I've been here multiple times and never had a problem but this time I was less than pleased. Showed up 5 minutes early to an apt and waited 25 minutes to be seen. Lady cut my hair far too short and apologized mid cut for it saying, "I'm so sorry". It was embarrassing for her but more for me since I now look like a 5th grader on picture day. My husband is a very happy man for the haircuts he receives from Erika at Element 909. I am a very happy woman because although my hubby's hair is not what we might call luxe (in fact one might say it is a stretch to say he even has hair these days) his sweet (to me at least) head always looks so much more stylish thanks to Erika's good haircuts. The only thiing I can think of that would be better is if Erika could send him out the door with George Clooney's hair. One can dream. EASY APPOINTMENTS: Erika works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. My hubby is happy that with just a call ahead he is able to get in within a day or two and often same day. Then again, he's retired and his time is flexible to be able to pop in in mid morning weekday hours, which may be the time men still working are unable to come in. (Walk ins are welcome too.) GOOD VALUE: Thrifty man that my hubby is he also appreciates a cut here is only twenty bucks (shampoo with Aveda products included); less than a bottle of "schoonight" wine and much longer lasting for enjoyment. VIBE: Located in downtown Bend, this is a salon designed to be appeal to a hipster set. But old guys (ummm...mature clients) are welcome too, as evidence of my hubby going in. Beverages are offered with the hair cut. ACCESSI BILITY: Level in and throughout. PARKING: A drawback is this downtown location for on street parking which ranges from a challenge to impossible depending on time of day. Garage a couple of blocks away. NEIGHBORS: Zydeco Restaurant is close enough to be considered next door and Deschutes Brewery is two blocks up. read more

My boyfriend had his haircut here yesterday and whoever did it (he doesn't remember her name) completely mauled his neck with the straight razor. He said it was hurting when she was doing it but thought it'd be rude to make her stop. The back of his neck literally looks like road rash. The cut isn't even what he wanted. I guess you get what you pay for but even a relatively cheap haircut (compared to womens) shouldn't leave you with these abrasions. Yikes. read more

This is a very nice place for a guy to get trim. It's $20 for most regular cuts, which includes a complimentary beer, shampoo, etc. They also use Aveda products, which as a guy I can honestly say are damn good. Aside from one old guy, the staff are young hip gals, with good sense of fashion and hair styling. They do walk-ins, but making an appointments is ideal. Not sure what a previous reviewer mentioned about them not taking appts. Maybe he's confused Element 909 with some other place? Kindra is good, so is Kelly. The atmosphere and such is nice, big open ceilings, a couple tv's, free beer, clean floors, etc. read more

Along with one of the worst haircuts I've had I see now that I'm actually bleeding from the poor and far too extreme use of the straight razor. I have two hard parts that are far too wide, and are totally different sizes! The top of my hair is too long and uneven as well. I don't really know what to do besides wait until it grows out. I thought I gave pretty clear and easy direction of what I wanted but the haircut I received does not indicate that. I have been here before and had good experiences with very little complaints. With the haircut I just received I have a feeling I'm going to be wearing a lot more hats. Will not return or recommend. read more

I went there based on great reviews. Unfortunately, I needed to walk in, and did not get Becca or Rosa. I got someone who must've been new hire and now I'm wondering what kind of sample haircut he did to land the job. Aside from rushing through the haircut, he didn't listen to what I wanted (too busy talking about himself?). If I go back, I will request Becca or Rosa. Update three haircuts later: I didn't go back. Instead I found an excellent haircutter at Supercuts in Bend River Mall. A salon is only as good as its talent, and Supercuts wins this one. read more

Went in today and got a cut from Jody. He did a killer job of getting it clean and tight. Straight razor to clean up the edges, hot lather, and a hot neck towel. Went in for another hair cut from Sarah. Another great haircut! As you change your cut she updates her notes to make sure she knows what you want before you sit down. Unless you want a change. Everyone at Element 909 is welcoming and you don't wait long before someone has acknowledged you and is getting you setup. It looks like it is from 1980 and could use a good deep cleaning and a professional interior designer to come in and update. In for work and needed a mid-trip haircut on a Sunday. I called ahead and they said that they didn't take appointments and to come on down. That's when the comedy routine began. A 30 minute wait turned into an hour. Was told that they didn't take appointments than had someone jump ahead of me in line because he was scheduled for a 3:30 cut. What?? Really nice men's salon, very comfortable seating while you wait. For $20 my husband got a shampoo, hair cut & a beer. Tabitha cut his frizzy, long, curly hair into a nice still long layered style. For some reason, other salons have always cut him what looks to be like bangs, or they don't layer high enough so it's flat on the top with a long layer and super curly on the bottom. My husband really liked this place. I gave it four stars, and I would have given it 5 if they ever answered their phones. I hope they read this feedback, as I think it's the only thing lacking. We got a walk in appointment, but it's been a couple of times over the last year I called in to try and make an appointment, always met with the voice mail and never a call back to schedule the appointment. Fix that! You're too nice of a salon to be doing that. read more

Sara (or perhaps Sarah) gave me a GREAT cut! I'm pretty picky about my hair and not everyone can cut stuff as curly as mine. I called in and asked if anyone was available that day and they told me Sara at 2:30. I asked if she was good with curly hair, 100% expecting to hear the canned answer "oh yeah, she's great. Blah, blah, blah", but I didn't! The lady (girl?) who took my call actually put me on hold, and went to ask Sara about her curly-hair skills! Apparently she said she was good...and wouldn't you know it she was! Friendly, fun to chat with, quick without rushing, and gave me exactly the cut I wanted. I like the actual hair cuts, I struggle with the customer service at the counter there. I don't want to say rude, but definitely not customer service friendly. I don't want to sound critical. When you call to see if you can stop by for a cut, they are less than friendly. Call me crazy, but being friendly on the phone is kinda important. I wanted to try a new spot for my haircut, compared to going to places like sports clips ( which is still a great spot) but this was more convenient during work hours. Awesome and efficient service, high quality hair cut; exactly what i asked for. The stylist knew what I wanted and made it happen. Pricing is fair too, pretty comparable to most places. Your experience here will depend on your hair, your standards, and probably who you get. I was new to town looking for well-trained men's hair talent to read my hair and give me a good quality lasting cut. I think a simple barometer is: if you like your hair short, and you expect the stylist to use scissors, not an electric razor, to cut the bottom half of your head, don't go here. That's not a criticism, but it's a barometer. I think in general you probably get what you pay for here - a little more than a standard barber, but probably worth it if you're not worried about the complexity of your hair pattern, texturing, that kind of thing. Clearly it hits the sweet spot for a lot of people, but I thought it might help some other folks to share my two cents. I did enjoy the beer. read more

I was in Bend for the day from Hood River and decided I just really needed a hair cut. The Aveda salon across the street did not have any walk-in appointments but they were nice enough to recommend Element which they assured me also did women's hair. I cannot remember the stylist name but she had short blond hair. She did such a great job on my thick wavy/curly hair. She layered but didn't over layer and she didn't cut much length. My hair was frizzy, over thick, over processed and unmanageable when I came in. Now it's falling in soft sexy waves with just a little styling product. I'm thrilled! Thank you! Visiting for the weekend and desperately needed a haircut. I rolled the dice, look at Yelp and ended up here. The two girls at the reception area were super friendly. They got me right in and I sat in the chair with D-Ron. He just moved back into town a coup of weeks ago. Timing is everything and glad he was here today.
