He has one of the best bedside manners of any doctor I've ever encountered. He is genuinely caring, listens carefully, and never makes you feel like he's simply trying to get through the appointment and move on to the next patient. When you're talking to him, you have his attention. He takes your concerns seriously, answers questions thoughtfully, and explains things in a way that makes you feel comfortable and informed. There is something very reassuring about a doctor who seems to actually care about the person sitting in front of him. That quality is surprisingly rare, and Dr. Chansky has it in spades. I feel very fortunate to have found him and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for a dermatologist who is not only highly knowledgeable, but also genuinely kind, attentive, and compassionate. Five stars, without question. read more

My experience with P. Chansky was of two extremes: His medical practice is good; his billing procedures are horrible. He is--at least for now--a Blue Cross/Blue Shield preferred-provider--to which I belong. In January, 2026, he administered a drug that without the insurance-contract would cost $400. The insurance paid him the contractually permitted amount. The payment was RETURNED to Blue Cross, and I was billed the full $400. I contacted the office; it is virtually impossible to speak to anyone. I repeatedly e-mailed them the "EOB" [explanation of benefits], which documents that I owe $0. They did not correct their records. Blue Cross also tried to contact them on the phone. Finally, Blue Cross issued Chansky's office a "demand letter" in August--telling them that they had 30 days to stop billing me. This is called "balance billing," and it is illegal both under federal and California law. In September, the invoice was finally corrected, but I only found this out by signing-on to my account. They never acknowledged the illegality of what they had done, and they never notified me of the correction. read more

After years of struggling with stubborn hormonal acne and bouncing between dermatologists, Dr. Chansky changed my life. He's one of the rare dermatologists who truly excels in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. He listened, understood, and prescribed spironolactone--finally clearing my skin when nothing else worked. The result? A serious glow-up and renewed confidence. If you get the chance to see him, pounce. He's the real deal. read more

Peter Chansky, MD - Skin Care Near Me - San Francisco, California

Saw Dr. Chansky consistently for 2 years about a keloid scar and got great care every time. The practice tends to be very efficient -- I was almost always called in before my appointment time and seen quickly. read more

I had a skin problem that several other dermatologists were unable to do anything about - they only prescribed lotion that made it less bad. I have been dealing with it for more than five years. Dr Chansky identified the problem and found a new treatment that had not yet been used for my condition. Working with the drug company, he gave me a trial dose and within a few days my problem was gone. By diagnosing the problem correctly and using a newly developed treatment, Dr Chansky solved my problem. I am grateful and impressed. read more

My experience at Dr. Chansky's office was very disappointing. A few weeks after my appointment, I received a $95 charge with no explanation, even though I had paid all fees on the day of my visit. Despite calling the billing department and Dr. Chansky's office multiple times to get clarification, the issue was never resolved even though they told me they'd get back to me after looking into it. Instead of resolving the issue, they sent it to a debt collector. Can you believe that? Mistakes can happen, but sending a disputed charge to collections without making an effort to resolve it is unacceptable. read more

Dr. Chansky has been amazing in helping me get my acne under control. He takes a very thoughtful and personalized approach backed by science, making sure I not only see results but also feel confident in my skin again. He takes the time to explain the importance of the medications he prescribes, which I really appreciate. I feel understanding the "why" behind each medication makes a huge difference in staying consistent and truly understanding the role each one plays in helping me feel my best. As someone who works in dermatology calling on different offices I would highly recommend him. read more

I'm genuinely thrilled with Dr Chansky! He is the first dermatologist with whom I'm comfortable. He is personable, engaging, compassionate; he listens. He is thorough, he explains everything, gives all options, yet not pushy. He is professional, yet warm - and to his staff as well- which impresses me immensely. He has me spoiled- I don't want to see anyone else but him. Dr. Chansky, THANK YOU!!! read more

Patient BEWARE. This office has the worst customer service. CIGNA was billed for TWO OFFICE VISITS when I only went there once. They also over billed me for a simple skin tag removal. Try speaking to someone is almost impossible. LONG WAIT TIMES and when you finally get someone it is a person you can't understand in a foreign country and / or AI bot. Their billing statement has a wrong email address that doesn't work. Call the office and got a new one but NO ONE REPLIES to you. AWFUL. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHES AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

Dr. Chansky has been a true 'life changer' for me. It's the first time I've worked with such a compassionate doctor in my life. He is direct with what you can expect with results, what options you have, and doesn't make you feel any pressure to take any action. He is incredibly patient, and his entire staff is supportive and kind. I cannot recommend him more highly, and would advise anyone I know looking for a dermatologist to see him. read more

