We didn't have reservations anywhere but were planning on going to Pala to play a little and listen to music. We were just going to grab some food somewhere...anywhere... but because we are early birds with our food, we were able to snag a spot at Anila's. Where is Anila's? It's in the back of Bar Meets Grill tucked ALL THE WAY in the back. The hostess walked us through the kitchen into a little spot fairly hidden with tables that were right in a smaller back kitchen. Small and intimate. When we were seated, we were greeted by Chef Anila herself. She introduced herself and talked to us about the concept and the menu. You could already tell you were in for a great experience with how passionate she was talking about her food. They have a regular menu, but she also has another menu that she changes weekly so that the regulars can always experience something new when they come to visit. She asks what you would like and immediately gets started preparing your dinner right there in the kitchen in front of you. We started with a basket of bread that she baked herself with a tomato, pine nut spread that was heavenly. My husband wasn't very hungry to begin with (I think he just wanted to play slots haha) but he said he could eat dozens of the bread with the spread alone. We had an appetizer of the bruschetta with the freshest ricotta that was so creamy that it melted in your mouth. My main was the halibut. Let me preface it with this... halibut is my favorite fish and I am super picky about how I like it. Like SUPER picky. Sometimes it's disappointing because it is dry or just flavorless. This was NOT the case with Anila's. I can tell you without a doubt in my mind that this was by far the absolute BEST halibut I've had in my life. The cook was perfection and the sauce, my husband loved the spread for the bread, but couldn't stop dipping his bread in this sauce. That's how good it was. The risotto was a nice texture and even the asparagus was perfectly cooked. Everything was so thoughtfully seasoned and beautiful. I wish we had room for dessert because I'm sure that was probably amazing as well. That gives us a reason to return if not only to try the desserts as well, but to see what the new offerings are that are always changing! We will definitely be back!

Obviously not fresh, most likely from a container and past it's time. Picture included. Wontons very stale and wax box/package flavor. Assuming they came from a box from warehouse that sold the black rotten greens. Dressing, was poured on thick, which made for a heavy / syrupy salad. Cabbage was dry and at the end of its cycle, you know when it gets those black dots on the white part of red cabbage. Chicken strips bland and maybe 1 1/2 ounces (for a $20 plus salad from a bag of rotten greens) . I kept looking for the chicken. 2. Scrambled eggs, sourdough, black beans and a side of Ham Steak. Eggs not fresh, maybe a carton - liquid eggs, black beans were actually a combo of red/brown/black - not the black bean flavor we were expecting or what menu stated . But, out of the entire breakfast they were the only decent thing. Ham Steak- NOT a Ham Steak just a slice of ham from supermarket -thin-and very processed -cheap quality. Sourdough bread was also the lowest quality sourdough you would find at a discount grocer. To summarize, the ingredients, produce and proteins are of the lowest quality. Bland, spoiled, packaged/processed food. Price for each dish was $20+ AND if you use a credit card you get a 3% surcharge. My husbands final words while dinning, "this place reminds me of one of those restaurants in those rehab shows- where the chef spits the food out because it's so bad" Like I said, it's a shame because the restaurant gives off a good vibe. When we arrived, a large box truck was blocking the upper parking area--likely a vendor--and although we were motioned to wait "a couple of minutes," it turned into closer to five. Because the space is narrow and sloped, my friend had no choice but to back up carefully, fortunately with no car behind us. There is additional parking on the opposite side, and street parking. It's clearly a popular spot with locals.

Luis Rey's doesn't open until 4:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. The NFL kicks off at 10:00 AM on Sundays. Luis Rey's doesn't kick off until 1:00 PM. Sunday Night Football? You might miss the end of the game as Luis Rey's closes at 9:00 PM. They close at 9:00 on Thursdays also, so the end of the Thursday Night Football game is in jeopardy also. Monday Night Football? Forget it. Luis Rey's is closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We never actually went to Luis Rey's. We stayed one night at Pala on a Saturday; we were attending a wedding nearby. We had to get to the venue about the time Luis Rey's opened, and we didn't return until after they closed. Looked like a decent bar. If only they were open when sports are being televised.
