Located in a safe part of Overland Park and across from Oak Park Mall, Best Buy is still hanging on as a staple of "brick and mortar" physical locations. The outside seems normal enough, on par with our memories of a begotten age and heck the employees seem very nice as well. The parking lot also is relatively smooth, devoid of potholes!!! That said be warned I'm still a fan of this place, regardless of some of the stupid business practices enacted by a short sited corporate regime. Walk on in and you get greeted relatively quickly but also a blast of cold or hot air hits you, depending on the season, to make shopping that much easier! I'll admit I'm still somewhat taken back that every time I walk in, some nice employee says hi! Very nice. As with most Best Buys now adays, directly in front of the shopper, you know where the DVDs, Blu rays, 4ks used to be to encourage impulse shopping, lies the multitude of cell phones. Yes, I mentioned the physical media b/c it's a sore spot with me. Please note the inventory of DYI items like wire, connectivity butts, odd length of HDMI cable and things of that nature have been scaled down. I strongly advise checking online if you don't like just browsing like me. Also, a lot of options in terms of computer mice, keyboards and things of that nature aren't as plentiful anymore. I mean, it's better than many other competitors but not what I remember of the golden age of Best Buy in the 2000s. As stated, physical media in terms of movies and music is gone but games are also impacted yet they do carry some titles, especially new or hot items. As far as new consoles, I've never had much luck getting a "hard to get" system as opposed to other places. In those regards, plan ahead. Now they do have a great selection of TVs and surprisingly if you like higher end equipment they carry that too! When I first moved to Kansas in 2000, this was my "home" Best Buy. They've continued to have competitive pricing, a friendly staff and a pretty good stock of most items. I won't sugar coat this because it affects all stores, is they've scaled back on a lot of items like I mentioned. If you're a window shopper, I invite you to come by. However if you need an item and expect it to be in stock, I suggest checking the website first. I've been to a lot of Best Buys and this one continues to be a great store! read more

I have always liked Best Buy, and will purchase items there whenever possible in order to keep them going. Usually their prices are set to match their competitors, however there was an item that Costco and Sam's Club were offering for less over Christmas. I looked up to see if they would price match those stores, and the website indicated that they would. When I was checking out, the cashier looked at the pricing at both the other stores, and verified it was the same item. He needed a manager to come change the price, and I had to wait at least five minutes for one to come over. The manager told me that what the website doesn't tell you is that in order for them to price match Costco or Sam's, you have to have a membership at Best Buy. I didn't even know they offered one, or why I would even need one. He told me that if I paid $50 for a membership that he would do the price match. I told him that if I did that, the item would cost me more than just buying it at Costco. He just shrugged his shoulders uncaringly. I left, and drove straight to Costco to purchase the item. On the way, I called Best Buy customer service to see if that was indeed the policy. The verified that it was absolutely not the policy, and that I didn't need to buy a membership to match the price. I assume maybe the manager gets spiffed for selling memberships, and lied to me in order to sell one, but all they did was lose a good customer for life. I won't be returning. read more

I do not understand how this business isn't listed at 4 stars or above. My buying experience at this location was one of the best, customer service wise, that I've had since COVID. Tyson and Carson were so helpful. I'm very geeky myself but I don't feel like there was a skeeviness in their sales tactics and service that I can usually feel from salespeople. They genuinely felt like they were trying to assist me and find me the best answers I needed before spending my money. I appreciate that more than anything and they were so kind. Target sells the items that I bought for less, but with the way that horrible company is moving with its DEI policies and just unethical corporate BS, it actually makes me so happy to see businesses like Best Buy uphold a genuine UNSPOKEN commitment to diversity. As soon as you walk in you can see it, and because of that you receive the highest quality of service. Everyone has something to offer. We received a pleasant greeting when we walked in, but it was all downhill from there. We spent 5-10 minutes looking at gas ranges and another 5-10 minutes looking at A/V receivers. No one ever asked if they could help us although we observed several employees lounging around chatting with each other. So, we went home and ordered a new $500 receiver from Amazon. When this store closes (and it will) people will blame it on Amazon but that's not fair. This store is in self-destruct mode. read more

