He gave me a reasonable quote for the whole house including the dryer duct. 5 stars for communication throughout the whole process, from quick Yelp responses to letting me know he was on his way this morning, and for showing me photos and videos of before and after of the ducts, and just for an all around professional in-person experience. During the initial tour I asked if he also cleaned the fans in the laundry and bathrooms and he said that's not typically a part of the service, but he was happy to take a look and give them some compressed air. The before and after pics of the laundry room fan were NO JOKE. He said we might have saved that motor and I believe it. It always feels strange having a stranger move throughout the whole house, but Cesar was incredibly professional, immediately wore booties upon entering the house without me even asking, and was so gracious when we asked him to step outside a couple of times so we could move our unfriendly dog to a different floor as he moved through the space. I called, and Bryan, the owner and operator, quoted me $279 for 16 vents. His company doesn't have much of a presence on the internet, so I could not find impartial reviews. I called one other duct cleaner who quoted me $300 for 16 vents. I took the chance and had Fresh N Clean Duct Cleaning come out, and Bryan was able to schedule me in within a week's time. Bryan showed up as scheduled and was very kind. He explained to me what he was going to do and other aspects of the process, and he went straight to work. Our ducts and vents were particularly dirty, and the vents were a pain to remove and install due to the shoddy carpet installation, so Bryan ended up taking about 30 minutes longer than he initially thought. However, he went above and beyond to get the vents reinstalled properly and never asked for additional money or tried to sell me any additional products. He left the work areas clean of debris, explained to me what he found and how often he recommends a cleaning, and went on his way. I was concerned that the dust from Bryan's work would dirty our recently cleaned furnace, but Bryan told me his process won't affect the furnace. After he left, I removed the furnace panel and found only some minor dust that I was able to blow off by mouth. Unbeknown to Bryan, I had removed a vent from the main trunk in the basement and snapped a photo prior to his cleaning, and then I removed that same vent and snapped a photo after he left. He did mention that it's quite an older unit and really should be replaced at some point soon, but that was it. No sales pressure at all, which I really appreciated. Yelp guided me to several options to consider for service, and upon reading many reviews, I decided to contact Safe Dryers. I contacted them rather late on a Friday afternoon, but they promptly texted me back, and got me on their calendar. Saul and his colleague arrived at the scheduled time, and got to work. They vacuumed out a pile of lint, and exclaimed at the amount in such a short dryer vent :). They measured the airflow, and explained to me what the ideal airflow is, what mine was at the start, and what it is now. They answered every question that I had about the state of the system and how I should maintain it going forward. They were efficient and cordial. What else can I expect? I'd like to point out that Safe Dryers wasn't the first company I called. The company, which was referred by my appliance repair folks, wanted to come to "inspect" my system for a low fee, and then "assess" what needed to be done and provide an estimate on site. When I asked how much it would cost to clean the vent, which I knew needed to be done, this other company would not answer that question. They insisted on a $69 visit to provide that assessment and cost. Safe Dryers had a simple answer--$169 for a ground level vent, $259 for something 10' off the ground or more. I'm sure if Saul and his team found something amiss while they were here, they would have told me about it, but all I needed was that vent cleaning, and that is what I got. A bargain at $169. Saul had come out to clean the vent back in July so I called him to ask what might have happened and if he'd noticed anything at the time. He came out the next day to evaluate and remedy the situation. He was very thorough, replaced the tubing and cleaned the lent mess, all free of charge! He apologized for the oversight (it was difficult to see that the metal attaching to the tubing had been warped and was therefore not fitting correctly). He not only took accountability but was very timely and respectful in his approach. This kind of high-quality customer service is very rare these days and it was much appreciated! He said it wasn't something he could do. It seem kind of weird because I went up there by myself two years ago and was able to bend a 2" x 2" area of the mesh down to allow airflow with just my hand. I am disabled now, so I can't go out there. But anyway, then I asked him if he could just clean the vent because I definitely think it's got a build up of lint because the dryer is running hot and it is a gas dryer.
