubt it will function great. Highly recommend ELM and also recommend their high efficiency Mitsubishi systems for heating and AC. read more

ELM installed our central a/c many years ago. They performed a Spring Checkup on March 17, 2022 and concluded everything working ok at that time. We turned the a/c on May 22 but it would not operate. We called ELM and left messages three times from May 22nd to May 23rd and have not yet received a return call as of this writing. I tried contacting ELM thru their online contact page but that does not work. If they are out of business not returning our calls is understandable... if not, it's unprofessional. read more

So far not so good. My service call got rescheduled 2 times and my AC isn't working as it should to begin with and they wanted to reschedule me after Memorial Day. They offer no compensation at all especially if I am purposely missing work because of this twice already. Now a third time. Again, so far, not so good service at all. Waited all day for afternoon appointment for yearly ac check. Finally showed up at 6pm, no phone call. Technician argued about wearing a mask. After serving my mom's house for over 50 years, they did not bring a big enough ladder to access the attic. This should be in the records. Had to reschedule for another day after wasting a day. When I called to reschedule, the receptionist was argumentative, and not at all apologetic. Rescheduled and waited for second appointment. Then got a call that appointment was cancelled as tech called in sick. Again service person was nasty on phone, blaming us for not knowing how to use the AC. read more

You can add my house to the other reviewers who had their ceilings ruined by Elm. Long story short, they improperly installed the air handler for the central a/c in the attic. Three cracked primary pans and two ruined ceilings later, we are now having their air handler removed after only nine years of service and replaced by a new one from another company. And Elm can't blame anyone but themselves for this. They installed it and up until this year, they maintained it. At least, that's what we paid them to do. We fired them at the end of last summer. Oh, and the people who complained are spot on about how rude this company is. One of their managers got very nasty with my wife last summer when we complained that they had ruined our ceiling a second time. And here's a real topper. We filed an insurance claim to recoup some of what we spent. When our insurance company contacted Elm to see about getting our deductible reimbursed, Elm claimed to them that they don't have insurance. What??? How is that even permitted. If that's true, they should never be allowed to operate anywhere. Please spare yourselves and your house from this company. If Yelp had existed when we were looking to install our central a/c and we saw these reviews, we would never have hired them. read more

I hired Elm Air Conditioning to install a Mitsubishi Ductless Split A/C system in my home. I called and arranged for an estimate. Scott arrived exactly at the time promised. (very rare with contractors these days) He gladly answered my questions and sent me a quote within a few hours via email. I had a few additional questions on the equipment and the specs, which were answered quickly and accurately. After several other estimates from other companies, and others who never showed or never sent an estimate, I went with Elm. I am very glad that i did. The installers arrives on time and were very polite. The team of Quan, Brian and Al were obviously experienced and explained everything to me. They were meticulous, professional and personable. The central air in my house was not cooling down all the rooms evenly. I had another company come out and tell me my system was old and would likely need to be replaced. They left without checking the ductwork and told me they'd send someone back the next day. Fast forward 3 weeks later and despite assurances and multiple appointments, no one ever came back. Based off the recommendation of a neighbor I called Elm. They made an appointment for 8am to 1pm the next day. At 10 am the technician appeared. He quickly diagnosed that a duct was detached from one room's vent and simply reattached it. There was another vent that was closed and he opened it. Within minutes the house dropped 2 degrees and has continued to maintain a cool temperature in all the rooms. He took a look at the system and said it was not old at all, and in very good condition. I was expecting a potential large bill but it was only the cost of the service call. The technician was extremely professional, efficient and friendly. Will not hesitate to use them again. read more

