I debated taking it to Mercedes but the dealer is just going to milk your insurance and they do a terrible job as they don't care about you as a customer you are just another number. (I'm in the business and trust me no dealer has a good body shop, they rush and half ass many things all a numbers game for them). I used to work up the block from M-Dolla and would see many nice M and AMG cars being worked on so I figured I'd give him a try. Keep in mind my truck is a 100k+ truck with a special factory matte black finish. From start to finish it was a great process working with Marlon (the owner of M-Dolla). He is extremely kind, genuine and informative. He worked with me on many different issues and aspects of the car. While the front end was being fixed I decided to do the Brabus body kit and took some of Marlons suggestions as well. Marlon also worked with my insurance company directly and the adjustor. Due to covid delays and extreme rare availability of parts for my truck it took a long time for the process but Marlon kept me in the loop sending me pictures, videos and texts with updates. He was always available whenever I had a question or concern 24/7 and would always answer my nagging calls and texts. The end result was amazing. The paint matched perfectly and the truck looks great. There is a few other things I am going to have Marlon do as well and I know they will come out perfect. Trust me these guys did a better job than Mercedes themselves. The matte factory finish is extremely difficult for even the most skilled shops to match, Mercedes themselves have many issues with it but these guys nailed it. He then got a quote for a transmission since there was mild slipping and quoted me $3900 from another transmission shop that he knows. He refused to discuss it with Me. I was unsure whether or not it really needed a transmission. So I went up to Green Motors on a very emphatic recommendation from a trusted friend. The most difficult diagnosis and assessment that a mechanic can render for you is when your car is at the end of its life. Same with doctors in a hospital room talking to the family and letting them know what their options are. Well, the car drives well enough for local driving as of this moment, due to Andy's detailed and shockingly candid assessment of the car, looks like I'm going to have to save up for a new car for Christmas. There are worse things in life. But as he gave me the rundown of the issues with the suspension the brakes and with the transmission, but turned both our heads around to face. The inevitable was that the amount and number of leaks from all aspects of the engine and other parts of the undercarriage really shared that even if I got a rebuilt transmission in the car, I would soon be dealing with something else. A blown motor mount. Shocks going out costing me $1000. The front brakes at $380. The car had a long life and it survived much, perhaps in the same way I have. But I don't want my life to end when the car ends in a multi car wreck because I was too cheap and too impractical to save up for a new car. Christmas is only three months away or so. I can do it. But what struck me about Andy is that he said they could install the rebuilt transmission for $3900 but he had no guarantee that anything else that currently might be a problem won't go wrong soon after that. Even once so far is to encourage me to consider that the car is driving well enough now, even with the minor slips that I could just forgo investing that much money into the car. As we discussed all the things that could be done with the car likely totaling well over $5000 or $6000, we both agreed to probably the best and most prudent approach would be to get the brakes done at $380. This is the first time I've ever gone to this place. They did not know me from Adam. And yet Andy took calls and text on his cell phone and was always engaging, informative, and pleasant. But more than that, any mechanic that tells you look if you invest this much money into this repair, you're probably throwing your money away is a mechanic you can trust. The garage itself appears modest from the outside and when the bay door opens, you look inside and it was a vast expanse of arguably 10 to 15 different stations and with quite a few valuable, expensive cars. People with that kind of rolling investment don't go to mechanics who give them the runaround or rip them off. The few complaints I read here on yelp about Green Motors certainly did not reflect my experience with them. And as I said to Andy, once I do end up getting my next car, even though I live down in Summit, I will come up to them for service purposes and anything else. That's about a 45 minute drive north. And that's not impractical - that shows exactly how impressed I was with the level of service, honesty, candor, intelligence, and frankly empathetic kindness to a man faced with a difficult decision, any unprincipled mechanic would've urged me to get all sorts of work done. They didn't. The governed as much by professionalism as conscience. Just the way any good attorney should be.