I tried ordering an iPad for their same day delivery as advertised. But the iPad never shipped or arrived. So I talked to costumer service about a refund because I needed the iPad this week and it never arrived. They told me the refund would take 10-15 days which is ridiculous for a 800$ purchase. So I called corporate and they told me it doesn't take 10-15 days it should take 3-5. I couldn't get ahold of anyone in store for costumer service for this refund. So I took matters into my own hands and called corporate. It shouldn't be that hard to talk to someone abt a refund. So do better Best Buy. read more

My technician did not introduce himself and wasn't wearing a name tag, but he appeared to be a Latino male of average height and build with a full, graying beard. He was courteous, helpful, friendly, and professional. He completed the installation faster than expected, which I greatly appreciated. Not sure that I would make the same purchase again from Best Buy, but at least the installation was headache-free! read more

When a company makes it too difficult to throw money at them, there's a big OPPORTUNITY to solve a problem. They REFUSE to make it simple to make an appointment to get a dash cam installed. I've tried three times, and it's a pass around of 'what's your name and number' and then more passing. The girl I got to furthest down the transfers over the course of three tries just slammed me with questions as I was trying to talk. There wasn't any getting a word in with her. I didn't want to have to do a first come, first serve at a stereo place, but apparently Best Buy doesn't have common sense in setting up their transfer options. read more

Had Best Buy come out and install a home theater system approximately one year ago... One of speakers is never worked properly and despite repeated phone calls and attempts to get somebody to come... Best Buy insist that they will charge us $299 to start and will need to buy two new speakers... This all without ever coming out and looking or diagnosing the problem... Seems like The amount of money we spent... Your speakers should last for more than a year? Took us 27 minutes to finally talk to somebody and get somebody to help us on this last go around... This relates to Best Buy's Geek Squad and the company (Eagle Technologies) that they outsource their warranty work to. I wish I could give a ZERO star rating. Eagle Technologies is a third party outsource company that BEST BUY / Geek Squad uses. I have been trying since 12/3/20 to get some extended warranty work done on a Samsung TV that was only 13 months old when this debacle started. I was contacted via text message that they would have to order parts and was also instructed that they only communicate via text messages. What a joke ... because their grammar is so poor that it sometimes is a challenge to figure out the text message. The first request was to send them pictures of the model number and serial number of the tv. I sent the requested information just as they requested only to get the same message again requesting the same information again. On 12/16/20 I started receiving text messages asking if I had received the parts they had ordered so they could schedule the repair. I replied that I had not received the parts. On 12/18/20 I received a text message asking if I had received the parts. I replied that I had not received the parts. On 1/4/21 I received a text message saying that I had confirmed that I had received the parts. I DID NOT ever confirm receiving the parts and replied that I had not received the parts. On 1/5/21 I received a text stating that they would verify with UPS that I had received the parts at my address. (I still didn't have the parts) On 1/8/21 they requested pictures of the model and serial number of the TV again. They also said that they would create a new work order and start looking for the parts. On 1/21/21 they sent a text message asking if I had received the parts. I replied that I did not have the parts. Sometime in here, they called and said that they had located the parts and that they had been shipped to Texas and that it would take some time to get this resolved. On 1/25/21 they sent a text message asking if I had received the parts. Again, I replied that I had not received the parts. On 2/1/21 I let them know that I had in fact received the parts. They replied that they wanted to schedule a repair time. We scheduled a repair time for 2/3/21 at 1:00 pm. On 2/2/21 I received a poorly written text message reminding me of my appointment time and that they would arrive between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. I was also told that the tv couldn't be higher than waist high (poorly mispelled and written) so the tech could lift the tv. Later on 2/2/21 I received yet another text message reminding me of my appointment time on 2/3/21. On 2/3/21 I received another text reminding me of my appointment time between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. It's now 3:00 pm and they never showed up for the repair and NEVER call or sent a text stating why they didn't show up. I did finally receive a text stating that the technician couldn't come because he was doing a Covid test ..... perfect timing for a poor excuse that his managers should have known about so that they could cancel his appointments. I ended up driving to the BEST BUY store where I purchased the TV and extended warranty. They were unable to help as the manager for the Geek Squad was not working. The other store manager gave me a phone number to call and escalate this matter. BUYER BEWARE when buying an extended warranty from BEST BUY / Geek Squad as it's outsourced to White Eagle Technologies ...... a poorly managed company. read more

