This place knows what they are doing... After a day of shopping and hoofing it around Brooklyn, I was ready for a little foot pampering but didn't want to wait around or have it take too long. Not only was the service quick, incredibly efficient and courteous, the spa itself is clean, modern and impeccably set up. The quick service did NOT come at the expense of a great pedi - my feet were smooth, soft and my toes perfectly polished. I could not have been more pleased with the results. The only downside (and reason for the star deduction) was the attempt to upsell at every turn. They were not pushy but it did get a little annoying. Cute!! Reminds me of my fave mani pedi spots in SF. Element proved to be ideal to kick off the bachelorette afternoon. It was intimate enough for us to almost take over the entire place, but big enough that it wasn't cramped (other clients would prob disagree, but we loved it!). The girls were super sweet, brought us cups for our champagne, really took their time with our mani pedis. Living in Brighton Beach, there's not a lot of legit places to get my nails done in my area. They are all super sketchy joints on the third floor, charging $5 for a mani. It was totally worth the train ride to Park Slope to get my nails done; I had a really enjoyable mani/pedi at Element Beauty today. The decor is really nice and relaxing, without being so fancy you feel uncomfortable there. I was also totally impressed that they have hot tea/citrus water when you first walk in. (Oh, the little things!) I was planing on getting a regular treatment, but when I sat down they told me it was Spa Week, and I could get either the Green Tea or Milk & Honey mani/pedi for $50 (the pedicure treatment alone is $40) It was a little more then I wanted to spend, but it had been a while since I had treated myself I figured to go for it. This woman gave me the best massage I think I've ever gotten with a pedicure. It wasn't as jarring as some other peoples, but she was able to get in there and work out all the little aches I had. She did a good job cutting my nails, cutting my cuticles, and did a perfect job painting my nails. And the little massage you get when you sit down to get your nails dried...it hurt so good! I almost got a 10 minute chair massage but really didn't want to spend any more money (and it was almost two hours later so I didn't really want to spend anymore time there) They have all the usually OPI/Essie colors. My only complaint is that the chairs where you get your manicure are kind of uncomfortable. They're more like stools, and I found it kind of awkward to sit on. I would definitely go back to get a regular mani/pedi from there, I'm not sure the deluxe ones are really worth the money. read more

Why I liked this place: -Atmosphere/Decor (modern and clean) -Super cute and accommodating receptionist (got me in without an appointment within 30 minutes and got me a glass of water while I was waiting) -Great selection of colors -It's only $30 (plus tax) for a mani/pedi Mon-Thurs Why I'm never going back: -My mani/pedicurist (her name begins with M and ends with A) hardly paid attention to me or my "pampering" (the massages were hardly that, more like lightly rubbing lotion on me) -She hardly filed my nails (she kept on missing my actual nail and would often bump my knuckles instead. wtf?) -She hardly pushed back my cuticles even after I told her she could do it harder (I felt that she was just going through the motions) -It's only day one and my nails look like shit (she put on too much polish and there are bubbles/indentations/nicks) -My services took about a quarter of the time of the other customers' -Her tool box looked funkdafied (I've seen better looking garden tools) -She was just not into the idea of doing a good job Next time I go for a mani/pedi, I'm going one block south and trying the new place (Q something). However IF I ever did make it back to this establishment, I would go to Soo or the young Asian girl with the longer reddish/orange-ish highlights (she didn't have a name tag). Ah Man - This is my nail place. I go out of my way to make sure i can get my pedi here - totally clean - the girls really listen to my needs and I love the massage chairs. I always get a pedi with a callus treatment and for $36 I think its a bargain. The magazines are new or newish and not greasy and pawed over. Ugggg so awful. I don't get my nails done often so was looking forward to a treat. The mani / pedi combo was super rushed. The girl kept looking everywhere but at what she was doing. One of my toe nails hardly has any color. And then on to my fingers... the worst shape I have ever seen. I don't even think it's an actual shape. Worst mani-pedi ever. In the interest of full disclosure I did use a coupon for my "hot cream mani pedi" , but the tech wouldn't know that. My friend paid full price and had the same experience. For all the use of the term "spa" I have had better work at basic nail salons. The "hot creme" meant putting some hand lotion in the microwave then smoothing it on after it had cooled. It came with exfoliation which meant they smoothed on some cream then immediately wiped it off with out allowing the scrubbing beads to do their work. I paid extra for a gel to soften my rough heels, which would have worked if they had taken the time to scrape off the dead skin - I did that at home when clipping my toenails which were left oddly long after I had requested short. I paid extra for a 10 minute massage which never really happened. After the pedi, in bare feet, we were led to another area for the mani. It was freezing cold in there. I had requested no polish or polish remover used on my hands. I asked to have my nails buffed instead, which they said they had to charge extra for. Without being asked my nails were cut so short that the skin came past the nail. She actually cracked one of my nails below the skin line while clipping and did nothing to repair it. For a finale we were led to another chilly area to sit under unheated blowers, no quick dry infrared nail hardener offered or avaiable, and like previous reviewers I watched other clients being massaged but was not offered one. No need to go back here when there are "spas" on every block. read more

