This man is a disgrace to Medicine.
I have NEVER had such a horrible experience as I have with "Dr." (And I use this term as loosely as possible) Ellison.
To explain my story without going completely off the handle - Mr. Ellison came into the office (mind you this was my first visit ever), and says as he walks through the door:
"You have Eczema".
I looked at him and said, "Excuse me?".
"You have Eczema - I recommend we start you on some creams . . . blah blah blah"
"And you know this how? You haven't even examined me!", I said.
Mr. Ellison goes on to yell at me for questioning his 40+ years of experience as a "renouned" dermatologist (exact words), and tells me that Dermatology practice is very much purely visual, and that he knows just by looking at someone and finding a spot on them, what the diagnosis is . . . I begged to differ (and still do) and told him of my zero history of skin problems as a 24 year old man and that it seems odd to me that I would suddenly have developed Eczema and without proper examination, it's ridiculous to even accept such a diagnosis - especially since I had been in the exam room with him for not yet 3 minutes. He then continues to yell - literally, yell at me for even daring to question him. He then provoked me by saying "You think I'm wrong, huh? You think I'm wrong? What is it you want me to do to determine you wrong in this situation?"
I looked at him and said, "I don't know Dr. Ellison, you're the doctor and you're the one who should be offering up these solutions and examinations - after all that's what I pay you to do, not sit here and try and PROVE me wrong". He literally then said "Fine, you want me to cut a piece of skin off you (a biopsy) and send it to the lab, that's what I'll do". He then grabs a wipe, wipes my neck, reaches over and grabs some utensil and takes a chunk out of my neck and walks out of the room and yells at the assistant to stitch it closed. Meanwhile, my neck bleeds onto my shirt and I'm sitting in utter shock of the treatment I just got.
Dr. Ellison never re-enters the office, but gives me a prescription for some steroid gel called Fluocinonide and I'm presented with this from the assitant.
I leave feeling slighted and had the nerve to file a harassment/malpractice suit against him and wished to hell that I had a voice recorder or something turned on - it was literally one of those experiences that you can't believe is happening while it's happening and aferwards, you are literally bamboozled by it all. As I walk from Davie medical center - I see Dr. Ellison rolling away in his black car (A Mercedes I think) smoking a cigarette and goes flying out of the parking lot - I now know why he didn't want to take the time I deserved as a paying patient putting my hard earned money into his fraudulent pocket.
The story is not done, however - the piece of skin he grabbed was off of a spot that was dried up. I called him 4 times (4 weeks later) before I got a return response that the skin test came up negative for everything. So they determined it was just dry skin and to continue using the steroid gel.
Fast-forward 10 months - I'm back at the Dermatologist after almost a year of hell - my skin has gotten worse and worse and I'm scared something is seriously wrong. I've had to use this cover up stuff just to go to work - not to mention the mental stress of not wanting to leave my house because my face and neck is literally covered in red marks that people look at and think they will catch - my personal life is pretty much non-existent and my self-esteem so low it's bene paralyzing.
My new doctor, Mike Karls actually takes the time to talk to me - takes a simple skin scrape and looks at it under a microscope. He comes back 5 minutes later to tell me I have a pretty bad skin infection that will need oral medication and a cream to fix - but that it should be gone in two weeks. For almost a year, this skin infection has been getting worse and worse - and the gel that "Dr. Ellison" prescribed actually was making worse and spreading my skin infection.
All of this could have been avoided if this man had just done his damn job. I hope this review deters as many people as possible from this man's practice and that for those of you who do see this man - take a witness with you and have a lawyer on hand.
Dr. Ellison is a joke to medicine and it makes me so damn mad that he makes the money that he does, and should not be allowed to practice.
Here's a piece of advice, Dr. Ellison - if you hate your job and you don't care to DO a good job (since people's health and lives are in your hands), then it's time to throw in the towel. Do something else with your life, but don't go making money off of half-assed practice and "visual" diagnoses. Get your hands dirty, and empathically listen to your patients - you are not a God in medicine, but rather a jaded old man that has forgotten what it is you're supposed to be doing... read more
