I think it more of a men's store in respect to someone who likes to do it your self. Northern is large enough for a decent inventory, yet small enough to navigate without a GPS. They've got the basics, covering maintenance items for gasoline engines, trailer supplies, pneumatic tools and accessories, basic PEP, and seasonal items, such as tillers and wood stoves or inserts. I do HATE that the Bargain Bin extends the length of the rear of the center isles, forcing a walk-around, should one forget and try to access the rear of the store from certain areas. The tool section is a 'plus'. Same for trailer needs and accessories. (Balls, lifts, lights, tires, wheels). Need a sidewalk attachment for your pressure sprayer? You'll find it here. The staff are helpful, yet non-obtrusive; a plus if one happens to be mentally working out the logistics of a particular task. Parking is ample, be ye towing a trailer, or driving the family steed! If you need a non-specialty tool or part, and live (or work) nearby, give Northern Tool a try.

We recently moved, and I converted the front hall closet into a pantry since the kitchen didn't have one. The room I converted was attached to the kitchen, so it made more sense to be a pantry instead of a coat closet. I'm not sure why the complex didn't just convert it themselves. They tend not to want to spend any money on upgrades, but I did ask. The room sizes in apartments here in Tennessee are smaller than what I am accustomed to, so utilizing every inch of space in an efficient way is essential. I wanted to accomplish making an efficient space with shelves, hooks, and bins, and doing it by making the conversion temporary. I did not want to have to 'put it back' so to speak when I moved out. Mission accomplished. So I chose several of these cool black wire 3-shelf goodies which came in a box that was VERY lightweight to carry. I'm not very handy when it comes to assembling anything [especially IKEA furniture lol], but these shelving units were a cinch. There were even YouTube videos showing the complete assembly done by several YouTubers. There are many more larger sizes to choose from, but this one worked so well, and was manageable for me. I bought one more to use against the end of the kitchen cabinets and it looks very modern. I use this one to house decorative kitchen pieces and frequently-used items. With the already-existing shelf in the closet, these worked out perfectly for what I needed to store, as well as it freeing up space in the limited amount of cabinets in the kitchen. Actually, I got quite good at assembling these. So good that I ended up buying several more of these units for my huuuuuugeeeeee walk-in closet!

When the heard what I needed they walked be to the aisle and pointed them out, then bagged and labeled my small purchase for me. When the gentleman heard it was my first visit he invited me to look around and left me alone to browse without being bothered. I'm impressed with the selection of things here, better in some departments than even what you will find at a big box store. The prices are competitive with ACE and so much worth not going near Gunbarrel! Checking out they offered me a glass of iced tea and bag of popcorn. Very impressed with the staff, the store, and the service. Highly recommended and definitely is one of my new go-to-first places.

No one ever answered, but that was preferable to having to deal with that rude customer service person. Very gruff. Staff should be trained better. If you're a DIY type tackling a task that requires a specialised tool, you've three options:…read morepurchase a high quality tool made for multiple use cycles, find a rental tool, or purchase a functional lower-quality tool that will basically last as long as your task. Why purchase an expensive tool for a single use? And often rental tools simply don't work properly. I find that should I need a particular tool for a one-time or a seldom-use task, it makes sense to purchase a "second-tier" quality level item from a vendor such as Harbour Freight. It performs the task, and doesn't tie up excessive funds sitting on a shelf for ages, waiting for its next use. You'll find a wide range of tools of various quality levels here, even some of the familiar 'name brands'. This store is a good source for various accessories for material handling, trailering, lighting, and storage. This location, in the old Pruets Food Town building, is easily accessible from Hixson Pike thanks to a red light with a left turn signal. The parking lot is roomy enough for trailers and larger vehicles with plenty of room for turnabouts, and is level and well marked. The building entrance has no curb, making for easy roll-in or roll out! The staff is helpful, the isles clean and well-lighted. Unlike the big-box hardware stores, one can dart in, find what is needed and be back 'on task' as quick as Bob's Your Uncle! Okay, Harbour isn't a source for heirloom tools, but it should be on a DIY list to fill the niches for your at-home shop.