I found this place when both my parents were visiting exactly between Mother's and Father's Days so needed something to treat both of them at one time. I got my mom a suped-up manicure (i think the cream one) that included an arm and shoulder massage. I got my dad a massage that he was very pleased with (he's picky, and likes strong pressure). While they enjoyed themselves, I opted for the basic manicure to pass the time. It was only $12 but actually really nice! I'm not a huge manicure fan in general, because I don't like lots of goopey lotion and lazy hand rubbing. This manicure included neither, but left my nails, cuticles, and hands glowing and clean. Since that first visit, I've been back for brow and lip waxing, a pre-wedding manicure, and (today) a massage with my Yelp deal! All have been pleasant. My massage therapist today (Carol) was extremely attentive to my specific shoulder tightness, checked in regularly to adjust her pressure, and did this nice hot towel rub after working each section of my body to relax the muscles and wipe excess oil off. 24hrs later, I still feel less tension than I walked in with. The services and facility are nice but not luxurious, efficient without being rushed, and polite while keeping a respectful distance. Overall, I think most of the services are priced at a very reasonable deal for what you get! read more

Not sure what the hell is going on here. A ton of people love Element, then a ton of people hate them. Sounds like Element's service is hit or miss, and my service with them the 3 times I've been there for pedicures have been misses. Unfortunately Element is the closest nail salon to my apartment. I passed by it a few times and admired the modern decor; it represented a sterile environment with high standards. The pedicures and manicures are polished on with absolute care and look great. Why only 2 stars? Because the nail techs were extremely rough on my skin, inducing literal blood ALL THREE times I went there, and on the 3rd time finally giving my big toe AN INFECTION. I have never had a pedicure-induced infection in my 10 long years of pedicure-ing. Granted, my toe didn't fall off or anything; the worst that happened was the top quarter-half of my toe filled with puss, subsided after 3 days, then the dead puss-skin peeled off. I contemplated going back to complain to get a refund (and an apology?), but because I am crazy overworked, never made it back to show off my infection. I just will never go back... fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Fool me thrice? I'm a f'ing idiot. Vicky just gave me the best foot and leg rubdown I've had a a salon, and my manicure is on 5 days and going strong. Yay! I usually frequent another neighborhood spot for my mani-pedi, but walking home with cold exposed toes didn't sit well with me. I'd tried Element in the past for manis but felt the techs did a poor job for more money. Some of the staff has left and there are new faces, much to my delight! The special on mani-pedi is nice though still higher than its competitors. I find the in-wall entertainment, the tea, my great included rubdowns and the general feel of the place worth it. And proximity, especially in the winter, is clutch. Definitely worth the splurge -- though it may become routine for me soon! read more

I went here after a long day of holiday shopping in Manhattan...ahhhh! It was just what I needed to recuperate. The Green tea pedicure took almost and hour and VERY relaxing. I drank green tea and practically fell asleep because I was sooo comfortable. Next I got a manicure which was quick but the bar set-up was pretty cool. The decor was modern and clean, with flat screens playing videos I never have time to watch and large massage chairs for your pedicure. Everyone is very friendly - even with it being so full, I never felt rushed or neglected. I'd say no need to splurge on the extras they try to sell you and the price is pretty decent for the area - plus there are mani/pedi specials during the week. I'd go here again! read more

dropped by on the whim to do a polish change. it was $8 but the work was meticulous and the technician took her time. i had a pretty good experience. they offer you hot tea or citrus water as an option. there are also ipads at the drying station so u wont be bored out of your mind. when u tip, they offer u a envelope of the tech so it is discreet. this salon isnt cheap so prepare to pay a little bit more than ur usual. the korean women there are nice. all in all, i will be back when i'm in the area. read more