Best Buy how do you think y'all did on this? Am I happy? No, no not at all! I purchased a new 43 inch TV, mount, installation service along with a yearly Geek Squad plan. Your installers installed the TV in the wrong spot, left wires exposed, and just did a shoddy job. Your customer service is no help at all. They just want to push you off on installation services who are the ones who did a crappy job the first time. Then they want to inform me that if these same installers determine they did nothing wrong I'll be charged a second fee to do the job right. So when the second installer shows up guess what happens. He tries to double talk his way out of it and try to tell me the first installer got permission prior to installing it. How would he know he wasn't there? So guess what he tries to charge me another fee. I refuse and he leaves Call customer service to let them know. They try to pawn me off on another department again. I inform them to come out and fix their screw up or come get their merchandise for a full refund. I contact a KC "Deputy Marshall" I find on LinkedIn, who says he forwarded my letter I emailed him to the correct manager. This was Wednesday. It's now Friday and no word from them. So on Sunday I will charge back a $600 purchase because they lack the ability to take care of their customers. read more

Best Buy customer service is not what it used to be. We were not greeted when walking into the store, even though there was a man there that was supposed to do it. He kept looking at his iPad when we walked by, even as we slowed down because we were going to ask him a question. We walked to the back of the store where the product we wanted should have been. We even stopped another employee on our way back to see if that's where that item was still kept. He did not know And did not bother to go back there with us to help us find it. The store was eerily quiet, no one shopping and only saw four employees the whole time none of which came to help us, even though they weren't helping anyone else. We decided to leave and order the product from another store simply because no one there wanted to help us. As an update to my review. I had to go through my own insurance and pay my $500 deductible. The insurance has offered to cover my deductible but I have not received the check in the mall yet. It took a full week to get the car into the shop and another full week without my car until the repairs were finished. On top of everything my bluetooth kit they installed is not working properly. I'm returning the kit and I will no longer shop here. I also own a media company and have spent a lot of money here in the past for personal items and company equipment. Would give zero if I could. This is, by far, one of the worst places of business in the local area. If you have a need for anything electronic, need new appliances, or just any type of technical assistance, go anywhere else. The staff are rude and unfriendly. Useless is a hard term to throw around but if the shoe fits. My boyfriend was told to go here for phone issues. Once there they said that they couldn't do anything and sent his phone to another company out of state. Was told he would have his phone back in 2-4 days. It has been a week and countless trips to this store and no phone. They have no idea where his phone is, said it is in the delivery company's hands and brushed us all. We went back three separate times and each time they told us something different. When asked for the manager, she was rude and very unhelpful. I doubt she was the manager but what can you do. How do they expect people to not have access to anything without their smartphone? They didn't even provide tracking information for us to look at. On the third trip they finally gave us that. We said we would be back and the manger said, "if you're going to yell at me, stay out". We were not yelling. Frustrated? Absolutely. Here is the kicker! While waiting for the manager, another customer came in mad and shouting about how their customer service is horrible and he wanted his money back. What does that say about this company? I returned a wireless charger because it quit working the second day of use. The best buy employee did not ask why I was return it but I told him it was defective. A few days later I purchased the same charger hoping it was just that charger but when I picked it up today I noticed the box looked opened. I checked both tape sides and opened the box to find everything unpacked like I returned it previous one. Then I realized they resold me the defective charger I returned a few days ago. I then went back in the store and told the manager Brian that this box had been opened. He told me it was their policy to sell boxes that have been opened in store. I then told him that this was the same charger that I returned a few days ago. He pretty much called me liar and accused me of changing my stories so I returned the item again and the employee did not ask why again. I agree with Stephanie, it's definitely a "big box" store, but the thing is, it's so consistently laid out that anytime I go to one anywhere I can find what I need pretty quickly, or get someone to help me who is so knowledgeable I wonder how they aren't on commission. I am new to the Midwest from the West coast. One thing I've realized is that employees at local stores and people in general are so much more polite & helpful then California. I found the 1 exception. This Best Buy must be hiring from the bottom of the food chain. After spending thousands in TV's, surround sounds, etc. a few days earlier I went in for some questions about my new Samsung speaker bar & the rear speak towers. Miles in home audio was the only one there to help me. He claimed to be knowledgeable on the Samsung system I purchased. He had zero clue how it worked & couldn't even turn it on to help me because the display system was not working. I then asked him about the towers mounts that I bought and asked if there was a better option, since mine seen flimsy. He pointed to the aisle that they were in but did not offer to walk over with me. Now that I sensed his frustration, lack of confidence, and lack of desire to help me I didn't let him off the hook. I walked him to the towers and asked him questions on the three various versions. He kept trying to divert me to Best Buy's website to research them on my own. There was absolutely no other customers in sight so I asked him the scan the bars for the specs. His millennial attitude came through as he rolled his eyes and reluctantly scanned them. He did everything he could to get away from me and couldn't even fake his attitude, which was as bad as his appearance that he also took zero pride in. Best Buy should be ashamed for hiring people like this. The employees I dealt with at other location 10 miles away on Metcalf were fantastic. Nicholas & Chandler in Home audio were both not only very knowledgeable but super personable & helpful. I will write an individual 5 star review for that location next. This review is for the guys that work at the Oak Park auto bay. Anthony and team fixed many problems with my car stereo order. The system was flawed in that one of my items was back ordered but then by the time it came in ready for install Best Buy canceled the rest of the items on the order that were also needed for installation. Calling to try to get a hold of a manager was useless as all phone calls went to a call center. We had another hiccup at the appointment but I will say they made it right. Impressively impersonal staff. Went to pick up an item we reserved online. Waited for 40 minutes (with no communication from anyone) before demanding to speak with someone. Only then were we told they didn't have the item (website said item was in stock at this location). During our wait, we watched an employee reject a young man attempting an in-store pickup. He had the physical credit card used to make the purchase, and a last name & address matching the one on file. Don't make the same mistake we did. Ask to speak with Joe instead of wasting your time speaking with anyone else. Joe seems to be the only person at this location with basic critical thinking skills. read more

