The visit with Dr. Walton was pleasant and very short. We just get straight to the point with no…read morefrills. Instructions were given, was prescribed a few things, shot was given and then asked for a follow up. Was out the consultation room in less than 10 minutes. What I didn't have a good experience with is the company's practice and lack of professionalism when it comes to billing and insurance / credit card retention. I gave them my insurance information 5x and they still did not keep my in-network insurance on file until I asked them to charge my $40 copay the afternoon of my visit after I realized that there's definitely a copay for that visit. I called 4x before someone answered. During the call to pay my copay, it turns out the front desk person I met did not put my information in despite saying she did. What she did keep was my credit card information that they refuse to delete despite me never signing any form to justify it. This practice will try to make you sign a form that forces you to keep a payment card on file, have it charged without notification when there is a bill and forgo your right to dispute the charge if there's a discrepancy in billing. I shared the image of the form below. The front desk personnel will also hound you if you don't put your personal address and ssn on the forms. I gave them my address but the fd still refused to acknowledged that I wrote it down. I generally have payment cards stored for copayments at other practices. However, I have never had practice (or worked at a practice) that has these terms and conditions. It feels almost predatory and extremely insensitive. I understand when bills are due they are due. However, not saving my insurance information when I gave it multiple times, refusing to acknowledge I had filled the health forms online and even written down my address. Is just terrible practice as someone who also works in the medical field. I even emailed the team and offered them to submit the insurance claim myself just to ensure that it does get billed to them first. I even asked for a patient ledger once it's done cause I need to know my claim gets billed correctly. Furthermore, they do store you whole card information on their computer system and not an secure off-site institution as they claim, cause the FD on the phone confirming my copay was able to repeat the card number from front to back. Trust me this is not standard practice at medical offices or even businesses. At most the only card info a business would have is the last 4 digits of the card and it's expiration. Not the whole card's information I did not sign anything (their green agreement policy) that authorizes them to charge my card without my consent or say so cause I am not tardy on bills. (If I was why would I called 3 hours later to pay my copay immediately) But treating every new or existing patient like they are out for free service gives the impression that it's money first before your health by a long-shot. Most practices I've been to are not like this The whole fiasco about not wanting to save my insurance so they bill me directly instead cemented my experience at this practice. The doctor may be nice but the billing system and practice is definitely flawed. It's almost like they operate more like a beauty spa/ clinic than an actual medical facility for people with skin conditions. The administrative staff seem unwilling to actually do their role besides pushing you to fill out the green agreement form (pictured below), give card information and your address to ensure they can bill you instead and then send you to collections. Everything but sending the claim to insurance it seems. Definitely won't be back and will follow up to ensure they do send my claims, and would not recommend this practice to any patient needing care without the administrative stress.

I've gone to my fair share of dermatologists and Med Spas and this was the best experience by far. The botox looks great, very natural and exactly what I asked for. The Union Square office is beautifully decorated and I found the front desk folks to be attentive and easy to work with. Can't wait for my next appointment!

This is so uncommon with dermatologists these days and my check-ups with her are so easy and straightforward; I leave feeling good about myself and accepting of my age and appearance rather than feeling like I need to do more to keep up with society's standards. Aging should be celebrated; I am celebrating it. In addition to her respect for my values, we have been doing full-body scans for melanoma over the past 3 years. She is thorough and proactive, and is helping me to manage the effects of sun damage from my youth, when we tanned for fun and vanity. When a biopsy on my arm came back positive for melanoma, she called to speak to me directly, and then followed up with a very detailed email, and then referred me to the most excellent surgeon for the excision procedure. She was invested not only in taking care of the problem, but also in my personal experience--I was treated with sensitivity and compassion. I couldn't imagine seeing another dermatologist. (Her office is also very organized and the staff are kind and efficient.)