I want to love this place. The people are super friendly, the place is nice, the prices are reasonable and it's really clean inside which is important when choosing a nail salon. Each time I go here I get a great manicure and have a nice experience (with the exception that occasionally you will need to wait a bit even when you've made an appointment - it gets crowded). The problem is that every time I get my nails done here (hands and toes) - it literally chips after 3 days (maximum). I walk out with my nails looking great but it never lasts long enough to make it worth it. So...I've stopped going here. I used to go here each week and then I realized it's not me, it's them. Maybe they don't use good top/bottom coat? I'm not sure exactly what it is but I've resorted to going back to the local places close to my office even though they don't do a great job either because at least it will last me an entire week. There is a new place a block or 2 south that is always packed - I am going to test that place out next. read more

I haven't been here in awhile, but I used to go all the time. Now that I've resettled back in Brooklyn and it's summer, I'm going to be going back for my usual mani/pedi/waxing. I never get the kind of pedicure I want, but I have that issue with every salon I go to. No one spends enough time removing dead skin and scrubbing my feet, and I feel like I could do a better job at home with softening up my winter-hardened feet. I love the products they use here, however, and the chairs are great. The massage you get with the spa manicures and pedicures is great. The waxing I've had done has been great, with only one instance of a poor leg wax, which constituted several missed spots. I'm not super impressed with their sanitation in this area, however. I'd like to see some improvement there. I had a massage one time when my boyfriend bought me a spa package and it changed my life. I wish I had wrote the review right after I had it, so I could tell you all the masseuse's name. She is an older Asian woman, looks very petite and a little frail, and you'll worry about how she is going to get the kinks out of your body, but HOLD ON- she is going to stretch you, push you, grind you, pull you and overall, make you love life. This place is good, but if you're getting multiple services done, it gets pricey and can sometimes just be "ho-hum." Overall, I like it better than the other nail places on 5th Avenue. read more

There is no question about it: waxing sucks. And finding a good waxer is tougher than it should be. I recently moved to Park Slope and needed to find a new place for a bikini wax. After looking on Yelp, I decided to try out Element. I had a fantastic experience - the place was clean (subject to a small but important caveat noted below), there was a chart on the wall showing pictures of all of the waxing options (kinda ridiculous, but also eliminated any nasty surprises), the process was relatively quick and painless, and the results were fantastic (no stray hairs left behind). Element is my new go-to place for waxing. The one caveat, and it is a big one, is that they definitely double dip (i.e., the same applicator was used throughout the waxing process). Gross. Because I was just getting a basic bikini wax, it wasn't an issue for me - but I probably would not go to Element for a brazilian for this reason. read more

Really excellent Mani/Pedi. The lovely Korean ladies REALLY know how to give good service. The lounge really feels like a chic bar + is zen in their selection of music, decor + organization of the nail colors. A basic mani pedi cost me about $40, much more than I'd typically spend in Astoria/LIC, but the manicure has lasted the better part of a week without a single chip! No place has EVER lasted this long. It may be the Zoya nail enamel or the fact that I was patient enough to let my nails dry for nearly an hour, but I'll go back when I need another service because it was WELL worth the money. read more

I tried this place the first time based on a recommendation from a friend who swore by it. The manicure was ok but the pedicure was messy. The price was decent and the staff was nice so I didn't make a fuss. Fast forward 2 years later and I live literally across the street from the place. I had a Living Social coupon and my feet were in dire need of help from winter abuse so I gave it another try. This time, the manicure was weak and again the pedicure was messy. My toenails were uneven and the polish bled all around the skin. Also, the treatment I asked for, hot cream, was no more than warm lotion. A few days later, the skin on my feet felt rougher than before I had gone in. The only things saving this place from a 2 star rating would be the price (at what cost, though) and the pleasant staff. Oh, and it really is right across the street from my apartment. Their staff could use better training. read more

This is a review of the DEEP TISSUE massage by CAROL at the 5th Ave location. I got a gift certificate and went -- honestly -- not expecting much...I mean, in my mind it is "just" a nail salon with a massage room...but... IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST MASSAGES I HAVE EVER HAD and after having hundreds of massages all over NYC (Bliss, Red Door, Aveda, Greenhouse Holistic, etc.) I consider myself a sort of expert. I had a shoulder injury a few years ago and the week I went to Carol it has been KILLING me due to an increase in my weight training recently. The joint was killing me. Before we started she spent almost 10 minutes with me manipulating my shoulder to figure out where the pain was and my flexibility and asking questions about what was more uncomfortable: position A or B and then B or C... I was shocked. She really knew her stuff. The massage was not relaxing...but it was EFFECTIVE. I walked out feeling RELIEF. read more