If I could give a below one rating I would. The office manager hung up on me twice actually three times when i asked to speak with the owner. My AC is 11 months old and i have a contract. It has been broken for 5 days and no one comes to fix it even though i told them i have my 89 year old mother and young grandchildren here. It is less. then a year old. they should have come immediately. The service man came and although he was polite, he went into my two yr old twins room to get into the attic without a mask on. He walked through my home without a mask. He now tells me the part has to be ordered and was faulty and the office would call. Worst company I have ever dealt with! I called them in early June to look at my upstairs AC unit which wasn't working. I was charged $180 for that service call where the tech told me he couldn't do anything and had to come back to identify the specific problem. It took another visit, 17 days later, for the tech to come back and identify the leak on the upstairs unit. He told me I needed to call the company for an estimate for a repair. The next day I realize my downstairs unit wasn't working anymore. I panicked and called them to find out why when it was working fine the day before and now all of a sudden it was broken also. (Mind you the downstairs unit was only 2 years old so should have been fine and was fine until the tech came). They told me that the tech didn't touch but would send someone the next day. That night I realized he had unplugged the power source to the unit and didn't plug it back it. I tried to call and cancel the appointment but the tech showed up anyway. He said that I wouldn't be charged for that visit and that the first tech was incorrect and I most likely needed to replace the whole upstairs unit. I called for a quote and spoke to the owner Bill. He told me it would only be $3500 to replace the unit. He was trying to sell me an older model that if something broke I wouldn't be able to repair because they don't make the parts for it. I attempted to call 3 times and got no return phone calls. Two months later I receive a bill for almost $600 for "work" that was done. I will admit I was angry on the phone because this was since June but the owner began to yell at me and said "I'll see you in Hempstead." When I asked him what he meant, he said, "I'll just sue you, it's so much more fun to take people like you to court." I ended up paying because he had my home address and just threatened me. By far one of the wort companies out there! They truly rip people off. They charge $99.00 PER HALF HOUR and don't get the problem fixed in one day. So far I was billed over $800.00 from this compAny and my air condition still does not work. They now want to come back a third time to do more testing to see if they can fix the problem. I asked the technician why he can't do all the testing in one day and he said it is not done that way. I am now down $800.00 and still no a/c. Elm installed ductless air conditioners/heating units. They were flawless. The split units are great-- quiet, efficient and nice looking. Elm gave us a contract and all was covered. They helped us to get local permits and everything went smoothly and on time. Elm recommend a house doctor who works with them to close up the old opening and make all repairs inside and on the exterior of the house so that there's no trace of the prior wall air conditioners. It is such an improvement over the ugly, noisy prior units. read more

