After seeing evidence of a rat, and meeting the large guy in my basement, I tried to resolve the issue myself. I found a crack in a roof drain pipe near the main sewer outlet to the street. Sealed the likely entrance, built trap boxes ( YouTube... ) and used various baits. Rats are extremely smart and fast. He'd get the food but not caught. After a a few weeks I gave in and searched for an exterinator. The reviews about Joe prompted me to get in touch. The reviews describe him perfectly ! He came the next day. We spent almost 2 hours going around the house inspecting for evidence of entry points, nests, activity as well as getting to know each other. He is truly a nice guy who knows his craft ! He suggested a few new baits and traps and we decided to stay in touch before moving to poison. He refused payment for his time and advice. More important - I'm sharing this with you all, because I feel as an Emergency Room Physician, its important to understand how serious the problem I had was and how critical it is to get appropriate, competent and caring services/assistance to mitigate and eliminate the "situation". I've been living in my CoOp for over 3 years; never had an issue. Sometime in early May - CoOp advises me that they must enter my unit to "change a pipe" - Apparently, this is an emergency - as a problem was found in an adjoining unit. About 7-10 days after this emergency repair was made - marks the start of all my troubles. I work overnights in the ER; my schedule is erratic - Early one more morning (in the middle of the night) - I saw the unthinkable - a nasty disgusting mouse - zipped before my eyes. Honestly, I was embarrassed, and I was truly in denial. I don't have time for this! I didn't believe what I was seeing! Why/How could this happen to me in my brand-new completely remodeled Co-Op? I quickly learned from my Cleaning Lady (who conveniently neglected to tell me about all the mouse droppings she found @ her last visit - under the couch) about what was going on. Joe is awesome! He came out to my home a few times and sprayed for springtails. They would not die and we kept finding them in the house. To be fair Joe would have sprayed in the house but we did not want chemicals inside the house. Springtails are active at night so Joe offered to come at night and spray again for free to try and kill them when they are active. It finally did the trick! Ive had a mouse problem in this apartment since I've moved in. I live in row houses so if my neighbors got them they pass through to my place despite my home being very clean. While it's gross and embarrassing to admit, sometimes you live in a place where a roach problem escalates quickly and you need professional help. I've lived in my current apartment for a couple years and have always had roaches. I figured it was just the building, or bad luck, or me not cleaning well enough. I had carpenter bees in my roof and carpenter ants in my home and in one of my trees this summer. He sprayed the inside and outside of my home, especially around the tree where the ants were coming from.
