Denied AppleCare Service for Following Apple's Security Policy…read more Today, I went to the Overland Park PC Microcenter after making an Apple care appointment for an AppleCare+ covered device. Find my was disabled and the device was backed up. Micro Center refused to repair my iPhone under AppleCare because I would not disclose my personal passcode. They were preparing to write this on a post it note attached to the device. Apple's official policy clearly states: "Never give your Apple Account password, device passcode, or account security details to anyone else. Neither Apple nor Apple Authorized Service Providers will ask for this information." It's unacceptable that an Apple Authorized Service Provider would deny AppleCare service because a customer follows Apple's own privacy and security guidance. Customers should not have to compromise their personal security to receive AppleCare service. If you provide your passcode, that provides the technician access to banking, passwords, and other private information. For example, a person could potentially Zelle themselves money from your app. I declined to provide my personal iPhone passcode and the tech declined to service the device. Note that this information is not required by Authorized Service Providers to service the device. I later went to an Apple Store and they confirmed that this information was not needed.

When I picked up phone I tested the screen and one quadrant wasn't working properly. When the macbook, which is nearly 9 years old started lagging and needed new ram, I bought it and install it myself. Now I wanted to up date the PC. While the MacBook was easy, the PC immediately crashed. It took 10 minutes to get to the operating system and then it couldn't find Windows 10. Had I screwed up my computer? I immediately thought of Geek Squad at Best buy. There was a store down the street and they were reputable right? A minimum of $85 + parts. So I found these guys on Yelp, free estimate yaay! I took it to their shop and the repair guy quietly listened to my story and then told me he would not repair my PC. I asked why. He said: "You obviously know how to install RAM. You bought some bad RAM, remove it and return it. Once you remove it, it should go back to it's old self." I went home and did it and lo and behold it started working fine again, new ram on order from Amazon. Direct Computer outlet could have charged me, but they were honest and upfront. This is service you don't get anymore, as everyone has to hit quota numbers now. If you have a PC and want an honest assessment, I suggest these guys.

The outside seems normal enough, on par with our memories of a begotten age and heck the employees seem very nice as well. The parking lot also is relatively smooth, devoid of potholes!!! That said be warned I'm still a fan of this place, regardless of some of the stupid business practices enacted by a short sited corporate regime. Walk on in and you get greeted relatively quickly but also a blast of cold or hot air hits you, depending on the season, to make shopping that much easier! I'll admit I'm still somewhat taken back that every time I walk in, some nice employee says hi! Very nice. As with most Best Buys now adays, directly in front of the shopper, you know where the DVDs, Blu rays, 4ks used to be to encourage impulse shopping, lies the multitude of cell phones. Yes, I mentioned the physical media b/c it's a sore spot with me. Please note the inventory of DYI items like wire, connectivity butts, odd length of HDMI cable and things of that nature have been scaled down. I strongly advise checking online if you don't like just browsing like me. Also, a lot of options in terms of computer mice, keyboards and things of that nature aren't as plentiful anymore. I mean, it's better than many other competitors but not what I remember of the golden age of Best Buy in the 2000s. As stated, physical media in terms of movies and music is gone but games are also impacted yet they do carry some titles, especially new or hot items. As far as new consoles, I've never had much luck getting a "hard to get" system as opposed to other places. In those regards, plan ahead. Now they do have a great selection of TVs and surprisingly if you like higher end equipment they carry that too! When I first moved to Kansas in 2000, this was my "home" Best Buy. They've continued to have competitive pricing, a friendly staff and a pretty good stock of most items. I won't sugar coat this because it affects all stores, is they've scaled back on a lot of items like I mentioned. If you're a window shopper, I invite you to come by. However if you need an item and expect it to be in stock, I suggest checking the website first. I've been to a lot of Best Buys and this one continues to be a great store!

Usually their prices are set to match their competitors, however there was an item that Costco and Sam's Club were offering for less over Christmas. I looked up to see if they would price match those stores, and the website indicated that they would. When I was checking out, the cashier looked at the pricing at both the other stores, and verified it was the same item. He needed a manager to come change the price, and I had to wait at least five minutes for one to come over. The manager told me that what the website doesn't tell you is that in order for them to price match Costco or Sam's, you have to have a membership at Best Buy. I didn't even know they offered one, or why I would even need one. He told me that if I paid $50 for a membership that he would do the price match. I told him that if I did that, the item would cost me more than just buying it at Costco. He just shrugged his shoulders uncaringly. I left, and drove straight to Costco to purchase the item. On the way, I called Best Buy customer service to see if that was indeed the policy. The verified that it was absolutely not the policy, and that I didn't need to buy a membership to match the price. I assume maybe the manager gets spiffed for selling memberships, and lied to me in order to sell one, but all they did was lose a good customer for life. I won't be returning.

Since I'd broken my phone glass a few weeks ago, I was surprised & frustrated to find out that Apple & Sprint each wanted hundreds of dollars to fix my phone. Crazy! Then I saw this place and they'll do it in under 30 minutes for $79. I kinda couldn't believe it, because Sprint had told me it would take them several days and they'd have to send it out and give me a loaner phone- no thank you! They have a huge scratch and dent section that changes weekly, new stuff comes in every Tuesday morning. On about 85% of the items the "damage" is minimal. So these appliances are like new, for a huge discount. They also have a large showroom of new appliances and run specials all the time. We priced shopped them against Home Depot, Best Buy, Lowes and Nebraska Furniture and they were the cheapest. Plus they will give you a cash discount. Definitely check them out if you're looking for kitchen appliances or washer/dryer. They also have some tvs, grills and smokers. For the scratch and dent, go in and get an idea what you want then they'll take your name and number and call you when they get something similar in. That's how we got our deal because the best items go fast. The sales men are friendly, very knowledgeable, and not pushy. They have a good size showroom with many options. They'll price match anything if you find a deal/special some where else. And if you're after a specific item they don't have then they can always order it in. Their delivery rates are reasonable; we paid $75 for our fridge then they gave us a $25 mail in rebate, so $50 in the end.