I feel like people always take out their negative reviews on Best Buy and other types of electronic stores. I have to be perfectly honest...both of my last two trips to this Best Buy have been more than adequate. I feel like Best Buy has the greatest selection of televisions and that is why I chose to shop here the previous two times that I needed to purchase a tv. My feeling was justified by the fact that this Best Buy does indeed have a huge selection of televisions both large, small, and medium ranging from all different costs. I think that the television section of Best But even beats out that of Costco, which has a pretty darn good choice of tv's! I have always had solid customer service here as well. The most recent time that I was here I came in wanting to purchase one of those curved tv's; and, in fact the "blue shirt" talked me out of it in favor of something more practical & not as expensive! The clerks were knowledgeable about the current technology and able to explain it to me in a understandable way. The prices here are high and that's why I am not giving them the whole five stars, but I feel like it is time that someone record a positive experience that they had at Best Buy instead of only negative ones. By the way, I purchased a 50 inch 7 series Samsung UHD tv and I think the absolute world of it; it is much better than the curved option that I was set on buying when first going in the store. read more

I would avoid this store like the plague. The customer service here is absolutely pathetic. I was made to wait over 90 minutes just to use a protection plan I had purchased. After I complained about how long u had been waiting, I was told it was my fault because I was wandering around the store instead of sitting in the customer service area. I had my 4 yr old son with me and when they told me it would be 45 minutes before someone could see me (there wasn't even a line) I wasn't about to try just sitting. I like this Best Buy and it is usually the one I go to. If the item you want is out of stock they are more than happy to run in back and check to see if they have any. If they don't they look at the inventory of all the other stores and let you know where the item is if there are any left. I have called up there and had them hold items, I have bought on line and shipped items to the store. They have matched ads, internet pricing and are generally a happy crowd. There is always someone to help you at this store and you don't have to go track them down. We bought a TV here a few years back and bought the warranty on it. Luckily we did get the warranty, about 2 years later the TV stopped working. They came and picked it up and took it to their shop. The item that stopped working couldn't be purchased anymore and they TV itself was no longer made so the upgraded us to a nicer TV at no extra charge all because of the warranty. Most items I don't get the warranty but TV's I do, and it was so worth it. read more