This is a follow-up review about the laser damage caused by Andrea Austin and nurse Mary Krempa in…read moreMarch 2024.  After I posted my review in March 2025, I saw a few other prominent dermatologists, including Dr. Timothy Berger at UCSF and Dr. Matt Lewis at Stanford, last year. They are both recommended by another patient who wrote a critical Yelp review of Andrea Austin. I reached out to her through Yelp because she wrote that her doctor told her that half of his patients with neurogenic rosacea are a result of laser damage, and I suspected that it was my case as well.  Dr. Berger at UCSF confirmed that the dense tissue in my cheeks is facial edema caused by Vbeam (Mary Krempa did so many passes with a high setting meant for blood vessels next to my nose on my delicate cheeks; also, I don't think my skin could tolerate 6 Vbeam in such a short period of time). As a result, I now have neurogenic rosacea, which I never had before seeing Andrea Austin. I hardly had any rosacea symptoms even before I saw Andrea Austin (no flushing, no pain, or nothing really, just slight pinkness on my cheeks, never had to worry about the heat or coldness or whatever).   As I wrote in my previous review, I saw Andrea Austin three times after the botched Vbeam. She STILL recommended to continue Vbeam during the two appts AFTER the botched treatment, and recommended me a hydro facial after learning that I would not do any more laser at the 3rd last appt.  I saw seven other reputable dermatologists between June 2024 and December 2025 because I was determined to find out what had happened to my face. All of them acknowledged the dense tissue (diagnosed as facial edema by Dr. Berger, Dr. MacGregor --my current derm, and Dr. Lewis), and almost all of them are very sympathetic to me about what had happened to my cheeks, and they all warned me to be extremely careful with my skin.  I also reached out to Andrea Austin through the online portal after seeing a PR reply to my previous Yelp review last year, and she literally messaged me that what I have now is NOT a result of the laser under her care, and she suggested a different skin condition, which was flatly denied by Dr. Berger.  I decided to share my horrendous experience so that other people who have very sensitive skin will think twice before they choose to go BACD. Having pain and discomfort in my cheeks and not knowing what happened to my face destroyed my mental health. Even after 2 years, I can still pinch and move the dense tissue under my cheeks, which I never had before Andrea Austin. I ended up taking 2 months+ off from work, as I no longer could function due to the extreme anxiety and insomnia caused by the harm Andrea Austin and Mary Krempa inflicted on me. I never experienced insomnia or mental illnesses in my whole life until THIS. Dr. Berger told me that the nerve damage could last 7-10 years, and he told me that even he couldn't tell exactly when my skin would be back to normal. He told me the best is not to disturb the damaged nerves on my cheeks. So, please be very careful if you have laser treatment at BACD. Dr. Berger trained most of the current derms at UCSF, and he was even the interim chair of the dermatology dept at UCSF (there are 70+ derms there). He was extremely kind and knowledgeable, and took so much time to explain and answer all my questions. The experience was a stark contrast to Andrea Austin, who refused to take any responsibility for what they had done to my face. Both my current derm, Dr. MacGregor, and Dr. Lewis at Stanford highly think of Dr. Berger, and Dr. Lewis even suggested sending Dr. Berger's notes to Andrea.  I blindly trusted Andrea Austin based on my positive previous experience with Dr. Welsh, and I am paying a hefty price for the biggest mistake of my life. Andrea Austin is so sure of herself (if you see her, you will know what I mean), but what she did to me is BEYOND unethical and comprehensible. Had I continued to listen to her, she would have further destroyed and damaged my skin.  If you decide to go to Andrea Austin, you MUST keep in mind that you will never get any help from this practice when things go wrong, no matter what PR employees say.

While I am now a plane ride away I recently did a skincare 'checkup' as a virtual visit to go through my products, morning and night routine, and make sure that what I am using is what is actually best for me. My routine has gotten overly complicated and I had so many expensive, clean beauty products that I was using sort of ad hoc. After having a baby I also have some melasma that I just figured I would treat with a laser later. Dr Campbell went through everything with me, both assessing the products that I already have and discussing the ingredients/actives that would be most beneficial for my skin (to address current concerns or just optimize for smart aging and to try to erase the melasma). She told me which items I should keep in my routine, along with why, what I should add or subtract, and why along with a few helpful asides on current research to support her recommendations. She gave me options for her own line or drugstore brand options, and in real time also looked up some of my clean beauty favorites to see if they included the key ingredients that would make them effective for an updated routine. She did also make some suggestions for in-office treatments when I asked that would be helpful in optimizing my skin. Her office sent a write-up of her suggestions, which I then printed and taped to my bathroom mirror. It's also given me a whole new framework for how to assess new products that I'm tempted to get and know whether or not they might work for my skin. It was SO helpful and even in just a month my skin had more 'bounce' and looks and feels more even. I should have done this virtual visit sooner! So grateful for Dr.Campbell.