Dr Chansky is a not only an overall kind, caring, wonderful individual to go along the hormonal acne journey with but EXTREMELY effective and knowledgeable. I fall under the bucket of people that has dealt with hormonal acne / rosacea in both my teenage and adult years. With my former dermatologist, I had tried all of the prescription lotions and pills under the sun with no luck and visits never had any real solution. After all these years and a period of time where I gave up all together out of frustration and hopelessness, I decided to give it one last shot to try a new dermatologist when my insecurities with my skin worsened. Dr. Chansky provided me a new regimen that correctly addressed my skin needs and my skin improved nearly immediately. I even got to a place where I could progress to acne lazers due to improvements in my skin from his regimen. Most importantly, after 10+ years of trying to tackle my acne, his help is the reason I finally can experience being confident in my own skin (and even get compliments!) in this lifetime and gave me the hope I never had. I never imagined this could ever be an outcome for me and I will always be thankful to his care and expertise to get me here. I can't recommend him enough!! His staff are also friendly and supportive. read more

Dr. Chansky is actually a 10 rating, and let me say why I experience this doctor this way. First of all, he SEES what others do not, then he cares, and I mean really cares, and proceeds to fix the issue. I am very visual and care about how my skin looks. Recently, he realized that my chin had a 30 year old scar on it, that NO ONE else knew or cared about to correct. The issue was scar tissue from a facial 3 decades ago. Once he removed the old scar tissue under the skin, my chin no long caved in. That's no small discovery. And then yesterday, I had a small but noticeable scar under my chin from a mistake a surgeon made. Anyone I asked about it made it into a big deal. It was not a big deal, unless you consider caring about the patient a big deal. Dr. Chansky was able to surgically remove this unattractive raised skin that I saw everyday I looked at my face. This morning, for the first time in a number of years, it's gone. Dr. Chansky, I feel so very fortunate that you chose dermatology as your medical field to practice. read more

Excellent visit with Dr. Chansky! I've been having some really bad dry skin around my mustache and scalp and decided to visit a Dermatologist. I got an appointment at California Skin Institute and was very satisfied with the care I received. The office was clean, organized, and all of the staff I interacted with- from the front desk to the assistant in the room with me- were very courteous and respectful. Dr. Chansky didn't make me feel rushed, took his time to explain everything and allowed a moment address some questions I had. As a minority, I'm very conscious and aware how I'm being treated- particularly in healthcare and I can say with confidence this doctor was awesome. Will certainly recommend him and this office to everyone I know. You got anything going on with skin, go check them out! Thank you Dr. Chansky and Team. read more

March 2024, I came down with an extreme (and I do mean extreme) case of hives, also known as urticaria. Itchy welts covered my body head-to-toe. I went to an ER here in San Francisco and they simply gave me half a Zyrtec and sent me on my way. The next day, Dr. Chansky was able to squeeze me to his schedule and was taken back by the severity of my case. The ER personnel never even asked me to lift my t-shirt. Dr. Chansky gave me a regiment of antihystamines to take ... and my hives disappeared within a few days. Dr. Chansky's care, attention, and knowledge of all things skin-related is extraordinary. read more

As I'm quickly approaching 50, having a full body skin check sounds dreadful. Dr. Chansky was so warm and thorough while being quick. He gave me some suggestions for my rosacea but didn't push a laundry list of expensive products. I'm spending what I'd spend for a facial on new stuff that will last months. I'm excited to see how my skin looks in a couple months using his regimen. He was also ON TIME!!! I've never heard of such a thing anymore. 5 stars. read more

I was originally referred to Dr. Chansky for hyperpigmentation from electric shaving daily and in what seems like 'no time at all' he was able to reverse my hyperpigmentation issue, and also address my years of sun damage leaving me with healthy, radiant skin. As a board-certified dermatologist, I love how Dr. Chansky combines his training and expertise to treat a wide range of skin issues. I simply adore Dr. Chansky and his team not only because they are the best on the planet, but because of their thorough approach to skincare. The entire staff is always very kind and Dr. Chansky is meticulously thorough when explaining my prescribed skincare routine and answering all of my questions. If you are just beginning your skincare journey, or just looking to perfect your skin care routine and take your skin to the next level with someone who cares about your skin as much as you do - I suggest you schedule now. Dr. Chansky is by far the most thorough, compassionate, and intelligent dermatologist I have ever had pleasure to go to. From the way he constantly shows how much he cares throughout my visits, to follow-ups, and willingness to 'sort out' my skin issues. I recently visited his office for restylane filler injections for my tear trough area, I was able to see myself during the procedure, and could instantly view the improvements. Following the procedure, when I arrived home I began looking through old images of myself on IG and thought to myself 'I honestly wish I had found Dr. Chansky sooner. read more

would leave a zero if I could. front desk and medical staff is beyond rude. they scheduled my appointment for the wrong time and the wrong reason (skin check instead of follow up on Rx that they gave me and had no records of ...) and then blamed me for it, saying "they couldn't predict when I could be taken in." i waited there for an hour and then just left because that is how rude they were -- sat next to another guy they also kept waiting for 40mins to fill out paperwork. this is a practice that was going to charge me $1000 for a 5 min procedure. complete racket and honestly I work in health care and haven't encountered someone so rude. read more

I am honestly surprised to see such great reviews here. Maybe he only cares deeply about his cosmetic patients? I went in this week for my annual exam and he was very dismissive of my questions and hurried me out the door as soon as possible.