I have been a loyal customer of ELM Air Conditioning for over 25 years; having purchased 2 Central Air systems over the years. In addition, each year I renew my Annual Service Contract with them. The Customer Service has significantly declined over the past few years. In May of this year, the fan blade on my outside Central Air Unit broke and I called ELM and scheduled a Service Appointment and was told it would be an early afternoon appointment. The technician came and told me i needed a new Blade and this would need to be ordered. The Service Manager, Bill called and told me it would be up 5 to 7 days to get the blade from the manufacturer meaning we would be without Air Conditioning for up to a week. I then pulled out my Elm Service Contract and obtained my model and serial number and googled the company that makes my unit. I called the manufacturer in Oklahoma and inquired about the part that I needed and they indicated that the part is available. I told them ELM told me it would be up to a week to get the part. The woman on the phone told me that is Not the case and the part could be sent overnight. I then called Bill; the Service Manager and told him the part is available. He told me he would inquire and call me back. After receiving no call back from Bill for over 4 hours, I called back and he told me that the part will be available tomorrow and they would schedule a service appointment for tomorrow. I awaited a call back from ELM the next morning which never occurred. I then called and was told they would be there early afternoon. At 4:30PM, I called and inquired about the status of the technician and was told very rudely that I would have to wait and to stop calling. Dimitri arrived at 615 and the made the repair. My experience with ELM this week has been Horrific and no longer would recommend them; and urge anyone thinking of using them to Go With Another Company. On Monday night of this week; my Central Air System malfunctioned with the fan on the outside unit not working. Immediately, I called the company and got the answering service. ELM is the only AIR conditioning Company that has its Customer Service phones open from 9 to 5; and some of the time the calls go the answering service even after the website says open at 9am. After not receiving a call back; I put in another call and finally got a call back . I was told that they are Doing Me A Favor(after being a customer for 25 years) and would put me on the schedule. I then asked approximately what time and was told again that they are doing me a favor and it would be after 12 Noon. I was told the technician will call me before the call. I received a call at 4:15 PM and Brian the technician arrived at my house. I explained the problem and Brian spent about 15 minutes at my house, and changed one of the parts, I asked Brian about the Fan motor which was my suggestion as the source of the problem and he told me the fan was functioning. Less than 10 minutes after Brian left my House the fan unit stopped again. I then called ELM and got the answering Service. I left a message with the problem at 5:30PM. I got no call back the next morning so I assumed I would be put first thing on the schedule in the morning since my issue was not fixed. I finally got a call back and told that they are doing me a favor and would squeeze me into the schedule again. Brian cane again at 8PM and as I previously thought it was the fan motor and in addition, I needed a new thermostat. He took the model information for the Fan order and was told I would receive a call back first thing Thursday morning to schedule the fan replacement. No call back all day Thursday and we had no AIR Conditioning for over 3 days(on the hottest days of the summer) thus far. Finally received a callback today Friday and I told them ARE YOU KIDDING? I hired another local company who came Thursday morning and by early Thursday afternoon; the repair was done with the new motor and my system was up and running. They were courteous, prompt and quickly addressed the issue the SAME DAY. ELM's owner told my wife that We Are Not the Only Customer; and that me and my wife have been harassing their staff with constant calls. He was extremely nasty on the phone. The staff that answers the phone are rude and very condescending. A complete lack of empathy for the customer. They have some very nice technicians; Brian and Dimitri who I am surprised stay with a company like this. ELM has lost my Business after 25 loyal years. Do NOT use this company!! Where should we start? With the nasty lady on the phone or the robbery of 300 dollars an hour in labor. The service at the house took 2 hours as we have him on camera showing up at 9:17 and going to his van at 11:18. He sat in his van for a half hour and left. I get a bill for 2.5 hours of labor for 672 dollars. When I call to question how they get more money per hour then a doctor number one and why he charged me to sit his van for a half hour the nasty lady on the phone proceeded to tel me that he wrote up the report and I'm charged for that. I said you mean to tell me it took him 30 mins to write up a bill for cleaning to units? She said well you don't know what he did while he was in there. I said neither do you that's the point. This company is a bunch of crook because they know they got you and show no mercy. They don't even do it with kindness. Do yourself a favor call around before you use them. This is the worst AC company going. Had svc. contract. Almost 2 weeks to respond in 90 degree heat. Fat POS manager is rude with every call to him Then takes part and is still rude about when job getting completed. After I report him to BBB he cancels contract because of report and blames that on my wife yelling at him. Got 480 bucks out of him in small claims and plus I got my svc contract money back from Visa almost another 400 bucks. Prob would have got a few hundred more but I made him go to court three times and I wasn't there. A little of his own med! They had counter suit for that but was worth it. His lawyer is a real joke His defense is he smiles and shakes his head when you testify with the truth. Should be glad he wasn't defending for a crime cause he would do time. I had a contract with Elm for years recommended them to many people. Omg never ever again. My moms house ( recently deceased) is rented to a couple who is expecting in one month. She took off from work waited all day called twice the guy came after 5 and said he can't test for anything I don't have authority and will have to come back.my husband who was there at the time said to him why did you even come then he hands a bill $130 --what a SCAM. I called office right away Got the service she said I'll have them Call first thing in the morning. Now It's 4 days later never got a call. And the rudeness of the technician to look at an 8 month pregnant woman and do nothing in 80 degree weather is just plain awful. Please think twice before you use them. You can't depend on Elm air conditioning for service... they give you 5 minutes heads up time and If you are not home by then they leave. They don't leave you a number to communicate with And the only place you'll reach on the weekends is their service number. If you have any kind of a health condition that requires you to need air-conditioning, Elm air-conditioning is NOT the company for you. Their systems break down frequently and their workers either don't know how to fix them or simply don't care. Hence, multiple service calls for the same problem.They are very expensive, They charge by the minute and they hang out longer than they need to so they can overcharge for service calls . The repair people are unprofessional and terrible communicators. They don't care about customer service. All they care about is selling you the product and over charging for service calls. read more

Our air conditioning stopped working earlier this week. Elm came to my rescue on short notice. Kevin the technician arrived wed morning at my house with a smile despite the fact that he was working on July 4. He diagnosed the problem quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately I needed a part but Kevin was very reassuring that it would be fixed. The office at elm assisted in getting the part in a day and Kevin was back at my house yesterday. Although he arrived late in the day on a Friday he stayed until it was up and running again. I would highly recommend Kevin and elm air conditioning. read more