I've been here a couple times for their Monday-Thursday specials on manis/pedis. Sounds like a great deal, $30 for a mani/pedi, or $12 for just a mani. But I guess this is a lesson in you get what you pay for. The first time, I went for the mani/pedi special, and my pedi barely lasted the week, and my mani chipped within a few days. Usually, I can get my toenails to go for at least 2 weeks! Then my friend and I went in for a little bargain pampering, but I can give myself a better manicure. I chose a deep red polish, but now I see that the color was not evenly applied, so it's really light at the base of my nails, and solid and dark towards the tips. Also, the woman who did my mani was too aggressive when cleaning under my nails, thus pulling the skin from the nail, so I was left with a couple of irritated fingers. Ouch. I'm giving 1 extra star because while our nails dried, we went with the 10 minute massage for $13, and it was pretty darned good. I'd go back for that, but I think I'm done with the nail services. read more

I went in on a Monday afternoon around 1:30ish. There were only a couple other ladies getting spa mani/pedis. I was able to just walk in without an appointment- AWESOME! Sophia, the lady who did my mani and pedi was actually quite thorough and did a pretty good job. I happen to think my hands turned out better than my feet, but the overall experience was excellent compared to my nightmare nail encounter at Long Nails on Nostrand Ave and Eastern Parkway (you can check out that review as well). The establishment is also REALLLLLLY well maintained- everything is clean and tidy and the nail polishes are organized so nicely too- OPI, Essie all in rainbow order.. so cute! I paid 30 bucks for a spa mani and pedi- they have that deal on Monday-Wednesdays, otherwise I think it's 36 bucks. It's been 3 days and my manicure is still going strong (even with all the typing and texting that I do:)) I will definitely be going back. read more

It's strange enough that I'm in Brooklyn and even more strange that I'm getting a manicure while in Brooklyn, however thank you again Yelp for helping me find a nice, clean nail salon while I had some time to kill! It was a complete shot in the dark coming here, with the exception that it was near Barclay's Center and I was in Brooklyn to go to a basketball game. I had over an hour to kill and actually needed a manicure! The salon was really neat, actually set up like a bar when you walk in. Very modern looking. The pedicure chairs looked really comfortable too. I get gel manicures so I was taken to the back area where they do gel mani's. The salon is small and can only accommodate 2 gel at a time, but lucky for me I didn't have to wait. The manicure took about an hour, same as it normally does and cost just a bit more than my normal place does in Manhattan. I thought it would be a bit less since it was in BK but this place is nicer than my regular salon. I like the way my nails came out, let's hope they last as long as usual! read more

The ambiance of the nail salon is very inviting and tranquil. The service leaves a lot to be desired. I was not greeted with a warm welcoming smile nor was I offered water or tea once from any of the staff. A woman that was sitting next to me getting a pedicure was offered tea and water - I had to ask for both. During my service (both mani and pedi) the nail technician was not very friendly and at one point stopped to gather dirty towels and proceeded to take them downstairs. My aunt was subjected to similar circumstances. A cold greeting, never offered tea or water, while also feeling rushed. We are not too sure if we will ever return. read more

I've been going to Element for pedicures and waxing for almost three years now. The best part of the place is that it does NOT have the chemical smell of most nail salons - particularly the few that are on 5th ave nearby. The women who work here are all excellent and care about quality. Since the manager is a native English speaker, I can always get across any special requests as needed. They have a 'buff' option if you'd prefer no polish - it comes out really beautiful. Unlike other salons, all pedicure chairs are 'massage chairs.' They use high quality products across the board - this place feels way more like a spa than just a nail salon - and yet, the prices are literally only a few bucks more than the tacky places a few blocks away. Another great thing about Element is options. You can add on a 10 minute calf or back massage for $10/15, or just get something simple. Waxing is also great - they women are super patient and there's even a tv on the ceiling to distract you. They are also not at all judgmental here - very sweet folks. Came here today for nails but ended up getting my brows and lip waxed. I was treated very kindly and am very pleased with the wax - didn't have to do any touch up of my own. I did break out because of my sensitive skin (this happens everywhere), but today the breakout was minimal and has already gone away. Clean, professional, and a relaxing atmosphere is all that I ask for when I am being serviced. Element satisfies my expectations each time!. The space is small and usually requires an appointment to be seen. The staff is always pleasant and meticulous with their work. My manicures and pedicures are done with care and last me sometimes for up to three weeks! There is a large array of Essie and OPI nail polishes available to also purchase. Super quick on the train and even faster in my cab ride back:) I had a mani/pedi and massage with (I don't want to share her name because then she won't be available when I want to see her she's amazing okay I am feeling generous - her name is Carol). I have very high expectations and her skills are some of the best I've ever had. I used to get massages every week so I am no novice to massages rather an expert!
